Came here on a Friday night looking to go out to eat but not spend a fortune on a fancy meal. MOD pizza is in a strip mall that just got a facelift.. And they did a good job! We ordered a few pizzas, but it definitely took a while for them to make it. I can see why people say it's like a bottleneck during busy hours. Seemed like some people were still learning what to do, but they all put plenty of toppings on my pizza (and that's all that matters). The pizza was great... Thin, crispy and even the crust was good. We ordered a side salad, which was actually huge...regardless, it was fresh and had the perfect amount of dressing tossed in. Overall the food was great. Pros: Food was fresh, Store was clean. Soda water in the fountain. Cons: They forgot to add bacon to my pizza when they remade it (apparently something happened to my first pizza in the oven). They don't recycle (told us to throw our glass bottle from our soda should just go in the trash). What an excellent concept for a pizza place. I am sure there are other make your own pizza places but I am not sure they have the amount of choices and quality ingredients that this place has. Very friendly service and a very clean eating area. I made up a pesto pizza with chicken and peppers it was cooked perfectly and had a crisp crust that stood up to my toppings. This is a great "mod"ern pizza place. The ordering experience is similar to Subway, you pick your crust then all of the toppings. Expect the cooking process to take about five minutes and another minute for it to cool off. I would suggest thinking about what you want before going in there. I was so happy to stumble across Mod Pizza in the Gateway Shopping Center. This was my first time, and Brittany was very helpful. She showed me the different sizes for pizza and salad. She explained that there are options on the menu or you can just order it exactly the way you want with as many toppings as desired all for one price. The crust is thin and crispy. The salad was good, too. I'll definitely be back again and recommend this for an easy meal. They play good music. There are tall tables, regular tables, and booths. Mods used to be my favorite place to go but now it seems like they can even get a pizza right. Thought me and my hubs could stop by for a quick dinner after work, grabbed our pizzas curbside as usual, only to get home and see a bunch of basil and feta cheese all over my fig glazed pizza. This was my second time at MOD pizza. The first time I had no idea what I was walking into. I didn't realize it was a made to order place and I got overwhelmed by the options. I ended up with a basic plain pizza. It was good but nothing to be remembered for. My coworker recently asked to go there and I thought I would give it another chance. This time, I went with a recommended pizza instead of a customized one. This pizza had mozzarella, roasted red peppers and pesto on it. The employees still interrupt you in the middle of your order to shout at an unsuspecting, entering customer across the 1,500+ sqft restaurant, but the cleanliness of the restaurant now is downright nasty. I saw an employee try to identify what sauce was in a bottle by essentially shoving a barbecue sauce bottle up his nostril and for some reason the restaurant thinks it's sterile to place all the finished pizzas directly on this nasty looking countertop with a layer of grime before they are transferred to your plate. It's honestly a miracle this place hasn't been condemned by the health inspector yet. Sorry, but I will be taking my business to places where the risk of eating a booger or catching Zika is zero. I'm a regular here, so much so that even some of the employees know it's me (Nick J). Ask them and you'll know. My experience has been positive with this location until today. I placed an online order for a pizza like usual and waited for like half hour. The usual pickup time online is about 15 minutes once the order has been received. I waited over half hour cuz I'd noticed that there's only two people working and I didn't mind waiting a few extra mins. But even after waiting over half hour they didn't even make my pizza let alone put it in the oven. Customers who came after me got their pizzas ready and left but they didn't care about mine. The girl taking care of the oven must be new and having a really hard time even putting it in the right box while the other one making the pizza, I wouldn't hire her for anything. Even when I asked to cancel my order they didn't even bother to apologize or offered to make it right away. Instead they just went ahead and canceled and even for that I had to wait a few mins. Pizza is naturally pretty thin. But all of the ingredients are fresh and local. The red sauce is in house and only made here, also available for purchase. The teas and lemonades are also made locally in the store, the blackberry lemonade is the best! Also, the employees are so so friendly and very knowledgeable of the menu and where the ingredients come from. The people that work here are paid above minimum wage and encouraged to be who they are and portray their personality. The pizzas are all the same prices, and come with various toppings. I have eaten here 3 times. Every time there has been a long line, requiring a 15+ minutes wait to order. There is a good selection of