I'm disappointed that this place was such a disappointment. I love anything Cajun, creole, or outta Nola. However this place would make people in the French Quarter cry. After arriving here at 5:35, I was told the wait was going to be about 30 minutes. I said that was fine and put my name down. 30 minutes later, it was another 30 minutes. And then another 10 minutes. We didn't sit down until 7:15. I wish that they had told us the correct time in the first place. We would have gone elsewhere and saved us the headache of waiting an hour and a half for a table for four. It probably wasn't the restaurant's fault because there was a massive party of about 20. There should be a time limit for large parties or they should allow reservations for parties smaller than 6. I did see many parties waiting around for 15 minutes for someone to take their check. The hostesses should learn to give customers more accurate waiting times and servers have to learn to be better about turning tables over. I got the gumbo, the crawfish boil and the oysters. The gumbo was spicy and had a kick to it (which was a nice surprise) but not anything to write home about. The crawfish boil was disgusting. The crawfish had one flavor: salt. There was no sauce. And the corn on the cob it came with was actually cold. Like they had just pulled it out of a fridge cold. What the hell?? The bar was already loud from the people and the music. While we were eating, they decided to turn it up more. I could no longer hold a conversation, even if I tried yelling. My boyfriend had the frog legs with cheddar mashed potatoes which he enjoyed a lot. That is the only thing earning this place an additional star. This is an expensive restaurant. So given the terrible quality and service (and hard to find parking), I definitely won't be back. read more

A fun choice in downtown Plainfield. Interesting decor, friendly, young staff. Food is tasty and their Cajun/Creole choices are decent. Kitchen made a couple mistakes or oversights but our waitress was helpful in resolving what she could. Large menu with something for everyone. Full bar with many New Orleans brands like Turbo Dog beer. The fried chicken had great crunch but was a little dry for us. Jambalaya was very good. The place was packed, even at 7:30 on a Saturday night (which is good for the restaurant) and was still going strong when we left around 9:00 (which may be unusual for some places in Plainfield). Lots of group tables, some with cackling carousers but all good-natured revelry. Don't expect to get a serious conversation in or a quiet intimate meal. It's not that kind of place. They encourage a fun atmosphere so be tolerant of the noise. I'd try it again. We didn't have room for dessert but maybe next time...! read more

