What a DELIGHT to dine at Modern Margarita The staff was so caring & our food outstanding!! Waitress Kallie helped by 3/4 blind hubs with a broken leg to booth. Matt the bartender helped him to restroom & back. Then a patron Ron, helped us going out the door. Amazing angels. Plus the shrimp salad was 10x BETTER than Humble Bistro!!! I'm serious! We had begun at HUMBLE BISTRO where the hot shot staff was CRUEL to my blind/lame hubs. He was able to only do a half hour PT before we came here & was disappointed in himself. This outing was huge for us to do. We had to wait. They didn't offer him a chair. We had our service dog with us who laid quietly by the front door with people coming & going. When I saw they were giving a four top to someone who had come in 10 min earlier, left & then back I got up with pouch to ask what gives. The arse said its b/c our dog wasn't behaving. Seriously?!??! My partner and I attended a wine and art festival on High Street. It was a beautiful day and I was thinking a margarita would be a great vibe change from the event. We walked in and seated ourselves at the bar. The goal was a great beverage and some social chemistry. It took several minutes to be recognized at the bar. After a quick scan, I saw several patrons with a disgusted or malaise look on their faces. The staff was huddled at the end of the bar fixated on themselves. While passing the time, I noticed a menu placard that indicated all day happy hour and a tequila of the day (ask server). Given the initial situation observed, I felt that just getting a pour of tequila on ice was the "safe" bet. Eventually, the waitress made her way over. When asked about the tequila of the day, she scoffed and rolled her eyes. She walked over and grabbed the bottle and simply just showed it to me. No verbal input, no real interaction and absolutely NOTHING but attitude. Everyone else at the bar was offered water, a food menu, and eye contact. Got the pour and promptly ignored until we had to literally flag her down. It was NOT busy. I made a comment about the service under my breath and another couple indicated "they are always slow, but this is excessive".... Basically, the only thing they have going for them is location. The food staff was hopping, friendly, and was verbally apologizing for the smallest delay with food. The bar.......best of luck. Lacks anything but a hard time, and the feeling that you're a burden for the basics like a menu, friendly attitude and some social chemistry. I've been to Modern Margarita three times, all for drinks. Located on High Street, parking won't be a problem. You can find a free spot in the garage, one of the surface lots, or on the street. Ambiance (3.5/5): Modern Margarita is a partial open-air concept. Each time, I've sat at the rectangular bar. The bar stools outside have back support. The ones inside don't. So outside is the place I always sit. They have one fire pit in the corner of the patio outside. That's pretty awesome. As well as some booths inside. If you go on a weekend, they might have a DJ. It's not the type of place where you dance, but you will get loud music as part of the experience. Service (2.5/5): The main bartender isn't the friendliest which takes things down a notch for me. He's not terribly attentive either. Seems to just be there and not care much about his job. This has been the case on each of my visits. They also use those electronic devices to take payments (which I hate) rather than the old-fashioned way. Food (N/A): While they do have food, I've been on a liquid diet each time. Drinks (4/5): This is my favorite part about Modern Margarita. As you'd expect, they have a lot of margaritas (including a giant one for multiple people) and tequila-focused drinks. With that being said, it's a full bar so pretty much everything is fair game. They even have beer towers, which is pretty sweet. Pro tip: Stop by on Sunday. My friends decided to meet at Modern Margarita yesterday! We typically don't choose this restaurant because Hulas is next-door and it's usually far better with the food selection and service is usually better! That said... I wanted to change it up because why not, when I arrived to the bar before my friends arrived. I sat there for a good 5 or 7 minutes before anyone even acknowledged I was there. That's always frustrating for me when the bar is pretty slow which it was at the time... No worries I ordered my vodka. It was good and the cheery bartender was very personable when she finally arrived. My friends showed up we continued to visit and they ordered some more drinks... bartender was great! We decided that we wanted to move to a table so we can all talk because our last friend showed up and we were excited to catch up. We haven't seen each other for a while, so we asked the bartender and proceeded to move to a table. This is where our experience at this restaurant completely turned