This was a beautiful restaurant and the food looked like it was art but sadly it did not deliver on taste. The service was great. We went during a transition period for the restaurant, the head chef and the creative force for the restaurant had just announced that she was leaving and it was being transition to a new head chef. We ordered the option with less moments because we had forgotten we had this reservation and had ate a larger lunch before so we were not that hungry. The first that came out was a beautiful beet tartare (I don't eat raw beef so they replaced the beef tartare) and a pickled mussel which I didn't care for the flavor for either. After that was the bread moment which the bread was delicious but disappointing that from a 5 moment tasting menu bread was 1 of the moments. We then had the leche de Tigre that was very delicious After was the hamachi which was delicious but was only two small pieces The next was the ox tongue that I felt I had to force myself to eat. The tongue was cooked boiled and didn't have much flavor but it resulted in a texture that I didn't care for. I love eel but the piece was so small I couldn't even tell it was there. Finally the dessert, the yuzu rice pudding with jasmine ice cream was okay. The ice cream felt like it had gotten freezer burn and was not sweet at all so the balance felt thrown off. We had some of the most delicious desserts in Portugal so this was lackluster. The surprise desserts were good but nothing that blew me away. I'm interested to see how the concept changes now that it's under new leadership because this was very disappointing especially at the price point it was. read more

My wife was super excited to visit during our Lisbon visit, so this was our open night dinner from our tour group. Upon entering, the ambience and vibe are great. Our table wasn't ready so they had us sit at the bar. Ended up getting the Gun Smoke bourbon based cocktail. Good, but boozy. After getting seated, from start to finish the staff was top notch. I was leaning towards the 7 "moments" dinner, but the server convinced my wife that we needed the 10. She is pregnant, so her's was modified. I loved 5/10 the pasta and artichoke dish she had as a sub was maybe my favorite 2/10 I liked were dessert. The bonus one was delicious too. Needless to say the food didn't wow me for the price (303€ with 2x 10 moment meal, 1x cocktail, 1x mocktail, and the 10% suggested gratuity). As soon as I walked in, I felt in a better mood. The greenery outside and inside is so beautiful. I love how they decorated everything! I got a bench seat and it was comfy. All the servers were female, and they were all so nice and professional. They spoke English, which was so helpful. A couple of them had accents, so it was hard for me to understand when they described the dishes. They offer two tasting menus - one vegetal (vegetarian) 85€ and one not 95€. They offer three different drink "menus", one of which is an actual tasting and the other two are pairings. They have separate cocktail and wine lists. Mao Tom Yum 15€ is the cocktail that you MUST TRY. It didn't list tamarind but for some reason tasted exactly like a cold tom yum. Even the server told me it was the best one on the menu. I couldn't taste the alcohol. It was green because of matcha, but I couldn't taste the matcha. I got the omnivorous menu, so it was 95€ per person. I don't want to ruin any surprises, but basically each dish is creative and carefully crafted. You can see them prepping on the walk to the dining area through the big windows. Even the main dessert dish, which was the dish that helped Chef Louise Bourrat win French Top Chef in 2022, was tasty. There was one dish I didn't finish of the 10+. I found this restaurant on the Michelin website. I researched almost all of the restaurants listed. They don't have a star here, but their menu and price made me try them out. I am very glad I did! The receipt had a 10% service charge added, so you could see the price with and without the extra charge. The server explained that it was optional. They accepted credit card. read more

I'm going to drop a big recommendation here but also going to give a critical review. If you're trying to be elite, then you get the elite review! Firstly at 95 euro for the omnivore, BouBou's is a must. You're going to get a true Michelin experience that would cost you 2x at least in the states. You'll get a 2-3 hour amazing culinary experience here and I urge you to splurge and treat yourself. There were four dishes that absolutely blew our faces off. The highlights were the Sweet Potato soup was a flavor explosion like I've never experienced and that alone was worth the price of admission. The first app was unreal as well, the bread was unmatched, and the hamachi dish was another huge highlight. Like with many fixed menu places though, the next two dishes that were more like your "mains", the taste buds lost luster. The first was a fish with foam and yada yada, that all together was pretty mediocre. Next one a small little lamb bite cooked in some fat that I don't remember (sorry!) which was good not great. It's something maybe I just don't understand about the life, but I absolutely love ab and you cannot beat a perfectly cooked chop or rack. Some things you maybe can't elevate and actually lose when you try? Keep it simple! For that reason I'm rating 4.5 closer to 4 than 5. For the price and prestige I expect all dishes to hit 9/10 at least. In this case 10/10, 7000/10, 13/10, 7/10, 8/10. The desserts subsequently were definitely elite and finished off the meal perfectly. I also wouldn't recommend the wine pairing. 65 euros for 5 pours, in which you'll undoubtedly get at 1 or more wines you could've probably lived without. I've had pairing that truly brought the experience to a whole nother level and I didn't feel it here. The somm is awesome here and you'll get the same experience with her going ala carte and will get better value. But you do you! Bottom line, go here and don't think twice. read more

