We visited Nutty Squirrel Gelato on a Saturday afternoon. The shop was spacious with plenty of seating. We ordered two flavors: Nutty Squirrel and Dubai Chocolate. The chocolate was a standout--incredibly rich and one of the best chocolate gelatos I've had. The Nutty Squirrel flavor was intensely peanut-forward. Some other flavors taste more artificial to be so make sure you sample the gelatos. Overall, the gelato was excellent, and we were impressed by the generous portion sizes

Yummy gelato! I had a large size (cherry, nutty squirrel, and dark choco) topped with whip. Fave flavor was cherry! So delish and fresh. Sweet service and very nice looking storefront. Delish!

This is my go-to gelato place in Seattle. Getting there is super easy because there is a bus line that stops right in front of it. They have a great mix of chocolate vs fruity flavors (my favorite is the nutty squirrel and chocolate) and generous portions with a "small" getting you two scoops. Best of all, it's dog friendly and they offer pup cups of whipped cream for any furry friends. Great vibes sitting in the Adirondack chairs outside and people-watching along the spine of Phinney Ridge.

How I heard of this place: A quaint spot in the neighborhood, we walk by Nutty Squirrel Gelato quite often. Rainbow Hop festivities made it only the second time we've stepped inside. Type of cuisine: Italian gelato, about as true to form as can be outside of Italy. Ambiance: Cozy and bright, the garage door windows are open on beautiful warm days, to allow ventilation and a cool breeze as you stand in line awaiting your selection. The seating are is small and packed in with tables and chairs, making it difficult to walk through. The kitchen area takes up more than half of the entirety of the establishment - or so it seems - where two young employees are serving the hoards of children and parents awaiting their treats. On the sidewalk in front, three bright orange adirondak chairs are available, too, to watch passerby and entice them with your glorious, creamy concoctions. What I ordered: We had one order of strawberry shortcake on a sugar cone, and a second order of a double scoop - salted caramel and lemon cookie, also on a sugar cone. I also sampled the Nutty Squirrel signature which was similar in flavor to a Snickers bar, as well as the extra chocolatey one, which was perfectly decadent. What I loved: When it comes to gelato, I'm a sucker for the citrus flavors, and the lemon cookie provided just that. Why I loved it: A quick and filling treat to help us on the walk home. Cost: Average to high.

Massive portion, friendly service, adorable branding and free cookie on top of your gelato, what else could you ask for?! I loved that they have indoor seating although limited, to escape from the cold in winter days, and they also have restroom if you need it :)

Not the best gelato I've had, but it was decent! Parking is just street parking. The night I went, there was only one worker so it did take a while to get the gelato. She looked really annoyed I was asking to try flavors. I'm glad I did because some flavors were not great. They did have a lot of flavors to choose from - dairy free sorbetto, chocolates, fruits, pistachio, and their famous nutty squirrel. There's a few seats inside, but the place is definitely on the smaller side.

The Gelato was amazing. The wife and kiddo got the vegan strawberry in which wasn't to bad, however that tiramisu was absolutely amazing and a must.

Stumbled on this place by accident and decided to give it a shot! It's a small shop with a few tables for seating. Ordered the Lavender Vanilla and Guava gelato flavors, super delicious!! The lavender vanilla was creamy and sweet and the guava flavor was tart. Workers were kind and helpful in answering questions.

After having a good lunch we were craving for some ice cream and on the search this place popped up with good reviews. Street parking is available. Many other good eats around. We were greeted by a sweet lady, many flavors standard ones and new ones. They do give out samples to taste of your choice. As per the suggestion of the lady I got :- Chocolate ice cream:- Nice creaminess and bold chocolate flavor, more on the dark chocolate side. And my better half got:- Coffee ice cream:- We have had better. So, heres the thing the cup size you get to choose from is small or kidz size. They do fill the cup to top. We got the small one which was $7, WOHH. Its good if you are on diet! Lol. Overall, not for us.

Every time I walk past this place, it smells amazing. I finally went inside, and I don't regret it! There are lots of interesting flavors, but with this being my first time, I decided to go with some more common ones: pistachio, salted caramel, and espresso. All three flavors tasted good. The texture was super smooth and creamy. My favorite was the salted caramel. The saltiness perfectly balanced with the sweetness, and it was a bit addicting. I couldn't stop my spoon from moving towards that flavor more often than to the others. The pistachio was a good, solid, nutty pistachio which I always enjoy. The espresso was good but a bit forgettable... I think it could've been stronger in flavor. The service was ok, nothing special. The space has some extra things they sell on racks like honey and such... but the star is the gelato. OH! Lastly, I usually don't care much for this type of thing, but I found the design on the cup very cute. It was of dancing people!

It's good ice cream! It's just not good gelato... It doesn't have the right creaminess, richness and thick texture as a proper gelato. But they are definitely making tasty ice creams. The stracciatella was fine - it's a classic gelato flavor, a simple sweet cream base with dark chocolate drizzle. The nutty squirrel was recommended, which makes sense given the name of the shop, and it was good too. Peanut butter ice cream is never a bad idea. The cone was tasty too. It's a cute shop on a nice street with some other things to see, and nearby the zoo. I would go again because it's good, it's just not good gelato.

As you can see from my review years ago, when my hubs and I came back from a trip to Italy, we wanted to find a gelato shop that had the same quality as the shops in Rome. Not all the gelato and sorbetto we had in Italy was good, some flavors tasted artificial, and during our time there, we learned how to tell the good from the meh. When we returned to Seattle, we were happy to find great-Italy-like gelato at the Bottega Italiana in Green Lake. After that shop closed (still sad about that!) we started going to their other shop by Pike Place Market. For years, this place featured delicious, fresh, quality gelato and sorbetto that tasted like the flavors they were labeled with--so strawberry tasted like eating real strawberries and so on. But on a recent visit, I got a small cup with strawberry and raspberry-dragon fruit and the first flavor I got when I tasted it was sugar. As I ate more of it, it started to remind me of Jolly Rancher candies, not totally, but enough to turn me off. They use just enough fruit to make you believe it's the flavor that it's labeled with, but the amount of sugar and other things added makes their fruit flavors as meh as the not-so-good shops we learned to avoid in Rome. Alas, I think my favorite gelato shop in Seattle has fallen prey to profit over quality. Why, Bottega Italiana, why??? It makes me and my hubs very sad. The only reason I am giving two stars instead of one is because the service was friendly and efficient, and my hubs's dairy-based gelato flavors were all right--not great but all right. Over the years, we've tried all the other gelato shops in Seattle and none of them measure up either. I guess it's time we take another trip to Italy.

However, there are standout flavors like waffle cone that I had to get, as well as the more traditional flavors like pistachio. The flavors I ended up getting were the waffle cone and strawberry rhubarb. I liked the quality of the gelato but it was more on the icy texture than smooth. For the price of $6+tax, it is one of the pricier options around for the portion. If this was the best gelato in Seattle, I'd have written the price off as a premium for quality, but I've had a few spots that in my opinion are better in texture and flavor.
