I've been to Molly Moons twice -- the first time was on Capitol Hill, and the second time was in U Vill. I can honestly say if I ever go back, I am never ordering the salted caramel or honey lavender again. My boyfriend came with me to try Molly Moons because I told him it was really good (from my experience at the Capitol Hill location). The waffle cone smell of the store invited us in. We stood in line for about a good five minutes, then my boyfriend ordered Salted Caramel (he loves caramel!) and I got honey lavender (because I usually love lavender milk tea and just the taste of lavender). I can say my boyfriend was pretty disappointed. He threw his out after just two bites. I tasted his salted caramel ice cream and could see why...IT WAS SUPER SALTY. It was like a biteful of salt that was worse than actaul salt--it's supposed to be ICE CREAM. $5 for a cup full of salty nastiness...I think there are people who love salted caramel, so I don't know if we were just unlucky and got the saltiest batch. I actually was fine with my honey lavender in a waffle cone, but it was like the same problem my bf had--it was kind of a little TOO sweet. I think the lavender was a bit too overpowering. I had to keep chewing bits off of the waffle cone to balance the flavor in my mouth. Pretty soon, it made me nauseous. It wasn't as bad as the salted caramel though (and I only had a lick of that!) If you're into weird flavors, I guess it's okay...but Full Tilt's flavors are soooo much better. read more

This place is great and service is very good. There's someone waiting outside to serve you samples while you wait in line to help with efficiency. It's good service and everyone is friendly. They sell ice cream novelty items which are very cute. I would say though, that while the store is very cute, and the service is good, the ice cream is nothing special. In a never-ending quest for gourmet ice cream, a hero would be amiss if she didn't try out Molly Moon's. There are 10-12 flavors along with a few rotating ones, but the classics remain the Earl Grey and the honey lavender. The Earl Grey became my trusty companion, and together we fought for stomach space against the super-thick waffle cone boss monster! Seriously, it was quite a chore. I love my fresh waffle cones like any other adventurer, but the cone was so thick I hit the point of diminishing returns VERY quickly. The Earl Grey is my favorite! The flavor is subtle and isn't overpowering. The strawberry also is subtle and doesn't taste super fake. They make the BEST combo. The waffle cones are to die for but I would rather eat out of a cup so I can switch between flavors. The ice cream here is absolutely delicious! I love that they make the waffle comes fresh right in front of you. The ice cream is a little more expensive then baskin robins or any big store but it is homemade and delicious so definitely worth it. Don't be fooled though, the double scoop is HUGE! Line is quite long, but it moves very quickly. Prices are fair, but lets get to what's important. There is a large variety of flavors seasonal and everyday flavors. They give samples, the ice cream is delicious. What more can you ask for? I was a big fan of the Stumptown Espresso Ice Cream. Only thing is if you find coffee grinds in your teeth later and the ice cream is all gone by then, then you're just chewing on coffee grounds and that's not so good. Maybe I'm just not a Molly fan, but I just don't think this place lives up to the hype! First, the employees aren't super friendly. When I was in last time, one of them kept talking about how it was "the longest shift ever" and they just "wanted to go home now". That's not the kind of environment I want to be in! Another factor is I'm not a huge fan of their sorbet flavors. They usually only have 1-2 and they are over the top and not in a good way. This time I had the blackberry and got the single scoop and could only eat 1/4 of it. It almost tastes like jam that's frozen. The only reason I'm giving 2 stars is because I've had their scout mint and melted chocolate before and I enjoyed these a bit more. The ice cream is great. The cinnamon and oatmeal cookie dough ice cream is my absolute fav! The melted chocolate, coffee, and caramel flavors are fabulous too...try mix & match combos. Unfortunately the fruit-based flavors are a bit bland. The decor is clean and bright, but seating is limited My only complaint is that the service is so incredibly SLOW, SLOW, SLOW!!! I've been in before when three to four people were working, and only one person was scooping ice cream with lines out the door. Sometimes it's faster to just go in pass the line and buy it at the pint...they'll even sell you the waffle cones at the registered too. This makes the experience a lot faster. Several things that makes Molly Moon's distinctive; aside from great ice cream quality, they have some amazingly non-traditional flavors that you wouldn't think works, but ends up being delicious. Stumptown Coffee, Balsamic Strawberry, Honey Lavender, and Earl Grey are definitely my go to's. I'd like to start out by saying that Molly Moon's is an exact copycat of Salt & Straw in PDX. From the flavors to the decor, Molly Moon's has recreated a Salt & Straw in Seattle. Maybe it's because I'm from Portland or maybe it's because I value uniqueness and creative ideas, but it just doesn't sit well with me. But I digress! The simplistic decor with vintage touches is very charming. I love the Boston Terrier mascot! They make their waffle cones fresh and the smell is enchanting! There are about 10 flavors they offer every day and around 4 seasonal flavors. Molly Moon's allows you to try as many flavors as you'd like before deciding. I went with a double scoop of Scout Mint and Salted Caramel. The scoops are huge! One scoop with two flavors would have been plenty for one person. It's around $7 for two scoops which for artisan ice cream is pretty typical. The Scout Mint is delicious! I love how they include crushed up Thin Mints in it. However, the salted caramel was almost inedible. It was SO salty and icy. I had a few bites and threw the rest away. I thought maybe it was just my particular preference but many other yelpers complained about this flavor as well. The flavor selection isn't very intriguing and the Salted Caramel needs some reformulating. But the ice cream is so creamy and made with high quality ingredients, I would give Molly Moon's another shot. read more

The one vegan ice cream option, salted caramel, was way too salty; neither my wife or I liked it though the non-dairy cone was delicious. The mint and double chocolate I had was okay but nothing special. I got tired of the mint after awhile but the double chocolate was better. Prices were too high based on what I'm used to paying in Los Angeles. There's a long line of university students. Store clerks are pleasant. I finally get to the front and I get to sample some pretty funky flavors: balsamic strawberry, Thai tea...... I opted for honey lavender in a waffle cone. Delciously creamy and love the flavor. The lavender really comes through. Close to $7 and that's spendy in my book. But then this IS a treat. One thing I'd change is their waffle cone.
