Really bizarre (and rude/unprofessional). I called to ask about balloon prices, and Moe (or an employee) immediately began berating me, asking why I was calling over and over. Then, he hung up on me. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt and assume that he was frustrated because the inquirer he confused me with was deaf/ annoying, but it was a really offputting interaction when I was having a great afternoon and just wanted to buy some balloons for a friend's birthday. Anyhow, Party Heaven sells balloons for $1.50 with helium. I have no idea how much they cost at Moe's, for aforementioned reasons. read more

I have never felt the need to write a review before, but I just had the most ridiculous phone experience with this shop that I thought I should share. I called the phone number, and a man picked up and said "hello." I asked if this was in fact Moe's Flower Shop, and the man started to ask me who I was and why I was calling. I shared my name and said that I was looking for a flower shop. He goes "excuse me sir, you are the one who is calling me and withholding information. what is it you want?" I told him I wanted to deliver some hydrangea flowers to my girlfriend, and he said "no, we can't do that." I asked if this was in fact a flower shop and he started questioning me, asking where I was calling from, if I was a UC student, and what I wanted. Eventually, after I read out loud the number I had dialed (the number listed on Yelp) he said I had the wrong number. I don't understand - was this man a proprietor of a flower shop or not? It seemed like he was trying to decide whether or not I was worth his flower shop business, and then chose 'no.' What a shyster. Avoid at all costs. read more

REALLY terrible experience!! I've ALWAYS been a fan of Moe's beautiful flowers and I wanted to give him business instead of ordering graduation leis from Hawaii. So I just went in with a smile, expecting the friendliness I've always seen from Moe and asked him about graduation leis. He quoted a pre-order price that was higher than what I found elsewhere, but I didn't have a problem with that since he gave me good deals in the past. Just to make conversation, I mentioned that I considered ordering online, and before I even finished my sentence, he turned crazy-furious. He said " You online people, you are not my customers, NO. I don't want your business" He literally threw me out of the shop! So be VERY careful about starting conversation with this man. I'm never going back there again. read more

I have never felt so insulted in my life. My family and I walked over to take a look at the flowers for my mother, and the florist was closing shop. And when we started to walk away, he was like "No no I am open." So, we walked in. Then, he asked us if we were looking for something. And when my father said that we were just looking around, the man said, "If I am closed, I am closed" and promptly kicked us out and closed the door on us. The bottom line: all he cares about is his own profit. Otherwise, he has no manners nor respect. Absolutely no professionalism. Backstory: I found out about a friend's graduation about 30 minutes before visiting this flower shop, and happened to be in town. My friend said she was going to leave not only graduation, but Berkeley, within 20 minutes. (Keep in mind, I still have to walk/run to the destination - Campanile.) So, I thought I would stop by here really quickly to pick up flowers. I've been here maybe three times before. When I arrived, there was a good two minutes before the next party after me arrived. By then, I had given the man my budget / request. Very clear cut, no ambiguity as to "who was here first" or anything like that. When it was supposed to be my turn, he started to help out two ladies who arrived after I did. I assumed this would not take long, so I let it happen for about another 2-3 minutes. Nervously, I was constantly checking my phone. Yet he still did not start my order - running around the shop to pick out specific flowers for the ladies' order, and explaining each flower. I respect that he takes the time to explain the flowers...but come on. I'm in a rush, and I got there first! It was at this moment that I had two options: leave now, or miss seeing my friend. The choice was clear, since the flowers were for her, anyways. So I said "Excuse me, I really need to go. Sorry, but I don't have time." and started to walk away. What I heard next was shocking and appalling. "Yes, go. I don't need your money. Just go, I don't care!" This is the type of service I receive for being a past patron, patient until he pushed the boundaries, and somewhat polite for providing a heads-up instead of just waltzing off. His next few words were insinuating about how I am impatient (even though I stood there in silence for minutes before calmly explaining that I had to leave) and irresponsible (he explicitly assumed I was late, even though I just found out about this opportunity to see my friend). Sorry, buddy. Insulting people