And our habit to eating outside is to order more food than one meal so we can extend our joy to next day as well. We ordered two chicken boxes and two snacks, one greens. However, the waitress warned us that we ordered too much. I told her that we can take out the leftovers. She said that is not environment friendly behavior. She educated us that we should bring our own utensils next time to the restaurant in case we want to take out. We were stuck at that time and no idea to react to her "education". She made us feel bad about ourselves. And this requirement from her is not proper at all as the server. We have never met such service in any other restaurant before. We feel extremely disappointed and confused during the whole dining experience there. We speak Mandarin and she sensed us from Mainland China. I feel her attitude to other tables was really good when the customers are from Taiwan or Native American people. However, we are afraid to talk to her to even add a small soup. So we spoke English after her service. We talked to another waitress who can speak English and didn't give us any burden when we added new things or ask for one takeout box. This is our third time to be treated like this in this restaurant by criticized over ordering for one meal. We will hardly come back to this place for another time by the bad service and suspicious discrimination on mainland Chinese people. read more

3 stars for the food, 4 for the service! The workers here are attentive and nice; better than a lot of other similar establishments. They're quick to help you order, give you space when you need it, and you can pay for your food right at the table with their wireless card reader (why don't more places do that, à la European style?) Food is ok. I had their popcorn chicken which tasted a bit stale compared to a fresh, crispy chicken I was expecting, and their minced pork rice bowl is small but delicious. Honey green tea is nothing special. I think I prefer Looking for Chai over MonGa. Overall, I would stop by here if LFC was closed and I happened to be going to Asian Family Mart. Delicious! I don't know why this restaurant doesn't have more stars. Each dish was done with care and staff had excellent service. Authentic Taiwanese style dishes (they even have stinky tofu!). So glad we found this gem. The restaurant is very clean and spacious, adhering to Covid guidelines they spaced all tables far apart from one another. Hand sanitizers were present upon entering and they checked all out temperatures before letting us dine in. Would definitely come back here again! Most legit Taiwanese cafe and xiao chi north of the Bay Area spots I usually wait to go to. Delicious, authentic classics, high quality tea (you can see the tea station above the cash reg with all the canisters of tea leaves), and friendly service. Clean, modern interior with lovely black and white photo wall that reminded me of a family living room (if your relatives had a good eye for photography and arrangement skills). We ordered the C2 combo of Taiwanese beef noodle soup (you can customize soup spice level) with side dishes, the braised pork trotters with rice and pickles, and A-choy, and the honey green tea. Our server helpfully made suggestions, and brought an extra small bowl so we could share the noodles. All super delicious -- the beef in the noodle soup was tender and melted in my mouth; the braised pork rice dish was exactly the right balance of fatty and lean meat; and the vegetables were such a standout. Given the current pandemic situation, things were quiet in the restaurant - observed more takeout orders while we ate - so easy to maintain social distance. Now one of my favorite places for Taiwanese food in Bellevue! I went to MonGa with three other people on a Sunday afternoon and was immediately seated. The atmosphere of the space was very open and bright, and we were greeted with a warm smile upon stepping inside. The workers were all so friendly and made the restaurant feel comfortable. Very home-like feel! Regarding food, I ordered the Beef Noodle Soup (原味牛肉麵), and the others at my table ordered a Taiwanese Bun (掛包) and lurou rice (滷肉飯). My noodles were very flavorful, and you are able to customize the spiciness from 1-5. The broth was flavorful, and the noodles were cooked well! Not bad for around $10. The other dishes were large portions for their prices, and they were quite flavorful! There aren't many places for Taiwanese food in Bellevue, so I did like coming here. Food was okay, service was bad. Not busy but inattentive service. We usually share food as a family with kids and sometimes ask for an extra bowl, spoon, or napkins. If it was the owner lady, she would show an annoyed face and grudgingly do it with less to show us her silent protest. I.e. we asks for 3 spoons, she gives us 1. We asks for 2 bowls (for kids to share noodle soup) and she would scan our tables and quipped "they can't use plates?", I was like for, "for noodle soup"? I still tip her more she deserves to help her out anyway, not knowing what ppl are going thru. hope she comes out of it eventually and can do better service next time for the next customers. We've waited forever as it seems and didn't notice they open April 1st. Had a little bit of higher expectations. My last meal here was at least 8 months ago before they closed for the renovation. Pork stew with egg and rice for $8. Tastes great and good portion, thought great value. Today, same dish with small side of vegetables is almost double at $14. It's still good but not worth it with all the lunch options in the area. Bean noodle soup, could not recommend. Broth lack flavor, barely any meat. Description says pork but looks to be pork intestines which I'm not Asian enough to like. We've been here for dinner a few times. The food is always delicious and price is fair. The only reason I gave 2 star review is because of one of the waitress. My wife can't drink tap water and we ordered hot boiling water for her. The waitress with dark red hair gave her warm tap water. We told her that's not boiling water and she got really upset. She gave us bad attitude all night. Tossing our plates on the table and keeps staring at us. My wife had a really bad stomach that night after drinking the tab water. My wife and I always enjoy the noodle soup at MonGa. Our favorite is the chicken drumstick noodle soup. It's so good! The skin on the chicken is nice and crispy and meat is tender and delicious. - slow service at soft "reopening"- Hubby and I came here on Friday evening, waited for about 10-20 min to be seated. Note that we got seated slightly earlier since there