This place sells fish but they actually have pretty good vegan options. We got all their vegan options and they were very good. We had a vegan tuna roll. A vegan salmon roll. Avocado. Inari. Moshi and bubba tea. The staff knows what vegan is and he prevented us from getting the bao bun because it has diary. Very delicious and good service
My favorite sushi spot in Pittsburgh! The fish is so fresh and I really appreciate how their sushi rice is served warm. Service is great, and it's very cute in there.
I got two rolls from Mola bc I heard good things about this sushi place. It's located inside Novo Asian Food Hall toward the back wall. Lots of seating and tables around. Good luck finding street parking, the strip is usu a very busy place. I got the Eel Avocado Almonds CR and Crispy Spicy Tuna CR (total was about $24). They do serve apps and drinks along with other Japanese food like poke bowls. The eel avo was good but could've had more eel sauce. Presented neatly, but could've had more flavor? I took a gamble on what the crispy spicy tuna roll could've been like but it was not what I expected. The crispy crunch came from those fried balls scattered all over. I personally was not a fan. I was originally thinking the rice could be crispy. The balls easily fell off the roll, so it was kind of like a normal spicy tuna roll with crispy balls scattered on top.
It's been 5 years of going to Mola since I've moved to Pittsburgh and I can still say confidently that Mola is the best bang for your buck in terms of sushi quality and ingredients in town. I always get their sushi grande (8 nigiri, 1 blue crab hand roll, 1 spicy tuna roll for $44) to go, and it's so worth it!!
I got the Salmon & Ikura CR (3.5/5), Sea Bream & Black Truffle Pâté HR (2/5), and Hot & Spicy Organic Chicken (4.25/5) for takeout. The salmon roll was good but nothing special, maybe a little expensive for what it was. The sea bream hand roll was very disappointing; it wasn't rolled properly, I couldn't taste any truffle, and it was tiny, especially for the cost. However, the chicken bowl was pretty good. When I come back, I'll definitely avoid the hand rolls. I'm excited to try the bao buns and maybe another bowl or hand roll. The takeout order was ready on time, and a staff member quickly brought it to me (4/5).
I LOVE Mola! I think it's the best sushi in Pittsburgh. Every time I go there's always at least one (and usually more!) fish on the menu I've never heard of before. The waiters are extremely knowledgeable about the fish options & give really good suggestions on both the food & wine pairings. You're going to spend more money than the ambiance would suggest, but it's so worth it for the quality of this sushi & service. Positives: great service, hidden gem, visitors, wine list Negatives: expensive
Finally got sushi from Mola and it was worth the wait!! I got a takeout order of the Tuna & Avocado CR as well as the Spicy Salmon CR and both were excellent. While the tuna was clearly high quality, it was a bit plain (but still delicious!) and I preferred the flavors of the spicy salmon more. I would love to dine in sometime soon but tonight's takeout was 5/5!
Mola is an engaging, hip sushi bar. Food, drinks and service were excellent. Tucked away next to retail, it would be easily missed. Cocktails were original and a fusion of classics and Asian food influence. We each had delicious, unique cocktails. And, Austrian resiling was excellent, We shared spicy edamame, a hand roll and several cut rolls. The rice, which is a specialty, had a delicious, unique flavor. I think it's made with aged vinegar. The fresh ginger was a highlight, too. Service was friendly and helpful. Being a Californian, we expect somewhat outrageous prices. So, having great sushi, at a reasonable price, is wonderful. Recommend? Yes! Will we comeback? Absolutely!
Food is inspired and one of the best poke around. Service even when busy is always exceptional and love the vibe.
Mola is one of my all time favorite sushi places in Pittsburgh. I went last Friday to get my takeout order, and the staff is always friendly and helpful. I got some of my favorite rolls, and everything was so fresh and flavorful as always.
If you're looking for a fantastic meal and experience, look no further than the omakase experience at Mola! Omakase means "I'll leave it to you" in Japanese and it's a dining experience where the chef curates a multi-course meal for you based on their expertise and the availability of seasonal ingredients. Omakase isn't advertised on Mola's website and it's one of Pittsburgh's best kept foodie secrets so here's the scoop. You have to call to make a reservation and you have the option of choosing from a couple of different tiers. We chose the least expensive tier which was $125 a person and comes with appetizers for the table, a dessert that everyone can pick individually, and at least 13 courses and you get pick between wagyu and uni for one of the courses. Each course was better than the last and we ended up with 16 courses which was more than enough food! My favorites were the torched salmon belly, seared otoro, the crispy wafer with chutoro, the wagyu handroll, and the black sesame mont blanc cake. This meal was truly phenomenal and I know I'll be thinking about it for a long time!
This is a cute little spot in East Liberty. Gets busy, but was lucky to snag a table on a Friday night. Our service was fantastic. Some of the best I've had in a long time. Our waitress was attentive, personable, everything you want a server to be. We tried a few cut rolls, the crab salad, seaweed salad, and 1 bao. Everything was great. It is a pretty simple sushi menu, so I'd recommend going elsewhere for more intricate rolls. We did not have any drinks, but they had some cocktail specials that sounded quite good. Worth trying for sure.
It's been a minute since I've reviewed Mola but it's honestly my favorite sushi spot in town that's on my regular rotation. Their sushi rolls just always hit and the seasoned rice really does make a difference. I like the spicy salmon roll and the California. Their wasabi and ginger is my favorite too since it tastes real and actually good. I also recommend their bao buns, the fried chicken one always hits. I did order the spicy edamame today and it wasn't my favorite since I'm not huge on sesame oil. Love that you can also get other Japanese dishes here like curry and katsu. The fish is fresh and they do everything well here! Definitely recommmend it to all my sushi lovers. They do an omakase here that I've yet to try but I know people love it. Service is also always fast, esp for takeout and delivery. I've dined inside at Mola before and it's a nice space but every time I come on a weekend night, there usually is a long wait for a table.
Great fresh fish and a very great menu. There are multiple drink options including hard liquor and sakes! The cut rolls and specials are reasonably priced and our server was very attentive. We enjoyed the crab handroll and the sushi selection including yellowtail and tuna! It is a smaller seating space so sure to make a reservation! read more