around! Our waitress finally arrived to our table, believe it was almost 10 minutes later, and mind you they were not busy at all! The servers name was Dani, and she, ironically was training a new employee! I found that to be very cute. The young kid was very eager and very helpful. It's a shame that he was paired up with Dani and it was a shame that she is a trainer because the example that she said was absolutely horrible and I hope the kid is a better server than his trainer! From the moment she arrived to the table, she was very put out! We are all very low maintenance people, even if we weren't we didn't need to be treated like we were a complete inconvenience and annoying! A friend of mine had questions because she has food allergies so she had several questions more than an average person. They were all met with an annoyance and a face that wasn't very nice! I felt so bad for my friend! Just sitting there witnessing it and feeling it was not a good experience! In fact, when my friend ordered a drink, the drink was wrong and she had mentioned it to the server and this server pretty much said the drink was made right and you're wrong in her own words! And the kicker to that is, she charged my friend for that drink that she didn't even drink that was made wrong! I had anxiety when she would come to the table because she was clearly so bothered and annoyed being our server! I am sorry that we were there to catch up with our friends and have a good evening, we did order drinks and myself, and my friend ordered food that we ate and somewhat enjoyed... Modern Margarita, please train your staff to give a welcoming experience and maybe if the server would've been interactive and try to talk to us about t bye menu or something maybe we would've gotten some more food or dessert or something. It's not cool to be served by a jaded, tired board, overworked waiter! I honestly didn't want to give a tip, I did tip a custom tip... And I did put a thumbs down for service, which I don't think she was very happy about because she made a snide comments about it... I didn't appreciate that and again, I hope that young kid she was training gets paired up with somebody else so he has a chance at being a good server! I came for dinner with my husband, friends and our two boys during their all day happy hour on Sunday. We started with their chips and queso, my favorite. Their queso is good! My boys got the $7 happy hour cheese quesadilla. Their quesadillas are pretty large so my boys were able to split 1 meal. If you order a cheese quesadilla from the kids menu, the quesadilla is smaller but you get a side of fries with it. My husband, our friends and I split their carne asada quesadilla, carnitas quesadilla and the chicken tinga quesadilla. They all were large and nicely stuffed with cheese and meats. I loved the flavor of the chicken tinga quesadilla. For drinks, we all ordered a margarita. I always prefer a skinny margarita, no salt. I appreciate them having a skinny margarita on their happy hour menu, not a lot of restaurants do that. Usually, restaurants offer only their original margarita on happy hour. This is the place to go for some awesome margaritas and food. I got the margarita flight and the watermelon was my favorite- also got coconut and prickly pear flavors. Very cute display for the flight too. Service was good especially with our big group. Food was bomb - I had shrimp tacos and a mahi taco and yummm, I could eat 10 of them. They were on top of chip and salsa refill, and food came out relatively quick and hot. Very busy restaurant. They also had a taco flight the table next to us got. It was a team party at the Modern Margarita. Since it was a big group, we all decided to sit outside. The service was quick and very friendly. We ordered a lot of things from the menu. For the drink we ordered the margarita flight, hot mango and the Cadillac. We loved all the drinks, it was delicious, strong and really good! For the food I loved the shrimp lettuce wraps, I am a fan. We also enjoyed the fried shrimp taco, lettuce chicken bowl, chicken nachos, wings. The salsa with the nachos was spot on. We had the Elote Dip to start which was light & delicious then the tacos in order from favorite to least favorite would be Miso Carne, Nashville Hot Chicken, & the Korean Beef (but all were super good & just the right amount of flavor).. even the most simple things like the side of rice was tasty! We are new to the Phoenix area and a work colleague told me we should try out Modern Margarita for its vibe and margaritas. We have visited a couple of times on weekends the past few weeks. The drinks and service are very good. Really love the energy. Unfortunately, the place seems to be operating as a sports bar in the evenings and frequently just has baseball or football playing over the speakers and no music. If I wanted to go to a sports bar to watch the game, I'd go