I used to order from here pretty often and always loved the food, especially the Parmesan fries. Decided to try the vegan French dip and have mixed feelings. The French Dip menu description (and photo) lists it as coming with au jus, horseradish aioli on the side, The pressed /panini sandwich I would think it should melt some of the 3 slices of cheese just sitting alongside the tasty roll. Unfortunately, my order didn't match ingredients & pics. There was no au jus or aioli included, and the sandwich itself wasn't pressed--the cheese was thick and unmelted, which really changed the overall experience. The fries were still great, but for $24, I was expecting something closer to what was described. Hoping this was just an off day, because I know how good their food can be.
Everything here was great. My first time while visiting Philly, and my server suggested the birria tacos to me over the cheesesteak :) It did not disappoint. Also paired it with lemonade, stirred not shaken, and I had an amazing dining experience here. The wait staff were super kind, and they also played the best 80s lite rock inside.
Twas good for an all vegan feast. We got a baby lasagna, the suspiria birria, and Stuart Gordon. Baby lasagna was fire and my favorite bite of the night. My first time having lasagna! The ricotta was thick and tomato sauce was seasoned well. The suspiria birria def needed the consommé with it. Consommé was giving Thanksgiving gravy lowkey. don't know if I would consider this a cheesesteak though. Tbh I forgot that it was supposed to be a cheesesteak until now as im writing this. The chunks of meat and mushroom were not dry and went well with each other. Most of the flavor is from the consommé tho Stuart Gordon was probably the weakest bite of the three. It was super dry and made it had to eat. There needed to be more spice in the aoli as well. The salami was a new thing for me and it was weirdly salami textured and I was not expecting that lol. If there was a way to make the cutlets less dry, I think this would be better Overall great place for vegan stuff and I'd come back for pasta dishes
Food was amazing during happy hour! Realized we ate the food before the camera. Delightfully surprised with how tasty everything was and it was all vegan! Went during Halloween time and the inside definitely was decked out with a Halloween themed interior. We loved that the server came by multiple times during happy hour so that we could put in more food throughout. Overall, a great experience and would come back again!
I was greeted when I walked in. I was able to find parking around the corner. Great customer service. The restaurant was SO cute. I loved that everything was vegan. I ordered a Philly cheesesteak. I wasnt a fan of the taste. But the atmosphere and customer service made up for the review.
Easily one of the best places I went to in Philly. I had one goal to eat and find a vegan cheesesteak and monster vegan was at the top of the list. I'm a huge horror movie fan so having that plus vegan food was an instant win. The inside is so retro and plays older horror movies while the bar is neon pink and fabulous! The service we had was exceptional. She was so friendly and offered recommendations to us. The spicy fries with the vegan chop cheesesteak was outstanding. I can't wait to go back and I will be recommending to all! 12/10!!
Monster Vegan is a must-visit if you love themed restaurants and great food. I'm a huge fan of classic monster movies, so the atmosphere immediately hooked me. A lot of themed spots lean hard into aesthetics but fall short on food. That was not the case here at all. I ordered the double smashed burger with fries and it was excellent. The burger was flavorful and satisfying, and the onion rings inside the sandwich were a great touch that really brought it together. My wife ordered the vegan cheesesteak with Impossible meat. She didn't finish it, which worked out perfectly for me because I got to enjoy the other half. The peppers added a nice kick and the sandwich was just as good as the burger. What really made this visit special was the kindness of the staff. We asked if the kitchen could blend our daughter's soup (chicken de jour), and they were incredibly understanding and accommodating. That willingness to go above and beyond meant a lot to us and did not go unnoticed. This was my 3rd visit to the restaurant and I have yet to be disappointed. I'm already excited for my next visit next year.
Took me a while to get back here for a second try. Love the horror theme. Sat at the bar & watched the video feed of Horror Hosts through the years. Bartender was attentive. Tried one of their popular pasta dishes. The vegan sausage was quite tasty.
Love the decor! Very chic and not cheesy at all Food was delicious!! Honestly the best in town.

