Fabulous New Mexican food. Our server (I should have got his name) was great - great recommendations and service. He recommended a couple of dishes - settled on the Chile Reñellos ... carne asada - christmas ... added an Adovada enchilada. Best meal all weekend. It appears from what I see in reviews and what others near me ordered... you can't go wrong here. read more

Really great place for New Mexican cuisine, reasonably priced and the food is great. The tamales are some of the best in town and the service is fantastic! Do yourself a favor and give it a try! read more

Monroe's is a must-go place for fabulous, from-the-heart NEW Mexican cooking. (If you're expecting traditional Mexican, you may be disappointed.) This restaurant showcases it's love and passion for local New Mexican chiles--both red and green. The Indian Tacos are fab, as are the stuffed sopapillas and enchiladas. The service is always friendly, fast, and knowledgeable. read more

Boyfriend and I are here on vacation and we wanted some NM posole, so we stopped here for said tasty treat. I was meeting friends and my time was off, but they were happy to seat is, get us drinks, and provided us with chips and salsa while we waited. We also had a wonderful visit from the manager, Juan, who is a jovial, friendly man. Boyfriend had carne adovada stuffed chile rellenos, I had enchiladas. We shared a bowl of posole. It was all fantastic. read more

Monroe's was my first experience in NM- we got a meal here as soon as we got off the plane from MA. The service was really good- our server was very informative about the food, offered us some of the chilies to try before ordering, and he was attentive and pleasant. I ordered a burger with red chili and sweet potato fries and was very happy with my meal. I wish I could have come back for something else! I love the style compared to a typical American burger. read more

Can't believe I have lived here for 27 years and have not been here before. I seen a couple of bad service comments and it made me a little nervous to be honest but our server was on it tonight. The food was great as well. Not as spicy as I enjoy but a freshly roasted jalapeño fixed that right up. Next time I will order one to add to the guacamole salad! Sorry I didn't catch the servers name- she was the taller one but she did have a little help from her friends. Not that she needed it, they were just that on top of it. Appetizers and main course only took about 45 minuets with no wait time! Thanks guys as a fellow local business owner I appreciated your drive for success. read more

I have not had good experiences eating here, despite visiting repeatedly. Rude management. Poor food flavor / presentation. Somehow, I always had food and / or management problems when I was required to attend for work lunches, which were the only times I ate there. While I wish I could give this restaurant another try to hopefully feel better about Monroe's, I have since left the sunny Southwest for the dreary Pacific Northwest. Sadly, I cannot endorse this restaurant. read more

Too good, man. Too good. Inexpensive Generous menu Quality food Local beer options My mate and I both got the Kathy's special and a local red ale. The kathys special was a thick tortilla served open faced with thick ham, cheddar, chile verde SW style, and a few other basic ingredients. Super solid, hot, delicious for 6.80 ish. Lil spicey thanks to the chili verde (green chilis prob from the area :D) which i loved Polite, prompt service. The servers work their asses off. They were super busy the afternoon we stopped in. I did find it interesting that the pay station was seperate from table service. I think they do that to make service quick. The owner was funny. Our server was great. This town is pretty damn cool. I'll be back some time. Couldn't have picked a better spot, thanks Google read more

This restaurant is the slice of Albuquerque that I'll miss the most. They offer up excellent Mexican, my favorites being their tamales, & anything else featuring their carne adovada. They also offer a small but adequate selection of local beers that come out in cans or bottles but are accompanied with a tall frosty mug. This was the last stop of our NM vacation & the only place we ate at twice for good reason. Give it a try. You won't be disappointed! read more

Great local diner with twit friendly staff. Modestly priced and the food matched late on Sunday Tuesday night. Seemed like it wasn't super fresh. Onion rings were brilliant and the portions were huge! read more

Had the cheese enchiladas with green chili, so good! The green chili was super fresh with big flavorful chunks of green chilies. The refried beans and Spanish rice were great. I usually hardly ever eat all of the sides but my plate is empty...super yum! read more

