Salmon roll and Yama roll
Olivia A.

The best sushi in Pittsburgh. I consistently go back here because the sushi is phenomenal, service is so quick, staff is very nice, and the restaurant is always clean and busy. The fish is always fresh, which is hard to come by here. I always go for the Yama Roll which is very unique and hits every craving! FYI Beaver is a dry town, so it is BYOB.

Disappointing sushi....not what was advertised. (Advertised/prior review photos look nothing like this). Disgusting at best.

0/10 Do Not Recommend The food looks amazing in the highlighted photos from years ago. The reviews appear great. Not sure what has happened, but we received nothing near the advertised quality. First, we were awkwardly seated in the worst table possible. On a Saturday night with only 2 other tables of 2 in the whole restaurant. Our table was enclosed on 3 sides, right beside the door, encased in glass. I could stand and touch each wall if I extended my arms, it felt like being in a sales display. This left my husband and I in the uncomfortable position of who sits in the box, and who has their back to the entire restaurant...with blinking neon signs in the background. Totally not awkward or distracting. After our tepid greeting, we were provided with sticky, gross menus. Decided we should maybe stick a roll or 2, see how the fish was (We didn't think the nigiri would be a good option with their level of cleanliness, including the fruit flies). Safe to say we were far from impressed. The fish did not seem fresh, or anywhere near the quality advertised. The rolls and/or the fish itself was drenched in an overbearing amount of sauce or other ingredients to cover the hero of the show; the fish itself. The gyoza was ok, although a few pieces were a bit burnt. Figured cooked food might be a better option and therefore tried the pork katsu. The sauce was unimpressive, but the pork itself was EXTREMELY dry. Almost like it was precooked and fried again, regardless we both felt immediately uncomfortable after a tiny piece. Trying to send it back was another ordeal....apparently with at least 6-8 people working in a now empty restaurant, we were not as important to them as playing on their phones and closing up shop an hour early. They were particularly rude about us wanting to return something inedible, and we had to offer to pay for the complimentary miso soup which came with the dish (we did eat it as it was served before the katsu). I hope the $2.50 for the soup was worth it. After this experience, that was the last straw. We will never return, nor do we recommend this place to anyone. ETA 6/21: was just left a lovely "compliment" by Mr. Wang marked as "You're funny". Apparently coming in at 8:30 when they close at 10 was some kind of excuse about their service. Was told their pork is "fresh". Good for them, you can still overcook fresh pork and make it dry.. We apparently should have asked to move tables (hard to do when they're already cleaning up and putting chairs up) and made other complaints. However, the single complaint we made about the pork katsu was received with....less than stellar customer service and resulted in people yelling at each other across the restaurant. I tried calling to discuss this "compliment" and suggest they work on their customer service based on examples we experienced. This was not taken well whatsoever by Mr. Wang who told us we don't need to come back after constantly talking over me. Their issue with constructive criticism and feedback is more than likely part of why they were so empty on a Saturday night. A proprietor should do their best to smooth things over, not make them worse. In no way did they address our discomfort, the cleanliness of the restaurant nor their other food. Apparently they are only focused on the katsu. Not very "funny" in my opinion.

Dining Area post-Renovation October 2023

I am lucky enough to be in proximity to eat at this divine sushi bar often. And since this gem just completed a sparkling renovation, I think it's a good time to update my review for a current experience. Costs for restaurants across the board have risen, and the prices here have increased but not exponentially and it's still a great value. The fish is fresh and top quality; those two constants have thankfully remained the same. As have the large portion sizes of their from-the-kitchen dishes. The visibly hard-working staff is always without fail providing friendly top-notch service (Tip: They close for a daily afternoon break). The new lighting and flooring has given the open space a modern feel. Come check it out!

I been here twice both times excellent! Very good and fresh food! The place is clean and the customer service is great! I would come back for sure!

I hadn't been here in years. My brother and I went yesterday for lunch. They have a lunch special from 11a-3p. He ordered two rolls and I ordered the sashimi deluxe lunch, which was 9pc of sashimi. I ordered two of them and white tuna a la cart and octopus a la cart. Everything came out timely. She forgot I ordered a second sashimi lunch, so I had to ask for it again. The salad was delicious and fresh, the dressing light. I liked the salad. The sashimi here was pretty small and thinly sliced. I didn't know it would be a sliver of octopus for $7. That's too much for what you get. Though everything was fresh, it was all very small. My sister wanted a rainbow roll. It was one of the smallest rolls I've ever seen. Probably won't be back for a while. Not impressed.

We had a wonderful lunch at Yama last week. I ordered three rolls and soup. One roll was to split with my husband. He ordered the lunch sushi platter. Everything was really good and fresh! It was a little expensive lunch but it was worth it for the amount of food you got

Sushi and sashimi lunch so good!

