I cannot recall the last time I visited Bluebird Ice Cream! I know it's been well over 10 years! My kiddo and I finally made it back in today and it did not disappoint! My kiddo had 1/2 scoop of double chocolate chip with 1/2 scoop of pistachio ice cream in a waffle cone and I had 1/2 a scoop of double chocolate chip (I couldn't help myself) and 1/2 scoop of Marionberry ice cream!!! I can never say no to anything Marionberry!!!! It was so good and exactly what we needed today! Very nice staff that are helpful and knowledgeable. Feel free to ask questions about the origins of any ingredients and don't be shy about asking for samples. Food - Everyone in our party had freezer burned ice cream. Lots of ice chunks with no flavor. The ice cream samples were good which is why we decided to buy ice cream but we were fooled. The actual scoops had so many ice crystals, it made the flavors watered down and way too crispy and cold to enjoy. Even after waiting several minutes for the ice cream to melt a little bit it was still miles below other ice cream shop competitors. They do offer vegan flavors and seasonal flavors Service - Server was friendly and the redeeming quality of this place. Ambiance - Overall a cute little ice cream shop. Bluebird is one of my favorite small batch ice cream, they offer very unique seasonal like Gingerbread during the holiday season (it's delicious!!) Trey was extremely kind, and offered wonderful customer service on a quiet Sunday. We stopped by for a classic milkshake, helps the ride home with two toddlers. And last night when we went into the Greenlake area location, there was no distinct awesome smell of vanilla which usually hits you in the face, as apparently they were out of waffle cone batter . He saw that we were disappointed and we said yes, our first time having bluebird we managed to get it with a super fresh still warm cone during the Fremont bike festival. We're slowly trying to make our way through all the ice cream and gelato spots every time we come for a visit. Blue Bird was next in line. They're located next door to Caffe Vita. We dropped in on a Friday evening (around 9:30pm). There was a constant stream of people coming in and out. The inside is small but cute with 5 seats at the bar and three tables (6 seats). There's a couple tables outside too. There was 14 flavours (10 regular and four rotating flavours) to hem and haw over. The guy working the front was friendly and let us try half a dozen samples. Scoops are $4.00 US ($1.50 US for each additional scoop) and $10.00 US for a pint. There's also sundaes, soda and beer floats. Apparently, they usually have 5 beers and two to three soda options. All are made in-house although the ice cream is made off site. There's a bunch of merchandise and growlers. Their hats are cool but cost $48.00 US. Yes, you read that right. Fancy hipster, one of a kind Ebbets cap wear. - Double scoop ($5.50 US) - we went with a homemade waffle cone ($1.00 US) and settled on the caramel creme egg and hurricane (passionfruit, orange and cherry). The caramel creme egg was delightfully airy and creamy. Caramel and vanilla ice cream base with shavings of chocolate Easter egg bits. Hurricane was a vegan flavour; originally, I enjoyed the taste when we sampled it but a full scoop not so much. The fruit flavour was very subtle and I didn't enjoy the texture. I've had vegan ice cream before and loved it, just not this one. It's a cute but pricey ice cream spot. 3.5 stars. read more

I had heard good things about Bluebird Ice Cream and was glad to finally visit. This was during Covid and they were doing a good job following protocols. They had a selection of about ten ice creams. I chose the salted caramel in a cup. The ice cream lived up to its reputation. It is nice and creamy and this one was the perfect mix of sweet and salty. Such an awesome place for a treat if you're in Phinney Ridge/Greenwood. We went in today and Lucas was so friendly and helpful. I have celiac disease and he was super thorough- without me asking, he showed me the iPad with each flavor's ingredients to confirm it was gluten free as well as offered to get a new tub and scooping spoon to make sure there wasn't any cross contamination. I got the salted caramel which had pretty good flavor but the texture was pretty icy which is not what you want in ice cream. They did have good handmade cones. The vanilla bean ice cream is very sweet, which was good for the kid I was with but, not so good for an older pallet. It didn't melt into liquid but instead was thick, gelatinous goo. It stood up in the pint carton. WTF?!? That freaked me out. I think their vegan flavors are made of mostly oil. They also have a few board games as well The flavors they had seem pretty interesting, and I was able to sample the Marion berry as well as the salted caramel. I ended up getting the caffe Vita flavor because coffee is always my go to. My friend got the coconut mint chip which was super tasty as well. It's also nice that there was more than 1 type of vegan ice cream so anyone who is lactose intolerant have more than one option to choose from. Especially with growler on hand to refill with tasty hand crafted root beer and select from any of those incredible ice cream flavors. Tonight I opted for cups not cones, each with a scoop of CB's Peanut Butter and Theo's Chocolate Chunk. An indie supporting other local businesses is a major plus. CB's Nuts is located across the Sound in Kingston, while Theo's is in Seattle's Fremont neighborhood. Cross pollination of high quality businesses results with epic end products. Next time though, the Homie needs to accompany me, as I ended up with an ice cream disaster in my car! My front doorstep also looked like a dairy crime scene with ice cream dribbles all over the place. Much better than the exploding milk tea, but another story altogether. You must get the Caffe Vita ice cream! It's so, so, so good and is by far one of my favorite ice creams. This location is right on the main Greenwood Avenue drag, with neighboring businesses and shops, including one of my favorite coffee spots, Caffe Vita. If you're a fan of the coffee then the ice cream is a must. Once I asked to try a sample I was hooked and haven't been able to get any other flavor. The Caffe Vita ice cream has tons of caffeinated flavor, as if you're chowing down on chocolate-covered espresso beans! And it's rich and creamy, with the visible grounds speckled throughout the ice cream. It's fantastic. I always order just one scoop, which is more than enough as they fill your cup over the top. They also have homemade waffle cones, BEER, growlers, and tons of other flavors that sound appealing (but I just haven't gotten over the CV flavor), and that they can make into a sundae. The space is small and after visiting on a scorching day I realized they don't have AC, but the fans were blowing away. There is a restroom here and patio seating.