Came to Moe Joe's to celebrate my husband's birthday. He grew up on the eastern shore, so seafood is right up his ally and their menu did not disappoint. With that being said, there were a couple upsets, but the food alone will definitely have us coming back for more. Here's my rundown... PROS - Food, food, and food! The menu is a dream. We honestly had such a hard time deciding what to get. It's not often we're at a Cajun restaurant, so we were like kids in a candy store. - The gumbo is amazing! I'm still dreaming about it. My husband and I each got a cup of it and it was super filling and delicious. So much so that we ended up only having 2 drinks each, the calamari app and the cup of gumbo. We so wanted to order more food and really dive into the menu, but we were honestly too full! - They have a skinny cocktail menu! I had the cranberry lemonade drink and it was good. I didn't taste any alcohol though, and it was a little sweet for my taste, but overall a good option (and only 106 cals). - Staff is really friendly. Not necessarily the quickest service, but very nice people to talk to. - On Tuesdays they have comedy night in the downstairs part of the restaurant! - Cool vibe at Moe Joe's! I like the bar/restaurant combo and the New Orleans theme is great. They also have an outdoor patio which is nice. CONS - Unorganized service. When we were finally sat at a table, the air conditioner was leaking on my head...Yeah. Not great. The hostess cleaned off another table for us and we were able to switch, but the bar was unfortunately packed, and that's where we wanted to sit. - It took forever for someone to greet us. We eventually had to flag down a waitress and she just took our table since nobody had yet. - They were out of Gumball head! Everyone on Yelp raved about how they carry Gumball head and they were out of the beer when we were there of course...such a bummer. - The calamari is just okay. We've had better. It took a while for it to get to our table and when it did, we realized we still weren't given any silverware. - The draft beers we ordered were lukewarm. - Hefty bill when we left (but the gumbo was worth it). For 2 cocktails, 2 beers, an app, and 2 cups of gumbo it cost us about $65 (plus tip). I really had higher hopes for Moe Joe's, but maybe it was the B squad working since it was a Monday night. When I hear the word "MoeJoe", I hear the word "thief". Seriously, I forgot my brand new jacket here and 1 of the little server girls took it. I called repeatedly and asked about it, and they kept saying it wasn't found. Ironically, I was complaining about this to one of my friends who had coincidentally left his jacket here the year before. He told me that he kept calling them, insisting to the manager that an employee had clearly stolen it. He finally went back into MoJoe's and alas.. a cook/busser appeared, returned his jacket and apologized. Like, wow. Too bad, they have thieves as employees. The best place to get an Alligator Po' Boy in Plainfield, no wait make that the whole south suburbs. Moe Joe's bills it self as a Cajun/Caribbean eatery but it really only does the Cajun well. The stars of Moe Joe's are the Po' Boys and the Muffaletta. They serve every meal with warm corn bread and awesome mixed butter. The sides are great and they offer sweet potato fries with a delicious dipping sauce. As for the bar, it's rather tiny and can get packed on a weekend. The beer list is great and features many micro brews. The place has a great French Quarter feel and you can always hear a Doors song every half hour (not that that has anything to do with the French Quarter). As a proud food snob that's been to NOLA (both the city and restaurant) many times, I just had one of the 5 greatest meals of my life. My girlfriend and I had Fried Green Peppers and Crawfish Tails for apps. I had a perfect Alligator Fricassee and she had Seafood Jambalaya w/ 5 perefectly med-rare scallops and 5 jumbo gulf shrimp. Maybe I'm less of a crab ass. Or maybe MoeJoe's just got better. The service is still very slow. I'm not sure what it is, but maybe there aren't enough cooks in that kitchen. Just don't come here if you are in a hurry or really, really hungry. Sit down, have a beer, and you'll get an appetite just while waiting. It was a gorgeous day outside, and my dinner plan was originally grilled cheese & tomato soup (hellooo Chiberia!), but of course this was no longer favorable. It was my birthday, so I suggested somewhere nearby for dinner. I couldn't believe I suggested MoeJoe's, but I really was craving a po' boy. The alligator po' boy, as previously mentioned, isn't as good as the others. The fried shrimp po' boy is really, really good. The sandwich is huge, served on garlic French bread with tomatoes, lettuce, spicy remoulade (or a Caribbean sauce), and loaded with lots and lots of fried shrimp. The sweet potato fries here are amazing - another massive portion, and I think they put cinnamon sugar on them. They now have Three Floyd's Gumballhead on tap, that ALONE deserves a star. There's a long cocktail list and several beers available. Monday nights are $1 bottles, but that's domestics only, and doesn't include Bud Lime, so if you're not sure what they deem "domestic," be sure to ask. read more

Wow! been to Mojo at least 5 or more times, today new year eve my wife and I went for dinner about 6pm. no problem getting seated. no problems with the drinks. The dinner on the other hand was not good. My wife got the blacken chicken on the stick and it was dry as hell. I order the jambalaya which I love but man this was bad, chicken was dry, the sausage was well done and the rice i think they dump the cayenne pepper. Not too sure but I ask the waitress if they changed cooks and she said no. I then said is he piss off working New years eve and she laugh. For the $63 on dinner I spent I would have done other options that night if I knew it was going to be that bad. I would hope the next time it is much better but than again It's going to take sometime before i return and take a chance on them. This place is fabulous! My daughter came here a few weeks ago and raved about MoeJoe's so we decided to give it a try last evening with two other friends. Very authentic atmosphere - I felt like I was in the French Quarter. It was a busy Friday night so we waited in the bar for our table (BTW the only downside to the whole evening was the terrible sound system in the bar area which played horrible music with way too much bass). The drinks were good, they have a very creative menu with lots of interesting, and potent choices. Once we sat down we were greeted by our wonderful server, can't remember her name but she was top notch! We started with crawfish arancini - four huge portions that were delicious and very filling (I guess that was the second downside, we were too full to eat all of our main entrees after these so we had lots of leftovers!) We chose several items off the huge menu for dinner - fried catfish, seafood jambalaya, "build your own ka-bobs" and blackened catfish - every dish was outstanding. The side orders are so big, red beans & rice and coleslaw were our selections, but they have many others to choose from. I think the highlight for me (among many we experienced this evening) were the Beignets, a traditional Cajun/Creole dessert. I felt like I was sitting at Cafe du Monde as I was eating it. The only thing missing was chicory coffee but the Starbucks they serve is very good too. I loved MoeJoe's so much I'm contemplating going back this evening to try a po' boy sandwich! read more

