Very bad experience. Celebrated my birthday with 10 family members, restaurant was not busy at all, less than half capacity. Waited over an hour for our food. Two family members received their meals first as other family members waited 45 minutes for their meals, no meals brought out at same time. Server was very frustrated as it showed in her demeanor. No manager came to our table to apologize or explain the poor overall service from the kitchen staff. Uptown management and ownership should really take this to heart knowing the money we spent for what was to be a nice family celebration, that turned into utter disappointment. I had the Al pastor tacos here, they were super tasty. I would get them again. They come with chips and salsa but I appreciate that they let you order a small side of queso if you want. That made it the perfect meal for me! To drink I enjoyed their strawberry mule which was made perfectly. I also had a sip of my friend's frozen lavender lemonade. It was delicious and surprisingly not overly sweet or syrupy. My son enjoyed his cheese pizza kids meal which was a great size for many ages. We had tons of leftovers since he is only 4. The food is just freezer food that gets dressed up pretty. Not worth the price tag. Good live music and cute bar. The staff is really NOT accommodating at all. Met some lady friends for dinner and we couldn't even talk. The music, on a Monday evening, was absolutely blasting. We dined outside instead. Unfortunately, there were many loud motorcycles outside. Luckily, they left after about 10 minutes of idling directly in front of our table. Apparently, the driver had to answer some text messages and didn't care that his exhaust was aimed our direction. What followed was nothing short of bizarre: a teenage busboy stormed over and in an extremely unprofessional manner told us "these tables are expensive as s***" with complete ignorance. With an unhinged tirade from someone who appeared to be barely old enough to vote. Management? Nowhere to be found--both literally and in terms of accountability. If your idea of "hospitality" involves being berated by an adolescent who's clearly never been trained--or even mildly supervised--this might just be your new favorite spot. Friends and I were looking for places to eat and decided to stop by this place. The first thing we noticed when walking in was the smell. It was an unpleasant smell, almost like dirty socks. We looked past it and self seated. After the waiter gave us our drinks she asked if we were ready to order to which we replied that we needed a little bit more time. We ended up waiting around 25 minutes with the server NEVER coming back to our table, and so much time had passed that we didn't even remember what she looked like. I remember saying that Uptown was not my favorite after going there many years ago. Fast forward to now and I have to say that it is growing on me. I've been there for a late night snack, for lunch and for after dinner drinks all in one month. Each time I've been very satisfied. Service is good, food has been yummy and the ambiance is fun. I was there during a Bears game and the place was packed. They even had a complimentary hot dog bar for the game. When I was there on a Saturday night they had a band that was playing all sorts of music and it was fun to listen to. I have a new favorite in downtown Plainfield. read more

My son and myself went out for a kinda early dinner around 445 on a Wednesday. They were extremely poor staffed at that time. She told me she was the only one with maybe like 5 tables inside and multiple outside. Very obvious that it was too much for one server. She was great but there is only so much one person can do. Service was slow. But we also know the food is great here. But since it took us so long to be able to order we stayed for just an appetizer and went a few doors down to another place for dinner. Now let me be clear.. the server was running her butt off. The problem was definitely not her. The problem was the staffing and lack of help. If you see that your only server has way too many tables.. management should be stepping in and help refilling drinks or helping in other ways. I dig this place. Food is surprisingly very good for a bar! Drinks are reasonably priced and they have live bands (versus the dead ones) every week. My band recently played there, and from our perspective, the stage area is incredibly small. So small in fact that I've considered redesigning the layout of the restaurant on a drink napkin nearly every time I've been there. It does make it challenging to play there though - hard to hear what you're playing from up there. Other than that, it's great! And we will be back again and again. Hopefully they can make some minor changes that might improve the stage and live music experience! read more

Came here to try some cocktails & sit on their outdoor patio on a nice day. The patio is right by the street so it is a little busy but I really didn't mind. Our server was so sweet and attentive! So that was great. I really wanted to try out some of their cocktails so I ordered a few: Pink lady, Crop top, the naughty Paloma. My least favorite was the crop top. It was cute because they mix it with edible glitter but the flavors just tasted off and oddly sweet in an artificial way. However the naughty Paloma was DELICIOUS. Pink lady was just okay. My husband and I ordered the shrimp Tampico & the firecracker cauliflower. Both were alright. The shrimp dish was very salty and while the cauliflower was super crispy, the sauce was way too sweet and didn't have much heat. Didn't really live up to the "firecracker" name. They did have happy hour all day though with half price appetizers which was nice! It's a good place to meet up with friends but the food won't blow you away. read more

