The service was alright, it took a short time and the server was decently friendly. For the ambiance, the tables were dirty, but the person who had been cleaning them cleaned ours right before we sat down. Nice! The bathroom was clean. THE best part of the ambiance was the neat Walnut Creek mountain drawing. I was so attached to the pizza I took a photo. Shout out to my boy Albie. Overall, 7/5 stars. How can you tell if a restaurant is properly maintained? Start by checking the bathrooms. For instance, the wallpaper is peeling down to the floor, creating a tripping hazard. The toilets haven't been cleaned in weeks, as evidenced by the acid rings forming around the bowl. One bathroom stall had fecal matter, and two out of the three stalls were filthy. Additionally, the bathroom floor hasn't been appropriately mopped, and good luck finding any paper towels to dry your hands after washing them. If the bathrooms are not being maintained, it raises concerns about the cleanliness of the area where your food is prepared. The maintenance of both spaces is interconnected because employees use those bathrooms before handling your food. ***3.5 Stars*** I truly do enjoy MOD Pizza. I'm a huge fan of the fast casual create-your-own wood fired pizza spots these days. And while quite a few of these pizza chains have popped up over the years, MOD has been and still is my favorite of the bunch. I've been to the Veranda location a few times, but recently stopped by this location in the Orchards. I love that this location has an actual outside patio space. The interior is super clean and spacious (although closed during COVID right now). I placed an online order for a custom mega pizza. Normally I'm pretty boring when it comes to pizza and will be completely satisfied with a plain cheese pie. I know, I know... boring as hell. But, something about a classic cheesy pizza just... does it for me. However on this particular night, I felt like adding some meat and veggies to the mix. I requested Asiago and mozzarella cheese with Canadian bacon, sausage, olives, diced tomatoes, and fresh chopped basil with a special request of light on the olives and heavy on the cheese. My pizza was still in the oven when I arrived, but it only took about 5 minutes or so before it was ready. They definitely heeded my special request, but I noticed that they forgot to add the sausage. When I brought this to their attention, the young man at the counter offered to put the sausage on and place it back in the oven. I was kind of pressed for time at that point and just asked him if he could give them to me on the side. Not sure how they forgot the sausage in the first place because it was clearly shown on both receipts, but hey... mistakes happen. At least they tried to rectify the situation as best they could. Aside from this little mishap, the pizza was still really tasty and super cheap at less than $10 for an 11" mega. The cheese was nicely melted and the flavors were on point. For a fast casual personal sized pizza, it definitely hit the spot. It's MOD, so there's no doubt in my mind that I'll be stopping by again at some point. Pros: The workers are friendly. Cons: First, PLEASE train the manager on duty each shift to enforce the "no dogs in eating establishments" rule that is mandatory in Contra Costa County. A disheveled couple and their huge dog were in line ahead of us. It is just gross. And no, this was not a service animal. The other problem is that even when there was no line, none of the four employees came by to clean the dirty tables piled with dishes, not the wet mess on the floor behind us. I work in the Shadelands shopping center and Mod is one of our go to lunch spots. We find it simple and easy to order online and customize our meals. The food is always ready at the requested pick up time and still hot when we get back to our workplace. The quality is consistent and I like that I can switch up my order and know it'll still be good. I like that you can get the sauce drizzled on it or get it on the side at pick up. So im reupdating my review aa the first one was the wrong location and now I have legitimite review. They did mess my order uo, something with ordering a cauliflower crust pizza really throws it off on the app. Im about 50/50 that ill get it. My son is on a stict keto diet due to his adhd (no sugar or carbs) and it helps him a lot in focusing. We ordered through the app as this location is just down the street from him swim practice. By the time we got home it was regular crust. I coulsnr get through the phone so the next day i called and the manager handled my issue. I was browsing the menu when the staff told me I could choose whatever I wanted to add. There's unlimited free toppings!!! Whoa! Total game changer! I got a pesto and white sauce base...yep, two sauces! Then added a ton of other toppings! It's sort