I thought it was going to be cheesy, but MoeJoe's turned out to be a really great restaurant. Okay yes, the decor factor does have the "let's throw purple, gold and green beads" on everything look, but the food definitely is the star. I had a cup of the terrapin soup. So good, it had a nice spicy flavor and good texture. I never had turtle so I didn't know what to expect. It created an awkward moment when I came home to my pet turtle though. Let me say his cousins make a damn fine soup. For the main course I ordered the seafood jambalaya. It was great but a little bit on the spicy side (and I like spicy stuff too). To end the meal, I tried the bread pudding. It had to be the better bread puddings I have ate around here. The portion sides are huge. I was able to eat dinner and still have a lot left over for lunch. The servers are extremely friendly and helpful. I never had to wait for a water refill, which is a plus. I've given MoeJoe's 3 chances to prove themselves, and I can't do it anymore. Don't get me wrong, I want to like the place, but the food is not even close. I ordered a shrimp poboy the last time and after having the real thing in New Orleans, this is like eating at White Castle after having a Kobe beef burger. Tiny, maybe frozen shrimp, served greasy, with way too much bread for the sandwich. In New Orleans, they even give you the extra shrimp that won't fit on the bread. The drinks sound creative, but I don't know if it was the bartender or what, but it just tasted plasticky (is there a word like that) Hawaiian punch. Kudos for trying, but sorry, I'm looking for another place to get my Cajun fix on. If you can get to downtown Naperville, Heaven on Seven is much better as far as the food goes, although MoeJoe's seems more "hole-in-the wall" which gives it the feeling of seedy New Orleans. read more

