We stopped by the other day on a Thursday around 5pm. We started the meal with their yakitori. They were so flavorful and I'm obsessed with their pork belly one! The sushi was delicious and their torch sushi lunch special is a steal. We ended the meal with ramen and the lobster ramen was stunning and the ramen overall was a perfect hearty and comforting meal! The inside is on the smaller side with a small bar, small sushi bar, and a few tables and booths. I thought our food came out pretty quickly and the staff gave really good recommendations! Review is for pick up via Uber Eats. Nut free for all dishes I ordered. Food travelled surprisingly well in 25F Pittsburgh weather. Portions are extremely generous and the miso soup was still hot after walking ~15 minutes. We ordered the JD1 Japanese Beef Curry Don, the JD2 Japanese Curry Katsu Don, and thought that might not be enough so we also had the Y2 Fish Yumich. Ended up not touching the Yumich at all (which is kind of like a taco, but wrapped in seaweed) since the portions were so generous on the Don dishes. The curry was a great balance of spice and intensity. The beef was tender. The Katsu was just crispy enough. There were tons of vegetables underneath the meat and curry to mix with rice that was a little watery compared to other curry don I've had, but not overly salty. This made up for the plain rice by letting you mix easily with the curry. Overall, phenomenal value for decent Japanese dishes. read more

The sushi was fresh & delicious. The service was friendly and good. They give you a nice big bottle of water, which was nice on a hot day. They have bubble tea if you like that and will serve them without the bubbles if you're not a bubble tea fan. It's very out of the way, so I doubt we'll return, but we recommend it. read more

There were two different rolls and several sashimi. The starting edemame, can't really mess up. The miso soup was good, as was the homemade ginger salad dressing. The selections were fresh, however next time we will try more of a variety of rolls. The ones served were not enough to fairly judge. As someone who's hometown is on an island I was wary of finding good sushi in Pittsburgh. However, Sushi Too never ceased to amaze me. Not only do they have delicious sushi, their prices are amazing. I am addicted to their shrimp tempure and could eat a Tri color crunchy roll forever. It is my favorite plqce to go eat both for the food and the setting. Could not have chosen a better spot! It was a friend's birthday, on a Monday night with a group of 8, we were hesitant where we could go for sushi around Shadyside and ended up choosing Sushi Too. I called ahead to be sure we could fit and when we arrived they led us into the back where we essentially had our own party room. The service could not have been any better. They were so so nice and fast to bring out our food and clear off the table. Our server even helped us do our saki bombs. And of course, the food was amazing. I have only ever gotten take out, but the presentation of all of our plates were beautiful as well as the fantastic taste. The only thing to mention is that if you order salmon nigiri, be sure to say if you want it raw or not because it came out cooked. After a nice workout my friend and I decided to grab some food in Shadyside. I have not been to Sushi Too in a really long time and had an appointment on Walnut at 8:30 so it kinda worked out perfectly. When you walked in you were greeted warmly and led right to a table. It was not packed in the restaurant but it had more people inside than I expected for a Monday at seven. The waitress came over and asked about drinks but I opted just for water, if I just worked out I better try to be a little bit healthy throughout my meal. While looking at the menu I was particularly interested in the fact that they had lunch boxes. I think that a little bento lunch box at a reasonable price is really the way to go for a quick and easy take-out lunch. I put that in the back of my head as maybe lunch spot for later. I was interested in the sushi donuts on the menu. But I think it was more for the idea of me ordering a sushi donut not for anything else more than that. I think that it was just sushi in the shape of a donut. The prices weren't bad, around $9-15 dollars per donut, but it just was not what I was looking for and I would have wanted to share it not really get it for myself, it looked a little much. It was a colder day so I opted for the wonton soup to warm myself before we picked out our meals. I will say that this is where they started to lose me. I am a sucker for wonton soup. I order it at almost every place that has it looking for my favor broth and wonton combo. The broth here was not good at all. It, to me, tasted like salt. I mean that honestly, deer in the woods licking a salt lick, salt. That is the very image that popped into my head as I was trying to enjoy the soup. It was hard to get through and I had to drink a lot of water that night. The wontons were ok. I would say that they had a nice stuffing of chicken and seafood and the meat consistency and flavor was good. But the broth.... I do not think that I could make myself drink that or even go through that again. My friend then for her before dinner snack ordered the vegetable gyoza. I had one of the little dumplings and they were pretty good. I have never had a strictly vegetable gyoza so this was an experience. It still tasted good as any semi fried/steamed dumpling would and the dipping sauce made it extra delightful. I would order this again, especially if there were any meat issues within the group that I was with. For my main course I ordered the house special roll "dragon roll". It is my go to for all sushi. I love eel and avocado. It was wrapped perfectly and had a nice smokey eel taste to it. A perfect amount of wasbi was put on the plate. I would ask for my ginger for the next time, but overall the presentation and the taste was very good. I would get this again because it tasted fresh and it was a tight roll that didn't give way when dipped in soy sauce. Yum. I also ordered on the side the two piece of sashimi that was just two pieces of tuna over a rice roll. I got this to go for my partner to eat but then he already ate so I took it to lunch the next morning. YUM! What a nice filling little lunch treat. It stayed fresh and tasted very good. So if you have to keep your sashimi on hold for a bit, just know it will stay good for just a day. I liked it here. I would like more opportunity to explore the menu, but I can say that it was A-Ok in my book. Try it out, maybe you will like it too. read more

