Today I was lucky enough to catch Gruben's Uptown Tap's famous bingo night! Although the process of marking a complete "C" shape was tedious and somewhat elongated, I nearly got "Bingo!" a few specific times! The chicken strips were on par with that of TGI Friday's, however I didn't understand the difference between the "Homestyle" fries and standard fries I've found in other establishments. They were good, don't get me wrong, its just they lacked that certain "zing" that for me characterizes that "Homestyle" approach they were shooting for. Overall, I'd recommend this place for some quick grub 'n games on a wednesday! read more

Words cannot describe my experience that I had at a bar that I use to frequent a lot. After last night, I suggest that no one goes to Uptown! Plainfield has there annual Santa crawl so all of the bars were busy and many people were intoxicated. My group did not participate in this event because we had an engagement event down the street. One person in my group was at the point where she needed to go home and we were working quickly to get her an Uber home. Note she was no longer drinking at there bar and was not being a disturbance. The owner screamed at my group to get her out of the bar and we calmly explained we were working on getting her home. At this point, the owner, who was clearly intoxicated kept verbally assaulting my friend and I as we tried to get the person an Uber and close my tab. We explained that we were working on getting her a ride home and she was drinking water. I then had a man in a Santa Costume, who also claimed he was an owner, rip my drink out of my hand and put his hands on me. He screamed at me, a woman, and made me very uncomfortable. I have never been treated that way by a person in my life. Word of advice- if you are an owner, do not get intoxicated at your own establishment, verbally assault my group for a situation we working to fix, and then put your hands on me. For any doubter Of this situation, we have a video of the entire fight and will be moving legally forward with this situation. read more

Not happy with the very young waitress who kept pulling her mask down below her nose while waiting on our table serving us food and drinks in the wine garden. in this day and age it's IMPERATIVE that servers keep their mouths & noses covered with their face masks while waiting on customers and tables This made me very concerned and I did not enjoy my meal because she kept sliding her mask up and down her face. I understand they are uncomfortable but it was early upon opening and I teach and wear mine the whole time.. Please realize the older population are at risk and when they do finally feel brave enough to venture out to dine they need to feel safe. read more

Waited for our second time here to post a review. The prices are very reasonable to what you get. 1st day I had the burger for $5. I don't know what seasoning they use but holy crap was it good!! Wife had a Rueben (was very big) and loved it. Got the small pizza ($5) And it was large enough for 1 for a meal- that was good too!!! no complaints.. 2nd time the Mrs has the Rueben again- yes she liked it that much. Ample outdoor seating with umbrellas. Plenty of social distancing room and the staff all wore masks. Hand sanitizer on every table. The hostess and waiter, Shawn, were great. Had the Shrimp Tampico appetizer, which was delicious! The shrimp balanced out all the flavors in the sauce and spices, and the bread was done just right (perfect medium of toasted and fluff. When soaking the bread in the sauce, you got the kick of the red pepper flakes. I also had the turkey melt panini and sweet potato fries. Great flavor on the panini! Again, not over or under done on the sandwich or fries. I will definitely be visiting again. read more

Just left this spot and my husband and I were torn between 3 and 4 stars... What we ordered: jalapeño bottle caps (delicious but def on the spicy side, served with spicy nacho sauce), came out hot and the perfect amount for the two of us. Me: pulled bbq pork sandwich with sweet potato fries. Loved the sandwich, highly recommend it. Warm, comforting, but not too heavy. I finished it. Do not recommend the sweet potato fries at all. I had maybe three and left the rest on the plate. Seems they had little to no seasoning on them, although cooked well. Husband: Friday fish fry with tots. He liked the beer batter on the fish, not over cooked, hush puppies were good, great tartar sauce, garlic bread left something to be desired. He didn't finish the bread, and took home most of the tots. I had a Bud Light and he had a Daisy Cutter. We both felt the beer list left a lot to be desired, especially considering they have "tap" in their name. So many macro-brewed beers, was hoping for more variety, anything special to the area, etc. Service- we were greeted by the hostess immediately, seated outside, and greeted by the first of two servers within minutes. A young man and woman (she seemed to be training him) were kind of tag-teaming our table, which led to very frequent stops by the table and asking the same questions. What kind of got me was that 25 minutes after we ordered from the woman, the man came out and asked if we needed anything. We said simply "our food." He said OK and went back inside. The woman came out a couple minutes later and said "your food will be right out." It was another 6 or 7 minutes before the food came out PIPING hot, which led me to believe that it wasn't until he checked in on us that the food order was actually placed. I would say hey, it's a Friday night... but the table next to us ordered their food within 5 minutes of us ordering and were having their plates cleared when we got our food dropped off. Bathrooms were pretty clean, horrible squeaking noise when opening the door to the women's. I don't understand the one sink but two soap dispensers and two towel dispensers... was quite loud and raucous inside the bar/inside dining area (which is fine, just noting), probably a good spot to watch games and such. Patio out front is the way to go if you want a quieter dining experience. read more

