Rich and the team at Monroe transmission were so respectful and educational! When I thought there was something wrong with my transmission, I knew to call Rich. I was on a road trip at the time, and he advised me on what to do to ensure I safely made it home. When I got back, I brought my car in. Rich quickly determined that the problem wasn't my transmission, but that my engine was mis-firing. He had already called a local auto shop and discussed my case with them. He let me know what he thought it was and referred me to a trusted shop to take care of it. Rich went above and beyond to figure out what was going on and didn't charge me a dime to do it. If, in the future, I do have transmission issues, I know I will bring my car to Rich. They didn't want to sell me a remanufactured transmission. Why?? Because I told them I wanted to wait while they looked at my car to see what It needed. They I told them I could take a Uber to Auburn and hang out for the day. Then told them I was living in Folsom so they gave me two transmissions places down the hill. Then I called them back and told them my Brother would pick me up. And I wasn't going to be living in Folsom by the time they could get to it. And they quoted a price June 30th not in May which is what Tim thought he quoted me when I called on Friday. So then it comes out that the owner didn't want to do business with me. Why? Tim would not tell me. Was it because I asked the other guy what if they go over their estimate of cost and their customer doesn't have the money? I wasn't making the comment as if I would not have the money. But just out of principle. This establishment is missing out on perhaps $6,000 plus of sales because they misinterpreted my comment. read more

They came highly recommended by couple of my friends and they were absolutely right. No one wants to hear thier transmission is toast but it is what it is and if you got to spend the money to get it fixed Monroe's is place to go. I had it towed via AAA to the shop and as soon as I was able to authorize the repairs they had it done in two days. Theh employ an on site transmission builder who obviously knows what he's doing and my 99 Expedition has never run better. Everyone I had contact with were professional and courteous, no attitudes and no arrogance. And the best part is they came in under the estimate yes I said under the estimate and I can't recall a repair facility anytime ever coming in cheaper than what they said it was going to be. John and his Team were very professional and respectful. My transmission was slipping and I checked YELP reviews and found Monroe Transmission in nearby Newcastle. I called and spoke to John and instead of just having me bring it in so he could charge me, he asked me to check my transmission fluid level. "A lot of times that's the problem". He was right, it was low and I also noticed it was dirty so I thought it was due for a service. John serviced it at a good price and my problem was solved. He could have charged me for a new transmission but he didn't. Hard to find trustworthy mechanics but I'm happy to say John is one of those I trust. read more

Exceeded my expectations!! Called Rich/John and they said to bring it in. Dwayne took me for a test ride, he confirmed the problem and we proceeded to have the work done. I wasn't in a rush, and I asked them to take their time. I have to say, in today's world, trust is earned. Dwayne and his staff were friendly, courteous, helpful and have earned my trust in their product. Very professional, and highly recommended. They even took care of an electrical problem which occured while I drove to Newcastle on my initial visit. Five stars for Monroe Transmission - and six stars for Rich the owner. My transmission malfunctioned on the way up to Lake Tahoe and I was stranded in Newcastle, which is about 200mi from where I live. I was fortunate enough to have AAA tow my car to Monroe Transmission. Despite being slammed before Labor Day weekend, Rich was gracious enough to take a look at my transmission and help diagnosis the issue. Since I live in the Bay Area I decided to tow my car home and have the transmission repaired locally. Despite not having the actual repair done at Monroe, Rich followed up by sending all the documentation to my Nissan dealership and made sure I well informed / equipped to handle the repair locally. So far working with my local Nissan dealership has been an absolute nightmare and they are continuing to rip me off with service charges. I WISH I LEFT MY CAR AT MONROE! In summary, the customer service and support I received at Monroe Transmission was second to none and I would highly recommend them to anyone. A big thank you to Rich for all of your help. These guys are the BEST! We have brought several cars here over the years and have always received excellent, honest service. Most recently, my car was making a horrrible random intermittent noise underneath and i thought it was coming apart- that bad! They drove it, put it on the rack and examined everything. They found a fairly good sized rock on top the skid plates which must have been bouncing around making the terrible sound. Even though my car is 19 years old, they said my differential, U joints and the rest of the drive train were in good shape. "No charge!" And safe to drive. The sound, of course, is gone and my car is back on the road. Another positive experience at Monroe Transmissions. So glad they are here. I recommend them to anyone :) read more

