How is this place still in business??! It must be the markups on the poor quality products, mixed with the expensive contracts they get for outright poor jobs they do. I gave this business thousands- all regrettable life lessons learned. They lie to you. Sleaze their way into you paying up, with them delivering wrong information and extremely poor work. They even lied they showed up to my house, when cameras show no one in sight for hours. I did pool liner with them: started coming off and they blamed anything they possibly can (water itself, the liner they themselves installed, and, the funniest one, the last installer which was them). When they ask you who did the last work- say a competing business or you forgot, and watch how quickly they point out all the wrong things done even they're the ones that did it. Their warranty is bogus but they're smart about avoiding any actually quality work and follow up. Schedule will keep extending. Dates will keep changing. People will show up for 30-45 min and scam you. They'll make problems much bigger so they can come back and take more money. They don't believe your photos, videos, or what you are seeing in your own home. They always follow their made-up delusions. The people who make the decisions and you give your money mostly to are not the people who do the job, nor do they show up to see anything. You'll find an extremely rude, unprofessional, and liar of a person named Darlene working you through the phone. The mostly behind the curtain guy is Dan- he will talk his 30 years of experience with you to get you to believe, and of course take your money. You will lose your money. You will face more problems in your pool and system than you started with. You will be lied to. You will regret your decision to worth with these slimy people. Go elsewhere. Do it yourself. Order online. Anything but conduct business with this company of liars and deceivers. You work hard, so take it easy and give your money and time to a more deserving business. very bad exp i regretted i contacted them. very unreliable all they want is the money. i signed a contract with them around second week of june they have not done the job till august 15. initially they put the liner but they cover the water outlet with the liner so i have to recall them and waited for another 2 weeks for them to redo the job. what a mess. the money i paid is not worth it. Monarch closed my inground pool last fall and forgot to unplug the pump. My filter ran dry for a couple of days, ultimately burning out the pump and causing an electrical fire. They are screening my calls and will not own up to the mistake. I am out of pocket another $800 this season for a new pump, and $1,200+ for electrical work. The closing also costs $450, and couldn't have included any chemical treatment given the algae present when opening this season. It all starts with the front desk and ends with poor ownership. This company opens from 9 am to 5 PM. Regardless, what the website says or maps. This company seems to be very expensive if you need repairs done at your house on your pool or spa. But very knowledgeable in store on keeping water levels on point. You need to have a little bit of patience when you speak and deal with David in spa dept. read more

People read through this carefully and look at the pictures if you plan on purchasing a pool from Monarch. We went with Monarch pools because like many of the reviews, we found that our salesperson was attentive and friendly but once you sign the contract, that's where the tide turns. We purchased our pool in June of 21, with an installation later in the year- the end of the season which was fine with us. The contractor they used for the excavation was great and highly skilled. The installation guys were also knowledgeable as well; however, they would leave a mess every time they were onsite. I didn't really mind picking up after them though there were times, they would ask me where items were because they misplaced them causing delays with the installation. We purchased our pool in June of 21, with an installation later in the year- the end of the season which was fine with us. The frame of our pool was installed in September of 21 when the weather was fine and sat there until we received a call that Monarch wanted to install the liner on Thanksgiving Day! We specifically questioned at the beginning of the process how Monarch installed pools in the colder weather to which the response was, "we do it all the time. As long as it's not raining or freezing, we can proceed". So on Thanksgiving Day I agree to let Monarch come install the liner which was a huge mistake and waste of time. While trying to prepare dinner, we were having to boil pots of water to fill 5 gallon buckets and bring them out to the pool so the installers could stretch the liner. Had I known I was going to have to carry around 30+ buckets of boiling water out to them, and provide plungers- I would have declined. So, they get the liner in, placed a couple of vacuums that were sucking air our from beneath the liner, placed some tape on the liner and said "when the water gets here, pull the vacuums out. So now it becomes my task to watch the liner, which I did. That evening I went out to check the liner and there were wrinkles through out the shallow end. I reach out to Monarch who directed me to stop filling the pool and cover it. The warranty and installation directions specifically state not to have the water below a certain level, or it will void the warranty- but I figured that's on Monarch. Fast forward to next year, where I was told we would be one of the first people that will be completed come the new year. I call up Monarch in April since I didn't hear anything and could never get anyone to speak