of like Kramer's idea for a pizza place on Seinfeld where you build your own pie, except you don't need to get your hands dirty. You just dictate everything you want, how much, and most crucially where. I made one slice of mine with anchovies, another some with pineapple, etc. You don't need to put all the toppings all over the pie. Divvy that up and create your own ideal slices! So awesome! The staff was super accommodating; there wasn't any one else behind us. It was a slow night. After the pie comes out, you can add an extra sauce if you like. More pesto drizzled on top please! Yum! I wish they had ranch to dip in or like a garlic aioli. I didn't ask... Maybe they did! So the pizza itself is ready in like 3 minutes or something. It's fast. The crust however is more like a cracker my husband said. It's super thin and crunchy. It's not exactly how I like my pizza. I'm a foldable NYC slice kind of gal. I've never seen a MOD Pizza store as huge as this one. On top of that, I thought the store looked pretty clean, neat, organized, and well-maintained. Also, I was happy that staff at this location were friendly and they worked pretty fast and efficiently as well. As for the food, I thought the pizza was great. The crust especially was really good - perfect thin-ness without being too crispy. I'm not sure if they had recently changed their crust dough but it felt and tasted so much better than I remembered. And the toppings tasted pretty fresh. For the "build your own" pizza, they were pretty generous with the amount of toppings that they put on your pizza, which is always a plus. A regular-sized pizza was priced at slightly above $10 as of April 2022. My overall experience at this location was pretty great. I am not a big fan of the parking lot for this plaza, though. I always think the shape of the lot is a bit irregular, making the entire area feel so cluttered and confusing. But that's not MOD Pizza's fault. read more

For someone that's never been here before, they didn't take the time to explain the process. The girl working was rushing me to pick my toppings. After having coffee with a friend earlier this afternoon at the nearby Starbucks, I spotted activity in front of the new MOD Pizza. Being a good cop, I decided to investigate further. As it turned out, a couple staff members were handing out flyers advertising their soft opening today (11/7). They gave me one and told me to check them out during dinnertime, as they had just wrapped up their lunchtime test run. For those of you not familiar with the area, this MOD Pizza is in the new shopping center called The Orchards, located at the corner of Ygnacio Valley Road and Oak Grove Road. MOD Pizza is the first business to the left if you enter from the Oak Grove Road side. My brother and I went back during dinnertime. At around 6:30pm, there was a sizable crowd inside already. Interior was spacious and clean. Wooden benches, tables, and booths made up all the seating inside. A montage of people eating at different MOD locations made up most of the decor. We got in line and started looking at the menu. The ordering system is very similar to the ones at other Chipotle-type pizza joints (i.e. Pieology). You pick the size (mini-$5.27, MOD-$8.27, mega-$11.27) and load it up with whatever you want. If you don't like the pressure of creating your own, you can choose one from their classic pizzas list. Once your pizza is ready, they will call your name. Here's what they can improve on. I was sitting somewhere far away from the counter so it was hard to hear my name being called. A PA system would be very useful here. They do have wine and beer if you like an alcoholic beverage to go with your pizza. They also have salads and bread strips (savory or sweet). My brother ordered a "Mad Dog" (red sauce, mozzarella, pepperoni, mild sausage, and ground beef) and I opted to created my own. I liked the pizza crust. It was light and crispy. The red sauce was tangy and the produces were fresh. The meats were okay. I wasn't expecting them to use premium stuff anyway. The staff was very cheerful and energetic. Everyone I encountered tonight was friendly and helpful. Although they still need to work on some minor kinks, overall they have made a very good first impression on me. First time here! So happy we could eat indoors, finally! There are tables blocked for social distancing! looks very clean. So, i would give this place a 5 star for the food but i had to lower stars do to the staff. How to put it nicely? Please ask your team to wear proper undergarments! It just does not look professional. Short shorts do not look cool either! Overall the staff looked not very well put together although very friendly. Also neck hickies look awful and do not give the restaurant a good look! There were many employees behind the counter and they did not seem very organized.
