I enjoy Monroe's. This one has very good customer service and I love their sense of humor about themselves. In fact there is a sign saying on this spot in a certain year nothing happened. read more

Cute restaurant with great service and yummy food! Gluten Free and Low Carb Menus. Light Choices also were nice on the tummy. Thanks for making our stop fulfilling. read more

What a great place! We were in town traveling through when we came upon Monroes on the outskirts of Old town. The appearance was understated and looked a bit outdated but it didn't matter. It was near closing on a Saturday night and yet the waitstaff was so helpful and friendly. Everyone stopped by to see how we were doing and even sang "Happy Birthday" to one of our party. The food was yummy. Everything was fresh and served quickly. Our party had veggie fajitas, meat fajitas and grilled cheese, which were all served hot and delicious. read more

Incredible, personal service. Great food. $3 glasses of wine. Friendly casual atmosphere. Enough said. :)

Food was ok, but not brilliant. Quite slow, stated any choice of side but was restricted to chips. Quite expensive for what it is, would not race back. read more

Every time we come to ABQ we eat at Monroe's at least 3 times a week. My fiance loves hot food and is never disappointed. The red chili with pork is a killer and the sopapillas the best anywhere. The chicken enchilada's are so moist and tender and I love the fact that everything on the plate is not covered up with tons of cheese and the same sauces. Each item has its own individual flavor. The service is excellent with a team approach and the atmosphere is friendly and casual. read more

Excellent food, excellent service. The food was fresh, flavorful and delicious. The owner greeted us when we walked in the door, and when I asked about vegetarian options, he told us how Monroe's only uses high quality ingredients (no lard, etc.), and that they have several vegetarian options. Our waiter, Jason, recommended two them, and they were the perfect blend of incredible flavors, spicy enough for a thrill but not enough to burn. The calabacitas and avacodo tacos on homemade tortillas were wonderful, and the cheese enchiladas with red and green chile were fantastic. There was no grease in sight, either on the plates or the fresh sopapillas, which were perfect. All of the wait staff worked together and were quick and friendly. A great experience overall! read more

Monroe's Restaurant - Calabacitas and avocado tacos, cheese enchiladas with red and green chile - New Mexican Cuisine Near Me - Albuquerque, New Mexico

Went to Monroe's for lunch during a conference in Old Town. Quick service, great food. Staff was friendly.

The green chili cheese burger was very good. Not to spicy and the service was prompt and friendly.

Sweet baby Jesus!! I don't like chili rellenos but it was "slap your momma" good!!! Come here. Don't think about it. You won't regret it. read more

Our Airbnb hosts recommended Monroe's for its good, local food, and it was within walking distance of our house. While lacking atmosphere, Monroe's delivers on everything else. I polished off my plate of huevos rancheros with the Christmas sauce, potatoes, and sopapilla. Friendly, fast service and overall, a fantastic dining experience. You can feel the love prominently displayed on their heart shaped neon sign. I will definitely be back every time I visit Albuquerque! read more

I have never had "NEW" Mexican food before, Monroe's made a GREAT first impression for us! The service was awesome. All of the staff was friendly and very accomodating. Best of all, the food was so yummy:). I would definitely come back to Monroe's. read more

We found this place here on Yelp when we rolled into Alb NM last night on our way home to LA. We wanted some authentic New Mexico food because we have plenty of the best Mexican food in L.A.. We were not disappointed with Monroe's signature dishes and sauces. The enchiladas with both the red and green sauce rolled in blue corn tortillas were hands down the best! When we arrived we must have looked like visitors so our server (I think he was also the owner) offered us some samples of their sauces and the carne adovada. Not knowing what this was as well as sopaipillas, our servers informed us in a most friendly manner. The rice and beans were barely ok. L.A. Mexican rice and beans are something you shouldn't eat but just have to because it's soooo good and comforting. I highly recommend that your build your own platter and skip the boring r&b. Go for the good stuff only! The chips and salsa are good, the carne adovada is the best and put that inside a blue corn tortilla with some red and green sauce and you'll have a five star winner. Next time I come I'll get a carne adovada platter with some sopaipillas only. The taco platter was ok. I guess they don't fry the hard shell tacos, they serve em up in an "Ortega" type taco shell. It was good if you get the carne A! Save room for a couple of sopaipillas. My son ate both of our's with honey poured all over and inside that light and fluffy piece of heaven on a plate! Great selection of Mexican beer served with lime and a ice cold mug. read more

Genuine and wonderful service. Our first time in and our server was more than happy to make suggestions and get to know us. He suggested the Indian taco for me, and my fiancé already knew he wanted the posole because the server brought him a sample! The food was at our table within 10 minutes, and it was delicious. I don't know how I ate the whole Indian Taco, but I did and I don't regret it. I wish I knew the server's name because he was phenomenal, but even if he hadn't been, the food could definitely stand on it's own. Thank you! read more

Tasty southwestern food, and reasonably priced. The first time I was here my roommate and I were thoroughly entertained by the banter between the line cooks and one of the wait-staff who reminded us of Jack Black. A word of warning: Don't be a dumbass like me and order carne adovada enchiladas after a night of heavy drinking, unless you want all hell to break loose in your digestive system. read more

I have had yelp on my phone for years and this place made me go and make my first review! First off, the owner greeted us and talked to us as though he's known us forever! The staff was then ready to make room for our family asap. The food deserves the most recognition. It was phenomenal! Not only did they let us try multiple samples but the food came our quick and delicious! Came all the way from Dallas, Texas and this was my favorite mexican place! Will definitely come back read more