Love this place. The ambiance is like a horror movie but with vegan food and drinks to tide you over until your demise. Anything you can do, Monster Vegan can do vegan. From vegan sandwiches to meals to appetizers to desserts to cocktails and mocktails, Monster Vegan does it, and does it well. During my multiple visits I've ordered sandwiches, specials, a dessert and a mocktail and have not been let down. The fried chicken (on the fried chicken banh mi) was excellent. Crispy, without being too greasy. The bread was impressive, toasty on the outside, soft on the inside. I loved the crispy Brussels on the General Tso's Cutlet Hoagie as well. The service here, top notch. I've done both take out and dine in and everything exceeded my expectations. When I'm in Philly, I will continue to make Monster Vegan a must stop.
Drinks were really good especially the "Halloween the night... He came home" which has coconut rum, pumpkin, matcha, ginger-cinnamon simple, oat milk, toasted marshmallow, Halloween fortune cookie - tasted like a pumpkin matcha latte, yum!! We also got some more drinks like Hack-o-Lantern, Trick or Tiki Death Punch (served in a jack-o-lantern!) and a special with Apple Cider. I do think the drinks were weak because I couldn't even get a slight buzz after 2 drinks. For food, we got an app each - Petite Lasagna and Korean BBQ wings - both were quite filling. I liked the lasagna but the bbq wings were very hard to bite into. Staff was very welcoming and friendly.
Frequently get takeout from here and always enjoyed the food!! Usually get the vegan Korean wings but decided to try the pesto pistachio bucatini and it did not disappoint!! Food is always prepared within 10-15 minutes of ordering and service is exceptional. Every time I come here the fun atmosphere makes me want to stay for a drink. Looking forward to coming back for a happy hour!

One of my new favorite vegan places in the world! The atmosphere: moody, skeletons, clips of B-rated horror films playing endlessly on the TVs ... and also glitter, a soft pinky/purply glow, a tremendously welcoming/inclusive vibe. It's playful and cool and fun all at the same time. The staff here? Wildly accommodating, friendly, knowledgeable about their menu, and also exceptional at "reading the room" (eg we were given lots of space to just eat and drink without them checking in us needlessly). DRINKS: I had the Zombie Beach Party (coconut rum, light rum, pineapple, blue curacao, lime). It was a neon blue boozy slushy served in a glass skull topped a little pink umbrella and the juxtaposition of that alone is iiiiiiiiiincredible. (Also these are dangerous; I had two and they went down a little too easily, y'know?). FOOD: At our server's recommendation we got a half order of the Korean BBQ Wings (which were described as "very spicy") and the Tiki Wings ("kind of sweet"). Both are made from crispy seitan and are served with a cucumber ranch. I think they were okay, they kind of tasted similar to be honest, and the Korean wings were definitely not that spicy. We also got the Yokai Fries (fries topped with shishito peppers, togarishi, and yum yum sauce); sooooooo moreish! But ask for more yum yum sauce. The absolute killer (pun intended) here was the fried mac and cheese balls. NO MATTER WHAT, GET THESE. It comes in an order of two, they're tennis ball sized, the mac and cheese is not dry but gooey, the tomato sauce and generously sprinkle of parm bring the whole thing together. I'm fairly confident I could have eaten an order by myself (just like I'm fairly confident I could have had four Zombie Beach Parties). You ARE going out of your way to come here if you find yourself in Philly, friends! read more
We popped in after a show in the area. It was our first time trying a vegan restaurant, so our expectations were nonexistent. This place is beautifully decorated. The vibe is horror movie chic, if ya know what I mean. We were greeted and seated promptly and immediately checked out the menu to see what we should try. We asked for the macaroni balls as an app, but they were sold out. A few minutes later, we were told we could order them bc the chef had made a new batch. Yay!! So, we started with the Mac balls and seitan Korean wings. Our apps arrived and I must admit. I enjoyed the seitan wings more than I did the Mac balls. The Korean BBQ (seitan) wings had an amazing sauce that truly made me forget I was at a vegan restaurant. They were crispy, savory, and just delicious. I decided to go with the gyro and my partner went with the cheese steak for his entree. My gyro was yummy! The impossible beef, lettuce and tomato were reminiscent of a regular gyro. I truly couldn't tell the difference. My partner loved his cheese steak too. Monster vegan is a HIT!! Would we try it again? Absolutely!! read more

Went here a while ago and have wanted to come back to it. The vibes inside are amazing and really fun. We went during happy hour and the deals were pretty good. We ordered the Calamari masala and I had a margarita. Both were delicious. I ordered the Tikka masala sandwich and it was so good. All the food was really filling. My fiancée ordered the spritz and j got a frozen marg which were big fantastic. The food was very filling and our server was super helpful and knowledgeable. Overall a great experience! read more

Visited in person during lunch on a Friday afternoon. Although it wasn't crowded it took a couple of minutes to get seated. Once seated my waitress was very attentive and helpful. I ordered the chop-top which I had before (via Uber Eats), enjoyed, and wanted to get again. I also ordered the yokai fries which were delicious!!! I don't think you can wrong with any of their fry options as they are all good! Highly recommend. The food is always filling and you definitely get your moneys worth. Loved the theme of the restaurant with horror movies playing on various screens, design of the restaurant, and the shape of the cups. Looking forward to visiting again during my next trip to Philadelphia. read more

