One of the best customer service moments to date!! My best friend (our bride to be) flew in from California for the sole purpose of finding the perfect dress for her special day. We were personally greeted at the elevator by our consultant, Briana. She had a huge smile on her face and a genuine excitement for our bride. We were escorted into a gorgeous showroom that we had completely to ourselves. Music was playing, champagne was served. Briana took our bride on a tour of the gowns and paid close attention to what she envisioned. She simultaneously entertained the personalities of the other 4 of us in the party. Our bride tried on a dress that each of us picked out.... we clearly don't know bridal because the first one Briana suggested was THE ONE! I am not a crier.... I balled. Briana took her time with us. Showed us options for alterations. Made no fuss when our bride wanted to try a dress again. She even let the rest of us (now a bottle deep into the champagne) all try on veils, have a little fun and take photos. This far exceeded every expectation we had. Outside of the customer service we recurved, the boutique itself was unique in that it is all custom fitted with no hidden prices. The price you're given at the consultation is the price you get at the end of the journey. Including all three fitting and any alterations. I am so disappointed by my experience here. I booked an appointment and confirmed for Wednesday and Emily even said she would stay late to help me. I left work early and my mom came into the city on a 2 hour bus. We got to the location and found it was closed under renovation. I tried calling their phone number and got their answering machine. I should have listened to other reviews saying how unprofessional they are about booking appointments and actually keeping them because this was the biggest waste of my time. I had the pleasure of meeting Briana and visiting the Modern Trousseau flagship location in NYC last month when I began shopping for wedding gowns. Modern Trousseau was the very first bridal shop I visited when I began searching for my gown. The customer service is amazing right from the start. I filled out the online reservation form on their website and in less than 24 hours, I received a phone call from Briana. She was enthusiastic and was genuinely excited to hear about my bridal vision. What truly made that phone call special was that Briana was willing to open the shop on Monday, when the store is closed, since that was the day that worked best for me and my mother. When my mother and I arrived to the shop, we were warmly greeted by Briana. Prior to our in-store consultation, I had emailed Briana some dresses that I liked. Everything was organized and set up neatly in my dressing room. Briana interacted with my mother and I with such excitement, and we appreciated how easy she made everything, along with her sweet and personable nature. The store itself has a wide selection of dresses, and one of the great aspects is that you truly get an intimate, one on one experience with your bridal consultant and whomever you choose to take with you for these appointments. While I don't mind sharing space with other brides to be, it was nice not having a real time frame for my appointment--I never felt rushed or like I had to wait for my consultant while they were finishing up with other brides. People always talk about how crazy dress shopping could be, but dare I say, this was a pretty relaxing and calm experience! Dresses are on the higher end because they are completely customized to you. I am not quite sure of the range, but I was quoted around $5,000 for the dress I was eyeing. While I didn't end up saying "yes to the dress" at Modern Trousseau, I did appreciate the kind customer service and eclectic array of dresses offered at this flagship store. The showroom is such a gorgeous and elegant place once you step into the office, just beautiful. My stylist was Emily, she was very sweet. The original dress I was schedule to tried on was named Aria. Emily had contacted me to let me know that the dress wont be in for the weekend I was suppose to go in the showroom and try it on. She worked around my schedule for me to come in and try it on. Apparently I ended up trying on a different dress(ruby) that I had like. This dress did't fit me perfect the way I had wanted, but it was such a beautiful dress... Just wasn't for me tho. A con for me was that the alterations that was recommended was all the way in CT. Another wonderful experience - Allie had me in for a second appointment where I found and put down the deposit for my gown - yay!! She popped me a glass of champagne (which was delightful) and was so welcoming and supportive, even letting me loiter around in her office with her while I waited to meet my fiancé. Allie continues to wow me in her customer service and attention to detail, we chatted briefly about my Chinese background and her mom's trip to China, and as we were putting the order in for my dress she remembered this conversation and even had photos to share from her mom's trip (and was polite enough to seem genuinely interested in the photos from my recent trip too). The showroom is really spacious and so cute. My girl friends and I were so impressed by April. She was so nice, attentive and helpful. She really listened and paid attention to what kind of dress I wanted, but also interjected with her expertise when necessary. Email responses from David was very prompt (even on a Sunday, when they aren't working!) * Very nice, spacious dressing rooms with a large mirror and pedestal. * The main room has an even larger and a single pedestal to get a better view; unfortunately, there can be more than one appointment