I understand that this is the local go to place in Plainfield, but for out of town folks keep walking. There are much better and friendlier place in DT Plainfield. Covid aside, this place needs to learn how to treat its customers with respect. Now I get that there is a service issue with just about all restaurants/ravers/etc do to lack of workers, but they can at least recognize and service their patrons when approaching the bar for a drink. Many other places in the area to spend your hard earned money. read more

This place is great. Free popcorn. Excellent service. Had probably a Top 5 Old Fashioned (and I have had many). They have Guinness on tap (wonderful). Food was very good. Best of all they had a decent little stage with a very strong acoustic band doing country that night. I could have stayed there all evening. Will be back for sure. read more

This place has improved so much since we moved to Plainfield nearly 3 years ago. Service has improved, food has improved... everything is great now. I've been coming here for several years now and I love that it is just a laid back place with lots of food options. My friends and I used to love playing darts here, too, but unfortunately those did not survive the remodel. Sad day! The food is still delicious though. We'll miss the $5-6 burgers, but it's not worth dealing with the rude staff when there's another burger joint down the street with a much friendlier staff. Next time I will try the "Stevens Challenge" : 2 beef patties, BBQ pulled pork, corned beef, fried egg, 2 chicken tenders, 2 stips bacon, lettuce, tomato, fried onions, mayo, sauerkraut & topped with cheddar cheese sauce between 2 grilled cheese sandwiches. We were here to watch playoff football. The place was pretty busy and the crowd was fun. Missy took very good care of us and could not have been nicer. This was our first time here and she spent a lot of time explaining the menu. Our drinks came out in the normal amount of time. My wife thought her vodka soda was a bit flat. I ordered a draft beer. It also tasted flat. Maybe it's the CO2 or it's time to clean the lines? We ordered the wings. They were tasty and Missy brought us different sauces to try. We will be back for sure. This is pretty much a dive bar in the heart of historic Plainfield. While all the other restaurants are somewhat upscale here, Uptown is not. However, that doesn't mean it is bad. The food is typical bar food, nothing great. But they have a great selection of beers, especially on tap. They have sidewalk seating which makes for a fun Saturday night of people watching while kicking back with a beer. The bathrooms are grungy, and smell. If I was a chick, I'd squat. read more

I usually don't write reviews but I literally had to after my experience. My boyfriend and I went there for date night and literally had the best time because of the amazing appetizers (which I'm obsessed with), great drinks, and Amber, our server! (Who I may also now be obsessed with) she's hilarious! She got to know us but also gave us our time without hovering too much. She's perfected that balance! And she gave amazing above and beyond service. I'm so used to getting crappy service because my bf and I are people of color so it was really nice to get exceptional service for a change. Drinks were always full and we didn't have to ask for anything! She read our minds most of the time and would have extra napkins, water or silverware before I even had to ask (wondering if she's psychic ) anyway the uptownie nachos are amazing and the sliders are soooo good too. Excellent food and excellent service. There's always room for improvement on the beer list but that's a person to person issue and not an execution issue. I had the pesto chicken pizza with goat cheese and arugula. There was enough arugula on the pizza to feed a family of rabbit or one of me. The goat cheese tasted fresh and there was enough pesto and chicken to round out the flavors. I tried a few different beers and appreciated their draft but they do have a dozen or so non draft, I would have liked to see more October fest beers but could be that I was a few days early. read more

Worst service I've ever had in my life from rudest and most condescending bartenders on earth. The self entitled woman behind the bar began by ignoring my girlfriend when she tried to order a drink. Her obvious plan to flirt her way into a good tip wasn't going to work, so she continued to ignore her until I came over. I tried to order a drink too, but was met with the same horrible, rude, condescending attitude, she really felt it was her life's mission to make sure she put paying customers in their place. This is our favorite local burger place by far! The topping choice are pretty basic but the burgers are always cooked just right. We've tried the wings and love them too! Always a good bang for your buck with affordable food prices and revolving drink specials.