Fresh fish, great service! The edamame was excellent! The sauce was the perfect amount of slightly spicy. The salmon poke bowl was so filling! I was super happy with my dinner and still made room for the mochi. Lychee was my fave! My dining partners did the omakase and were completely stuffed. They really enjoyed the freshness of the chef's choice selections. It can be a bit packed in the dining room but it has a very modern feel. It's great for groups 6 and under. read more
If you've had good sushi, don't come here you'll be disappointed. But service is quick and their drinks were nice. Good range of food options although imo a little overpriced for the quality. Came with family on a recommendation, probably won't come again unless dragged out by a friend who really likes it. read more
Delicious!!! This place really does have great sushi for the city. Our waiter was great even though the service was a little slow... which I enjoyed since I didn't feel rushed at all and had lots of time to chat & decide what I wanted. Ambience was great- small place but super fun. I got the sushi regular combo & a hot rose milk tea (phenomenal!) and I was full and satisfied for $50 total (plus tip). I will say- the nigiri had wasabi in the rice which I wasn't a huge fan of- so if you're wasabi averse beware. Getting a day-of reservation for 6 on a Thurs was easy & I highly recommend booking in advance because it's a small place! Can't wait to come back. read more

Every dish we had was great. The a la carte specials menu had some uncommon items, like kamatoro, which was a pleasant surprise. The uni chirashi was also a standout. We'll be coming back when we're in the area again. read more

There is a reason this place is ranked number 1 for sushi in Pittsburgh. The poke bowl I got was one of the best meals I've had in Pittsburgh in years. The bf said that this sushi stands up well against some of the best sushi in London. Our spicy edamame was delicious and as you know we are Edamame experts. We also got drinks that were delicious and our waitress was very friendly and helpful. We will certainly be regulars at this spot. They also have a nice lunch special where if you order an entree you get a soup or salad for free! read more

