We came for a midday pick me up. We got the canned mussels, beer and tomato sardines. I ordered bread here because I knew I would need it to dip it into the oils. It was the right choice. This place is a great little place for a pick me up and a snack. Definitely get the canned mussels and bread. Would recommend for a snack and a beer. It's also pretty cheap.

Great experience, cute patio seatings . Friendly service, the waiter was kind. We bought a lot of canned goods to take home. The white sangria was a little too sweet.

When visiting Portugal, you definitely have to go to a tinned-canned cafe. We were planning on going to Miss Can but it was out of the way. We were heading to pink street so we decided to go here. First off, you have to know that I LOVE canned sardines with bread. This is a great place for a snack or lunch. It's a small dingy place. Felt like a fish bait store which I love. Haha. We got sardines, mussels and mackerel. It was fun to see them pull the canned seafood from the wall. Wasn't sure what to expect. Then it came plated with garnish. Everything was really tasty. It went well with the vinho verde (green wine) we got. I would recommend this place. Don't go in thinking this place is fancy or anything.

Located right on Pink Street this place popped up on multiple lists and sources so thought we'd give it a try since Portugal is known for their packed fish. We were seated right away without a reservation because we eat at tourist times (7:45P) ha. The food that came out was just ok. I'd say the codfish liver was our favorite but everything else was not that impressive. Quality: 3/5 stars Service: 4/5 stars Value: 3/5 stars

Located on the famous Pink Street. The famous shop where Anthony Bourdain ate at on his tv show No Reservations. We were able be seated outside to people watch. It's a small shop and not much seating inside. The server brings a menu on a fishing pole or you can order from at the counter. They specialize in canned seafood products. The menu offers so many seafood to try such as sardines, octopus, mussels, mackerel, sea urchin and so much more. Our servers were so helpful in which ones to try. Come and try a few and wash it down with a nice cold beer or a pitcher of sangria! We were able to buy some tin cans to bring back to the states.

I wanted to love this place. Anthony Bourdain raved about it back in 2012. And ok, that was a decade ago at this point.l and so that was probably the wrong expectation from the start. We got seated pretty quickly in the short little tables/seats on the pink street. The restaurant was no more than half full and so we ordered a few dishes and a bottle of vinho Verde expecting it to be a quick stop and snack before Time Out Market. The wine came out after about 10 min, all good. Then came the very long wait. For slightly prepared canned fish. We waited over 1 hour for the first two dishes - Octopus with olive oil, vinegar, onions & cilantro and Mussels with tomato sauce. It was very fine. We waited another 15 min for a wrong order. We were not ready to wait another hour for our 3rd dish and decided to call it quits. I don't know what they were doing back there, maybe canning fish and foraging cilantro live, but it wasn't worth the wait or the hype.

Nice little place. Cool decorations. English friendly, if you're looking for that too. Affordable. Stop in and rest your legs and have some canned fish. Cash only.

Tbh a bit disappointed with this spot after coming especially to try it out, mostly because service was below par. We arrived on a weekday evening around 5:30pm, were seated and took us about 15 minutes to get a menu. The table that came after us were seated and presented menus and ordered before the staff came back to our table to take our orders. Initially there were several tables when we arrived and had mostly cleared out by the time we placed our orders. We ordered a few canned items and specifically the large portion of the aged tuna, which we were confused when they brought out the smaller portion. At least they charged for the correct one. Food itself was ok and we really enjoyed the aged tuna--it was almost like tasting tuna halfway between raw and jerky, it had a savory umami flavor. Also ordered a couple drinks including a tea which it seems like they forgot and didn't bring out until after we'd finished all the food and were about to pay. Not sure what was going on that day, maybe it was towards the end of a shift and the two guys that were handling the service decided to check out early? The couple ladies that took over seemed to have a better sense of what was happening and apologized for the mix up and didn't charge us for the tea. In any case, glad we came for the experience but not sure that I'd be back again.

Everything about this place is unexpected and charming. From all of the food essentially being upscale cat food (tinned fish and meats) to the bright pink street, to the menu attached to the fishing rod, which unfortunately almost lead to a waitstaff impalement (guilty as charged), the experience is not to be missed. My favorite selection was the octopus.

Simply wonderful seafood, all preserved in cans. Probably not appealing to many people at first, but oh my, there is some wonderful stuff here!! We enjoyed tuna (and the oil/juice alone, as a bread dip, was worth the foray), mussels, and anchovies. All the aforementioned had many different varieties (e.g., tomato sauce, peppers, etc.), and there were other seafood offerings, as well. Coupled w/ fresh baked bread and white wine on tap? Wonderful, wonderful flavors!! Cheers! RS

This is still one of my favorite gems in Lisbon. Conceptually perfect for any canned fish lover as they have a vast selection of canned seafood that is presented via plate. A carafe of white wine will run you a whopping 5 euro and the servers are always attentive and happy. I went back to this spot a few weeks ago because my first experience was so great. I reordered the aged tuna because it's such a unique item that I've only found at sol e Pesca. You're encouraged to squeeze a lemon on top and pour copious amounts of olive oil on top (something I didn't know last year). I also ordered the special cornbread, anchovy and pepper bites. They were so damn good! Great spot for a quick bite at lunch or pre dinner. Located right on pink street so there's plenty of people watching.

