I don't have anything bad to say about Nunes. The service, the ambiance, and the food were all great. The restaurant is so huge, I felt really comfortable sitting there. I made reservations for my family dinner, but it probably wasn't necessary for the weekday. The staff was very attentive and helpful; they answered many questions had many recommendations. They even brought out the seafood for us to look at before we made our decisions. To start, we had raw oysters, baby squid, and grilled shrimp. The oysters were fresh and delicious. The baby squid was crispy and I liked the sauce it came with. The grilled shrimp was also fresh and the meat was tender. The star of the show was the spider crab. The crab we picked was meaty and the creamy sauce the mix in the crab head was so delicious and a perfect pairing with bread. Highly recommend. We also got the seafood rice, which was a bit too watery for my liking, but it was still good. Nunes is on the pricier side, but I think it was so worth it. read more

Our tour guide recommended this restaurant to us but we found it to be overpriced and not worth it. The waiter upsold everything. He suggested we try the iberico ham with the bread. A plate of 3-4 thin slices was 22 euros! It tasted no different than what you could get at a convenience store in Lisbon. My husband got what he thought was a whole small lobster and it was only a lobster tail. My kids got king prawn but each dish was only one large prawn. Also, the waiter asked if they'd like fries instead of green beans and they said yes. When we got the bill we had been charged for the fries. I got the seafood bisque with pastry topping which was 16 euros. The waiter insisted I should get the white truffle with it. But he wouldn't say how much it was. Another waiter wearing white gloves shaved the truffle into my soup but I could not taste it at all (I normally love truffle!). When we got the bill the truffle was 20 euros! More than my bisque! Our bill was 290 euros! And the waiter pointed at the recommended 20% tip and said it was totally optional while holding out the electronic card swiper so my husband felt compelled to give 20% on an already way overpriced meal. Also the decor is garish, with gold everywhere and giant plaster cast statues and a huge aquarium stuffed to the brim with live crabs and lobster that made us squeamish. Don't waste your money here. That night we found a wonderful little corner restaurant with live fado music and excellent seafood for only 100 euros. read more

This restaurant is not 4-1/2 stars for nothing. They have tanks of wide variety of fresh seafood. Quite pricey as most are sold by weight. Our server was very patient showing and suggesting some seafood we were not familiar with. Today my husband and I came to try some unique types of seafood. *PERCEVES: Barnacles (€195/Kg): interesting and yummy *BRUXAS: Lesser Slipper Lobster (€130/Kg): tastes similar to lobster The ff were very well done! *SPAGHETTI AGLIO OLIO E SCAMPI: Spaghetti Aglio Olio with Shrimps €28 (shrimp pieces were plenty and huge) *LINGUADO MEUNIÈRE: Sole Meunière €34 (this was deboned in front of us) Unique, steamed and cooked to perfection! This is an old classic upscale restaurant in Lisbon. I saw many tourists and some locals. The seafood was fantastic - we had the seafood rice and shrimp. Chocolate dessert was also divine. It's a large place with tanks and you can select your lobster, crab, etc. We didn't have a reservation and arrived late (5 of us) so I was grateful to be seated and enjoy the meal. The servers were attentive and even took the kids to see the seafood tanks so we could have a few min to ourselves. The place was very pricey and upscale. read more

When I went to the restaurant, I had told the waiter. I like fish, scallops, and shrimp but I don't want to see the heads. And then I told him what I wanted to eat and he said he would bring shrimp and scallops and then we can order the entrée. Scallops were good. Then he brings shrimp with caviar in it and it did not taste good I actually felt really sick and then he brings a lobster but the legs in the head when I specifically said, please don't bring that over, I just got nauseous eating the bite of shrimp I fell he took advantage of me because I am an American. Really caters to tourists (which we were, full disclosure) but we were hoping to have more authentic experience The prices are really steep for the area. I tried the grilled grouper which was a bit bland. The grouper with the shrimp and rice was flavorful but not sure the price is justified. Do your homework before you go. This place caters to tourists so you get great food but you pay for it!! The service is great. Has a good and very reasonable wine list. The service staff speak English well so no issues. Extremely fresh seafood! It's not a quaint local place, so don't expect it to be. You can certainly enjoy the seafood and wine! read more

Very overpriced. Also, poor service and very slow. Pretentious. It could do way better. I do not recommend. The shrimp were not to order. The fish was bland. We are big fans of fresh seafood and this place looked great given the fact that they have tanks full of live seafood and a good selection of nice looking seafood on ice. The ambiance is nice and the place is clean. We had a very tasty grouper dish and the percebes were good. We were very unhappy with our server, however, who constantly tried to upsell us on everything. I understand that he was trying to make sales, but he was being very pushy and rude and it was not a pleasant experience. Aside from the hard-sell approach, I was very unhappy when I asked for a live clawed lobster and the waiter brought out a pre-cooked one. I said I'd like a live one, so he went to the tank and brought back a live lobster, but it was a spiny lobster, not the kind I asked for. So I asked him to bring a live clawed lobster and he rolled his eyes and seemed very annoyed. We thought it was extremely unprofessional. We were being polite and didn't think his behavior was warranted. He finally brought the correct type of lobster to the table and I said it looks good. Unfortunately, when he served the lobster, it was bland, rubbery, and poorly cooked. I am not certain, but I think he may have served us the pre-cooked lobster after all. High-end spectacular seafood. My 9yo esp loved it: Huge fish/crab tanks, very efficient service, superb seafood (calamari, fish, etc typical Lisbon). Also had a spinach puree which was amazing-- looked like dark, gloppy green paint, but unique (concentrated spinach taste). THIS PLACE IS A SCAM. Please don't fall for it like we did. We were staying at the Palacio do Governador which had a fully reserved restaurant, and suggested we go to Nunes as a "great alternative with delicious seafood." Upon arrival we were immediately treated as if they really didn't want us there. The host was rude and uninterested, and the service was a joke. First we asked for a half-bottle of wine and when he brought the full size, we said we wanted to change it and we had to spend 10 minutes repeating that "no, we didn't ask for the whole size and can we please exchange it?" After saying we DID order it 3 times he finally said yes we can exchange it. They brought some flavorless food and never returned to the table to ask how it was or if we needed anything else. We had to wait forever to just pay the bill and had to ask someone random to let us pay. Every interaction was rude and condescending. They put the most expensive starter on the table as if it was complimentary but then charged us after for it. We've heard this is common here so just be aware. The food was out of a can and NOT as advertised by the restaurant or hotel staff. Watch out and go somewhere else. read more