Gluten free, one of the best poke bowls I've ever had. Service was fast and very Friendly. read more
Enjoyed the experience. Ordered a variety of items... Pork belly bao (braised pork belly, crushed peanuts, pickled cucumber, cilantro) Crispy chicken bao (chicken breast, slaw, sriracha Mayo) Spicy bluefin Tuna hand roll Chirashi (salmon, tuna, yellowtail, shrimp, scallop) Spicy crab salad The chicken bao and bluefin tuna rolls were great. Pork belly bao nothing memorable. The Chirashi was fun but not sure I'd get it again for its price point. Bartender was friendly and attentive until it was time to get bill. Seemingly understaffed and had to add more time in meter as result. read more
One of my favorite sushi spots in the Pittsburgh area, Hands down! I love everything about East Liberty and this restaurant is truly a hidden gem amongst other sushi spots in and around the area. The location itself is the perfect size for a sushi restaurant. A small seating and bar area which always makes for a better dining experience when it comes to eating sushi. The staff was great and I never witnessed a single employee who was not smiling. I loved that! The import beer selection was as to be expected at a good sushi restaurant and they also had some local favorites on tap as well which made me very happy. The nigiri was very fresh and tasted excellent, the tuna roll was super tasty and the seaweed salad was delicious. I can't say enough about this place besides I'll be back the next time I'm in town. Thank you for the great food and excellent service :D read more

One of the yummiest fusion dining spots in East Liberty! Very busy, popular restaurant. Luckily we visited in the summer and they were able to literally add a table and seats out front for us. The menu gets updated regularly and you can't lose with any of its items. read more
Back here to finally try the Omakase and it's definitely the best in town. Everything was made to perfection. Staff were amazing and service was excellent. Our servers made sure share each course in great detail. Every bite was heavenly. I would recommend to snag a reservation if you want to do an omakase with them. read more
Ordered some takeouts and they were yummy! I love the freshness of their sashimi and sushi, both salmon and scallops tasted awesome! One thing I do notice is that everything is higher priced in the DoorDash app so next time I would definitely try dine-in. read more
Mola is by far the best sushi restaurant in pittsburgh! I've tried a few, and I was stunned by the quality and freshness of the food! We went here for our friends surprise bday party, and we had a blast! We started with some dumplings and my girlfriend got a miso soup! The miso soup had such an incredible flavor for it! Then, we each got 2 cut rolls and kind of shared them all! The highlights where the bluefin toro and the blue crab rolls, both were absolutely incredible and the amount of fish you got for the price point was well worth it! They also provide a complimentary tuna roll for orders over $45 dollars! I want to come back and try their omakase at some point! read more

Been to Tokyo (my staff member's uncle was a sushi chef), worked in New York, and enjoyed sushi in coastal seafood meccas like Portland, Maine and Vancouver. This King Salmon Chirashi (sourced from Hokkaido) blew my freakin' mind! This place is so good and unpretentious, but casually refined. Will come back again and again. read more
My first time at Mola was a huge success, I can't wait to go back! I called the same day and was able to get a reservation. Their dining room is on the small side so I would definitely recommend making a reso. Our server was really friendly and was eager to explain the specials to us as we were clueless on all of the types of cuts of fish that were available. It's really cool to see the menu of fresh fish that they have coming in daily to serve. I had a glass of Sauvignon Blanc which was a great pairing with our meals. We started with edamame, shishito peppers and pork belly bao buns. Everything was incredible, I really enjoyed the sauce that came with the peppers. The pork belly was amazing & super tender. For dinner, I had a salmon & avocado roll as well as a shrimp tempura, cucumber and avocado roll. They were both delicious, really fresh and super filling. I can't wait to come back! read more

Great to-go meal for my first time trying this restaurant. The food was prepared quickly. I had the miso glazed salmon (sub broccoli to make it GF) and a tuna/avocado roll. My husband had a shrimp tempura roll, Cali roll, and a sirloin steak rice bowl. All were equally delicious and we will be back. read more