So I've got really mixed feelings of this place, but mostly bad. Granted, I did show up at 11pm on a Saturday night and was there to shut the place down, but I had 3 beers in that time. Being sober at this hour here is a terrible idea, and you'll be the only one that is (sober). (there is no data available to support this claim, just seemed like the kind of place) Downstairs 'speakeasy' - way cooler, felt a lot less likely to be frequented by cast-members of Jersey Shore. The ceiling is at 6'6", so if you're tall or don't like being confined into small areas, stay upstairs. The fireplace was nice. the temperature seemed to swing 20 degrees in seconds, though. Couldn't tell with the way some of the waitresses were dressed if there might be another room i hadn't seen with a stripper pole. The vomit on the front sidewalk was an added touch, I wonder if they fly in a fresh supply every night, or have some on hand all of the time? I'm 32, and I think I'm 10 years older than anyone here. That mathematically really shouldn't be very true. Didn't see a single bouncer checking ID's, so maybe I was drinking with the high school football team? I feel bad giving this place 2 stars, as I'd like to say it was better than that...but...I DID get sick from their chicken, so that's that. The ambiance is nice, and it's in a cute downtown-shoppes-area of Plainfield. I went with three other people and the food didn't taste bad at all at the time :/ For apps we had corn bread, goat cheese, and crab cakes. They were tasty, and the service was good with our waitress checking in on us and refilling our sodas and beer appropriately. The cajun style is fun and there's alligator, boar burgers, gumbo, jambalaya, etc. which all sounded tempting. I went with the fried chicken po' boy, and everything seemed fine at the time. I didn't get immediately sick, but hours later, I was very uncomfortable, and since I hadn't eaten anything else, I'm confident that something there was a bit off. The place had a fun atmosphere being decorated like new Orleans (as much as a bar can be without coming off gaudy). The food was fantastic and the portions were quite large. Be careful though because the prices are quite a bit more than you would expect. OMG GUYS, THE GUMBO. OMG. The gumbo is worth of 5 stars alone, but I have to contain myself until another visit before I award the coveted 5-star review. Okay so rewind: we walked in on a beautiful summer Saturday night, prepared to wait. We did, but only for a few minutes. We asked the hostess if there was a wait for seating outdoors and her response was, "Well there's a waitlist, so you'd have to.........wait." It was more comical than anything, but clearly all the staff was very busy and had too many things on their minds! Regardless, we were sat quickly. Half of my family is from the heart of Cajun country, so I get extremely excited - albeit anxious - every time I frequent a "Cajun" restaurant outside of Louisiana. In fact I can't say I've ever had gumbo or a poboy at an establishment north of Louisiana that was worth going back to. This....now this, takes the cake. We splurged, based on previous yelp reviews, on the fried alligator ($15 app). I've had it similar to an arancini previously, but never literally as pieces of gator. It did not taste like chicken and I loved it. Great texture, light fry, awesome dipping sauce. Also a huge portion, great for sharing probably with as many as four people! Then...THE GUMBO. DROOL. I am now marking Moe Joe's as the best gumbo in all states minus Louisiana (okay well...from what I've tasted thus far). Though a very thick roux, it was dark and smokey and spicy and overall amazing-ness. The "cup" was huge, and enough to share a few spoonfuls (though I didn't want to). It also came with cornbread, which was a nice surprise. When I first looked at the menu, I thought, how could someone come to a restaurant just eat a giant bowl ($12.95 entree) for dinner? Well, I figured it out. Had I not already ordered my poboy, I would have scooped up another bowl (not because I needed it, but because I wanted it). It had okra and Andouille as the front runners, and the flavor was amazing. Next up was my poboy. Also delicious. I had the petite shrimp, and it was the perfect amount of fillings, but not difficult to bite into. Remoulade was spicy but creamy, but I do wish there was a bit more on there. Chips are on-point, but who has room for those?? Also as good as the gumbo: corn fritters! I had never had them before, and they're similar to a beignet, in that they're delicious and powdered sugar-y but they make you feel like maybe a bit healthier since they have corn in them? Ha! We saved the fritters as a dessert, and I ordered a coffee cocktail - this is the only menu item in which they did me wrong. Shortly after sipping, the cream curdled - or something happened that was gross - but our server took care of it and we didn't pay a penny of it. Apparently their coffee cocktails come from a Starbucks machine, so who knows what happened there. Blame technology. Hubby had a burger. He was all set for the poboy, but the Wild Board Burger caught his eye - so at least he still ventured out! It had a great flavor to it but forewarning: there's a heavy crisp to the outside that may scare away anyone who loves their medium burgers. Overall, service was a bit flighty, but they were packed. For all of the food - app, soup, side, two entrees, plus a bloody mary for me and a cocktail and beer for hubby, we paid $76 plus tip, and I was pleasantly surprised, it seemed like a good deal to us considering we got two meals out of the deal due to leftovers! read more