Not too busy at this time. The place has an industrial rustic type of vibe. My sister and I ordered the spring Maui drink. Very tasty and refreshing. Originally my sister had ordered an old fashioned from the specialty cocktail menu. My sister didn't like it and we asked our waitress to take it back but she can leave it on our bill. She very nicely said to not worry about it and will be removing it. For food, we started off with the firecracker cauliflower wings and nachos. Both were sooooo yummy! Both of these are a MUST! I got the I Love Greenie Salad...sooo good (the pickled red onion was my favorite part), and my friend got the Spicy Mushroom & Gorgonzola flatbread. Went there last night for some after dinner drinks. We had a group of 9 ladies. Wanted to sit outside so we could talk since there was a band inside. So we grabbed two small tables out front and pushed them together. Well holy shit.... You would have thought we just started to perform a human sacrifice out front of that joint. Within seconds we had a kid coming outta that place yelling about "this shit is expensive and we don't push tables together here".... First of all Tanner respect your elders cause I'm old enough to be your mom.... Second of all I hear ya loud and clear cause you're crying like my 8 year old... Point being, it's not the message that was the issue it was the delivery that was hot garbage! Then you have the waitress chime in with how "this is ridiculous ".... What's ridiculous is the fact that you had a not so busy establishment and you just turned away a table full of feral old ladies that have all worked in the industry, drink like fish, and tip incredibly well. So if you wanna get scolded for doing something incredibly common like pushing tables together then this is the place for you. I've been here multiple times, for multiple different occasions, even including carry-out - so I have quite the experience with Uptown! As a bar, I absolutely love the back room area. I've enjoyed drinks with a small table before, and I've also reserved the entire backroom with a dedicated server (no fee!) - both times, it was a great option to get away from the crowd/noise and still be out and about enjoying a drink. As a restaurant, the food here is pretty solid. The I Dream of Greenie salad is out of this world - dressing is so so good! A few of the carry-out orders have needed reheating or some doctoring up, but this should be no surprise, as we expect this with most food. During the day on a weekend, it's also a great option to bring the kiddos as well. The kids menu has some great choices, and the pizza is super good! read more

07/17/2024 I will start by saying that we truly weren't aware of an industry common practice. I had to do some research and found it to be true. I can say that I learned something new. On to the review, my buddy asked about the specials. One of the specials was mix drinks for $5. He asked if he could have it with no ice or soda, just the liquor. The server said "Sure, no problem". (I've learned that this translates to "Neat") He proceeded to order 5 of these throughout the evening. When his bill came, he was surprised to see a quantity of 10. He thought this was a mistake and respectively brought this to the servers' attention. She began to explain to us the common industry practice of when a drink is ordered without ice or soda, it is treated as a "Neat" which is a 2 oz pour, which is considered a double, so he was charged $10 per drink. Now we have been coming here for the last 3 years, he has been coming here longer than I have with his family. Now whether it was dumb luck, lack of knowledge servers, or servers taking care of us, we have never been charged double for a special in all of the times we have gone here. This truly was the first time this happen. By this time the server has spoken with the bartender who I can visibly see getting annoyed. She proceeds over to the manager who is at table with others drinking, to explain the situation. Once done, the bartender walks over to our table with a chip on her shoulder (basically in defense mode) with what seem to be a rehearsed statement. She had no interest in hearing what we had to say. She was "matter of fact" in her statement to us. I tried to be reasonable, and I acknowledged what she was echoing from the server. But she didn't care about what I had to say. She had made up her mind to stand her ground. At this point the manager walked over to being explaining the same explanation that the server and bartender had already given. Now my buddy was visibly upset but in no way did he ever get load or rude with any of the employees. He was simply trying to explain that he has been a customer of their establishment for a long time and has never been charge for a double on a special, this truly was the first time. (I will add this, there were 4 of us all together, all over 35 years of age and none of us had ever heard of the industry standard when it came to ordering a "Neat" drink. This was something that we all learned yesterday.) The manager never came over with any intent to de-escalate the situation, instead she came with gloves on ready for a fight (So sad). At one point I tried to speak with her and acknowledged that I understood what ALL had explained. However, she didn't want to listen to me when I tried to explain our side of the story. It was as if she thought he was trying to pull a fast one (which he wasn't), he was genuinely caught of guard by something we all had no knowledge of. To add insult to the situation, a person that I can only assume is a good friend of hers (the manager) that was sitting at the table with her, had gotten up and walk past our table to go behind the bar and speak with the bartender about our situation. She then came out behind the bar and past our table to tell our server who my buddy was apologizing to as well as letting her know that she did nothing wrong, made a statement of "Don't apologize to them for shit, he drank it, he has to pay for it". This was uncalled for, she had nothing to do with the situation and you only have one side of the story....oh and you're a customer like us so why would you make a comment. (Just completely disrespectful) In the end, with malice and reluctant, the manager gave my buddy a $12 credit and we left. This was never about the money but more about the principle and lack of understanding and compassion to the situation. To see a manager conduct herself as she did to a long-time customer who was genuinely trying to understand the situation and explain his confusion, basically say in so many words, "Your full of shit if you didn't know the industry standard for ordering a neat drink. Here's $12, now get out" is pretty sad. To lose customers over $25 because of a misunderstanding on our part that we acknowledge is disappointing. Hopefully this will help them and her in the future when dealing with a customer, to look at the bigger picture. read more

On my visit on a Saturday it was very busy but the staff did well keeping up with food and drinks for the customers, limited on street parking but public parking is available on the lot behind the public library about a block away. The bar area was full of patrons watching the hockey game on the TV's. The dining area was more empty with a few people having a dinner. There's a projector in the dining area that was showing the Blackhawks game on the wall. The waitress was friendly and fast with our drink orders.
