Recently moved to the Downingtown area. Spatola's pizza is spectacular but tried their chicken parm dinner last night and it was amazing! Nothing fancy, two large cutlets fried perfectly, nice and I mean NICE amount of mozz melted on top with their pasta sitting underneath in a take-out container! Can't beat the price and I think the best in the area and I have had a few. This is up there with La Verona's in Kennett! Can't wait to try their other meals they offer! read more

Yet another gem in Malvern. I went with a few friends to eat and the pizza taste and uniqueness surprised me. Let's start with the pizza; we got a Trenton style pizza which is thin in the crust but packs a punch in flavor. Never had the style before but, I found it delicious. We also got a few sandwiches; a cheesesteak and Italian hoagie. I didn't get to try the hoagie but did get the cheesesteak. I thought it was ok; wouldn't be my first choice if I was to go back. Place is very chill and homie; staff is chill and there is a very calming vibe; you just come in eat and relax, pay at the end and leave. If you're in the mood for a real Italian joint, and something a little different as far as slices, go to Spatola's. I usually get the Trenton pizza, which is the best around, along with their garlic knots - sorry Anthony's and Tonino's you're good at other stuff. This is also where I fix my cheesesteak, buffalo chicken cheesesteak and tuna hoagie cravings. Really solid pizza spot. Cheesesteaks were pretty good too- good cheese to meat ratio (however, could have used for onions when ordered with). The Trenton pie is worth the wait/effort and their paninis are pretty good too. Delivery and pickup experiences have all been decent. I would say this spot does a gourmet/special pie really well compared to a plain pie but either and all are tasty. It's a little on the pricier side but I would call it worth it. read more

you really have to know what to order here. I ordered penne pasta and eggplant parm for pickup last week. The pasta was fine but eggplant parm did not taste good at all and had virtually no mozzerella cheese on it. i gave some to my mother who didn't like it either so I threw the whole thing out. Salad was fine. prior to that i ordered cheesesteak and cheeseburger. the cheesesteak just didn't taste right. Cheeseburger was fine though. The one thing consistently good is italian hoagie. The prices are also very expensive. they wanted $17 for pasta and one meatball. I told them to forget the meatball which they were charging about $5. When i used to go up there it was always very busy with people coming and going. Not so much anymore. I get the feeling people are seeing what I'm seeing. There really isn't any other pizza places where they are located so i think people go there out of convenience. read more

A do not miss pizza place if you are anywhere within an hour! Their Trenton pie is fantastic, and I can feel my mouth watering as I'm typing this! The staff is friendly and obviously takes a somewhat understated pride in their product. It really comes across if you mention to them how good their food is. I'd say the ambiance is pretty much standard pizza joint, but you crony come to Spatola's for the decorations. You come to eat way too much Trenton style pizza! Trenton Style 8.2/10 Very fresh tasing sauce (a bit sweet), good outside crispy crust. The bottom of the crust has some flop. Thickness is between deep dish and your normal slice. Better fresh than reheated (Not always the case with pizza). Not your run in the-mill pizza places. Definitely worth a try. read more

Meh. Not bad, but I don't see the big deal. Average pizza, at best. If this is truly 'the best pizza on the mainline" as I have seen claimed, then I can't imagine how bad/mediocre the other offerings are in the area. First, having just moved from Bucks County (just outside of Trenton), and having prior to that lived in Jersey City and worked in NYC, I have tasted a lot of different and solid pizza offerings. Perhaps having average tasting pizza 60-90 minutes away from that aforementioned region of quality pizza is a big deal though, and I just didn't realize how good I had it there. Pricing- It sure is "the mainline," with a large plain pizza going for $1.50 more than Bucks County/Central NJ, and cheesesteaks costing $1.15 more for no good reason. While the wings are admittedly more expensive due to supply chain issues at the moment (Covid and/or general demand related), there is no good reason for that much of a premium on a basic cheesesteak or pizza other than because of where they are made. While I'm not price sensitive from a personal finance perspective, a dollar here and a dollar there still adds up over time; better in my pocket at the end of the day. Maybe the premium lies in some perceived special mineral content of the "mainline" water used. Nah, let's just call it what it is and be done with it: a mainline tax. Also, I see a lot of noise being made about their "Trenton" pizza, which is colloquially called a tomato pie in/around Trenton, Philly proper, and their burbs. The "Trenton" thing is the same trope as when non-NYC restaurants refer to margherita pizza as "Brooklyn" pizza, then you go to Brooklyn and find that is not what 99.9% of the pizza offerings are. That said, 99.9% of the pizza in Trenton is just traditional, regular old 8 slices and round with the cheese on top of the sauce. And, authentic tomato pie (which is still just pizza if it has cheese, regardless of it being over or under the sauce, or room temp tomato bread if it has no cheese) from Trenton isn't served Sicilian style- it's round. Would I go there again? While it's only a few minutes away, it makes for a convenient drive, but given the price premium for just average taste, I'll shop around for a yet to be determined go-to spot. The staff I dealt with were nice/polite and professional. read more

