Walked in to ask about service on the Ford 10-Speed Auto Transmission (10R80) and the guy tells me what don't work on those! I know these trans have issues with shuddering, etc. but the guy was less than professional and lacked service skills. GO SOME PLACE ELSE. read more

Top Notch Professionals! I brought in a small cargo van to get a 2nd opinion because the previous shop said I needed a new transmission. These professionals did a proper diagnostic test and determined that rats had chewed through some wires which caused multiple sensors to react. They repaired them and saved me thousands. I will only bring my vehicles to Monroe's and I'll also be your biggest advertiser. Thank you again read more

They always do a good job on my 2017 Super Duty tranny work. Honest and good pricing. Usually book work within a couple days or so.

We had needed a diagnosis for a front end issue on our 2011 Mazda CX9. Our regular mechanic and 2 other transmission shops were reluctant to work on it. Rich, at Monroe's was more than willing to work on it with no hesitation. He had it diagnosed and ordered the needed parts within 48 hours. 2days later I had our car back with guaranteed repairs and reasonable repair cost. Overall A plus experience. read more

had my transmission serviced there and was very pleased. now i'm trying to get at least 85 characters

I just want to put out a big shout out to Monroe Transmission in Newcastle, CA. While none of want to hear about a transmission issue, I am so very happy that we took our Ford to them for a new Transfer Case. Clean and organized shop, great staff and a special Thank You to Tim for his Honesty and Integrity. They came in under the promised time and under the original estimate. Happy for both!! No wonder they have been in business for over 60 years!! Happy to recommend Monroe Transmission to anyone looking. Michael and Lisa Parsons Meadow Vista, CA read more

Rich and the team at Monroe transmission were so respectful and educational! When I thought there was something wrong with my transmission, I knew to call Rich. I was on a road trip at the time, and he advised me on what to do to ensure I safely made it home. When I got back, I brought my car in. Rich quickly determined that the problem wasn't my transmission, but that my engine was mis-firing. He had already called a local auto shop and discussed my case with them. He let me know what he thought it was and referred me to a trusted shop to take care of it. Rich went above and beyond to figure out what was going on and didn't charge me a dime to do it. If, in the future, I do have transmission issues, I know I will bring my car to Rich. They may not be the cheapest, but they are straight forward, will not take advantage of you and do excellent work. Thanks Monroe Transmission! read more

I live about 25 minutes away and pass several transmission shops on my way to get here but I do because they've always given me and my family a fair shake on prices and honesty. I really wouldn't go anywhere else. read more

Very blessed to have found this transmission shop six or seven years ago. My family now takes all of our cars, trucks, and Jeep to them. We have transmission services done, differential services, and even a complete front differential replacement. Honesty, integrity, communication, and promptness come to mind when I think of these folks. John and Rich are the two nicest service writers you can work with and Monroe is lucky to have these two. I highly recommend this business, refer friends often, and will continue to patronize them for years to come. I wish all service businesses were this great. read more

They didn't want to sell me a remanufactured transmission. Why?? Because I told them I wanted to wait while they looked at my car to see what It needed. They I told them I could take a Uber to Auburn and hang out for the day. Then told them I was living in Folsom so they gave me two transmissions places down the hill. Then I called them back and told them my Brother would pick me up. And I wasn't going to be living in Folsom by the time they could get to it. And they quoted a price June 30th not in May which is what Tim thought he quoted me when I called on Friday. So then it comes out that the owner didn't want to do business with me. Why? Tim would not tell me. Was it because I asked the other guy what if they go over their estimate of cost and their customer doesn't have the money? I wasn't making the comment as if I would not have the money. But just out of principle. This establishment is missing out on perhaps $6,000 plus of sales because they misinterpreted my comment. read more

They came highly recommended by couple of my friends and they were absolutely right. No one wants to hear thier transmission is toast but it is what it is and if you got to spend the money to get it fixed Monroe's is place to go. I had it towed via AAA to the shop and as soon as I was able to authorize the repairs they had it done in two days. Theh employ an on site transmission builder who obviously knows what he's doing and my 99 Expedition has never run better. Everyone I had contact with were professional and courteous, no attitudes and no arrogance. And the best part is they came in under the estimate yes I said under the estimate and I can't recall a repair facility anytime ever coming in cheaper than what they said it was going to be. I'll say it again no one wants to hear that thier transmission is toast so if you got to spend the money I can't recommend a better place than Monroe transmission . read more