Ordered via DoorDash so I didn't get to experience the cool vibes/fun decor of this spot, but the food was incredible! Traveling with my non vegan family so I ordered a vegan cheesesteak while they ate the real thing. WOW was it good! I opted for the Impossible meat option over seitan and vegan ribeye (although I am interested in that ribeye!) I added the fries which were excellent- crispy and topped with really good Parmesan and served with a horseradish sauce. I also added a caeser salad which was pretty great, and Oreo beignets which were interesting and enjoyable. I didn't know what to expect with the beignets, and almost didn't order them, but I am glad I did. They were so delicious they didn't even need the dipping sauce. This meal was absolutely incredible despite being a delivery, and I look forward to trying it in person next time. Definitely recommend this great vegan spot! read more

SERVICE - located near downtown Philadelphia - parking available on street or at nearby garages - reservations optional but not required - large interior with two hidden rooms for seating - tables can accommodate larger or smaller groups - spooky themed with horror movies on the screens and halloween inspired drinkware - servers were friendly but almost too pushy when it came to asking us about our food. i felt rushed to eat rather than enjoying the meal slowly - food served relatively quickly - ambiance good for a semi casual meal MENU - plant based comfort food with shareable and entrees - all vegan/vegetarian - average price FOOD - exorcist fries (3/10): fries dusted with Mexican spice blend topped with jalapeños and served with sides of vegan queso and cilantro aioli. This was a bit of a letdown as it was just fries. The jalapeños were raw and added no flavor to the fries unless you are the whole slice. The cheese sauce lacked flavor and it would have been nicer if it was smothered on top. Both the sauces were creamy and light which had no contrast. - fried mac and cheese balls (6/10): two big macaroni and cheese balls on a bed of marinara sauce. This is an accurate representation of the comfort feel of the menu. The balls are large and can easily be split between a few people. Texturally, i liked the contrast between the crispy exterior and the al dente pasta. I would have liked more flavor and creaminess from the cheese. The marinara also lacked flavor besides tomato. - calamari masala (8/10): fried oyster mushrooms with a side of tikka masala sauce. This was my favorite of the dishes we ordered. The mushrooms are crispy with a meaty interior that is the ideal size for picking up and dipping. The sauce was the highlight. It is creamy yet spicy with some acidity from the lemon and tomato. I would order this just for the sauce. - crispy parmesan asparagus (7/10): four asparagus sprigs coated in panko breadcrumbs and topped with pesto and ricotta with a side of arugula salad. This was a substantial portion for either a main or to share as an appetizer. I appreciated the amount of arugula in the salad as a refreshment for the fried foods. The salad was generously dressed with olive oil yet the leaves retained crispness. I enjoyed the asparagus as well especially with the herby pesto and creamy ricotta. The only thing that i would have changed was giving more tender asparagus stalks as some of the ends were too tough to eat. - fried eggplant bucatini (8/10): bucatini in a vodka sauce topped with ricotta, arugula, and two slices of fried eggplant. This dish was served piping hot which made it very enjoyable. The sauce is creamy yet fresh and the pasta is cooked al dente. WOULD I GO BACK? Yes! It was a fun atmosphere and the menu caters to people who are looking for vegan alternatives to meat heavy or comforting dishes. read more
Ok so this place has an all vegan menu, but the mock-meat tastes just like real meat and it really weirded me out. I got the Ruben, and I tried to eat it, but I really couldn't. My daughter got a salad which I tried and it was pretty good. I think this place is best suited for meat eaters who want to eat healthier/have a vegan experience, or people who somewhat recently gave up meat and still want that experience. Someone like me, a vegetarian for nearly 20 years and isn't used to all these vegan tastes/textures that are just like meat, could not handle it. Or at least the Ruben. The atmosphere was pretty cool, good vibes. I appreciate what they are trying to do though, and wish them success, it just wasn't my cup of tea. read more

What a fun place to discover walking down Spruce! I had Monster Vegan on my list to try and decided to pop in when walking by. The decor inside is a neon vibe with monster movies of yore playing in the background. There's ample space indoor and outdoor. I'm a pescatarian who doesn't eat meat so I could finally indulge in creamy pasta without the stomach ache! I also tried a mocktail and it came in the cutest skull glass. I want to come back and try all of the things! read more