at one time, so it might be occupied when you want to use it! * The bathroom is clean and spacious, but you need to borrow a key and the bathroom is actually in the stairwell. * Was offered cold, bottled water and given a glass. * Was permitted to look around the showroom while I waited for my consultant to become available. * Dresses are made to measure, and various customizations can be made. * Friendly service, the consultant suggested dresses for me based on our discussion (even removing one from a mannequin for me). * Nice selection of belts and hair accessories to try on with the dress. * Well laid-out showroom with lots of light. Easy to see the dresses, and they have large tags with their style name on them. There were multiples of the dresses, so I assume there were either variations or different sizes. * They were offering a 10% off promotion, though I do not know if this is always running. * The samples appeared to be in very good condition. * There were a large variety of styles to choose from, and several with different types of lace than the typical ones you come across. There did seem to be a lot of satin in the dresses, though. Cons: * My appointment started about 10 minutes late, as the prior group was taking a bit of time finishing up. * The dresses are on the pricier side, but are made to measure. We did not discuss budget before hand, so it's possible I tried on dresses out of my budget. * I had to ask for the price of my favourite dress at the end of my appointment, but it was not written down for me. * It turns out you need to make a trip to Connecticut to be fit in a muslin dress (!! wish they told you this up front) I did like one dress very much, but the price was a little more than I wanted to spend, and the trip out to CT was a bit surprising to me (although, I think if I had LOVED the dress, I would have found a way to justify the road trip and found a way to make it happen). Overall, I definitely enjoyed my visit to Modern Trousseau. I recommend visiting if your budget is over $3500 and like the idea of a made-to-measure dress (and don't mind the trip out to CT). The pictures on the website do not really do the dresses justice, as I thought every dress looked better in person. The service was very friendly, but I recommend speaking up if you have questions. read more

This is the first review I've written on yelp because I feel so strongly about Modern Trousseau NYC. This studio is top notch and Melissa is the greatest consultant I've met. The studio is warm and welcoming and the dresses are gorgeous. I went to almost every studio in NYC and beyond to find the perfect dress. Melissa let me try on almost every dress in the store and these gowns were definitely to most beautiful, best constructed, and flattering that I found. There are a lot of different styles to fit almost any bride. And let me say that I am not a young or a small bride. I am 41 and a size 14 street clothes, but started looking for gowns when I was a size 18. Melissa got the gowns on me and I was really able to see how they would look, not just hold them up. Kudos to Melissa, who is perhaps the kindest, most knowledgable and accommodating of anyone in the bridal industry i encountered in NYC. She gave advice when asked but made me feel good even when it looked completely wrong. She steered me away from silhouettes that didn't feel right and made suggestions about options I hadn't thought of. She never made me uncomfortable and always made me feel like the beautiful woman I want to be dressed up in a big white gown. There was one dress I kept trying on (came back 3 times!) and every single time I tried it on, I cried. And she was patient with me and allowed me, my mom, my bridal party to keep coming back, greeting us with chocolate and champagne. (I don't drink but mom sure did appreciate that) In the end, I bought the dress! And let me say this: It was VERY IMPORTANT to me that the dress was made in the design studio -- measured to fit ME -- right here in the USA. Other gowns from Kleinfelds and beyond, from other designers, are measured to your largest area, a size is chosen, gown cut in China, and then they hose you on alterations when they come back fitting you strangely because you are not a cookie cutter size. I am so pleased with the whole experience, I just wanted to chime in and share my wonderful experience with Melissa and her team. read more

I had a wonderful experience at Modern Trousseau. Nicole, the sales person, was extremely helpful, and my appointment was among the best that I had (and I went to lots of places). The showroom is beautiful; the gowns are lovely and gorgeously made; and the general vibe is relaxed, fun, and easy. I ended up finding my dress here -- one that Nicole suggested that I didn't even try on -- and can't wait to wear it. I went to Modern Trosseau's factory in Connecticut for my allegations and found the service to be amazing as well. It's a pain to get there, but for me, it was worth it. I would not trust this business. I emailed them to schedule an appointment for 2 pm on a Saturday. When I arrived at their Midtown location (with my friends who set aside time to come with me on this appointment) no one was at the showroom. I looked through my email exchange with Emily to make sure I hadn't gotten the day and time wrong (I hadn't) and sent a quick email asking if we were still on for my appointment. No response. I also called the business and left a voicemail (which confirmed their regular hours on Saturday are 10-5 pm). No response. A friendly maintenance man told me no one had arrived at the business all day. My friends and I waited for half an hour and then left. I understand that unforeseen things happen that might prevent someone from coming into work, but at this point it's Monday afternoon and I still have had no contact from the business. I feel like the lack of response is incredibly unprofessional and inconsiderate.I would be wary of ordering your wedding dress from a business that is run this way. It's a big decision, a lot of money, and you should trust who you are buying the dress from. read more