My family and I went there the other day. My sister and mom got the chicken enchiladas and quesadilla and had a bad experience. My other sister and I got something different and feel fine but the next day they had got food poisoning, it wasn't a good experience. read more

Great food, great value, great service. This place is awesome. No complaints, just a great time. I got a free sopapilla too. I got the special of the day, which I thought came with a sopapilla but didn't (but given how much food I got it wasn't necessary). When I asked about it the staff gave me one for free as take-out. Score! I'm not mentioning this to suggest you should ask for free food but the situation just reflects how nice they are here. read more

UPDATE...The owner, Matthew B. was kind enough to respond to my review and offered for us to visit his restaurant again. Very kind man! Thank you Matthew! read more

Amazing food. I've been here since Friday for a work trip, and I've eaten here 4 times. Seriously..THAT good. The service is excellent and they all work as a team. Everyone is very friendly and accommodating. They take pride in what they do. The food is simply wonderful. I tried the chile rellano the first night, and came back and had the same thing the second night, too. Try the carne adovada and the green sauce..it's wonderful and not too hot. It's got great flavor and doesn't leave your mouth on fire. I highly recommend this place - also had the enchiladas stuffed with carne adovada. The sopapillas (which I had never had before) are a great end to the meal. They are fluffy bread that you put honey on. Try this place!! read more

Monroe's Restaurant - Chile Rellano with carne adovada!!!! Amazing!! - New Mexican Cuisine Near Me - Albuquerque, New Mexico

You must try carne adovada (slow cooked pork and chili) with sopapillas. Four stars for the carne adovada! Also, ask for a sample of the chili sauce... Put chili sauce on the meat. Eat sopapillas with honey. Yummy! As for the other items/meats (ground beef, chicken) if you are from California Arizona and Texas there is not much seasoning/flavor in the meat. When ordering other these items, ask for the chili sauces and extra salsa to put on the meat... then you will enjoy it. read more

I adore the Osuna location hands down my favorite Mexican Restaurant in Albuquerque. So when I got a new job downtown it made sense to come here. The service and food was just as great as the other location. The only downside to this location is the ultra limited parking lot so avoid lunch hour! I'll be back weekly. read more

I enjoyed a great meal and fantastic service. Having some bad experiences else where, this place was a welcome change. The wait staff all work together so you can ask anybody for assistance. The red and green sauces were delicious and pictures of deployed soldiers showing off the sauce should be enough to let you know it's good. I had to try a cup of the green chili and glad I did. read more

Monroe's Restaurant - New Mexican Cuisine Near Me - Albuquerque, New Mexico

Haven't been to Monroe's in years so I decided to try out the new location with my family. I now remember why I don't eat at Monroe's. The service was fine and the new building is beautiful. The food is, well, meh. As a native New Mexican I have eaten at almost all of the NM restaurants in town. I have my local favorites (Barelas, Garcia's, Padilla's) and I know the places to avoid (Wecks, Gardunios, the Range). Unfortunately Monroe's falls into the latter category. It is fine if you are starving or if you think milk and crackers are spicy but if you want authentic steer clear. Their red/green chile is not hot and lacks flavor. It has always been this way and as soon as I got my first bite I knew why I stopped eating here a long time ago. I hate to bash on Monroe's like this and this is only my opinion but it's not great NM food. If you are from Texas or Oklahoma it is probably perfect but those of us that know what our food should taste like should just steer clear. read more

Discovered short walk from city center. Seated immediately at 4p. Chips and salsa were fresh, crisp and thick. Appetizer bowl of green chili & chicken was outstanding. Good stock and spicy. Carne Asada plate arrived soon after appetizer and was huge. Rice and beans were standard fare and the asada burrito smothered in green chili w/ onion, lettuce and tomato garnish made the difference. Team service made for very quick and clean experience. All staff including kitchen were practicing CovID protocols. Building atmosphere was somewhat spartan w/ a measurable db level background noise. Tile floor and no ceiling suppression adds to the echoes. Still coming back for the breakfast and highly recommend for travelers downtown. read more