Fun atmosphere and great food. The hubby and I shared a sugarcane carribean shrimp appetizer - and YUMMO! It was sweet and spicy at the same time, and very delish. I ordered a ham steak for my main dish - the slice of ham was probably about an inch thick and as big as the dinner plate is was served on (Ok, maybe it was a salad plate, but the point is that the hunk of meat was HUGE). Cheddar mashed potatoes are also great, and the green beans have a nice bacony flavor to them. My husband, who is the cajun fan in our family, got the crawfish etoufee. He loves spicy food, and said it was spicy enough to add the right flavor, but not so spicy it would be tough for people to handle. Bonus... All I have to say is...MUFFALETTA = AMAZING! What is a Muffaletta? A specialty of New Orleans - Tomato focaccia bread stuffed with layers of sliced mozzarella, Genoa salami and smoked ham, topped with a garlic olive salad. The olive salad is the feature that sets the Muffaletta apart from all other sandwiches. I'm not gonna lie though, this is the first muffaletta I've ever had, so I have nothing to compare it to...but in my opinion, it was like heaven in my mouth. The fried crawfish po boy was also not too shabby, and their sweet potatoe fries are good with a dusting of cinnamon and sugar. Went to this establishment for the 1st time tonite and will NEVER be back. The service was horrible. We had to go the bar to get drinks. After sitting down for 45mins and receiving glasses of water, one round of drinks and a food order put in 10 minutes prior, we looked like the idiots. Then we tried ordering from the bar and it was the same. Finally, before deciding to leave, we addressed the server and instead of trying to help the situation, it was all attitude and she turned her back and walked away claiming she was a manager. Absolutely loved this place! The atmosphere is welcoming, the staff is excellent. I am quite impressed how everyone I encountered was friendly, attentive, and concerned about making the experience great. We had the alligator kabobs and loved them. Wife had the fried catfish and thought it was tasty. I am a connoisseur of jambalaya whenever I can find it and I had a great experience. The portions were great, the place was clean, and my wife was impressed with the drink menu options and descriptions of the crazy drinks they offered. We will definitely return with friends in the near future. It is a bit loud, but it feels like part of the charm, but it is not overwhelmingly loud. Definitely recommend giving Moe Joe's a try. Been to this place a couple times. The first time I went for the drinks and the second time I actually tried the food. The second time I was with a party of about 12 and we had a $400+ bill. SO DISAPPOINTING Everything looks great on paper- boar burger, alligator, crawfish. They seem to have it all. I ordered the fried chicken po'boy, expecting it to be Cajun-seasoned (or seasoned at all??) and covered in a Caribbean rum sauce that I ordered. I got plain fried chicken tenders cut up on a dry piece of bread for $12.95. There was no Caribbean rum sauce and when I asked for some, I got mayo. We couldn't pay the bill for about 30 minutes because they don't split the bill and we were trying to figure out how they wanted us to do it. If they were as worried about delivering good food and good service as they were worried about cleaning our table and getting us out of there, maybe I'd go there again. I'm so disappointed! I ordered a blackened chicken po boy and it was so so. The chicken was tender and flavorful but the menu said it comes on a garlic butter toasted sub. It did not, so I mentioned it to the waitress and she said the kitchen told her they did that about two years ago and they were the original menus. I don't care if the menus are original or not, I was sorely disappointed for a $16 sandwich that didn't meet the menus standard. I'm a foodie and love po boys so it would really go far if they gave the customer what they promised in black and white for that specific item. The yumbo was good (gumbo on top of mashed potatoes). They asked what side we wanted with the sandwich (which is not included with said expensive sandwich). Came here with a group of 8 for a family birthday celebration. A reservation had been made. Upon arrival, the hostess was MIA from the entrance. Not many folks in the dinning room. So my partner and I went to the bar as we were early for our group. We noticed the hostess so we went back to the dining room to check in. She was very friendly and quickly got the tables grouped together for us. The service was pretty strong, out the gate. We were quickly greeted by a server who took drink orders. As more members of our party arrived, she was swift with getting drinks to them as well. We ordered some appetizers to start: Corn crusted Alligator tail, Fried Green Tomatos and Ka Brit Fromaj. Before our appetizers came out, our server took our entrée orders. It seemed to take quite a while to get our appetizers... no one really kept a clock on it, but it became noticeable even though we all were engulfed in conversation. Not to disappoint, when we did receive them, all of it was quite tasty. I was impressed with the Alligator and Fromaj... I never had fried green tomoatos before, but they were also very good. For my entrée I was torn between the frog legs and crawfish etouffee. I asked the server to help me break the tie and without blinking she stated the etoufee was her favorite on the menu... SOLD. I'll tell you of all the times I've ordered Crawfish etoufee, this is one of my favorites. It was LOADED with crawfish and cooked to perfection. Others at my table ordered the Jambalaya... I heard it was a bit on the spicy side as even my brother in law had a runny nose while consuming it. There was an Alligator and Andouille Picante that had a warning for its spiciness... however that was mild in contrast to the jambalaya. Overall, the experience was pleasant. One of the owners was making her way through the dining room checking in on tables and making conversation with guests. It was a causal environment that did justice to the Cajun theme. Last, but not least, their beer menu was great. Even had a few Three Floyds on tap. We definitely plan to come back and try some more off their menu. read more

