    Miso soup

We got bento boxes. 5/5 Great variety of their dishes- was like having 6 courses! California roll, fried Goyza, fried shumai, tempura shrimp and tempura vegetables and teriyaki chicken and rice. One of us had miso soup. The other person had the clear soup. The California roll was ok. But who knew that you could tempura broccoli?!! Fried vegetables!? Yum! Yes please! And who knew you could fry shumai?? I'll have more of that also! We really enjoyed the visit. I thought Japanese food was all healthy. This was crazy to me. But quite enjoyable. It's almost subversive to deep fry vegetables and shumai! Server was very nice and checked on us but did not rush us. The booth was cozy. Dark wood. We liked the atmosphere. The restaurant seems clean. We liked the decor in the entry way with the waterfall and plants. We will definitely be back. 5/5 experience. Highly recommend.

This is a fantastic spot for sushi. Our server was sweet and full of energy, and the sushi itself was amazing. My only complaint? I got too full to try the other menu items that looked just as delicious, guess that just means I'll have to come back again.

Good sushi. Freshly rolled. They are able to customize your rolls. Service was attentive and considerate. The restaurant can get a bit loud as it is a pretty small place but perfect for small parties.

Got our order wrong but replaced it without a problem. Everything was delicious. The decoration is tasteful and not fussy.

    Love Boat #2

Ordered from Yama this week in honor of my wife and my anniversary. Yama isn't doing eat-in yet so we celebrated at home, but still tried to make a night of it by testing out the #2 love boat that comes with 3 different rolls as well as a sampling of 8 different sushi pieces. It was a lot of food but we also ordered a side of vegetable tempura for good measure! The chef needed about 25 minutes to prepare everything so I'm glad we called ahead. Total bonus, but as we pulled up the food was just coming out of the kitchen--perfect timing! The vegetable tempura was pretty good, but with our 15 minute drive back the food got a little cold (obviously no fault of Yama's). The sushi was varied and interesting! I wish there was a chest sheet to refer to what we were eating, but for the most part everything was really good! There were one or two sushi pieces that tasted a little more fishy than I would've liked, but who am I to judge Mother Nature's creations? All in all great experience and a nice way to celebrate an anniversary amidst COVID restrictions.

    Sushi nigiri 8 pc combo

Yama Sushi is the closest sushi restaurant to our house. They seem to get both decent takeout and dine-in business. I always orders the sushi meal that gives you nigiri and a maki roll wherever I get sushi. I ordered the 8 pc combo here. The sushi and ginger dressing salad were good. It's about what you expect from your local strip mall sushi in the suburbs. I'd definitely return and I saw they have a $3 cork fee which is nice since they don't serve alcohol. The kids enjoyed the ice cream sandwich.

After trying a lot of different places since moving out here, I think I finally found my favorite sushi spot. We made it just in time to catch the end of the lunch special deals even though we ended up trying more from the appetizer side lol. The ambiance and atmosphere is nice and quiet and the trickling glass waterfall is very soothing. I selected the 3 sushi roll combo and had the spicy tuna, eel avocado, and salmon and avocado rolls. I love that they give a good amount of ginger because a lot of other places I've tried have skimped out on that. We totally forgot to take a picture of the Godzilla roll my partner ordered but hands down it's the best one we've ever had. He also tried the katsu don which he said tasted really good but didn't have enough meat in proportion to the rice they gave along with it. The gyoza was good (hard to say it's the best I've had since I miss my dumpling spots of NYC) but we still very much enjoyed them. The soft shell crab and Surume lka were also very yummy and will be repeat options to order in the future. We look forward to coming back and trying other things off their menu.

Went here for the lunch special and wasn't disappointed! I got the sushi combination with my choice of three types of rolls and clear soup. I also added the spicy Kani salad which was awesome. My fiancé had the steak and shrimp hibachi lunch which also came with soup. Next time I think I'd try a bento box! Decent prices, huge menu and super fresh ingredients!

Ask the Community - Yama Sushi

You close on Valentine's Day this year?? On a Monday

    Is Yama Sushi still open?

    Yes!!!

    Did Yama Sushi close?

No! They were open for a while with only take out, but sit down is back!

    Do they serve alcohol?

    No, it's BYOB

Are reservations required for dinner or can you usually just walk in?

You can usually walk right in. They turn tables quickly so even if they are busy, the short wait won't bother you. In fact, I have never made a reservation there before. For a larger group (4 or more) I would probably at least call ahead.

Apteka. This was perfect for my wife, who is vegan. An all vegan Eastern-European eatery. Great weather added to the ambience. Plenty of plants in the background. We had a foursome with my friend and his husband. Apteka offers a service where you place your orders at the bar, and they come bring the food to you when it's ready. We started off with Hungarian fried bread (Langos) and then followed it with Salatka ziemniaczana. Potato salad with greens. Entree we had the pierogis. I mean, we Had to, back in Pittsburgh. Only thing missing was the cookie table but the dessert was great as well. Everything was comforting and filling. Plenty for us two. They had a special collab beer with 2 Frays, a brewery that is really solid. Was just starting off when I was leaving Pittsburgh 5 years ago and now has been pretty popular in Bloomfield. Overall, Apteka offers fine dining, inspired dishes with a vegan twist, and is a must. Reservations are a must as dining is limited to the weekend.