I'm not going to trash talk what appears to be a family owned business with a nice staff. Suffice it to say i found it disappointing and nowhere near on par with many of the good to exceptional new mexican style restaurants in town. Supposedly their green chile cheeseburger is their signature, sadly I had the enchiladas. read more

We had Monroe's recommended to us by a local that raved about their food. We went for lunch and were happy with it. The service was extremely fast. We barely had a chip or two with the salsa by the time our lunch plates arrived. I had the enchilada platter and it was great. Danelle had the adovada platter and only gave it an ok rating. This is a place where locals go as it is a few blocks away from old downtown. read more

It was getting late on a Monday night as we were driving into ABQ and after a quick search we found that Monroe's was still open so we stopped in for dinner. I loved the food and the Carne Adovada was truly amazing. I can only give 4 stars as my wife ordered a Beef Chimicanga that was lacking in flavor. Otherwise we couldn't have been happier. read more

Read the reviews. The reviews did not do the place justice. Everyone was polite. The service was fast. The food tasted fresh. We greatly enjoyed the food and our experience. read more

Yum! I came here after having the guacamole at a potluck. Yes...it was that good. And I'm picky about my guac. The hub and I went there and man, oh man...I've been missing out. The chips, salsa, and guac are delicious. The chile rellenos are the best I've had at a restaurant. They were crispy and browned...and not soggy. They were perfect. The hubs enchiladas were good, too. I will definitely go back to try more of their yummy options. read more

Si, si, si. Interesting that a Mexican restaurant would be called Monroe's; but, whoever Monroe is he has it going on. The food was excellent. I had a Taco Salad and it was much more than I expected with actual vegetables in it. Most Mexican places give you iceberg lettuce, beans, sour cream and a little cheese. This one had purple cabbage, guacamole, and red and green bell peppers. My body is saying thank you veggie much. Gracias Monroe's. read more

More or less standard SW fare. They do have a few vegan options, so don't be afraid to ask for substitutions. Everyone is really friendly here. read more

Absolutely delish! The enchiladas and tamales are amazing. Beans are great and the sopaitillas were so light and tasty, just a little bit of sweetness makes it perfect! I had never had one of those before. The service was outstanding! read more

My Husband and I come here once a week! The food is ALWAYS consistent! We love the chile here! They sell their salsa as well as red chile sauce (the red chile is totally worth picking up). Everything is really well priced. read more

Had a good carne adovada chimmichanga and sopas. The green sauce was not as picante as I would have preferred.

Awesome food and awesome people! Get the Chille Relleno with steak and green chile!

I ordered the chile relleno plate. I was very grateful that our server was very accommodating about making appropriate switches with my order to make sure it was vegetarian. Everything was tasty, but Monroe's certainly wasn't the best red chile I've ever had. The sopapilla was rather disappointing. It was cold and much chewier than I am used to. Also a little disappointed that they didn't have regular margaritas on the menu, only ones made with agave wine. Good solid New Mexican food. read more

Good. All good. But not the kind of Mexican food I am used to and my family makes. We don't put green chiles on everything. Although I went knowing that I was in New Mexico. read more

Tried adovada and sopapillas for the first time here. The food was very tasty and the service was great. Upon hearing that we hadn't had sopapillas before the waiter gave us a thorough description and suggestions on how to eat them. I'm looking forward to going back! read more

A friend took me here while I was passing through Albuquerque. A great neighborhood restaurant with authentic New Mexican food. I had the taco-guacamole plate and so papilla. The salsa was very fresh and everything was tasty. Great food at a reasonable price! read more

Was in town for business trip, and wanted some "authentic" New Mexican. This quasi-diner place served up a delicious burrito topped with green chilis. I sat at the counter, had a couple local beers (they have a decent selection of macro and micro brews), and some great conversation with the staff. Staff and service get 5 starts, food gets 4. I give it a 4 overall because this is a diner/family style, not fancy place, so I won't give 5. But for what it is, it's great. Go there. Enjoy. read more

Below average food and service. Had the green chili cheese burger; patty was thin and tasteless, low quality bun, although the chili sauce covering it was flavorful. Among the worst chili burgers of the many I've had in Albuquerque. The lettuce in my wife's taco salad, a no-brainer menu item, wasn't fresh, which gave the whole thing an off flavor and included a stray piece of red pepper from someone else's order. Yuk. At 4:30, the place only had a few customers, yet our service was oddly slow. Other employees were congregated at the counter loudly talking amongst themselves, making the slowness more pronounced. read more

Ohhh!!! I really really liked this place. I am not a huge fan of Mexican food but this place is something else. Huge portions, great food quality and the staff is the best. Super friendly and knowledgeable!!I The price was also a pleasant surprise. If I ever go back to Albuquerque I will stop by again FOR SURE. read more

Recommended by one my hotel's shuttle drivers, a local. The service was quick, I had a combo plate with the green chili sauce, which provided the right amount of spice. Very flVorful, will stop by again if in the area. read more

The food was delicious! I had a carne asada chimichanga that I loved. Chips and salsa were delicious. I feel the food was way over priced compared to similar restaurants. Also double check the math before you pay. There was an extra $10 figured in. They seemed a little shady when we brought it to their attention and just laughed it off. We used to go to Monroes fairly often. It's probably going to be a really long time before we go again. read more

I was just in NM for the weekend and kept ordering Carne Adovada everywhere. This was by far the best. And I do want to stress: this is NOT Mexican food, nor does it claim to be. It is NEW MEXICAN food. Go with the right expectation and you'll have a great experience. read more