toppings, but after you finally get to select them, you wait another 10-15 minutes for your pizza. They are generally disorganized and poorly managed. On one occasion, my pizza was given to another customer, and I had to wait for another. At least it was comped. The pizza itself is tasty. Then you're in the wrong place.MOD Pizza lets you customize your pizza, with as many or as little toppings as you want, for one price. It brings the Chipotle fast casual model of being able to pick & select toppings to pizza and then bake it in front of you -- this is the point. This means your pizza will take longer and it might not be as authentic as a traditional Italian pizza. But it lets you go on an adventure, trying different toppings that you would not otherwise try, and being able to control how much of each topping you get. They have gluten-free crusts & dairy-free cheese for those with allergies, but be aware that they only have one oven for all the pizzas so cross-contamination is a potential problem. If you come with those expectations in mind, you'll love MOD Pizza and that's how I'm giving them four stars. But if you come with different expectations, be aware that MOD Pizza might not be perfect for you. read more

I hate that this location is in the Gateway Shopping Center. I can forget about coming here on my lunch break because it is insane trying to get out of that parking lot. We came on a Saturday night and it was pretty empty. I like the fact that you only have to pay the base price for your pizza and you can get unlimited toppings on it without being up charged. I was a little overwhelmed by the amount of toppings. I decide to get the "Dillon James" which is similar to a margherita pizza. I added arugula and some spicy sausage on it. After they bake it, it goes to another station where you can get your cooked pizza "topped off" with a drizzle of sauce if you would like. I decided to get fig drizzle because I love fig even though it probably doesn't mesh well with margherita style. To me it all tasted good together though. However, after I started eating it I realized they completely forgot to put tomato on it which came with that style of pizza. I didn't feel like telling them about it because it was already cooked. The normal pizza is quite thin and was kind of burnt around the edges but that did not bother me. I think you can opt to get a thicker pizza instead. I was pleasantly surprised to see that their fountain soda is super cheap - only $2! I got one of the home made lemonades. It was good, but a little too sweet for my liking. I really liked it. Never want to bury the lead, but I guess the five stars kind of gave it way. I'm not really into chains, either in restaurants or in my personal life, but I heard of this interesting new hot concept and wanted to give it a try. Plus, there's only two in the area, so I'm not sure it counts as a chain yet. Anyway, I really liked it. You walk in to a fairly minimal practical industrial type space. The selections are pick your own, kind of what someone might have called a Chipolte style menu, six months ago. Nobody's using that comparison right now. They assemble your pizza right there for you. You pick your toppings, a few or many, all the same price. They also have some suggested "classic" combinations. I got the Mad Dog, cheese, sauce, pepperoni, sausage. Then I added olives, spinach, and artichoke hearts. They put it all together on fresh dough, and pop it in a brick oven. The pizza is good. It's thin crust, but it's very tasty, and it's exactly what I wanted. The price was good. Bonus points? The staff was very friendly, and seemed almost relaxed, unusual for any restaurant. There were lots of tatts, and beards, and blue hair highlights on the staff, so violating the judgement of books by covers, it seemed like an artsy group. That's cool. Artsy people tend to take pride in what they do when given a chance. Their play list was great! Which is to say lots of music this middle aged white guy really enjoyed. Surprising? Well it was mostly late seventies, early eighties alt rock. Now good music alone can't make a meal, but bad music can certainly ruin it. So mostly good pizza! Add friendly cool staff, a comfortable, if minimal, atmosphere and I'd say that it's a great place to grab a meal. Okay, the elephant in the room. You'd have to be crazy to open a pizza place in Philly. There's just so many good options already. I don't know if MOD will stay in the 'Burbs or invade the city, but it's good stuff done well. I personally enjoy adding Brussels sprouts and chickpeas to mine, complete with dairy free cheese and a fig glaze. A satisfying meal at an affordable price! The style in which you order is very similar to Chipotle, and it works well. With a hip atmosphere, it's the perfect "anytime" spot to grab a bite to eat. This is also a great place to take the vegan/vegetarian in your life. Oh my!!! I tried this pizza for the first time last month and I am now a MOD addict!!!! No other pizza I eat now meats yes I said meats their standards!! Where can you go to get 7 toppings and not be charged extra!! I get the mod size for $8.34 incl tax. I liked the pesto the best and my husband liked the spicy sauce. The pizza crust is way thin. From other reviews it seems it could be hit or miss if yours gets burnt.
