Got a wicked problem with my Macan that's got air suspension (compressor pump aging) Looked FOR EVER for an indy mechanic in the SF Bay Area who has a Porsche PIWIS2.0 or higher and really know how to deal with the closed system air suspension pump replacement, nitrogen refill, and reinitializing. Placed a bounty here on Yelp and NO ONE knew what I was (or they were) talking about. Lucky I was referred to them by Dan at my trusty old 911 shop RMG who won't work w Macans. Called Modderman Service and Steve who picked up the phone knew exactly what I was talking about and I went to check them out. Right at that time they were dealing with a Panamera with a badly deflated air suspension and I knew I came to the right place. The turnaround was extremely fast. After moving to the bay area, i had tried Redwood City Porsche for my annual service and i was completely disappointed by the service, as they ended up damaging my glove compartment slow open mechanism and i had to take time out of my busy schedule to take the car back in service. I have to shout loud to Steve. My car's water bump has some problem which cannot cool the engine down. So it had smoke when I'm planning to drive my friend to SFO. Local Porsche dealer had diagnosed an oil leak in my 2014 Diesel Cayenne, with a repair estimate of nearly $20K. I took it to Moderman for a second opinion, and their mechanic found no evidence of a leak, charged me for 30 min service ( under $200). I'll let you do the math on the savings. Steve totally saved my bacon and what a nice guy! The day before I was leaving the country for a couple of weeks the battery died in my 911s. If the battery dies completely its a royal pain having to connect a battery to the fuse panel to gain access to the frunk and the battery. Steve changed the battery while I waited on a Friday afternoon and now I don't have to worry about the car while I am away. The dealer wanted 1100 dollars to change a battery, Modderman was less than half the cost and did it on the spot. Great service and nice people. read more

One of my friends invited me to attend a NASA Pro Racing event on June 28, 2009 at Infineon Raceway in Sonoma, CA. This sounds like fun so I signed up for the HPDE-1, paid the membership fee, and thought this was it. In preparation for this driving class, all drivers must have an approved SA2005 helmet, a vehicle OK'ed for track, and maintain appropriate rules and guidelines. I read the pages and pages of rules and finally purchased my helmet on-line. And last, I needed to find a place to Inspect my car and OK it for track use. I called a few approved places on the racing website that were local, and the only person to answer on a Friday afternoon at 4:15pm was Modderman Service. The shop doesn't open weekends, but opens until 5pm on weekdays. I told him I could stop in by 5:00pm on Monday and he said he'll be there. I didn't bother to look at his website until I made the appointment and when I did, I noticed his shop was a Porsche Specialist. When I arrived at the shop on Monday afternoon, I was greeted promptly and David came out to see me. David knew exactly what he was looking for and performed a thorough inspection of my BMW. He signed off on the School Technical Inspection Form and gave me some parting advice, "Make sure you keep the shiny side up!" David was in a hurry for another appointment and when he drove by my parked car, he gave me a little toot from his classic Porsche. If I were in the market to buy a Porsche and I do like the Carrera 4s, I would definitely bring my car in for service with David Modderman. read more

Do take your care here. The owner drives, races and works on Porsche exclusively. I brought my car here for an inspection before I purchased it from a private party. They spent time and asked a lot of questions about the car before even looking at it. Although there is never a guarantee on a used car buy, they provided a great service to help prevent making a big mistake through their thorough analysis. My impression based on the questions they were asking and the presentation of the results was that they are experts on Porsche cars. They also gave me good trouble shooting advice and what preventative measures to take to maintain optimal performance. They get 5 stars for diagnostic and minor service work. I will add the 5th star for the overall rating when I see how they do with modification work. Update: I decided to leave my car stock. I still rate this shop five star for their thorough guidance and explanation of servicing and proper maintenance and car care. read more