We just drove into town (from Dallas) and we were looking for a good New Mexican restaurant. We drove around downtown, then we're headed back towards some that we spotted when I saw Monroe's. The parking was full, so I figured that it must be good. We were not disappointed - the food was awesome and the service on point. Just what two road weary travelers needed! We have great Mexican food in California, but now we have a great New Mexican restaurant as well! Kudos to the staff! read more

A gem of a local family-style restaurant! The owner came out to greet me when I arrived, servers were pleasant and helpful, and the food was excellent! The chili relleno may have been the best I've ever had - a perfect balance of cheese and chili. The sopapilla was light and delicate and the flan was a perfect eggy custard. Don't miss the caramel milkshake, made with soft serve ice cream. Monroe's is an easy 10 minute walk from the NM Museum of Natural History or the Albuquerque Museum, as well as the old town. It's a pleasant stroll through mostly residential streets and a local park. read more

Thank you yelpers for the fabulous recommendations! Monroes lived up to all the goodness! What a great treat at the end of a long drive from Houston. We were very pleased with the Carne adovado tacos & stuffed relleno. Completely yummy! Be sure to try both sauces, red and green! Delicious! Kid friendly. Mine loved the fajitas and cheese enchiladas. We may swing back through here on our way home! The service was great and everyone was attentive and friendly y'all! read more

I would've rated y'all 5 however, this is my second time coming here. The first time the service and food was outstanding! I even wanted to steal the staff to come work for me. We wanted to support local so we decided to come here. There was no such thing as service here. My dad went without coffee and I had to give him my soda so he could have something to drink. Nobody checked on us. I will not be dining in here again but will get the food to-go. Times are difficult right now especially for local business. read more

Great food and service when we stayed over night. The people working there were very friendly and wasn't rude , we appreciate it read more

This has been our favorite New Mexican diner since living here the last 3 years. The staff has always been wonderful and seem to be happy working there. Very relaxed and very efficient service. One reason it has been a favorite is that the salsa isn't too spicy. We're from the Midwest and can't handle the heat of some other places. Although, we went last night for the first time in awhile and while the service was still superb, the salsa was a bit spicy (but at least not inedible), and the chips were a little off. Not sure how to describe them, but burnt maybe? And the servings were smaller than I remember. However, we will still leave with fond memories. I always got the chicken enchilada platter with red & green chile. (Update) I heard back from the manager and he was very polite and said he'd be checking into the chips and salsa. read more

This place was horrible! We were traveling through New Mexico on vacation and our hotel recommended this place to us. Food was cold, beans tasted like they were from a can, rice was packaged of some sort, not home made. I ordered the green enchilada, looks like they rolled up a corn tortilla with cheese then poured a can of green chilies over it! Nasty! read more

Ok... maybe I'm spoiled being from Texas but this was not a good dining experience. The chips were store bought, the queso was thick and goopy. I had fajitas and was so disappointed. The meat was so tiny and skinny and DRY. There were no onions. And the platter didn't even sizzle. The tortillas also store bought and too huge. The guacamole had no flavor and even the sour cream was gritty. The beans were the best part and they were just ok, after I applied a generous dash of salt. Asked my husband how his enchiladas were and he said "horrible but I was hungry" The decor was drab and so outdated. The service was fine but lack luster. It was messy and the bathroom had no toilet paper. We left hungry and spent $50. Will not be back. I think next time we will make the trip to Sanchez Taco Truck in Bernalillo for the same amount of money and bomb food. Sorry not sorry. read more

Very nice clean food, I got takeout for my hotel room while visiting Albuquerque. The gentleman on the phone was super helpful and friendly explaining "new Mexican" and making sure to fit my dietary restrictions. Everything you are looking for in a Mexican food restaurant. Clean, lively atmosphere. Fantastic waitstaff... Very friendly and helpful... Glasses never hit empty. Chips and salsa were fresh and just right. Chile relleno was best I've had in long long time. Rice and beans, perfect. Green Chile sauce, and I'm picky, was delicious though not very spicy hot. Ambiance is more café and less rustic. Breakfast all day. I will be back!!! read more