I can't express enough what an amazing experience you will have if you purchase your dress from Modern Trousseau. I went to no less than 10 stores - including Kleinfeld, Amsale, Mark Ingram, and a host of others and bought my gown here! From the moment you enter the showroom, you can sense immediately that this will not be a hard-sell, pressured shopping experience and it doesn't need to be - the gowns/fabrics/accessories are gorgeous and in my opinion, surpass anything I saw at all the other "name" salons. Once you begin to try on gowns - you will be convinced. You can mix/match gown designs or fabrics - so if you like the lace of one gown, but you prefer the silhouette of another - not a problem. Dresses are custom crafted, so you have that freedom here - versus being at the mercy of some designer's "vision" that just may not be quite right for you. Since your gown is made to order, I can promise you that no gown you will find "on the rack" will ever fit this impeccably - no matter where you go or how many fittings you have - the seamstress is still trying to get a "sized" dress to fit YOUR body. With Modern Trousseau, the dress is crafted when you order it, based on YOUR measurements. You then go to their CT facility to have it finalized (train length, bustle, etc.) - I was speechless at how perfectly the gown fit. This made a huge difference on my wedding day - dancing, sitting, standing, bending, walking - all of it was no problem. Many of my friends complained that their gowns were so uncomfortable or inflexible - 90% of that is the fit. To concur with others, Melissa and April were amazing - I came to the showroom 3x "to be sure" that I had settled on the dress I wanted and each time , I received their full attention. I even came back after purchasing my gown to try on accessories with the sample - again, never a problem. The sheer fact that I was able to purchase a custom gown only 3 months prior to my wedding that was handmade here in the U.S. is astounding. I had the most amazing experience buying my wedding dress from Modern Trousseau! From the beginning to end, everything was perfect. Nicole in the showroom is such a sweetheart, and listens to exactly what you want. She gave great advice, and I truly appreciated having her there. Do not trust this company. I did and I ended up with an incomplete wedding gown that will need alterations that were not made clear to me during my measurement appointment. I purchased the lauren gown at their Nashville location and had requested the dress to be made with off the shoulder sleeves. At the Manhattan location I had my measurements taken to the specifications of an off the shoulder measurement, I recieved my gown (without signature required after requesting it..to my abject horror just sitting outside my door?!) without the requested off the shoulder design. I called both locations and was sent to the head Connecticut office where a man named David rudely talked over me while I tried to explain the situation and then put me on a 5 minute hold (where he had a fully audible conversation about renting out space, rent prices, etc.). When he returned to my call he told me it was "just that time of day" whatever that is supposed to mean, I don't know. I proceeded to speak louder to combat his over talking and mansplaining of how dresses are made (I also have a degree in fashion design and a background in special occasion dress making). At this point I was appalled at his attitude as he continued to scream at me and I did have some choice expletives for his tone that I am not proud of. I hung up and was finally able to reach the woman in Nashville to explain what had just happened and to see if there was actually anything they could help with, mainly that they did not disclose the fact that my dress would arrive without the design being intergrated and also why send a bride to speak to that guy (the "designer" not a customer service expert)? After a week of hearing nothing back and being promised she would let me know "by the beginning of the week," I asked for an update. She told me it would be a separate charge and that the gown was made to be altered - to be off the shoulder. This was a surprise once again since everyone I met with made me feel completely confident that my dress would reflect the design I chose. Their helpful response to this obvious mistake? "I'm sorry you feel that way." Well I'm not sorry, because it's valid to feel this way when a shady business readily takes your money and refuses to fix their mistakes, all with a condescending tone. This has been such a huge disappointment and an unnesscary stress for something that should be special and exciting. My dress will never make me feel special beacause of this poorly handled situation & the ridiculously innacurate vocabulary of the staff regarding "design" and "alteration." Buy your dress from people that care & make sure their contract language is clear and protects both parties involved. read more

I had such a wonderful experience with Modern Trousseau. I fell in love with one of the dresses in the showroom in NYC. I asked to make some changes to personalize it even more, and the team in CT did an excellent job adjusting it to what I wanted. It was such such a pleasant experience to be able to come in several times and see the progress .
