Ja-jang myun places seem to be hard to find in Seattle, and if you're wanting some you'll have to make due with what's available. Modoo popped up recently and so I had to check it out. The dining room is clean. While you do have to wait a bit for a table, once seated seevice is fast, and food comes out quickly, piping hot. I admit I'm a bit pickey when it comes to ja-jang myun, so take that into consideration when I give it 3 stars. To be clear, the noodles are good here. I would recommend. However it's not to my specific liking. I found the sauce too sweet, and lacking depth. I like the black bean flavor strong and concentrated, and absolutely NOT sweet at all. Modoo's sauce is not like that. I can plainly see around the dining room that many others seem to really like it that way, so clearly I'm in the minority. But if you like your ja-jang myun the way I like it, then Modoo will not be your favorite place. read more

So good! Ever since Modoo opened, I think I've visited at least twice a month! It's everything you would need from a Korean/Chinese noodle restaurant. It's affordable, it's fast and the food is exactly on point. It hits every time! There's not a lot going on in this plaza so there's unlimited parking spaces - the only warning I have is that the restaurant isn't THAT big and I've seen people wait for tables around dinner time (especially on weekends). I've gone several times for takeout and then several times with my husband for a table of 2. The portions are decently sized so we can share one noodle and an appetizer and be full. There's not a lot of side dishes (other than the raddish) but comes with free tea. We've gotten the jjajangmeyon (which I love) but my husband really enjoys the jjamppong. It's delicious the next day too - we might take extra soup home, heat it up over the stove and add extra noodles. TONS of seafood! He also loves the dumplings for appetizers which are a hit every time. We got the fried ones which are delicious and crisp. I wouldn't recommend this for take out but eating in. Service is also great each time. The chefs are quick, the orders are easy and the menu isn't HUGE or too extensive so we know what we want. Highly recommended! They had booth seating for larger parties and standard chair and table seating for parties 2 to 4. Service (4 out of 5): Service was straightforward, and the food delivery was prompt. We asked for some tea and iced water refills, which were quick. Food (4 out of 5): Overall, solid taste and flavor but not mind-blowing. We tried the Friends combo with the black bean noodles and spicy seafood noodle soup with the fried chicken. It satisfied the cravings well, and wasn't too heavy or fried/oily, which was nice. Is it the best? No but it's the best Korean Chinese restaurant in WA. They don't skimp on veggies, seafood and meat. The portions are big and worth the money. The Tangsooyuk was very crispy and juicy. The jjajangmyeon was good and the noodles were a good chewy consistency. I got the chadol (beef brisket) jjamppong and it was delicious. Everything was good but there is just something missing. I wish the jjamppong had a more smoky fire flavor and it wasn't spicy enough. Maybe they can make a spice scale that people could choose from? Not greasy, not too sweet and not too salty. (Probably the best compliment an Asian person can give) Good quality and tasted good but it didn't blow my mind. This place is still the best Chinese Korean food in the area. I had ordered Seafood Gan Jjajang to go and I took a bite of it. It was gooood. Next time I'm having that rather than regular jjajang. The difference between Gan Jjajang and regular Jjajang is the starch water added to the sauce to make it thicker. It was more than enough for two people to share. Dishes came with pickled radish. The jajang was really good and we would definitely get that again. Modoo Banjeom specializes in Korean Chinese food, and for the most part, it delivers probably some of the best versions of it in the Seattle area, although it doesn't quite measure up to places in LA or Vancouver. The jajangmyeon (black bean noodle) was solid, with the noodles being cooked more al dente. The jjampong (spicy noodle soup), however, was a salt bomb. Not sure if it's a one time thing or if this is their version. The tangsuyuk was decent, but the it could be a little crispier and the sauce was not the best. Went with my family on a weekday around noon. The place was full with lunch crowd but we got a table in about 5 min. Food was just alright. Jjajjangmyun sauce was a bit too sweet, which reminds you of jjajang powder you get at H-Mart. Jjamppong was way too spicy for my family's liking, but if you enjoy spicy food, you might like it. It had good amount of mussel, but they were all swiveled up meaning