Five stars for Monroe Transmission - and six stars for Rich the owner. My transmission malfunctioned on the way up to Lake Tahoe and I was stranded in Newcastle, which is about 200mi from where I live. I was fortunate enough to have AAA tow my car to Monroe Transmission. Despite being slammed before Labor Day weekend, Rich was gracious enough to take a look at my transmission and help diagnosis the issue. Since I live in the Bay Area I decided to tow my car home and have the transmission repaired locally. Despite not having the actual repair done at Monroe, Rich followed up by sending all the documentation to my Nissan dealership and made sure I well informed / equipped to handle the repair locally. So far working with my local Nissan dealership has been an absolute nightmare and they are continuing to rip me off with service charges. I WISH I LEFT MY CAR AT MONROE! In summary, the customer service and support I received at Monroe Transmission was second to none and I would highly recommend them to anyone. A big thank you to Rich for all of your help. Next time I am in the area I will be sure to stop by! read more

John and his Team were very professional and respectful. My transmission was slipping and I checked YELP reviews and found Monroe Transmission in nearby Newcastle. I called and spoke to John and instead of just having me bring it in so he could charge me, he asked me to check my transmission fluid level. "A lot of times that's the problem". He was right, it was low and I also noticed it was dirty so I thought it was due for a service. John serviced it at a good price and my problem was solved. He could have charged me for a new transmission but he didn't. Hard to find trustworthy mechanics but I'm happy to say John is one of those I trust. read more

Exceeded my expectations!! Called Rich/John and they said to bring it in. Dwayne took me for a test ride, he confirmed the problem and we proceeded to have the work done. I wasn't in a rush, and I asked them to take their time. I have to say, in today's world, trust is earned. Dwayne and his staff were friendly, courteous, helpful and have earned my trust in their product. Very professional, and highly recommended. They even took care of an electrical problem which occured while I drove to Newcastle on my initial visit. My alternator died and after they rebuilt my transmission, they tested, and replaced the alternator. Couldn't ask for a better solution to my problems. Thank you all.... read more

I took my 04 Dodge Ram 2500 there a couple months ago I have been waiting to write this review to see if the transmission rebuild went smooth and it did they know what they are doing and the customer service is great. I actually live up the street from Jrs transmission but when I saw the reviews for this place I had to go. No regrets at all. read more

These guys are the BEST! We have brought several cars here over the years and have always received excellent, honest service. Most recently, my car was making a horrrible random intermittent noise underneath and i thought it was coming apart- that bad! They drove it, put it on the rack and examined everything. They found a fairly good sized rock on top the skid plates which must have been bouncing around making the terrible sound. Even though my car is 19 years old, they said my differential, U joints and the rest of the drive train were in good shape. "No charge!" And safe to drive. The sound, of course, is gone and my car is back on the road. Another positive experience at Monroe Transmissions. So glad they are here. I recommend them to anyone :) read more

Fabulous staff. Explained services well and reasonable prices. Only got services I needed and no attempt to sell more than what I really needed. read more

I LOVE Monroe Transmission!! My first experience was when they serviced mine and my husband's transmission. Rich educated myself and my husband about servicing our transmission and what to expect . Gratefully we didn't have to replace the transmissions but the servicing was a terrifc deal and our cars are running great. I would RECOMMEND to EVERYBODY to regularly have their transmission serviced!!' My second experience was when my engine light kept coming on. It had nothing to do with the transmission (EVAD problem?) but each and every time I brought it in they checked it for me at no charge!! I am grateful to be able to bring my car to a company that has honest, hard working individuals!! It is such a relief to have people you can trust. Their patience and kindness has made me a life time fan!!! read more

They serviced my Maxima's auto transmission. I had a problem almost 5 months and several miles later, they fixed it as warranty. The car has run perfect since then. I found the pricing reasonable. read more