Yama is the real deal ! The service is friendly and attentive. Great place for date night or a relaxing lunch with friends. I have been getting sushi here for years and the value and quality is still amazing. The sushi is melt in your mouth good! The tropical salad is lite and refreshing and made up of huge pieces of crab meat , mango, and a yummy cucumber slaw. I know people who never cared for sushi until they tried Yama!

I would possibly order sushi take out but probably not come back here. We ordered sushi and hibachi. The steak and shrimp was way over cooked and the rice was gummy and flavorless. We started with calamari - I have never seen such thick cut rings. They were also really heavily breaded. They actually looked like onion rings. They were tasty, but not what we were expecting. We also ordered the Volcano appetizer which was seared Ahi and it was really yummy but a bit too saucy. And finally, the bathroom was disgusting which makes me wonder about what else is unclean. I will say the servers were really attentive.

Nobu and PA roll

Honestly not going to bother rating these individually because everything was INCREDIBLE. Super impressed and happy with this spot in Beaver. The server was also very attentive (almost too attentive) but out drinks never even got close to being empty. Would definitely recommend this place and will % be back!

Best place around for sushi in the Beaver County area. Always consistent, and their lunch menu deals are very reasonable priced.

I asked our waiter if the portion size of chirashi was good and he said it's a good size and that they have carry out boxes if I don't finish. Tell me why this was the smallest chirashi I have ever seen anywhere. The slices of fish were thinner than the sliced ginger. If you stacked all of the slices, it would make a normal size of one piece of nigiri. The slice of tuna was so thin, you could see through it, much less taste it. I was still starving after and got the fried chicken nuggets which were a good portion, with good crunch. The sauce on the chicken was devoid of flavor except for the SALT. They were even able to take the chicken flavor away from the meat which is kind of an accomplishment in itself. My friend got the Sichuan pork dumplings and the dumplings were drowning in soy sauce so much so that you couldn't taste the Sichuan spice (if there was any). There's a sushi restaurant nearby that gives me food poisoning every time I eat there and I would have much rather have eaten there than Soba. I would definitely recommend this place to my enemies because they'll leave broke and still hungry.

I wouldn't really call this a supper club to be honest but the place definitely carries a house music bar vibe and the back bar area and seating is very dimly lit, perfect for cozying up and enjoying a drink late night. The ladies' room was so dark, I mistook it for a storage area because I could only make out a white ladder in the corner that was being used as cute shelving. The place is seat yourself. Our waiter was not super friendly and didn't offer to give us napkins or anything when our wobbly table caused our drinks to splash all over the place. The cook served our chicken with a big smile and happy interaction and we really loved his personality. The bartender also stopped by to bus our table and he was very pleasant as well. We enjoyed the perfectly fried small plate cauliflower with the plum sauce and the fried cheese/garlic wonton bites with the sriracha mayo spicy dipping sauce. The fried chicken breast on the large plate was slightly overcooked with a maple gochuchang sauce that was very bland. We were so thankful that the large plate fried chicken came with a side salad to offer some respite from the heaviness of the fried dishes. It would have been great to have some side acidic or fresh vegetable options like Kimchi or something. Maybe we tried the wrong dishes and there are other not fried things that are delicious? The dirty martini cocktail was just so-so, not really much flavor at all, but the mojito was very good and refreshing. It's probably a good late-night place for a bite and drink.

For our most recent visit, here are my ratings for what we ate: Sushi and Sashimi for 2 - 5 stars - This gorgeous sushi boat contained 10 pieces of chef's choice sushi, 18 pieces of chef's choice sashimi, and 2 rolls--Dragon Roll (eel, cucumber, and avocado) and Volcano Roll (batter-fried mixed fish and avocado with house-special sauce and tobiko/roe). They all tasted delicious. Hibachi Steak - 5 stars - The steak was juicy and flavorful, and it came with fried rice, soup, salad, and two pieces of shrimp. The ginger dressing was very light and zesty and not so much peanut-flavored like you typically get. The miso soup was very rich and savory. As for the entrée, the Bento box had the red curry chicken with vegetables, spring roll with plum sauce, rice, and some sushi. Everything in the box was fresh, quality ingredients. I especially liked the crispy spring roll (not greasy and had great flavor). The sushi didn't miss either. For the red curry, was milder than I was expecting and would have liked a little more pepper spice to it. But it was still pretty good. The hot tea I ordered didn't taste like typical hot tea; something almost earthy and nutty about it, but it was delicious. The people working at the restaurant were gracious and speedy with the service (it's a family business which is always good to see). They quoted me 15 mins and the food was ready at that time. I walked in and paid with a card and was in and out within a minute. The food was still hot by the time I got it home. The wonton soup only comes in a smaller pint version and I'm used to a quart size. So, I was a little disappointed by that. However, the soup was delicious. It had a dark and flavorful broth. The vegetable rolls were definitely more reminiscent of spring rolls, but still delicious. They didn't curb my craving for an egg roll, though. The general tsos came with white rice and the entree was musky spicy, crunchy, and served with broccoli and carrot slices. I enjoyed the flavor of the sauce and thought the portion size was fair for the price.