First time in Pittsburgh and first time in shadyside neighborhood. Completely no idea what I was up to. It was such a pleasant first encounter with Pittsburgh. The sashimis are fresh with lots of choices. Surprisingly some Chinese stir fried veggie dishes were recommended by the waitress, so it seems the locals like them. Plus points. Lots of choices for Sake and sake based cocktails which are really nice. I don't like sweet drink so the cucumber cocktail hit the home run. Last but not least, I would like to recommend their desserts. They serve small low cost dessert, only $4 a piece for the cheesecake. Yuzu cheese cake is the most popular, but I really love the matcha cheesecake. I had both, not guilty at all as they are in a perfect portion for sampling. read more
We were able to get in on a Friday night with a last min reservation! We started with the Shishito Pepper! Not to spicy but a great flavor and it's mild. I ordered the sushi lite which consisted of 4 pieces of raw fish and a California roll. It was the perfect amount of food! The quality of the fish was fresh! Everything is made to order! I also order the special soft shell crab bao! It was good but it definitely needed a sauce or a spicy Mayo to top it off. It was a little lacking in flavor! The restaurant is on the smaller side but I love how quick everyone gets seated. It's beautiful decorated with a huge chalk board showing their specials! You can tell the staff cares about making their guest feel welcomed. Although it was fairly busy, one of the staff members went outside their door and started to pick up all the trash around their area! read more
I enjoyed my first time at Mola! For two, we ordered shishito peppers, spicy tuna cut roll, bluefin tuna cut roll, and salmon avocado cut roll. The bluefin tuna is incredibly tender, and the spicy tuna was very flavorful. The sushi is well-priced for the quality and quantity of fish. The cuts are pretty large, so I may ask for 8 cuts instead of 6 next time I go. The waitstaff was knowledgeable of gluten allergens on the menu and provided gluten free soy sauce (tamari). The inside was fairly casual. We sat at the bar and did not have to wait for a table on Friday evening without a reservation. If you're going with more than 2, I'd recommend a reservation. read more

I have been here in person a couple of times, and got them delivered once or twice when I was living in Shadyside. If you get actual food and not sushi, you're probably better off going in person. Their sushi is good. I love scallops so it is nice to see scallop sashimi on the menu. What I really come here for is the Japanese curry. I love curry that has potatoes and carrots in it, but usually curry in Pittsburgh has tons of onions and other vegetables. Their curry has a decent amount of both, and the carrots aren't hard. The chicken is crispy, and the curry itself is thick and tastes good as well. It's also pretty filling. Never had room for dessert after. The boba here is alright. Think next time I go I will try a different drink. I don't know what the ladies bathroom looks like, but the guys' room has some funny artwork lol. read more

Mola is a nice spot for some quality sushi as well as some other items including bao buns. The restaurant is nice though it does feel somewhat cluttered. They have table seating as well as some bar top options as well. Reservations are possible which is recommended as they have limited space and it does seem busy. The service was good and the food came out pretty quickly after we ordered. The Sushi regular combo was pretty good though I'm not sure I'd want to have the blue crab hand roll again. My daughter enjoyed her Spicy Salmon Poke. The seaweed salad and pork boa buns were also tasty. read more
Okay! Pregnant ladies dream. Vegan sushi that tastes like the real thing. I've been so sad thinking I wouldn't get to enjoy it for nine months. But honestly I couldn't tell the difference! I also enjoyed a ginger salad and a passion fruit mochi for dessert. Cute little place too! But a decent amount of seating for the size. Also bar seating with a variety of cocktails and bubble teas. read more