to me, or call back. I texted our salesperson and after several attempts, I finally get him to answer the phone. Of course, I was not happy and his response was "it was out of my hands", I have to speak with Darlene (name sound familiar from other posts). After I several attempts, I finally get Darlene on the phone where she proceeds to tell me that there aren't any openings until JUNE or JULY to check back in May. So I check back in May where the reason was now due to the rainy cold weather everything is backed up. There was no rain, and it was in the mid 60's unlike Thanksgiving Day where it was in the low 50's. Frustrated, I decided to uncover the pool and look for myself to see the status of my pool. I cannot express the rage I felt when I saw what I paid over $40,000 for looking they way it did. I called into Monarch and spoke to Darlene who I had to call again maybe 5 times to get her to speak to me. She was condescending and beyond arrogant and told me that the way my pool looks is to be expected. She still didn't budge on coming any earlier, and still did not give me a date for them to return. I am actually handy and capable so I took matters into my own hands and finish the liner installation myself. Folks if you sign a deal with Monarch pay attention to the details and protect yourself! They totally ruined my driveway because they drove onto the yard with the trucks and equipment even though I advised them that the yard was soft. They never put down boards to distribute the weight like professionals do. Monarch's contract indemnifies them from ANY damages to your property. They had me fill the pool with water which I ended up having to drain and start over- at my cost because it's in their contract that they are not responsible for water- even if they made a mistake and it must be redone. NOTE: Filling the pool with water (and Monarch means any amount of water) triggers your last payment so if things go amiss you have nothing to hold back on except $500. I've included some pictures of how Monarch left my pool installation. Until this day, Monarch has never called back to follow up and complete the installation- they left me as you see in the pictures. Ironically, they did have the nerve to send me a flyer wanting to charge me to open my pool. Funny since they never completed the installation, nor did they even come back to make sure the filtration system worked. Good luck!! read more

Went today to look for stuff for the opening of the season. It was a huge store with a pool in it, and a couple of spas. The store was so dirty. They had shock in buckets to grab, rust on the shelving units, and it just looked old. They had maybe four employees working; a couple at desks, and a girl running around at the cash register, and water tests. I was in there for a total of fifteen minutes, and nobody came to greet me. Monarch built our pool in 2015. The waterfall spa has never worked properly. They came to service it numerous times but issue still remains. The jets do not work properly, we gave up and just use it as a small pool instead of hot spa. The pump burned out within 3-4 years, it was very difficult to deal with the office staff, still is. I have always used them to open and close the pool but this is the last year. Called them several times this past weeks and they screen the calls. The office individuals are not friendly at all. If I could rate them less than 1 star I would. Very disrespectful and could not care less of issues. I do have to say the workers who open and close the pool are excellent and that is why I have not switched to another company. ....see my previous review. ..Yep so the saga continues. I went on vacation after we agreed to pay the $1,500 debris removal (an additional blindsiding extra cost) and install the liner. I come back 9.24.21 to learn that their math on the invoice was wrong. Balance Due from us $389.00 and now the congrete needs to be repaired. The husband paid these people the full amount including the liner install apparently they insisted on this $8,286.89. Since I was not around they now have nearly all the money but yeah still NO LINER. I called the owner Tom (twice) 8.28.21 I guess he is in hiding. I emailed Dan. No RESPONSE there either. BTW Every week they are changing the install date. So there GoFundMe program continues and who knows when the concrete work will be done but yep they don't care. "We have all your money!" So just to recap. We paid them $1K on 6.7.21 and it is now 9.15.21 they have $8,200 of our money and have only removed the debris! I have just filed a complaint with the BBB this evening. There are three complaints there already looks like Quality issues. Moving on to Small Claims Court I just wish I reviewed this company before giving them a dime! read more

Went to grab some chlorine tablets for my pool and upon entering was a young staff member handing out laminated cards stating No water testing or Water testing which he told me I must take with me in the store and give back when I leave. I did, not thinking and upon leaving I'm watching the man before me hand it back to the staff memeber at the front who just put it back in the pile he had and handed off next person walking in!!!!!! During these tough COVID-19 times this is unexcusable! Of course I said something but not sure if anything will be done... All he had was baby wipes next to him which have no sort of cleaner in that... Becareful and just pay attention to what others are doing and as always hand sanitizer and wash hands! I can not tell you how happy I am with the service at Monarch! As a new pool owner I was kinda just blindly guessing at with to do based on some youtube videos. I went into Monarch and the manager really took the time to make sure I understood what