off of naive assumptions isn't going to help your case! I decided to stay* because he hurriedly started to make my order (while saying "it literally takes 2 minutes" - so why couldn't you do that in the first place), which did end up looking quite nice (this is why I've put 2 stars instead of 1). All the while I was doing my best to be the bigger person and apologizing, even though I was convinced that I should not have been the one apologizing. Not to mention, during this entire process, the ONLY sentence he let me finish was my order. I find it rather ironic that he "doesn't need my money", yet starts treating me nicer when I decide to stay, and he hurries to make my bouquet - which would have been fast and easy had he actually gone in order. This was my fourth time here, and likely my last. There are many other vendors, especially during this season, that will likely provide much better service. I guess it's good that he "doesn't need my money", because he won't be having any of it in the future. I really can not say enough good things about Moe. I've been going to Moe's for more than 10 years. As a student,I shopped quite regularly purchasing a couple hundred dollars worth of flowers at least four times a year for a student group I was in. I was so satisfied that I have referred many friends, family, and colleagues over the years and all have had great experiences. I even still get my mom flowers here for special occasions. She loves his work. He arranges the the most beautiful sprays I have seen. He has an artist's eye. And he has the best selection in the East Bay, I have not seen a store as well stocked as his. Also, he often undercharges or gives me an extra something on top of my order. He is a great guy! I have noticed that some people have negative reviews and I think I understand why. So, I thought I would offer some advice on how to be a good customer/shopper at Moe's. These are not rules just things I see potentially bothersome to a florist. 1) Moe is a great guy, who works really hard to run a great business. That often means working A LOT. So, give him some lead time. I usually would drop by or call in advance and let him know my budget, how many bouquets I would need, and when I would need them. I also tried to show up a little early to pick them up just in case and he seemed to appreciate the waiting patiently. Around Mother's Day, Graduations, and Valentine's things of course seem busier, so the earlier the better. 2) DO Tell him what the occasion is, your budget, and an idea of what you have in mind (color/size/style etc). As mentioned above, Moe is an artist, and flowers are his pallet. He does not disappoint. 3) Don't ask how much every. single. flower. costs. Moe will work with your budget. If you explain 'I'm seeing this new person and I want something romantic for $10' he will set you up well. Just trust. He is not the kind to rip anyone off and there are often a lot of people in the store . Chances are, if he is helping another customer he does not have time to list his inventory. 4) DO NOT manhandle the flowers. If you are inquiring about stems, point to them. You would not want broken stems and bruised buds in your bouquet and neither does anyone else. The exception might be if you talk to Moe about your budget and he suggests a few varietals and he says to pick out the stems you want. 4) DO NOT combine 3 and 4. Nothing seems to bother Moe more than people touching all of his flowers and being really cheap or haggling. I anything Moe seems to reciprocate his customers manners. Friendly patient people get a friendly generous Moe. I hope this helps and that another generation of folks learn to appreciate Moe and his magic. read more

The greatest thing about Moe's is that you can say, "I'd like to get an arrangement for $20!" and soon after, with Edward Scissorhand's-like precision, you get a bouquet that looks as if it cost 5 times that amount. Every arrangement I've gotten here is so stunning that I've even purchased the occasional bouquet for myself because it doesn't cost very much to have so much beauty in your home for a week+. There's a reason this is the most popular spot for commencement bouquets and it's not because of it's proximity to Cal. I wasn't aware of this, and his door was open- rather than give me the sass he probably wanted to- he was cheerful and helped make my self indulgence special by nearly doubling my order of sunflowers - no extra charge. Went into Moe's to buy a nice arrangement for my mom's bday. Doors were open and no sign stating closed were apparent. He said he was closed and that he only could sell to me if I knew what I wanted. He was extremely rude to me and to another customer inquiring about purchasing a plant. Why would you leave the doors open if you were closed and not want to make money from customers? On top of this, his product is extremely old, blown open, and over priced. I used to work at the wholesale and retail level so I know. I have very mixed feelings about buying flowers here