I've been to monster vegan several times and I am always impressed with their menu, service, and overall ambience! I went for restaurant week and indulged in four courses of incredible vegan food! Every course was unique, flavor packed, and so impressive! The overall spooky decor is well done and just enough! The staff is always friendly and attentive. If you are new to vegan food, you should this place a try, you will not be disappointed! read more
So I came here on a weeknight and was seated very quickly. Everyone was welcoming and our server brought us our food and water, acting vert attentively. The entire menu is vegan/veg and so the multitude of options made selecting a dish tricky... but I decided on the General Tso's hoagie. It had faux chicken and deliciously cooked Brussel sprouts on top. There was also vegan cheese and mayo. My favorite part was certainly the Brussel sprouts. We also ordered dessert, and the friend beignet Oreos were like friend Oreos. The meal itself was a bit pricy and gratuity is automatic, but the food proved worth it. Overall, chill vibes inside. Lots of pink neon and 80s music. I've also heard they occasionally play old horror films so that's neat. read more
This restaurant has a very cool monster theme. It's in the decor and the glassware. Also, it's vegan! I went for the restaurant week menu. Very excited to try the all vegan menu. 1st course was Roasted Grapes and Whipped Ricotta. It was so delicious. The grapes perfectly roasted and ricotta was super creamy. 2nd course Arancini. It had a nice crunch with a long cheese pull. 3rd course General Tso's Cutlet Hoagie. The sandwich had perfectly crispy brussel sprouts tossed in the same wonderful sauce as the chicken. Last course Oreo Beignet Sundae. The fried Oreos paired perfectly with the ice cream. I sat at the bar. All staff was very friendly and welcoming. read more

Not surprising from the name but they are 100% vegan in meat, cheese and breads. The inside vibe is very cool. It's like a bar/restaurant and 80s cheesy horror flick clashes into 1 place. Very fun cocktails and mocktails to pick from. Food selection isn't huge but ton more vegan options than most places. We arrived at 1:30 on Saturday and were worried it would be busy but it wasn't. It picked up a little as we sat and ate. There only seemed to be 1 staffer working when we arrived but he was attentive and cute!! read more
Came to Monster Vegan for dinner. The cool, modern interior matched the creative menu! We loved everything we tried: Korean BBQ Wings: 4.5/5 Smoky, sweet, and perfectly sticky. A must-try! Fried Chicken Banh Mi: 4/5 Crisp and flavorful with fresh veggies and a kick of spice. Elvira's Movie Macabre: 4/5 fruity and sweet but a bit too boozy. Highly recommend for plant-based comfort food. Service was attentive and helpful with recommendations. Will be back again when in Philly! read more
What feels like a million years ago, this used to be Valanni restaurant and bar. The inside is still the same but the vibes are way better now. The bar has a year round 'monster' / spooky season vibe and I'm here for it. Plus everything is vegan and SO tasty. Even most non-vegans won't be able to tell. I love their whipped ricotta and all the sandwiches. This round tried the pasta dishes and they were filling, affordable and delicious. Definitely keep in mind for HH or quick dinner spot if you're in the Gayborhood / Midtown! read more
What an awesome place! We went here for a double date during restaurant week. I love nothing more than sipping my liquid death tall boy out of a straw. Of course they would have liquid death! Horror movies play. A creepy soundtrack for your dinner. Rob Zombie would love this place. I got the ricotta, meatball, deep fried Oreo and general Tso chicken sandwich. The ricotta was perfectly fluffy and the bread was perfectly toasted. Pear with a glaze was such a nice touch. Everyone else got the crab bisque. I tried a spoonful and it tasted delicious. Still glad I chose what I chose though. The deep fried Oreo was on top of this soft serve ice cream that was like a Dairy Queen soft serve but with less air and more body. This place has so much one the menu for it to be a vegan restaurant! It's monster themed inside, from playing Frankenstein to even their glassware. I got their happy hour special with two half sandwiches- chicken Caesar and the general tso. For my side item I got Caesar salad. You have to get the general tso chicken is you're looking for something saucy, it was so good! I paired my meal with the batsquatch IPA- which was served in a skull glass. read more

I had really high expectations for Monster Vegan - the menu online looked so delicious and different, and everything was vegetarian (because it was all vegan!). Came here for a late dinner one Saturday evening. Service was pretty quick. The sandwich was tough and chewy and the bread was hard to eat. We did not like this at all. The pasta was pretty good but had a weird taste to it, maybe from the kale or fake bacon. The wings were okay - chewy as they should be but a little too sticky and hard to swallow. The mac & cheese balls were actually very good! I would order these again. Overall, not sure if I would recommend Monster Vegan. I did go again after this with a friend for a quick drink and we did have a lovely orange mocktail at the bar! read more