overcooked and/or not fresh. We also got fried rice, and it was nothing to be excited about; it tasted as if they got it out of the wok too soon and decided to microwave the last minute and a half. The only dish we actually enjoyed was kkanpponggi which was actually pretty good, crisp and flavorful. The portion in general was on the small side considering it being a Korean-Chinese restaurant where you expect generous portions to share with companions. As there aren't many nearby alternative Korean style Chinese restaurants, I can't blame them for relatively high price for their food. I've been on a bit of a hiatus from Yelp, but had to log on just to leave a review for this place. There's a bit of a void when it comes to Asian food in the Bothell/Woodinville area, so we were thrilled to hear that there was a new Korean-style Chinese restaurant opening just minutes from our home. Looking at the menu, I honestly wasn't expecting much. With inflation being what it is, the prices were the first thing I gawked at - $15-20 for a meal at minimum. I don't necessarily blame the restaurant for that as that's on par with everything else in the area. Our party of 3 ended up ordering a Friends Combo A, which includes a Jajang (짜장면), Jjamppong (짬뽕), and Tangsuyuk (탕수육). The portion sizes were decent, enough to get us all reasonably full (albeit I wasn't eating with people with huge appetites). 6 out of 5 - The Tangsuyuk was absolutely incredible. I lived in Korea for a good portion of my life, and I honestly have rarely had Tangsuyuk that good even in Korea. It was perfectly deep-fried and crispy on the outside, with a thick, tender chunk of meat on the inside. The sauce on the side was also done perfectly. 5 out of 5 - The Jjamppong was also incredible. The broth had a deep flavor, as opposed to some other local restaurants I'd tried that try to mask everything with more red pepper powder. It was full of assorted seafood and vegetables, and the noodles were springy and chewy. 4 out of 5 - The Jajang was actually probably my least favorite by a small margin, as I think the flavor could have been a bit stronger - it felt (very slightly) diluted. Perhaps next time we'll try the Ganjajang (which typically has thicker sauce). The dish was still chock full of meat, and the noodles were just as good as in the Jjamppong. Minor feedback if I'm being picky: 1. Standard side dishes at Korean-style Chinese restaurants in Korea include yellow radish (which was provided) and raw onions with a side of concentrated black bean paste. Would be great if they'd provide the latter, though they did make up for it with kimchi :) 2. We asked if we could replace the Jajang in the Combo with a Ganjajang but it wasn't possible. That would be nice as we're willing to pay an upcharge if necessary, too. read more

I'm always looking for a good jjajangmyun place and this is might be the best yet in the Seattle area. They have the "boolmaht" down or the "fire taste" of getting in the flame when sautéing the veggies/meat/seafood. The noodles were slightly over cooked for my taste, but the sauce was on point. The jjamppong was decent, but not memorable. The tangsooyook could've been more crispy, but I like that they use the sweet rice batter. Black bean noodles, spicy seafood noodle soup & sweet-n-sour pork/beef are Korean-Chinese comfort food staples that are easily accessible & affordable in S. Korea. Unfortunately, there aren't many of these restaurants in the US, so Modoo Banjeom in Bothell is a must when you crave this food. They also serve 깐풍기 (marinated fried chicken) & 마파두부 (spicy tofu). Tangsuyuk was ok but not crispy enough. jajang was pretty tasteless, the worst of my dishes. Baek jjampong was the best of the bunch. Kkanpunggi didn't have enough meat/big pieces. It was also pretty pricey. Service was very good though. Overall, I would not go there again, mainly because prices did not match my expectations. My father and I tried Modoo about a year ago by supporting locally owned business. The restaurant defined as a casual dining eatery with dozens of indoor/outdoor seating. Service was prompt despite of crowds. We ordered the M1 fried rice served along black bean sauce and Jajangmyeon. Absolutely loved them even though the price might hurt our wallet a little. The Baek Jjamppong was great it had lots of meaty flavors and vegetables. The vegetables were a little overwhelming but were still good. The Tangsuyuk well texture with a crispy outside. While also having a very soft inside. The sauce really topped it off. The boiled dumplings were good but very small, even for an appetizer. The bok choy was ok at best but still packed with wonderful flavors. The service was nice and attentive. They came by to refill the water a few times. While they were very nice and kind.