Monroe transmission is amazing. My girlfriend's Toyota 2wd Highlander blew a transmission with 180k miles on it. We brought it here, they put it on the rack, and took out the transmission. It was fried. Unfortunately, the car's high mileage and low bluebook value didn't justify the costs of a rebuild. So we tried to find a used transmission. For probably a week they kept her car on the rack as we tried to find a used transmission to swap it out with. But we couldn't find one that fit. So we ultimately sold the Highlander "as is" for a parts car. But the guys at Monroe Transmission were there every step of the way, patiently showing us why each transmission that a wrecking yard sold us didn't fit, and what we had to look for. If the car were newer, it would have been worth getting the existing transmission rebuilt. And, based on the way they treated us, the way the shop is immaculately organized, and the other reviews here on Yelp - I know they would have done a great job. One other thing I want to add. There is a 1-star review written by a "Lisa J. She wrote the review in 2010, and is describing an experience she had 10-12 years prior to that (making it around 1998). Based on our experience with Monroe, I can't even fathom how she can write what she did. Monroe's price for the removal of the transmission was very fair, they were unbelievably accommodating (imagine any other shop keeping your car on a hoist for a week and not badgering you with a "when are you going to do something with it?"), and professional. Anyway, take Lisa J's 1-star rating with a grain of salt and look at all the other 5-star ratings. These guys deserve it. They're that good. read more

Took my Subaru WRXSTI in for installation of a new clutch. Got I back within a decent amount of time and my Subaru drives like new again. I have had 3 transmissions rebuilt by Monroe and was TOTALLY PLEASED each time. In one instance, they missed a cracked part, but IMMEDIATELY and WILLINGLY did the job over, apologizing for my inconvenience. They got me right in, did a free look over estimate and was honest about cost. No surprise phone calls after with more stuff wrong that didn't make sense. Saved me from buying a new vehicle and making mine last longer at a great price. Thank you and I'll be a forever customer now and recommend to friends. It's hard to trust any car people there days and I finally found a place I can. Hope they never change staff or ownership so it stays this way :) read more

I was having issues with my old Jeep. It's pushing 20 years and I expected the worst. After a 15 minute inspection the tech came back in and said "good news, it was just a fuse under the hood." I asked "How much do I owe you then?" His reply was no charge. It's not often you find somebody just willing to do a quick fix and expect nothing. Was there this week....They guys at Monroe and the best! I had a leak, they did a service and that seemed to fix it.. it leaked again, they took care of it and stopped the leak at no charge. After I picked it up the check engine light came on, I brought it back.. they diagnosed and fixed the problem (ended up being a loose wire) NO CHARGE .. most places would have charged me. They are friendly, honest, reasonable and I would also recommend them to anyone. By the way.. why would anyone write a review on a place 12 years after the fact??? read more

Hands down, one of the best transmission shops I have ever dealt with. If there is a problem, they know how to fix it, are very fair and reasonable and won't rip you off. I've had three different transmissions on different cars/trucks worked on by them and they have done spectacular work. I do most of my own work (brakes, engines, etc but NOT transmissions!) in my own garage so I know what I'm talking about. Rich and his guys are the best. read more

Took my truck in after it wouldn't shift into 3rd while towing. They were very full when I dropped my truck off, I told them I had to drive to the coast with a trailer in a few days. Rich got my truck looked at, diagnosed and explained the error codes my truck was giving. After a very reasonable estimate I had them do the minor repairs. I got my truck back in time and took it to the coast, it ran perfect, no issues shifting gears all they way up and down Hwy 20, very pleased with the service Monroe Transmission provided me. Monroe transmission is the best, I have a 2006 dodge diesel 4x4 and the trans was slipping. I took it to Monroe expecting a quote for a new trans! While driving my Jeep recently, it suddenly lost it's drive and went into safe mode. I pulled in to Jiffy Lube in Roseville where the guys took a look and recommended the dealership or John's garage. Since I did not want inflated pricing at the dealership, I called and spoke with John's garage and they recommend Monroe Transmission since it was transmission related. I called and spoke to Rick followed by a call to AAA to tow the car. Imagine my surprise when the driver arrived the guy told me I could not go wrong with Monroe. I must say after getting my Jeep back today, there's no question in my mind that they will be the only place I will take our cars to in the future. Excellent customer service, follow through, delivery and pricing. When I walked in they brought the part out to show me what had failed and explained everything they did and said to call if I had any questions or issues. The shop was clean, easy to find and the guys where clean and professional at the front desk. Thanks Monroe you have a customer for life! read more

This is a great place. I took my car to a "supposed great place for high performance tranny installs and repairs" (2x) and still had tranny issues. They diagnosed the problem in about 4 hours and had the new parts the next day. Very honest people! Good job! Fare price! read more