because of the owner's behavior. The first time I came here to buy a bouquet of sunflowers for my apartment, Moe was incredibly friendly and accommodating. The next time I came here, he gave me a long and berating lecture about the flower business after I asked him how much a lei was, and was yelled at while paying for two bouquets of flowers. When I asked about an online ordering system, I received a long lecture about how he hates online ordering. A supposed to be 20 min call tops turned into about an hour. I understand that he is a mom and pop shop but coming from outside of California, I was unsure what the leis would look like. Anyway he consistently started to berate me for asking such a question and stated that he didn't want my business if I was so concerned about online ordering. Moe never lets me down. I've come many a times when he's super busy, and he never disappoints with his fresh arrangements and bouquets. I've been one to call when he's closing and he's stayed an extra hour for me to pickup a bouquet! I find it best to let him know how much you want to spend total, and what flowers you are looking to put into a bouqet. He'll work his magic and also make your price point! I always make sure to tip him an extra $2-$3 everytime because he gives me such a great deal on the flowers every time. Moe is so adorable! Unlike other florists around the Cal campus, he actually seems to enjoy what he does, and he shares his enthusiasm for flowers with you. One time I was there, he wanted to show me a praying mantis he found on one of the flowers. I've come here to get graduation bouquets and borrow vases for school events, and Moe is always handy with suggestions. That's pretty helpful for a person whose vocabulary about flowers consists of "leaf," "petal," "thingy," and "pretty"! Not only are prices at Moe's are also much cheaper than the place next to Urban Outfitters on Bowditch, and better than the place on Dwight/Telegraph. It's $25 for a regular graduation lei, and around $15 for a small bouquet. All the stores give you ribbons and cellophane for your bouquets, but only Moe wraps it with a cheery flourish and wishes you a good day. I truly think: Moe is a lovely man who genuinely just wants to give you some flowers. We're so busy nowadays that even buying flowers becomes a task on our check-list of things to do. Story: I chanced upon his store during my freshman year at Cal, and conveniently walked in because I lived in Unit 3. He gave me a free sunflower and a smile. Been going back ever since, and he's always been great (with a free flower thrown in there every so often SCORE). What he offers: He sells most every flower you could think of, plus vases if you need them, plus balloons and other fun things like that. Moe never hesitates to spend two extra minutes to wrap up your flower with some baby's breath, clear wrap, and a pretty ribbon. For those of you complaining that he's cranky: You probably right. But that's probably because he's just trying to run a small flower store, and would rather sell you a flower face to face. If you're in a hurry, I guess don't come here. I called moe the day before I needed a flower pickup for my wedding. Day before! We had a mishap with where we were originally getting flowers and his flower shop was in the area. He was joking with me on the phone, had a great sense of humor (which I can see how it can be misread reading some of the other posts on here) and even accommodated me at the price range I was hoping for. It's rare this day and age to find a truly passionate person who loves their job and puts service before anything, Moe embodies exactly this. He got me a fantastic deal, the bouquet he chose was beautiful, and his ideas made my girlfriend's valentines day gift really special. He treats his customers like they are the only customers he's working for, and does everything to personalize their experience. Living far away and trusting in a business unseen is a long shot, but Moe made it easy. I had worked with Moe for a work related purchase of 50 succulents. Moe's prices are reasonable for the outstanding quality of the succulents he sells. They are healthy, long lasting, and aesthetically beautiful compared to the very short lifespan of ones that you would purchase in bulk from online. I called Moe ahead of time to let him know I was going to pick up the succulents and transport the bulk amount in my car. I ended up utilizing my longboard, and upon arrival, Moe quickly worked to help repackage the succulents so I can carry them easily. He was very creative in being able to manipulate cardboard boxes with scissors and tape to make a two tiered box with secure handles made from tape so I could easily carry it while skating back to work. I am extremely impressed by the quality of service that I've received from every time I've made work-related or personal purchases. The succulents were given away at a work-related event that occurred later that day, and the attendees absolutely loved the plants! read more