Well this is unfortunate especially during these times. It was just that bad and for the price I could have gone to Whole Foods and got way better Sushi. So I got the tempura avocado which was okay lack of presentation and the sauce that accompanied it wasn't very great if anything made the dish soggy. I then got Maki Combo 28.00 three different sushi rolls. Now on the menu it doesn't give you description of the sushi. You can guess what some are and some you won't know unless you ask. So this combo came with Cooked shrimp which was okay but wow was it cut huge. I barely was able to eat in one bite. Then was the spicy tuna which lacked flavor at all. What made me so disgusted with the whole experience and I usually love is eel. This eel was so salty that it wasn't palatable the sauce which was just dumped in hopes to hide that didn't help. It came with six pieces I tried it twice, second time without soy sauce to make sure I was not jumping to conclusions. It was definitely poor quality product gross gross gross. I love a sushi bar that's open because you know everything being made is fresh! They also have a regular bar which is rare at many sushi places. our friendly waitress brought us edamame on the house which I thought was awesome and delicious! I ordered the Big Omg T Roll and the Crunchy Tri Colored Roll and my only dilemma was that I couldn't decide which one I liked better! Such fresh, excellent flavors. We suspect a change in ownership as all the staff was unfamiliar to us -- but they denied this. We recommend Kiku (Station Square) for a more satisfying and authentic experience -- and look forward to trying Golden Gai (Bakery Square), which is opening soon. read more

I absolutely love the salmon teriyaki from Sushi too. So much so that I've ordered it on the weekend for 3 consecutive weekends. It's a little pricey but the portion size is good. The salmon teriyaki dish also comes with a side of miso soup. Good combination. The saltiness of the miso soup balances out the sweet teriyaki sauce. Besides the salmon teriyaki, I've also tried some of the sushi and they were good, good given Pittsburgh standards considering the fact that there is no ocean or sea close by. I've always had a pleasant experience at Sushi Too. They have lots of different options on their menu, but I always get the cupcake sushi, which is the reason I'm writing this review. It's pretty awesome. I remember when I first told some friends about it, they were hesitant to try it and maybe a little grossed out, but I assure you, there are no actual cupcake ingredients in the cupcake sushi. The way I gauge a sushi place is by ordering my favorite go-to item: Chirashi. It's supposed to be a bowl of sushi rice (meaning seasoned vinegared rice) with an assortment of scattered toppings including fish. The reason I do this is multi-fold: 1) it gives me an idea of what their sushi rice is like (which is what sushi actually is -- the vinegared rice); 2) I get to taste the ingredients separately; 3) I get some variety when I'm feeling indecisive. Based on what I received this place clearly failed. I should have been suspicious when I saw the kitschy items like "sushi doughnuts" but I figured it can't be that hard to make good sushi rice and have some fish and other items. And it definitely wasn't because I ordered delivery. Now, the fish wasn't bad. Its texture and smell were fine. (Side note: I have to laugh about all the folks on yelp being like "ugh you can't have fresh sushi in a place like PGH" when the FDA guidelines state that any fish besides tuna has to be frozen to be free of parasites. But I digress). They were definitely smaller than I'd seen before, but for the price I'm not shocked. I was very disappointed there was no roe, no seaweed salad, no veggies. But this isn't even the biggest sin of this order... no... Not only was the sushi rice warm (and completely unseasoned save for maybe a quick dash of some sesame)... the toppings were served separate. Maybe, just maybe it was an off night and the poor soul left to make my order didn't know what the heck chirashi was. I get they didn't want my fish to get warmed up in transport. But that's the thing -- the rice isn't supposed to be hot. Basically it looked like someone threw some rice into a container then assembled a weak-sauced sashimi platter. Maybe if you're looking for some of those monstrosities that are deep fried and covered in sauce this might be the place for you. And won't lie, sometimes I indulge in such things myself. And I can at least say the fish is acceptable. But if you're going for more simple and/or traditional fare, this isn't for you. read more
