Went for a nice dinner here on Saturday night and we sat with the Owners daughter Lola. She did a Fantastic job. Very knowledgeable, attentive stopped by to check on us. I am conflicted about giving this low of a rating. Our service was excellent. Our food was also very good.... BUT...a double of Eagle Rare was $32. I get it hard to find, but it's a $60 bottle of whiskey. Worse yet, a double of Elmer T. Lee was $80. Once again, hard to find, but that's more than a whole bottle would cost at a liquor store. I don't mind paying for a great night out, but hate being ripped off. Moe Joe's should be ashamed. read more

We kinda came here by accident! I was craving Jamaican food and somehow online, the closest "Jamaican" restaurant to Naperville was here. So definitely was shocked when we walked into a Cajun restaurant instead and the closest thing to Jamaican food was the Jamaican flavored wings... Probably should've looked up the menu before walking in here but oh well. I ended up ordering the Jambalaya and my husband ordered alligator tail since we were here and honestly can't complain. I came here with a group for dinner. As we arrived before our group, we decided to grab a drink at the bar. Omg the beer and drink list is amazing! They had approx 100 (yes, seriously) beers, ciders, and seltzers available in bottles and cans. They also had cocktails, mocktails, and sodas. Pricing for food and drinks is very reasonable. Some things to keep in mind are that some of their menu items state they take 45 minutes to cook. Also, we came with a group, and they only take 1 form of payment per table. They start you with cornbread with cinnamon butter. It is delicious! I went with the jambalaya, and it was awesome! It's so flavorful. Restaurant itself felt a little dirty and sticky. I really love the food here. I have eaten here three or four times and every time has been great. They have a good variety of Cajun and creole food. Every meal comes with some cornbread at the beginning. There are also cornbread fritters, covered in powdered sugar. Think corn fritter and a beignet had a baby. Must have! Although a lot of the food is definitely not on the healthy side, they have surprisingly good salads as well. I've had a drink or two here, but they're a bit sweet for me, just like in New Orleans. My only negative comment about the restaurant is I feel like they really need a facelift. The New Orleans vibe is strong in the decor, but not necessarily in a good way. Kind of like how on Bourbon Street everything is a little bit dirty and smells a little bit like the night before. I think a fresh coat of paint inside and outside and a good scrub would do a lot for this place and it would bump my review to a 5. read more

We came here to celebrate a friend's birthday. We had a reservation but arrived 20 minutes early and hit the bar. The staff and bartenders are nice. The restaurant itself has a New Orleans cajun vibe to it. They have a huge beer list. Actually, they have a draft menu, cocktail menu, and a separate beer list for sours, ciders, ales, etc. I ordered 2 of the same beer, Lindeman's Strawberry (sour). The bottles were only ~8 Oz. They're a beer maker from Belgium. The foods are New Orleans style. They have jambalaya, turtle, shrimp, gator, po boys, salads, you name it. I have the fried chicken salad. Unfortunately, I didn't snap a photo, but it was huge. They gave me a lot more chicken than expected. Plus, it was only $17. read more

I'm a sucker for Cajun food. Etouffé was flavorful. Gumbo's blond roux was flavorful and properly kicky. Portions were decent. Maple Tree and Pappadeux's are great, and the food here holds up very well compared to them. Chef's kiss to the owner and chefs. You should be proud. read more

Nola vibe in Plainfield. The food is average at best but the staff is always fun to interact with. (Except in the bar area where staff won't talk at all). It can get crowded in here and always loud. There's a speakeasy downstairs but it's nothing like you'd think a speakeasy should be. Just more room for people to sit. There's not more to say about it here... meh. read more

Wow. I did not expect this level of "good". Plenty of off street parking. Saturday early afternoon visit. Extremely cheerful hostess seated us. Lizzy our server, same vibe. Started with the drink special, Stone sours. Perfect. Wife and I opted for the seafood gumbo. Simply wow. I came here for a birthday dinner to celebrate my cousin, and prior to this night I never heard of Moe Joe's. Located in downtown Plainfield I think the restaurant is a small and intimate one yet, the atmosphere is very lively. The hostess and the waitresses were very nice. We had a very large party about 18-20 people and the waitress did a phenomenal job with getting orders in. No one had any issues with forgotten requests, which I find impressive! I really enjoyed my meal! I wasn't particularly hungry this night so I just ordered the coconut shrimp appetizer, along with a side of the cheddar mash potatoes. Everything tasted great! My cousin who ordered the strawberry lemonade did complain that her drink tasted watered down, but I had no complaints with my food. It was fresh, good, and hot! I also ordered a piña colada and was pleased with how big the drink was. It tasted great too. They did put a Mardi Gras bead on my drink and I appreciate the attention to detail, as it added to the theme of the restaurant. I was slightly bothered that the beads were touching and ingrained in my drink. With that being said as long as the bead was clean and handled with basic sanitation standards then it's fine. I really did enjoy my time here, and the food was pretty good. I don't know when I'll be here again, but I definitely would not mind coming back! read more

A bummer. I REALLY wanted to like this place. It's got the same vibe you'd find in a Vieux Carré joint, it even had that kind of "old" smell (not offensive) that "old" places have. The menus look promising for sure. I HAD to have a cocktail, and zoomed in right away on a "Sazerac". Well, the tiny glass they brought me tasted like many things, none of which were ANYTHING REMOTELY close to a "Sazerac". It tasted closer to a Whiskey Sour than anything. I wonder if they sent out the wrong drink-I thought not 'cos the Saz was a "feature" drink on the menu. In a NOLA-themed bar, the Bartender should know how to make a proper Sazerac before he learns how to pour a beer. But I digress... A tiny loaf of crumbly, mealy cornbread came with a cinnamon honey butter for starters. They didn't give us spoons, which would have been the preferred method to eat it. It wasn't anything special. Strike one. I swung with a cup of Gumbo and Crawfish Etouffeé. Wife went with a Shrimp Po-Boy. Order of Coleslaw for the table. Pretty safe selections to take the temperature of a new place. We waited quite a long time for our food. Strike two. When it finally arrived, they put the bowl/plate of Etouffeé down, and next to it, what looked like a full bowl of White Rice. Couldn't see anything but rice. I asked where my Gumbo was, the Waiter pointed to the bowl of White Rice and said "That's the Gumbo". Ahem. I started to dig down under the rice and finally came upon a pale thick stew. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't the greatest bowl I've ever had. Yes, chock full of Andouille cubes and Chicken, but very timidly seasoned. If I was given this bowl in other surroundings, I might not have identified it as "Gumbo". Damn, there was a LOT of rice. Progressing, the Etouffeé tasted almost totally similar to the "gumbo". Not seasoned well, and lacking the flavor punch I like in an etouffeé. Even after a generous shake of salt, it tasted tired. And it too, was over a copious amount of rice. Don't get me wrong, I like rice, but... Back to the "gumbo", shouldn't you get your "soup" course before your Entreé? I thought so. Wife's Po-boy had six medium fried shrimps open-faced on bread with tomatoes and lettuce. The shrimps looked/tasted like the frozen kind you get at an inland diner. The coleslaw was very tart and spicy. Again, tasting like many things, but not close to "coleslaw". Wife had one bite and spat it out in her napkin. I actually liked it-it turned out to be the star of the meal. Strike three, and OUT! With tip, the tab came to $90 on the noggin'. Ouch, and the bitter aroma of disappointment. read more