Sangria, sardines, chilled Algarvia soup, mackerel and sweet potato mash

You should stop into this place for the unique decor alone. It's located on the Rua Nova do Carvalho, once known as a seedy part of town, it apparently had a makeover in 2011 and they painted the street pink, turning the street into hip nightlife area. There are bars left and right this place and on the weekends nights everyone is hanging out on the streets. On the inside you'll find every kind of tinned sardine, mackerel, octopus, etc displayed behind the glass case and listed on their menu. Other reviews suggest it before dinner, but unless with a group, I don't know how you can eat so many sardines before dinner. I'd say it's probably a place you'd want to stop at for a light dinner or a late night snack after all it's open until 4am! And of course it's a given you gotta like sardines! We tried a few menu items besides the tins-- the chilled Algarvia soup with cockles, tomato, garlic, coriander and olive oil with bread crumbs was a refreshing dish on a warm night. The crumbs really provided a great texture; the mackerel with sweet potato mash was like comfort food, nothing too special but still good. We were impressed with the presentation of the sardines out of the can -- the additions of fresh herbs like chives or rosemary really gave them a nice touch, which made us eager to try it at home. It's a very down-to-earth and more like a bar-lounge meets snack shop dinning experience. As sardine lovers, we really enjoyed it.

Super cool and super small place with a specific climate (the street is very colorful and cheerful) something that you must see and try - fish from the can ! We asked for tuna in spices and it was the best canned tuna ever :) Beer (Bock) very good Great team behind the counter!

Table seating was by the front and along one wall with the rest at the bar that dominated the middle of the restaurant. Menu was almost the same with a great selection of seafood ranging from tacos, ceviche appetizers to pasta, fish and shellfish entrees with many Asian flavors. The Peruvian ceviche was very nice with thin slices of fish, radish and red onions. The corn nuts added a nice crunch. It also came with a small bowl of toasted crostini chips. The cuttlefish tacos were delicious.. Big chunks of cuttlefish topped with tomatoes and placed on a small tortilla with a white sauce. We actually ordered just one but comped a pair. Sea bass was the best with its crunchy pan fried skin side topped with nori and the moist fish went perfectly with the barley and miso sauce combination. Even the bok choy was cooked well. The squid ink pasta had a mild sauce but scallops were nicely seared. At the end the owner offered us a shot of ginja to try for our first time. It was sweet but at least lower in alcohol,16%. Another great meal and service even two years later. Would highly recommend for anyone wanting some seafood here in Lisbon.

We did not have any reservations and we're having difficulty being seated at restaurants but our party of 5 was very lucky that there happened to be a cancellation for a larger party. The service was excellent and I really enjoyed the vibe and ambiance. It was a very modern ambiance with some nods to the seafood theme of the restaurant. Our server was so fun and had great recommendations. For the small plates, we shared the tuna, scallop, burrata shrimp, mixed ceviche! We were told the mixed ceviche was the most popular. It was one of the most unique and favorite dishes and had sweet potato in it (such a great twist!). All the dishes were great but I also really enjoyed the combination of flavors and textures in the shrimp burrata and tuna dish. For big plates, we had the octopus and the golden rice. Both were very unique dishes. I loved how rich and creamy the risotto was in the golden rice and enjoyed the crunch of the fried chickpeas with the octopus dish. The wine selection was also great! We had three different bottles from varying Portugal regions. Definitely would return in a future visit!

When you find Estrela Da Bica, it is on a side street right off of the steep street with the trolley that is famous. There was a small open door with a sign asking us to wait outside to be seated (so as not to crowd the restaurant). Make sure to follow these instructions, as my family and I watched some other unaware tourists walk straight in, grab a menu, and promptly get asked to go wait outside. After a minute or two, we were seated by one of the staff (possibly the owner?). The staff was all women, and they seemed very proud of their restaurant. The decor was quirky and very homey, with various mismatched tables and chairs. We were informed that the food is all meant to be shareable plates, and we started off by just getting some sourdough bread with dips. There were multiple different kinds of bread and the dips kept them interesting, one being a fish spread. One of the appetizers caught my eye instantly, the roasted pork belly, banana mash, and pico de gallo. I usually like banana flavors mixed with savory (I've tried weird combinations like a peanut butter banana hamburger before) so I knew I had to try this. The outside of the pork belly was perfectly crunchy while the inside was tender. As I expected (but I would guess most people wouldn't), the banana mash complimented the rich savory flavors of the pork belly. For the mains, we ordered the pink marlin tataki with pineapple chutney, potato and rosemary sourdough pizzeta, roasted Hokkaido with butternut mash, dried nuts sand, and house kimchi, the confit codfish cheeks with poached egg and crispy chips, and the pork cheek ravioli with mustard sauce and buckwheat popcorn. They were all intriguing flavor combinations that I would never have thought of in my life!! What stood out to me was the confit codfish cheeks with poached egg and the crispy potato chips. We had tried other codfish dishes around Lisboa and had noticed that it was the most common fish there. But this combination was luscious, with the soft egg coating the fish and the chips adding a nice crunch to every bite. It was like a fish carbonara in a way with the poached egg providing a sauce. This was the standout dish to me, representing what Lisboa is all about while not being afraid to take risks. All of the other dishes were interesting too, and each left me with new ideas of combinations that I would have never thought of. After the dinner was so impressive, we were enticed by the dessert. We got the chocolate mousse and basque cheesecake with guava jam. These were Like I said, the staff seemed proud of their establishment and rightfully so. Estrella da Bica may be a small, simple, establishment, but they are not afraid to push the boundaries of gastronomy.