This resulted in a chaotic atmosphere at the two places where you could order food and constantly having to get up from your table every time you needed something. The staff essentially became food runners and they were not very pleasant. We were told that we could not have an appetizer followed by our main course as "food comes out as it's ready." With the bar being backed up, this meant we received some apparently pre-made food even before our drinks arrived. Again, it felt chaotic. The final proverbial "straw" was that they sat strangers right next to us at the same table which was extremely awkward and uncomfortable. All in all, it was hands-down one of the worst dining experiences I've ever had. :(

The kitchen was able to accommodate one gluten-free guest, but beware the offerings are heavy on the whipped cream, so bring plenty of Lactaid (you've been warned). Our only two disappointments were that the pot of tea was not left on the table, so sometimes we waited with empty cups until the server came around again; and that not enough serving silverware came with the honey, jam, cream, etc. if you are trying not to double dip, contaminate with gluten scone crumbs, etc. You have to ask for the restroom key if you are not staying in the hotel. The decorations were spectacular with an 8000 foot Christmas tree, a custom William Penn gingerbread house and enough Christmas decorations to embarrass Santa. That service and wait staff at the Terrace Room are also amazing. Each customer there was provided with the most wonderful service. My daughter and I never really had to ask for anything because our waitstaff was completely on top of everything. Now onto a review of the actual tea itself. My daughter and I make it our mission to attend afternoon tea in as many cities as possible and Pittsburgh is no exception. The Queens tea is priced at $55 per person and includes light tea sandwiches, scones, various dessert items and various teas. My daughter and my major complaint is the fact that our courses were served in stages instead of all that once, which would allow us to determine what order and how we wanted to eat our afternoon tea. Additionally, we were not happy about not being able to select the teas that we wanted to drink. For example, we were served an Earl Grey, Darjeeling and Rooibos teas. The teas were delectable however, we didn't get a chance to select our own teas which would've given us greater enjoyment of our meals. Additionally, even for a tea, the items were microscopically small. I'm talking one bite might cover half of the tip of your tongue... Would, I attend High Tea at the Terrace Room again? I would because of the atmosphere and the ability to be treated to a wonderful experience.

The food was just insanely delicious and the service was amazing. I mean ending the night with that candy cart is just genius. It's pretty low cost for the restaurant but such a fun photo opp and nostalgic box to take home. This was probably the most expensive meal I've ever had, so I'm also really glad it was the best. Starting with the bread service the olive oil, honey, and butter were amazing. It was hard to restrain myself from eating a ton of it. The corn custard, scallops, and pierogi were delicious, but that wagyu beef, so freaking delicious. It came with a steak sauce where you mix the quail egg into it. Yum! It was just the best beef dish I have ever had. I can say enough good things about it. The kombucha pallet cleanser was also adorable before dessert. They think so much about the fun and whimsy of the presentation here, it just makes it that much more memorable. The posset for dessert, (their signature dessert) was beautiful and delicious as well. The wine pairing was spot on and I enjoyed every glass. The champagne tasting they also offer was pretty tempting, but also a bit more pricey than what I needed to tack on to an already expensive bill. My only complaint was the $10 small cup of coffee. Like they could have at least left the pot on the table. It just felt a little overkill to me when you already are spending $350 on the meal, maybe include the coffee. The singer was also a lovely touch to the meal. She had a beautiful voice and could sing everything from pop songs to opera. Super impressive! Nonetheless, smacked dab in the emptiness of the Southside lies a hidden gem called Cafe du Jour! With a brightly lit outside, this little restaurant is nestled in between 2 vacant buildings, but that doesn't take away from its charm. Inside, the restaurant is very small and only has about 10 to 15 tables. The kitchen is small and right up front. There is an outside patio with a beautiful wall waterfall, which was obviously closed for the winter. I got a sneak peek, however. Its just so charming inside. Apparently, the menu changes seasonally and most likely even more frequently than that, which is just one of the many reasons to keep coming back for more! Here's what my friend and I tried: [Goat Cheese Fritter]: The flavors in this appetizer were phenomenal. The goat cheese fritter was the star of the show, but it so easily paired well with purple cabbaged beets and roasted pepper fondue. All the flavors meshed perfectly together. [Focaccia]: There was a tomato focaccia with a Bourbon black garlic spread that was so delicious. The focaccia was soft yet crisp and the spread gave a well rounded dynamic to the dish. [Mushrooms]: I don't like mushrooms but these were amazingly seasoned and seared. I loved the burrata and baguette which accompanied the dish. [Stuffed Chicken]: I can't say enough good things about this chicken. It was perfectly cooked and stuffed with goat cheese, roasted red peppers, and a mushroom duxelles. All the flavors were exquisite and had me eating the entire dish. The butternut squash puree and smashed potato were delicious beyond belief. [Short Rib]: You could cut this rib with a fork. It just fell off the bone. The orzo that came with the dish was deliciously seasoned. [Flourless Chocolate Torte]: I don't normally like a lot of chocolate so this wasn't my favorite. There was also an almond whip cream on top that I didn't care for. [Pumpkin Praline Cheesecake]: This was so so so good. It was sweet but in the best way. The praline added a saltiness to the dessert. It was just all around amazing! I must say that this place was one of the best restaurants I tried this year.
