We had a check engine light go on in September. He squeezed us in for a diagnosis in late October (yes, he's that backed-up with appointments). He did a thorough check of the car (we felt it was running a bit sluggish), and found a big issue with cylinder exhaust valves, requiring a costly engine repair. He gave me an estimate to do the repair. I asked about a couple of used Subaru cars he had on the lot, and he gave his opinions and costs. I also asked about 'what if it were his car' scenario, and he said he'd repair it, since he knows our car model year is a good one. Given all that information, we decided to repair our car, hoping that he wouldn't discover anything else serious once he took the engine apart. We scheduled for the beginning of January for two weeks. Happily, he did not find anything else after examining the engine and the rest of the car. He was able to get a part custom made, and he completed the job sooner than expected (and at a lower cost than the original estimate). He also gave us a recommendation for the next set of tires (which he advised we'll need sooner rather than later). Our car is running noticeably better (no sluggishness). If only there were more mechanics with the integrity and knowledge that Steve has.

I dropped the vehicle off at 8:45 AM and was called for pickup before noon. As I walked up to my vehicle at the shop, I immediately noticed visible bugs and contamination still left on the exterior after the ceramic coating service, water spots on surfaces, and multiple interior areas that were still dirty or missed entirely. I took photos immediately after pickup to document everything clearly. When I contacted the shop privately first and sent the photos, I was later told the $150 "interior detail" only included a wipe-down, vacuum, and mat wash. In my opinion, that is more of a basic cleaning service than what most customers would reasonably expect from an interior detailing package at that price point. Even for a simple wipe-down and vacuum service, there was still visible dust and debris left in areas like the trunk mat. I've had professional detailing and ceramic coating work done before, so I understand what proper prep work and finish quality should generally look like. This experience did not meet those expectations. What disappointed me most was the response afterward. Instead of professionally addressing the concerns shown in the photos, Bryan T. (Business Owner) called me "A PROBLEM" for speaking up about the quality of the work. If the work had been done properly from the beginning, there would not have been a problem to discuss in the first place. I never demanded a full refund or anything unreasonable. I simply wanted the concerns acknowledged and handled professionally. The shop later refunded $100 for the interior concerns, but the conversation eventually became personal and unprofessional, including remarks attacking my disability status that had absolutely nothing to do with the service itself.

Inside is a tight squeeze, but there are multiple seats available. I was quoted an hour and a half. I decided to walk to grandma's house while I waited for Speedee Oil to call. After 2 1/2 hours, I was starting to wonder why I was still waiting. So I headed back over to Speedee Oil.. on my long journey of 5 minutes. When I spoke to the woman behind the counter, it turns out they put my phone number in wrong. Checking out did take about 15 long minutes. They have a new system they were still trying to figure out. They were not able to print me a receipt, but they emailed it to me, so that works. Everyone here was nice, and I even ran into a few people from around town that I know. Although I waited, I was not in a rush that day, so it was not a big deal. So Speedee Oil wasn't Speedee today, but their customer service today and my past experience here is enough to keep me coming back. 2 weeks later, my check oil light came back on. I called the shop and spoke with Sarah, who told me to stop back by at my convenience. It only took her 2 minutes to see that the mechanics forgot to reset my vehicles milage. She fixed that for me and I was on my way.

I have been taking my cars to Monroe for years (since before the move to Newcastle) I have always found the shop to be friendly and very trustworthy. These guys are probably not the cheapest shop in town, but you do get what you pay fore. I can attest to the fact that they always stand by their work. In one case I took a transmission repair to Monroe, when the transmission was several hundred miles out of warranty, and it was still treated as a "warranty repair" because -- as the owner stated -- "That should not have failed". This is the only AAA approved transmission shop in the area that I am aware of, and they are the only shop that will get my business. read more

I needed a second opinion, so I went to auto analytx. They did a free inspection. I asked about the most imminent service/important part that has to be fixed. Nothing was said about the engine trouble. They said the water pump is leaking that needs attention. A pressure test had to be done. I emailed thinking it would be repaired with that $263.