weren't many groups of two ahead of us. We ordered our usual chicken drumstick noodle and chicken chop(was told popcorn chicken is sold out), and appetizer(seaweed, cucumber, pig ear). We also ordered tieguanying milk tea. The milk tea came on time, but we waited roughly 40 min for food. The table next to us came after us, but got their food before us. Not to mention we ordered similar stuff. The taste of food is the same as before, the sauce that should come with chicken drumstick didn't come tho. The cucumber appetizer was a bit too sweet for my liking as well. Overall the food is good. Service is really slow and it looks like everyone was either waiting for a table or their food. They just reopened, and whoever subscribed to their newsletter received a 10% discount until April 11th or something, so I recommend coming after that date. A large portion of the menu features soups, such as the traditional Taiwanese Beef Noodle soup and others. The service here is friendly and pretty quick. There is a deal in the 2016 Entertainment Coupon Book for a 'buy one, get one' (with a max of $9). **TIP: Except for the appetizers, the menu items are not intended to be shared. This was pretty surprising as most Chinese restaurants offer family-style. The food tastes great and the prices are reasonable. We ordered four dishes: Taiwanese Beef Noodle Soup ($10), Chicken Drumstick Noodle Soup ($11.5), Chicken Steak plate ($9) & Fried Pork Chop plate ($10). CONCERN: As an appetizer, we ordered the Wontons in Spicy Oil. Unfortunately, this came in a thick spicy peanut sauce, which completely overpowered the flavor of the wontons. They were completely drenched in the sauce and I couldn't eat more than one. We didn't question the dish, but left wondering if the sauce mix-up was a mistake. However, we really enjoyed our entrees. The Chicken Steak and Pork Chop were pounded thin and covered with a light crispy crust. The chicken was lean and not dry at all. I loved the breading, which was slightly sweet with a seasoning of salt and pepper. Both the chicken and pork came with a small serving of steamed veggies, half a hard-boiled egg and a bowl of rice topped with minced pork sauce (which was delicious!). It was a filling meal and I would definitely recommend. The Chicken Drumstick Noodle soup turned out to be huge. The section of chicken was substantial....much more than just the drumstick (see photo). This was also quite lean with a perfect browning on the skin. The ambiance was great and the staff was really professional and nice. The food came out pretty quickly as well, but it was only OK. We got the pork belly, stinky tofu, and beef noodle soup. The portions were reasonable, but the pork belly, while the fat was fully rendered, had pretty tough meat. The stinky tofu wasn't quite stinky enough for me, but the pickled items that it came with were a perfect combination. It was unclear reading on the menu whether or not vegetables were included in some of the dishes and it was a nice surprise to find that it was. I would prefer a "standard" Taiwanese combo plate that has the lu rou rice, the pickled vegetables, the regular vegetables, the rice, and the protein. I don't like trying to mix and match or add-on what I'd want or not be sure if it came with my order. I have been here three times so far. The food is not bad in general. I have ordered their Braised Pork over Rice with some side dishes, Fried Chicken Steak with Rice, and Rice noodle. All of them were OK. Once I went with a friend, who ordered their Beef Noodle with soup. My friend asked for 5 out of 5 spicy scale, and got a bowl of spices. I tried a bite, and couldn't tell the flavor. I couldn't tell what soup it was, but spices. Honestly, I think even if a customer asks for a very spicy scale they should still keep the original flavor. Tasting only spices was not what we had expected. Therefore, I would warn you if you are going to order the same thing with high spicy scale. Anything lower than 3 out of 5 spicy scale is probably safer. Other than food, the customer service was good. Everyone there was friendly and courteous. I am not a super fan, but probably will go back again. read more

Wanted to try a new place for dinner and saw this place during our last trip to Swish Swish. We told ourselves we would back to try it. We were feeling Taiwanese food and shaved ice dessert, but didn't want to have to go to Chinatown for Hardwok Café. Was initially drawn to this place for all the rave reviews (and pictures) of dessert. SHAVED ICE and Mochi Rice Balls... a MUST try. But I'll get to that eventually. For dinner we ordered from the combo menu, (first page on the menu, can't miss it). After much deliberation we decided on C2 - Zeitgeist Combo (Beef Noodle Soup) and C3 - Zen Combo (Yang-Chun Noodle Soup). Each combo came with 2 appetizers so we choose the following: Braised Bamboo Shoots (Spicy), Pickled Cucumbers, Braised Pig Ear (Spicy), and Braised Tofu. Because we were so indecisive the lady who waited on us threw in an extra appetizer - Kimchi (spicy). We also ordered a Pork Burger to start everything off, so long story short we had A LOT of food. Pork Burger (Snack Section) - Pork Belly was pretty fatty (but that is to be expected), melt in your mouth, all placed on a steamed white bun with peanut sauce. Braised Pig Ear - Spicy, but I am a wuss when it comes to spicy, a must try for those who are feeling adventurous. Braised Tofu / Bean Curd - one of my favorites, but I am a huge fan of tofu. C2 - Beef Noodle Soup was very flavorful broth, we added one star spiciness for an added kick. Beef was tender, perfect with the noodles and broth. C3 - Yang-Chun Noodle Soup was opposite of the Beef Noodle Soup. Clear, clean tasting broth. Simple noodles and few pieces of vegetable along with Green onions. Very comforting, I enjoyed this dish, especially since the weather was rainy and soup is always good on a cold day. Now on to the good part, DESSERT! As we reached the end of our soup bowls, our tummies were 90% full. We couldn't even finish the appetizers, and had to box them up to go. But we ordered a small shaved ice anyways. For our 3 toppings we picked: Red bean, Glutinous Rice Ball and Flan. The flan is a must have, it was huge and we were able to cut it up and have a bit in every bite. The only downfall was that there was tons of ice. We had to take off some toppings, put them in bowls, mix it up and let the ice melt down a bit. Condensed milk was also added, which is definitely a plus. Overall, really satisfying. Not as good as Din Tai Fung, or Hardwok, but cheaper and excellent if you're not looking to wait!