I needed to do to take care of my pool. He explained the chemicals and the whole process of maintaining the whole system. Yesterday I was a beginner, today I feel like I know what I am doing. We purchased a new house and used Monarch on the recommendation of the previous owner. Highly disappointed. I actually purchased the pool opening and closing as a package since it was cheaper and i will not be using them for the closing They came and removed the cover , put it in a bag and flipped the on switch for the filter - for $350 The service man was rude. Since it was our first time I expected a little guidance as far as what to do next .. fat chance!! The pool was filthy and green so i asked what I needed to do ... the response " well if you close it that way it opens that way!!" But they are the ones that closed it. I did some research and called around to Other companies ... turns out other companies include the starting chemicals for the season when opening. 350$ to pull off the cover and roll it up?? This was the worst experience with a contractor I have ever had. Never in my life have I been treated so poorly and so unprofessionally as with Monarch Pools. We had a 16' x 32' in-ground pool installed this summer in Bergen County. There are no grudges here, I am a business man myself, I only wish that nobody else will ever have to go through what I went through, and that is why I am writing this review: to protect any future customers from hiring a contractor that abuses and exploits customers for their own profit like Monarch Pools. Here is what happened during my pool installation: - They harass you for money. They called my house, yelled at my wife, left negative voicemails, threatened to walk off the job multiple times. THIS IS AFTER THEY HAD ALREADY BEEN PAID!! They were asking the babysitters at the house to write them checks. - They demand more payment than is due. My backyard was a war zone. There was a mountain of dirt in my backyard, the pool was not backfilled, job 1/2 way done, there was unsafe conditions all over, there was stone, debris, garbage, and material everywhere. Their project manager shows up at my house (with the site in this condition) and literally threatens to take me to court at the top of his lungs if I didn't pay him in full. THIS IS WHEN THEY HAVEN'T EVEN BACKFILLED THE POOL AND BY BACKYARD IS A WAR ZONE!!! This is way before final inspections, etc. It's unethical and abusive. - They set you up for damages. I experienced this issue just this week (it is Oct. right now). I am about to close the pool, and their manual says "you do not need to blow the pipes out to winterize the pool". I went to a local pool store to review this, and this local pool store basically said "it was a Monarch install, right?". I couldn't believe it. He told me that he used to work for Monarch and they purposely advise against blowing lines out so when the pipes burst in the winter they can come back for thousand dollar repairs. UNBELIEVABLE!!! - They walked off the job in the middle of the project. This was during the liner installation and due to "lack of payment". This is a $25,000 project, and they had already been paid 95% of their balance. That's roughly $24,000. At this point, the project is about 50% complete. It was ludicrous that I they left the site, did not return until I explained to them that they had already been paid. And of course, there were negative phone calls and voicemails requesting more money. - Poor communication. Their project manager has so much on his plate that he can't remember which job is what. If you ask him a question about the project, he confuses jobs and starts to yell at you. I was yelled at almost 10 times by their office for asking basic, important questions about the project. It was extremely abusive. - They lie to your face about when they will be onsite and not. Their foreman told me during mid-pool construction that they needed to pull of the job "due to forecasted rain". Then two days later they came back in the middle of torrential downpour and continue to work. I couldn't wrap my head around this. - They try to get you to do their work. When their electrician came to the site to start wiring the equipment, he asked me personally to dig the trench in the ground for the conduit. When I explained to him that the trench is part of the contract for the pool, he left the site. When I called the office, their project manager yelled at me demanding that I dig it for them. UNBELIEVABLE!! I couldn't believe what I was hearing. -They gouge you on changes. During excavation, I was told I need "additional gravel" to fill voids in the ground. The bill comes in at $800 for a truckload, which is almost double the going rate. It was blatant price gouging. Furthermore, they only used 1/4 of the load for the "voids", and spread the rest of material around the pool to make their installation easier. So basically, I paid $800 for the $100 worth of gravel that was actually needed. When I called out their office on this, I was yelled at repeatedly for questioning the issue. -They dumped dirt & stone in the pool during backfill and refused to remove it. The pool basically circulated dirt and I couldn't use the pool for most of the summer due to this dirt issue. I called, left messages, and they told me "have someone else remove the stones". I had to hire another pool company to come and remove the dirt and stones. Ridiculous. - They left my chemicals, diving board, rails, manuals in the rain for 2 months. They shipped massive cardboard boxes to my backyard and never told me what they were. After 2 months I asked where the diving board was and then told me all my stuff was in these in these boxes. It had rained many times and basically ruined the manuals, boxes, & chemicals. - They gouged me on the concrete change - Cement was chipped and poorly installed. - Excavator expected me to manage his every step read more