Let me start off with the fact that none of the waitresses asked my friend and I if we needed to be seated or cared to help us to the basement (as we were clearly new and lost) for the comedy show. Once locating the basement we seated ourselves for the show. The majority of the show was rudely interrupted by the ignorant and not so funny bartender. She continued to yell out lewd comments & eventually made it so uncomfortable, you could cut the awkwardness in the room with a knife. She got pretty hostile. The comedians were pretty funny & were able to brush off the nasty comments the bartender was shouting out. After the show, we made our way upstairs for some drinks. I ordered a rum runner, and the bartender rudely said "A Rum Runner??".. With that face and awkward pause of silence and raised eyebrow, "you're ordering a rum runner?".. I asked her if she knew what was in it, she said "yes, I just haven't had anyone order it.".. She handed me the drink & it tasted like straight Jagermeister. (it's definitely a fruity drink, not liquorice tasting. I think it was poor customer service to reply to a customer the way she did. As if it were a chore or offense to make the drink. I returned it, and asked a different bartender to make it, who seemed much more willing and kind enough to make it properly. I won't be returning. Too unpleasant. read more

We had dinner at MoeJoe's last night including my 9 year old daughter and we all enjoyed the food!! The entrees are large so between the three of us we had 2 appetizers and 2 entrees. We really enjoyed their jambalaya as well as their crab cakes, oysters and caesar salad with blackened shrimp. We would definitely dine there again!! read more

I love this place! The staff is so gracious, helpful and attentive!! I was drinking ginger ale and I believe I had 3 and was offered a 4th. And, what really keeps me going back is the food. We come often because the food is amazing... alligator bites are probably my hubby's favorite appetizer ever. Service lately has been less than stellar. About a month ago, server literally got everything wrong with the order except appetizer. Ordered iced tea and a water with lemon....we both got soda brought to table. Easy to correct. My husband ordered a burger med/well and regular fries. Burger was cooked wrong and got sweet potato fries. I asked for shrimp etouffe- got crawfish...Both close but not what we ordered...never got asked about refills for our drinks. Today, our waitress was horrible. Never got the little corn bread they usually delivery to the table. Pretty sure our appetizer was not put in until we mentioned it considering two tables who were seated after we ordered had their food before we got our appetizer and we finished a beer and a half and sat for another 15 minutes waiting for it and our food came 5 min later. Waitress blaimed the kitchen but I'd bet the small tip she got that she put it in when I questioned her. Fortunately, it was a lazy mellow Sunday afternoon and the food made up for the wait. If the service doesn't improve though, will have to rethink our patronage. read more

Drinks where great! And bartenders where always checking up on you for refills. I'd give the bartenders 5 stars! The food was pretty good too, but our waitress sucked. We went here in a small group to celebrate a friends birthday. Waiting for a table we Sat at the bar and ordered a couple of drinks, like I said before the bartenders where great. But once we got a table it took forever to even order! Once we did we waited another hour and a half for the food to arrive, our waitress stopped over once to check on drinks and that was it. Never apologized or explained about the wait. Usually we would just order more drinks and relax, but witnessing 3 other groups who sat down about 20 minutes after us receive there food, 2 more rounds of drinks and there bill before we saw our waitress again, made this place pretty undesirable. After eating we spent another hour trying to find our waitress to get the bill, at this point she was full of attitude. And it wasn't like we were rude to her, in the amount of time we where there maybe 10 minutes of it was spent talking to her. Very unprofessional read more

I'm a fan of this place. When I visit back home this is where I usually meet up with friends. The basement is usually the place to be if you can't stand the shitty DJ's they hire to play live music late nights. Decent prices and they do a solid job of serving, bartenders and waitresses. The art on the walls and ambience is awesome. I've enjoyed the food before. Great beer list. And they carry Malort. read more