Visited Mola today for the first time today, and was very impressed. The outside of the restaurant and location can be unassuming, but this is easily one of the best places in Pittsburgh for sushi. The service was outstanding and welcoming. The young lady explained the items on their feature wall. We ordered the king salmon, regular salmon, o-toro, kama-toro and amaebi (?), along with a salmon and avocado roll, and were delightfully surprised. In North America, the best sushi we have had was in Baltimore and Markham, and haven't been able to find a good sushi place in Pittsburgh. This may have just made it to the number 1 spot for us. We will be back to try other menu items. read more
My cousins have been here and told me we had to dine here once I visited them. I was so happy we decided to go here and get reservations last minute. Shout out to the staff for taking care of us and also accommodating us on such short notice. We ordered everything from bluefin tuna, toro shiso, blue crab, tuna tataki, pork belly/crispy chicken baos, and the Mola chirashi. We took advantage of the weekend lunch special so just remember to ask about their specials and special menu food items. I paid a premium for my chirashi, but it was well worth it with the amount of toro, uni and salmon roe in my bowl. The uni and toro hand roll is a must order. The toro and salmon here is really buttery. Quality is on another level and definitely premium. The service here was great as the staff recommended us speciality drinks and the lunch menu special. Our food came out really quickly and the menus are easy to read. I like how Mola features premium seafood items and your typical rolls to satisfy all diners. Overall, we all really enjoyed our experience here. Highly recommend this place if you love Japanese and asian fusion food. read more
This was my first trip to Mola. I've heard some great things about Mola and had to try it out! They have a very extensive menu with so many things to try. Some of the standouts were the Blue crab hand roll, Bao Buns, and the mango crepe cake. We left full and all for a reasonable price for what we ordered! The only downside to the meal was our service, it was a busy night but it just seemed very disorganized. We often found ourselves waiting or having to flag someone down. read more

Finally got to try out their sushi and Japanese food and I was blown away! I've had the MOLA CHIRASHI FOR 2, CHIRASHI BOWL, and GYUDON BOWL WITH UDON. And for nigiri/sashimi, I've had: SALMON, JAPANESE SEA BREAM, and JAPANESE YELLOW TAIL. Their raw fish looks and tastes fresh. I have never tried raw scallops before and it was SO DELICIOUS. The gyudon bowl with udon was also shockingly delicious. The beef is a bit salty on its own but with the udon it's utter perfection. I haven't had such a mind-boggling first bite in so long. They seemed to be having low staff for quite a while since COVID so try to be patient! But looking past longer wait times, the staff is very friendly. Will definitely be returning for more sushi and gyudon bowls! tldr; Food 5/5 Service 5/5 Timeliness 3.5/5 Interior 4/5 read more
the drinks and food were both AMAZING! This restaurant is small so it gives off intimate vibes, which I really liked. I sat at the bar and our bartender was incredible. He made the best drinks! I had the snow angel sale, which is served cold. I'm typically a fan of hot sake but I really enjoyed this one! I also had the lychee lemon spritz which was so good and not super sweet. For dinner I got 1 pork belly boa bun and the spicy tuna roll. The pork belly bun was UNREAL. The meat was literally so soft it was melting in my mouth. The roll was also great! I'll definitely be back to try more! read more

I love an unassuming restaurant that delivers with a punch. Fresh and flown in Japanese fish on weekly occasions, rare sushi finds, creative rolls both hand cut and roll cut. Bao selections, veggie selections - their regular veggie small plate is my #1 go to appetizer next to the tuna tataki. The collaboration of Tuna and Truffle is to die for. A flavor savor that left no disappointment. Cocktails are always fresh and curated by their mixologist. Good selections of sake by cup, carafe, and bottle. Beer and wines are great also. One of my top 3 restaurants for Sushi in Pittsbuurgh. read more
I saw Mola on the top sushi places in Pittsburgh on the news and I had to try! It has a little cozy atmosphere inside, though you were very well spaced from other tables, and had great service! Their menu was rather unique and there were some cool sushi rolls I had never heard of or tried before! I really liked all of the rolls I tried, except for the crab ones--they were just too crabby and I prefer a crab stick 100%. Other than that, it was nicely displayed and I would definitely return! In reference to my picture: Top row: Salmon Avocado Roll YUM, California Roll did NOT like, Avocado Cucumber Roll yummy Second row: Yellowtail Jalapeno Roll different and good!, Blue Crab Roll did NOT like, another Avocado Cucumber Roll yum Third row; Blue fin Toro Shiso Roll LOVED it, Eel, Avocado and Almond Roll delicious, Ahimi, Avocado and Cucumber Roll veryyy good! Bottom row: Crispy Spicy Tuna Roll delicious read more