This may be one of the best meals I've ever had. It's the most expensive meal we had in Europe, but it was so incredible! Each course was served expertly, and the staff was great at communicating what and how we were eating each course. I did the carte Blanche wine pairing, and it was worth every penny. I did leave with a major crush on the sommelier - so just know she's so helpful and amazing at describing each wine! What a delightful restaurant. It is much more than just a delicious meal, it is an amazing experience. The restaurant is on a quiet street in the Principe Real neighborhood. The physical space is very inviting. It is a cozy and intimate space with delightful decor that makes you feel like you are eating in an outdoor garden. It is casual yet elegant. While I saw some reviews that staff the staff is not attentive, we found just the opposite to be true. The staff to patron ratio is very high and they were super pleasant, friendly and attentive from greeting at the door to the end of the meal. They serve either a seven or ten course tasting menu. We opted for the 7 course meal without wine pairing but the sommelier was so helpful and knowledgeable to help us picked out from a few great options to pair with our dishes. Eta v course was a beautiful blend of tastes and textures and a visual treat (especially the sardine, which was a piece of art and delicious). The wines paired perfectly with the food. The staff explained each dish as it came. As I mentioned earlier, this is an experience, not just a meal. The 7 course tasting menu took over 2 hours to serve, which was the right pace. Eccentric wine couplings with the 7 'moment' dinner. The white Azore's wine was almost devoid of flavor. The orange wine from Georgia was virtually unsinkable. The food however although eccentric in itself was notable for introducing us to flavors and combinations that startled and thrilled. $500 for two of us should have provided wines at least as good as the two reds that came with the meat dish. read more

Left in fate's hands, I somehow stumbled on BouBou's not knowing what I was getting into. I asked the hotel I was at for a "nice meal" and they made me a reservation for me, alone at this great place. When I walked into the nondescript place I was immediately met by the bartender and host who knew 5 languages and mixed me up a concoction off the top of her head. Then I was lead back to the seating area which is basically inside a greenhouse. I got sat at my table for one and had the most amazing service throughout the night. Everyone came by (I think because they knew I was the only solo diner there- not recommended for this type of place in my opinion) to ensure that I was still having a great time and enjoying everything. Lots of small talk which was pleasant. The food blew me away and was basically elevated recipes of local food. It is a tasting menu and the journey that they took me through definitely challenged my tastebuds a few times, but super enjoyable and a great blend of rustic and high end techniques. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone in this area...just maybe not alone so you're not sitting solo in the corner, kind of like a creep, while everyone else was on a date. read more

This is the first review I've given that I can honestly say I wish there were 6 stars to give to an extra special restaurant. This is a hefty review so if you don't read the whole thing just take my recommendation and don't leave Lisboa without stopping there. Make sure at least 2 in your party split the lamb kebab. My brother found this place on our first night in Lisbon while walking around the neighborhood. We otherwise would have never found it. It's a small entrance on a small side street away from the tourist area. One of the waiters named David told my brother that it was excellent and we had to try it. I am so glad we did. Ambience: When you walk in there is a small bar on the left. Once you walk to the back you will see some more tables on the right and half of the kitchen on the left. I was shocked how big this place was walking in. We were led to the back room which is a covered patio. It was beautiful in there, the wait staff was very accommodating (and spoke fluent English as well as Portuguese,) and there was a band playing. It felt like we were outside even though it was covered as it was a solid glass roof. There was also a band playing that was seriously good. It was two guys who were playing a standard guitar and a Portuguese guitar. They were so passionate and it was a great addition to the meal. Food: The food was excellent. They had snacks, starters, mains, sides, and a two dish part of the menu called "go big or go home" which is to serve two people. We started with the tapioca marshmallow, crispy squid, grilled gambas (prawn), and the mackerel ceviche. It was all made fresh, hot, and flavorful. Two of our party got the "go big or go home" lamb kebab dish. That was the highlight of the meal. They bring over an entire lamb shank and break it apart with a spoon because it was so tender. They also bring several sides with it such as tzatziki, Chimmichuri, and pepper sauce. The other mains we got were the crab pappardelle and the Caesar salad. Those were also great. The pappardelle had a thick crab filled bisque sauce which went perfectly with the thick noodles. The salad was also excellent but I wouldn't recommend getting that if you come here. The desserts were also excellent and I recommend getting the Paris brest w/ almond praline. We also got the cremoso yuzu but that was a bit small of a portion. Alcohol: We had champagne, a glass of red, rose, and some port for dessert. The waitress was so knowledgeable she could be a sommelier and the wine was all from local vineyards. Other details: The service was great and everyone was friendly. I was also extremely impressed to hear that the head chef was a 24 year old woman who loves to travel and bring different tastes from the places she visits into the restaurant. There was a Mediterranean, Portuguese, middle eastern, and South American influence. She is going to go very far. Also, the price was pretty good. It may be slightly above average for Portugal standards but coming from Los Angeles where I live it was a steal. For a full meal with appetizers, mains, desserts, and multiple drinks it was just under 250 euros. We enjoyed our meal at BouBou's. They only had tasting menus the night we visited, most of which seemed to very heavily oriented to seafood. I'm uncertain if it's always oriented that way.