somewhere more affordable. Modern Margaritas was suggested by a friend so I thought I would check it out. Went on a Friday night, it was busy but not excessively crowded. I was able to get a seat at the bar. The bartenders were hustling and very attentive. They brought a menu and they had several interesting items. Unfortunately all I had tome for was chips and salsa. They brought out a basket of chips and two salsa, one mild and the other hot. I do like hot salsa and this had a good kick but I mixed it with the mild to bring it down just a bit. The chips were a little gritty and half the basket were was broken into small pieces. I tried a couple margaritas, the hot mango and spicy prickly pear. Both pretty good but a little sweet but in fairness, they were two of the sweetest according to the bartenders. The service was very good and the ambiance and vibe was good. This place was really nice. The whole area is. Shops everywhere. Just walk around. Martini place. Piano place. It's crazy nice area. Nick was the bartender here. Wife had a margarita and it was really good. He ran out of olives and went above and beyond and got some at the restaurant next door. Needless to say I probably didn't tip him enough. lol. we didn't eat but the food coming out of the kitchen looked amazing. I've been coming here since they opened many years ago now! My favorite dish is the pork tacos on corn tortillas. This most recent trip I tried their veggie taco and while pork is still my favorite this comes in a close second!! The kicker is they put goat cheese in the veggie taco. So, the food is not at all bad. The tacos are decent, especially the more fusion oriented flavors. The queso is a solid accompaniment. The drinks are reasonably strong and tasty, and on Monday they're a full $3 off. But good lord, the service STINKS. We waited over an hour for tacos. Each round of drinks took 20+ minutes. I have to give a shout out to Modern Margarita. I was visiting for the weekend and I literally ate here all three days I am given a five star because of the food. The food is delicious. I ordered the Maui Maui tacos grilled I have to say that the guacamole is really good. However when it comes to the chips, I feel like the first batch they give you are a little bit too oily and a lot of broken ones versus the second batch of chips. They're full body chips. when it comes to their cocktails, very delicious I ordered a regular margarita no sugar no salt day two I ordered a passion, kiwi passion margarita If I'm ever in town, I definitely will be back here's a few pictures below. A man fell off of his barstool and was unresponsive. Management did nothing. There was a nurse there as a guest and she rushed to his help. They called paramedics and she did everything that management wouldn't or ignored to do. Her and her friend took control of the situation and probably saved this guys life. Worst part. The girls didn't even get to finish their drinks because of this and they were then presented with a bill. This place is trash and run by trash. Way to go modern margarita. We've been in a handful of times. A couple weeks ago we came to watch the Suns game on a Sunday and it was so much fun. They had all the TVs on the game and the sound on. The place was busy but not crowded, just what I prefer. However, we went back this week on Monday to watch the Suns game and it was a completely different experience. We had to ask to get the game on, they did end up putting it on a few TVs. We asked for the sound since it seemed a lot of people were watching but our server said the shift manager refused, she claimed it was too difficult to switch the audio from the loud music.. idk but if you're a manager I'd think you should learn how to manage the sound system? The food is pretty good. The queso is where it's at. We love the nachos with some added guac and salsa Verde. The margaritas are good, I like the og or the rustico. Staff is nice and attentive. The staff weren't the most polite... and whoever didn't want Salt on their margaritas, always got salt . Not everyone at our table had phones, and let's be real... the older people cant even see the writing on theirs... its time to get some real menus (Togo menus at least?!) back in the restaurant please. We ordered tacos. First one I ate was the carnitas with pineapple salsas, it was really good. I went to try my miso fish taco next, first bite came back with two (2) long light brown hair. The grossest thing ever to experience in any restaurant! I stopped eating at that point. We let our waiter know, we did not make a stink at all and paid for everything we ordered. The meat is extremely bland and dry, reminds me of cat food. Food was cold, not warm but cold. There was nothing Mexican about the rice, just regular white rice with some corn in it, no flavor at all. Beans, straight out the can, no flavor at all. I had the OG margarita, it was tasty.