Spatola's Pizza has been our go to pizza ever since we ordered from them for our son's Eagle Scout celebration and folks were waxing lyrical about the food. It never disappoints. It is always beautifully cooked and perfectly seasoned. The staff are delightful and it is a pleasure to order from them. The main line west of Philly has plenty of ordinary pizza, made of mass-sourced ingredients. After hearing good things about Spatola's, I stopped in for 2 slices at lunch. It is a small space, just six stool seats along a window counter. But the pies were top flight. I was keen on the Trenton style (square pie, thin crust, plum tomatoes and standard mozz), so I ordered a slice and a more conventional NY slice, topped with sauce, regular mozz, diced tomato, and what looked like spots of bufalo mozza but may have been ricotta. Anyhow, both slices had a very thin crust that had a wonderful crispness, and was somehow sturdy enough to support a generous cheese and sauce topping. Now, every pizza tastes good, so I generally discriminate by texture. These had my ideal texture - no tip sag, no need to fold it to eat it. But more importantly, they had a savory balance of sauce, cheese, crust that made it the tastiest pizza in my memory. I expected to like the Trenton slice, and I loved it. I expected less of the NY slice, but it may have been even better. One other reviewer complained that it was greasy, and my NY slice was. But I don't seek out pizza as diet food; the grease imparts flavor and I welcome it, whether it oozes from the cheese or is added olive oil. This was a great find and, near my office, a go-to pizza place. I did meet the owner and we chatted; he is from Sicily. I ordered a Trenton pie to go, and he was reluctant to fulfill my request for meat topping -- "Why mess with perfection?" he asked. We spoke about balance and he understands that simple is often best (a lesson I learned in Rome, too). An easy, well-earned five stars. read more

Great Pizza! Great Service! On my last visit i ordered two pies for my clients and three teens devoured 16 slices of pizza! Whether it's the Paoli location or Downingtown, the customer service time after time is on point! While my group devoured pizza I enjoyed slice of the Brooklyn and a house salad. For only $4.76, I was shocked by the generous portion and quality. Bonus...I received 2 garlic knots with a side of marinara. Y U M. Pizza Suggestion : Try the Trenton and Brooklyn. Ordered a small pepperoni pizza and arugula, strawberry and grill chicken salad with walnuts all I have to say is the food was amazing the garlic knots they give you with the salads are out of his world. Pizza crust is thin and has that taste that makes you want more. Delivery was on point very quick and perfect during Covid-19. I will definitely order again just moved in the area from the KOP town center to Malvern and had to check this place out heard so much about it. Aside from the horrendous parking situation, this place is pretty darn good. It's essentially a take out joint with a variety of fast food Italian items - pizza, salad, Stromboli, etc. I've order from here many times for lunch and have no complaints. Spatola's does pizza RIGHT. They moved into a bigger storefront about a year ago and it's a FANTASTIC upgrade. You walk in and you can see a bunch of different types of pizza to choose from... and all the options are wonderful. The menu has a lot more than pizza... and I've never had food here that I didn't enjoy. Also... they're good people... We had a group meet here in the summer every Thursday and they REALLY took care of us. (Reserved the tables, lowered the TV volume, etc etc...) They also saved by bacon when I had a group dinner and the planned meal fell through... they whipped up a tray of ravioli and a tray of salad and delivered it.