She YELPS a florist in the area where her friend lives. Um, girl realizes it is 7:03pm and most florists are done and closed. Girl calls 4 florists before reaching Moe's. A nice man answers and empathizes with girl's car accident and neck pains. Man nicely says he would be more than happy to deliver friend's to BFF's family's house saying sorry for missing the dinner. I was shocked at my experience here. My friend is graduating and I wanted to get her some flowers. I'm not exactly an expert in flowers, so I thought I'd walk in and figure something out after talking to the owner. When I walked in, the owner asked what I want and I responded I was looking for a flower to get my friend for graduation and I started looking around at his flowers. I wasn't set on getting a single flower, I just wanted to be vague until I knew my options. He proceeded to yell at me, mostly a bunch of nonsense, something about getting one flower was idiotic, 'it's summer and I'll just go and lose the flower', 'we don't have any business together', 'I walk in and I don't even know what I want'. My friend thought he was joking, and I was so confused by it that I stood there for about a minute, and this owner just kept on throwing insults. Then we walked out without a word. Can't use fire to put out fire. Perhaps he has some good flowers in there, I probably won't ever know. But I'm sorry he's so miserable and that he's so quick to spread all his negativity to others like that. It was my gf's birthday. Well maybe not really. It was the day we were holding her birthday dinner at fancy pants Fleur de Lys in SF. I felt that I needed to get her some flowers. So I look around, find several places that are close enough and have good ratings on Yelp. So off I went to Moe's. I wasn't let down. I actually got there when another guy was getting some flowers for his gf as well. We chatted a bit while the guy (I'm going to guess ..... Moe?) walks around making the other guys bundle. He swears by Moe's. Its the go to place for him. I'm sold. I stay and wait. I tell Moe my situation and my price range. He walks around and picks a buttload of flowers, which he is somehow able to combine together like Tetris pieces. I walk away with a ginormous bouquet. Just bought my grad lei there! I'm super excited! Moe is super nice, and I think his prices are really reasonable. One of his regulars walked in while I was placing my order, and she professed "Moe's is the best". He might have went a little overboard with the "overselling", but if I wasn't convinced about buying a lei before talking to him, I was definitely into buying one after he explained that his lei's have four flowers per row! I think I might just be overly excited about this. His arrangements always seem to be beautiful; my friend swears his $5 dollar bouquets are the best. But if you're in a rush, very picky with your flower arrangement, or don't like small talk...I'm not sure if this is the place for you. SERVICE/VIBE: Moe will be the one who makes you the bouquet. Very outgoing personality and will definitely start up a HUGE conversation with you while putting together a mind blowing arrangement. There's definitely a lot of gloating and he will constantly say that he is the best. Yeah don't say that you've been to other places. Can be quite uncomfortable to some people. Moe is the best! I've been going to him for 5 years. He's very kind, and is always happy to help with all your floral needs. I came in for a graduation lei today, and he had so many ready! There was a special for $20 leis. I was just happy he had so many to choose from. He also had already made bouquets. I overheard a customer wanting to add tulips to a bouquet, and Moe suggested that if tulips were the recipient's favorite, he can make a tulip arrangement instead. His reason was that since the flowers weren't in season, they'll be very pricey. I thought it was great that Moe was helpful, and mindful of his customer's finances. Horrible service. My boyfriend and I went in to look at the selection and as we were looking around the older man asked us if we needed help. We told him we were just looking for now. He responded with what we thought was a joke at first but turned out to just be a rude man with horrible customer service. He said it was a busy time for him and he didn't have time for people to look at his flowers and to leave his shop! He had ONE customer who already had her flowers wrapped and was starting to pay. He continued to lecture us about just looking at his flowers as we left. I have never had such a horrible experience in a store before with such blatant disrespect from a shop owner. I've known Moe for 11 years now. He's my go-to man for graduation bouquets and leis. And he has a VERY good and extensive selection - he once hooked me up with a dozen 'sterling silver' roses for my mom, which are hard to find. And his Columbian roses are big and beautiful. The flowers are fresh and last quite a few days, and if you ask him nicely he'll tell you how they are