Not my favorite of José Avillez. I came here after Cantinho which I enjoyed more. The food was good but not great. The squid dish was suggested by the waiter and I honestly wish I ordered something else. It was very salty. Huge portion. The squid itself was cooked very well though. The bread was good but nothing special. I didn't find the Smokey butter taste very Smokey. The rice dish desperately needed a vegetable so I ordered the tomato salad. It was simple, flavorful, and huge. I enjoyed that most of all. I did want dessert but felt unwilling to spend so much in a pastel de nata... read more

3.5 Stars Had heard a lot about Chef Avillez's restaurants, but unfortunately this just did not live up to the hype. First, the good - the airy courtyard-vibe was pretty. The food was just decent - I enjoyed the tuna tartare, and the battered hake fillet was good but nothing special. My dining partner really enjoyed their octopus, and claimed it was the best she's ever had. One of my other dining partners ordered the blue lobster rice, however unfortunately for its price (60 euros), it tasted the same as any seafood rice from any other restaurant, with a few pieces of lobster thrown in. The main problem was the excessively slow service. We made our reservation for 7:30PM, but it was close to 9PM before our food arrived. I understand the stereotype of American tourists not appreciating the leisurely European dining experience, but waiting for 1.5 hours was really unpleasant, and we felt rushed after the food arrived as we had plans for after dinner. Would not recommend. read more

We enjoyed our meal at Pateo, first time dining at one of Jose Avillez's restaurants. Loved the lamb shank, well done and beautifully plated. Octopus salad equally delicious. For desert tried the Pastel de Nata Mille Feuille, delicate yet a little underwhelming. Open space since we dined in the upper level, service on point, and buzzy vibe. Would eat here again. read more

We got there without any reservation. Unfortunately it was the worst restaurant experience in our Portugal trip. It was the most expensive and yet the worst in terms of taste . We ordered a medium rare steak, it arrived rare. Of course they had no problem to redo it, but it was tasteless . Same goes for grilled octopus , bland . The only dish that was good , but not great, was Grilled sea bass with shrimp rice . Very disappointed . The dessert was very mediocre. read more

One of our favorite meals in Lisbon. The ambiance is really stunningly beautiful, under a huge skylight with flower garlands. Our daughter got the "mug" cocktail which she loved - tequila, lime, ginger, yuzu and elderflower foam served in copper mug. We got bread service w/ delicious olives and olive bread, and ordered: the roasted clams (amazing!) the beef tartar w/ capers, very flavorful; broad beans w/ chorizo, boiled egg and coriander - smallish green colored white beans in an amazing tomato sauce!; and roasted octopus w/ garlic and rosemary over pureed potatoes and grilled peppers; wow, so tender and delicious. Absolutely recommend! read more

Excellent food made by a chef with exquisite skills. Lunch for 4, after being seated by the lovely hostess, Maria. She even gave us a tour of the incredible space. Amazing. We had the seared tuna, beetroot salad, grilled chicken, vegetables, steak, shrimp and rice! Sooo good. Plentiful portions, excellent service and very classy interior. This place will be BIG soon. Ate here on my first day in Lisbon and enjoyed the meal! The courtyard we were seated in was gorgeous. There was a bit of a mix up with our wine order; we were excited to try a bottle of vino verde, but were served a rosé instead. This was a bit disappointing. Besides this slight miscommunication we enjoyed our meal. read more

What did I eat? This tastes like baby food. It is so mashed up. Just look at my picture, you can decide. Two dishes were mush too. They pureed it too much. I can barely taste the ingredients, it all blended together. I had 3 of the chef's specials. For the appetizer, the octopus tartare was okay. It tasted like it had too much mayo. I can't taste any kimchi and pickles in it. The 2 main dishes. The bras-style cod with exploding olives. There were a total of 3 olives. Wow, I didn't know olives were expensive. The "must try" Shrimp Acorda had whole pieces of shrimp. Everything else is mystery mush. The restaurant had a cool hidden minibar / speakeasy behind a secret green shelf. It passes the vibe check. But for food, this was just hype. I agree with the other reviews, it's a tourist trap. read more

Service was great. We ordered lots of small dishes and always had something arriving- and it was all delicious.

Decent Portuguese food with prices that should make you run away. The cost for my dinner for 2 people was the same as my local neighborhood restaurant charges for 6 of us. And for large tables they automatically add a large tip. Lastly, the service and food does not match the prices - you are paying for an "upscale" atmosphere. I suggest going local and getting better food at much much cheaper prices. Clearly catering to wealthy here... read more

Came here for lunch to celebrate my friends birthday. Reservations were pretty easy to make online and we were seated immediately. Service was good, but the food took forever to arrive. It was worth the wait tho, as the seafood rice and the octopus were both really good. The citrus in the seafood rice was a little too strong initially, but as the dish cooled, it worked really well and we started enjoying it a lot more. They also offered us a small dessert on the house upon learning that it's my friends birthday. Overall, prices are on the high side but at least the food was good! read more

This place has a great ambiance, and our server was fantastic. We ordered the: - Pirri pirri chicken w/ salad and fries (delish!) - Hummus eggplant app (10/10 and so unique) - Prawn app (also really good, and creative / different) One of our best meals while visiting Lisbon, would definitely come back. read more