Took my Subaru WRXSTI in for installation of a new clutch. Got I back within a decent amount of time and my Subaru drives like new again. Had a clutch installed last year at another shop and their the reason I had to go to Monroe this year to do it twice. Will never go anywhere else for clutch and transmission work. I LOVE Monroe Transmission!! My first experience was when they serviced mine and my husband's transmission. Rich educated myself and my husband about servicing our transmission and what to expect . Gratefully we didn't have to replace the transmissions but the servicing was a terrifc deal and our cars are running great. I would RECOMMEND to EVERYBODY to regularly have their transmission serviced!!' My second experience was when my engine light kept coming on. It had nothing to do with the transmission (EVAD problem?) but each and every time I brought it in they checked it for me at no charge!! Monroe transmission is amazing. My girlfriend's Toyota 2wd Highlander blew a transmission with 180k miles on it. We brought it here, they put it on the rack, and took out the transmission. It was fried. Unfortunately, the car's high mileage and low bluebook value didn't justify the costs of a rebuild. So we tried to find a used transmission. For probably a week they kept her car on the rack as we tried to find a used transmission to swap it out with. But we couldn't find one that fit. So we ultimately sold the Highlander "as is" for a parts car. But the guys at Monroe Transmission were there every step of the way, patiently showing us why each transmission that a wrecking yard sold us didn't fit, and what we had to look for. If the car were newer, it would have been worth getting the existing transmission rebuilt. And, based on the way they treated us, the way the shop is immaculately organized, and the other reviews here on Yelp - I know they would have done a great job. One other thing I want to add. There is a 1-star review written by a "Lisa J. She wrote the review in 2010, and is describing an experience she had 10-12 years prior to that (making it around 1998). Based on our experience with Monroe, I can't even fathom how she can write what she did. Monroe's price for the removal of the transmission was very fair, they were unbelievably accommodating (imagine any other shop keeping your car on a hoist for a week and not badgering you with a "when are you going to do something with it?"), and professional. Anyway, take Lisa J's 1-star rating with a grain of salt and look at all the other 5-star ratings. These guys deserve it. They're that good. read more

Was there this week....They guys at Monroe and the best! I had a leak, they did a service and that seemed to fix it.. it leaked again, they took care of it and stopped the leak at no charge. After I picked it up the check engine light came on, I brought it back.. they diagnosed and fixed the problem (ended up being a loose wire) NO CHARGE .. most places would have charged me. Hands down, one of the best transmission shops I have ever dealt with. If there is a problem, they know how to fix it, are very fair and reasonable and won't rip you off. I've had three different transmissions on different cars/trucks worked on by them and they have done spectacular work. Took my truck in after it wouldn't shift into 3rd while towing. They were very full when I dropped my truck off, I told them I had to drive to the coast with a trailer in a few days. Rich got my truck looked at, diagnosed and explained the error codes my truck was giving. After a very reasonable estimate I had them do the minor repairs. I got my truck back in time and took it to the coast, it ran perfect, no issues shifting gears all they way up and down Hwy 20, very pleased with the service Monroe Transmission provided me. While driving my Jeep recently, it suddenly lost it's drive and went into safe mode. I pulled in to Jiffy Lube in Roseville where the guys took a look and recommended the dealership or John's garage. Since I did not want inflated pricing at the dealership, I called and spoke with John's garage and they recommend Monroe Transmission since it was transmission related. I called and spoke to Rick followed by a call to AAA to tow the car. Imagine my surprise when the driver arrived the guy told me I could not go wrong with Monroe. I must say after getting my Jeep back today, there's no question in my mind that they will be the only place I will take our cars to in the future. This is a great place. I took my car to a "supposed great place for high performance tranny installs and repairs" (2x) and still had tranny issues. Then I remembered that Monroe in Newcastle had done a great job on my family car. So I took my high performance car to them.