I went in to get some information on in ground and above ground pools. There were many sales people in the back sitting, completely ignored my husband and I when we passed by twice. We waited few moments up front for more staff to stop chatting and see if we needed help, and the same experience. Every single staff ignored us, looked past us and acted like they all could not be bothered. Yes, pools are in high demand lately but hopefully people find others and their supplies elsewhere. Nickel and dimed us on a replacement part - they first charged $175 just to come out because we were 50 miles away. Then they started the clock ($70 per half hour) as soon as they pulled in the driveway even though I watched them sit in the van for a full seven minutes. After getting out and speaking to me, the service man walked up to the pool area - we're now over 10 minutes. Not even 20 minutes later, he is done and sits in the van while I wait for him to finish his bill for service. I see he charges me $140 for an hours work. I inform him that he didn't even work for a full half hour to which he replied they start the clock as soon as the gps shows them at the house! My husband complained to the store to which the woman who answered said she was not going to "start nickel and diming" - her words - and refused our request for a refund for the half hour. I called for service spoke to a guy dave to get hottub fixed. I felt he talked down to me like I was an idiot. Then he told me to buy another spa and it would take 3 weeks to get someone there .he then said take a number because they were backed up. I dont know what class he missed as a sales rep. We purchased our inground pool from monarch. Sales rep brian was great. Forman on the job (Keri) was great as well. Pool came out tremendous. Their concrete company was another story. Our retaining wall and steps started to lean and fall apart within one year. We had them come back and fix the steps but they are once again in terrible shape. We couldn't be happier with our experience with Monarch pools. It's their busiest time of year and they were able to help us with our "extreme circumstance". We did not have our pool installed by them, but they came in with a very competitive price for a replacement liner and said they could accommodate our rush circumstances. They took all of my calls...almost daily because I was such a nervous wreck and they answered my questions graciously. I guess they don't want or need my money. I walked in there today to buy a hot tub. The sales people didn't acknowledge my existence. One of them actually looked right at me and walked away. The two other men at the desk completely ignored me even though I was standing two feet away from them waiting for someone to help me. When he came back, he wanted to charge me for additional time because he was here already and left my yard looking like you know what. When we called the owner to discuss this issue with him, he would not take our calls so my husband drove an hour with pictures to show him how his subcontractor left my pool. He didn't even have the respect or decency to come out and address the issue with my husband. That's not how you do business. Would NOT RECOMMEND this company to my worse enemy. read more

Do not buy chlorine tablets from them. I made the mistake of doing so and a friend of mine said what they are charging is insane-almost 3 X the cost. Probably classifies as price gauging. They will not let me return the product as a safety precaution even though I did not open the product. They told me that customers can open this product because there is no safety sealing. The store manager told me that the product doesn't have a safety sealing because he just opened one to prove to himself. So I cannot return a product that I have not opened as a safety precaution to other customers but he is opening the product in the store and selling them (I'm sure not at a reduced price) to customers who come into the store. Go figure. My 20+ years of doing service with them is obviously a waste. Incidentally, when I purchased the product I had asked if someone could help me get the product into my car and was told to go back to the service area to see if one of them could. Honestly, the worst company with whom I have ever dealt. We had a large, expensive in-ground pool installed. After collecting their final payment prior to the completion of the job, they were unreachable. They did not follow through with obtaining inspections from my town, and sub-contracted to shady companies. The messed up my order, pieces were missing, and needed to come out to my home multiple times to correct their mistakes. It was a huge waste of the time that I do not have a lot of, and I am still dealing with their errors. I am still appalled that they required the final payment for the pool before it was complete. And now that it is nearly complete, there are problems that I cannot get Monarch to address because they have already been paid. Went in to Monarch today, cash in hand ready to buy an above ground pool (despite all of the other negative reviews we were ready to give this place a chance).We were probably in the story for about 10 minutes meandering around the pool area and not 1 of the 8-12 employees could manage to get up out of their seat or stop their personal conversations to help us. they came to install new liner. couldn' t install it and charged us $153 "restocking fee". Installer Jim offered to take down pool frame for $150 . We said ok; he also took our 1 year old skimmer and left a large heavy bag of pool parts that could not be sold for scrap.