It was our last night in Lisbon and my husband wanted to go to a special place. Famous Portuguese chef Jose Avillez created this neighborhood with 5 of his restaurants under one roof. Pateo was named Best Seafood in Lisbon. IMO.. NOT EVEN CLOSE! They act like they are, tourists flock here, sip wine, and pretend they understand food. I walked into an empty restaurant at 7:00 and was told all the tables were reserved but if we were patient, We would be seated. I tried to make a reservation but the internet was too slow. What the host should have said was... I'm sorry, there are 4 other restaurants here, you should find another. Sat at the bar for an hour and a half and you couldn't order any food or appetizers... just drinks. Finally got a table and was less than impressed. Shrimp Acorda- menu listed it as a Must- Try Portuguese dish. It had shrimp and other ingredients... but honestly, when the waitress opened the lid of the pot on the table, we didn't know what to think. Look at the photo and you decide. My husband said it was ok, but I tasted it and it had way too much coriander and bread. Chargrilled Squid on Black rice was very good and that's the only good thing I can say about this restaurant. If you want a tourist trap ... here it is. With so many good restaurants in Lisbon... don't waste your time here, there is so much better. read more

I chose Pateo at Bairro do Avillez for my birthday dinner and I was thrilled with the experience. I'm a huge Jose Avillez fan and Pateo had been on my list for a while. Bairro do Avillez has a variety of dining sections, but I liked the Pateo menu best. When reserving, be sure to look at the menus and reserve for the correct section. Pateo has a fun, slightly upscale vibe, but the whole place is bustling. And the location is great--you can easily walk into Bairro Alto and Santa Catarina. Everything at Pateo was great. We shared couvert and sangria. Couvert is a must here--he bread is so good. I went with the sea bass as my entree and it was grilled to perfection. I loved it. Being at an Avillez restaurant, I of course had to order the avela (hazelnut dessert), and it was just as decadent as I remembered. My friends enjoyed their entrees and desserts, as well. Service was fantastic. Pateo was the perfect place for a celebratory dinner and I can't wait to explore more of Bairro do Avillez. read more

This restaurant is delightful! It is located inside of another restaurant and is also connected to a bar and a pizzeria! When stepping into Páteo, it feels like you're stepping into an outdoor courtyard. There are windows and doors on the wall; there is even a street sign with the name of the famous chef who owns all 4 restaurants, Bairro do Avillez. The service was excellent and the food was very good! We ordered : Duck leg cured and confit Chargrilled squid with black rice Chicken Piri Piri read more

Amazing food and great service! Get the squid and black rice! Fun dessert and spot on cocktails!

Food: 5/5 Service: 5/5 Cleanliness: 5/5 Decor & Style: 5/5 This building has many restaurants in one. Pateo is the restaurant we chose. Taberna, Pizzaria Lisboa, and the Mini bar are the other 3 restaurants in the building. Make sure you tell the host up front which restaurant you are going into. Most places require a vaccination card as well. Amazing Tuna Tartare and Croquettes! We also ordered this dish called: PRAWN AÇORDA "MUST-TRY PORTUGUESE DISH: SHRIMP, BREAD, GARLIC, CORIANDER, RED CHILLI AND EGG YOLK COOKED AT LOW TEMPERATURE" which was very flavorful, but the taste was unique and something i've never had before. I don't have a picture of it because well, after mixing the egg and the prawn's it looks like brown paste so I didn't want to deter anyone from ordering it. It is recommend in my opinion just to get a taste of Portuguese cuisine! Amazing service, great environment and decor! Definitely a must place to try. read more

Food is average. Service is below average. Pricing is unreasonable. $10 for bread? Really? And then: we don't take American credit cards? There is no way this restaurant earned two Michelin stars. No way. Avoid. read more

I had the traditional Portuguese dish called shrimp açorda - bread mixed with shrimp, garlic, and Portuguese spices. The dish is not pretty dish but quite flavorful. It's like an ugly delicious food! It's either you love it or hate it and I loved it!!! My husband got the calamari with black rice which was Smokey and flavorful! I highly recommend both dishes. Apps- tuna tartare and garlic clams which was yum all the way!!! Great atmosphere. It looks like a higher end cafeteria for adults! I highly recommend Páteo!!! read more

Bairro do Avillez - Páteo - Charcuterie Mixed - Seafood Near Me - Lisbon, 11

Very disappointing. We ate in the Páteo section of the complex. My partner ordered the braised tuna (cooked rare) which came out as a sad piece of gray fish with bad texture lacking in flavor and seasoning with 4 sticks of fried "millet" French fries on an otherwise barren plate. No garnish, nothing to make the sad gray fish more appealing. It was so bad he had to send it back. I ordered the Scarlet shrimp, crab, and clams with rice dish. The seafood was over cooked and the dish was too salty and one dimensional. It was edible but very meh. Wine list is poor. The space is large, loud, and hectic. The decor feels 100% contrived. Lisbon has so many amazing restaurants for much better value. Absolutely skip this one. The service was average and they took the tuna off the bill. My sense is this place exists simply to take money from tourists using the heavily marketed Avillez brand name. read more

Bairro do Avillez - Páteo - Braised tuna. Sad, gray, poor flavor on a barren plate. - Seafood Near Me - Lisbon, 11

Huge room, a frenetic atmosphere that was less than relaxed. The server was so stressed he came back to the table three times to check that our order was right. Food was hit or miss. Tuna tartare was excellent. Grilled octopus was over cooked and a ridiculously small portion - one tentacle (I had a whole octopus the night before for half the price at another restaurant). Cod loin with cornbread-chorizo crust was good, but not remarkable. Squid and Black Rice was good, but very little squid on the plate. This place suffers from its giant size and chaotic atmosphere. Overall, and unremarkable, and overpriced. read more