flown in from exotic places like Columbia and Holland and you'll be amazed. Ask him for his number and you can call in your flowers ahead of time so that you can stroll in and pick them up (especially during busy graduation season). Highly recommended (and I've tried pretty much all the flower shops in Berkeley)! Btw, if you've never bought flowers before, you can just give him a dollar amount you're shooting for, and then if you'd like to add or remove certain blooms, he readily accomodates. I've never had complaints about the flowers I've purchased there. A few times he's yelled at me for buying flowers elsewhere. Once I even called twice because I wasn't sure which flower I wanted to use and he yelled that if I was going to shop around that he didn't want my business...I wasn't shopping around, I was googling the flowers! I really like Moe's. My boyfriend got me a bouquet of lilies for my birthday and I came here to get a vase for them. When I walked in with the flowers, he was helping out a girl who was asking how much certain flowers were. He seemed very frustrated answering all of her questions and when he asked if she wanted to by anything, and she said that he was just asking about prices, he looked incredibly annoyed and exasperated. After he left, he turned to me and shook his head, saying something about how he didn't have the time to deal with people just walking in inquiring about stuff. And then he asked why I was here because I was already holding flowers. When I mentioned that the flowers from from my boyfriend and I needed a vase for them, he was surprisingly nice, asking me where the flowers were from. I told him they were from SF and he said that he could tell they were city flowers and that next time my boyfriend wanted to by flowers, he should call Moe's since they deliver and the prices were cheaper. It was nice how Moe seemed slightly concerned that my boyfriend got tricked into buying more expensive flowers but he was really nice, telling me that boys don't know what they are doing and that he seemed like a really sweet boy for getting me flowers. On top of that, Moe gave me some free daisies and other side flowers and helped me rearrange the bouquet so it looked really beautiful. Thank you Moe! I agree that he shouldn't be talking negatively about his customers to other customers but every time I have been here he has been incredibly nice to me. Never write reviews, but i am so touched by Moe's generosity and kindness. My rommmate and I went in looking to buy a bouquet of roses for our other rommate's birthday. We had no idea what color or what kind of arrangement our rommate would like. Moe was very helpful and made sure that were content with the arrangement he was making for us! He was very professional and obviously knew what he was doing. The finish product consisted of vibrant pink roses, light pink roses, baby breathe, and one beautiful blue rose in the center. Yelp at it's finest! I've been using Moe's Flowers for the last several years. I found them here on Yelp and am extremely satisfied. I've only dealt with Moe over the phone to have him select, arrange and deliver flowers to my wife in Orinda. Moe asks about the occasion so he can create an appropriate arrangement. I've found Moe to be very friendly, reasonably priced and extremely reliable. Most importantly, my wife has always been impressed and satisfied with Moe's arrangements. Once of these days I need to stop by and introduce myself to Moe, thank him in person and return some of the empty glass vases so he can hopefully reuse them. read more

LOVE LOVE LOVE him! He's the best florist nearby and he always has the most reasonable deals! I can always count on him to blow me away with his gorgeous arrangements and amazing prices. He always gives you more than you ask for and never fails to impress. He's a really nice man too and always makes sure you never leave unsatisfied. I love Moe!!!! So I went in the other day after reading all of these yelp reviews to prepare myself. Everyone on here is right! If you go in and tell Moe how much you want to spend, he will make you a GREAT bouquet. I ended up telling Moe about all of these reviews on yelp and all the things people are saying about him (especially how he doesn't like being on the phone). He was so cranky but so delightful. He told me how yelp keeps calling him and he tells them, "Listen, stop calling me or I will hang a huge banner that says 'don't write about me on yelp!'" HILARIOUS!!!! I love this guy!! He also told me how it's hard to run a small business and that he wants to provide people with awesome flowers and not sit behind a desk all day running his business through the internet. He is just a hardworking down to earth guy with gorgeous flowers. In the end he told me that I am funny and that he likes me, score! I will definitely be back. Tips: Like I said, just go in with a price range. Be patient because he is a busy and eccentric. It's worth the hassle for a beautiful cheap bouquet of flowers. read more
