I have always loved Mochinut when we have traveled so I was excited when they announced they were coming to town. The flavors of the doughnuts and the quality of the cheese dog were on point as always. Black Sesame and Ube, always welcome in my book! The one person working wasn't very friendly and I figure that is because they have an entirely electronic ordering system. Well, the ordering system does not work well at all. The short line moved very slowly and one of the kiosks wouldn't take payment. The shop was also pretty messy (and sticky) so I would recommend taking it to go (which we did). And sadly, my Ube doughnut was so ugly with the icing ripped off, stuck to the paper, that I didn't even take a picture. That being said, I understand they they are still new and I will absolutely be going back. I finally went after months of people buzzing and waiting longer in line. Perfect! there was no line on a Friday night. We came in, employees are all inside, nobody greeted us and just ordered in their screen. We tried the Ube, Strawberry Matcha, and Black Sesame Seed. Still no one is outside, they are hiding in the kitchen. When we got our order, there were no napkins around the counter, we have to ask for the employee. I like the mochi bread, but the Ube is overpowering like sugar and super sweet tastes like artificial sugar. Strawberry Matcha basically a strawberry pocky and match mochi donut. The Black Sesame surprised me because it has a perfect balance not too sweet yet delightful. There are few tables inside the store. I've tried other Mochinut locations and I was very underwhelmed by the Mochinut Reno. The manager said there was a long wait because they make all the food fresh. When I got my donuts and corndog, they weren't hot. Donuts were fairly cold & my corndog was luke warm. My drink was very sweet which is no biggy- I added water to it. When you go in, there are 4 kiosks to self order but two of them are only for coconut jelly so of course being my first time in, I walked up to the wrong kiosk. They need a large and clear sign not little sticky notes. Also the music is super loud so it is so hard to hear your order number being called. It gets 2 stars because even when it's not cooked all the way, it's hard to make a mochi donut not taste good. But I waited probably 15 minutes for 3 donuts, for them to be basically raw when I took my first bite at home. Every time I travel to a city that has a mochinut, I stop and get some. So I was really excited when I heard Reno would finally be getting a location. I was unfortunately disappointed that the one to open in my town, is the worst one I've had. My Korean corn dog was also very small in size in comparison to the ones I've gotten in different locations all over the US. They hyped this for months on social media. First to announce a Sept 2024 opening. Nothing. Then the soft opening and grand opening actually occurred in mid-January 2025. They posted on social media that they'd be open at 9am all weekend. Then Saturday 1/18 /25 they didn't open until 4pm. Sunday 1/19 was another delayed opening without any announcement on their socials. What this operator and/or the franchise owner apparently fail to understand is that people are paying the astronomical prices for a whole experience, not just a single donut or corndog or bubble tea product. Went in on 1/28/2025. There was no line outside but the inside was pretty full. The owner didn't tell anyone how they needed to order and it was just the customers helping anyone that came in. The owner didn't do much but call numbers for ready orders (which did not come out very quickly) and sat on the phone. Every time an order came out, he would call the customer's number the owner would tell the customers their corn dogs were cold because they had been sitting for too long and they would need to microwave them to heat them back up. But the orders weren't ever sitting on the counter too long. I attempted to order on a device but you couldn't get all of the food options on the first device that I tried. I went to another device and was able to order 6 donuts. I then waited an hour to get my 6 donuts that were already cooked just sitting on trays in the back that I could see from the waiting area. The workers would not serve pre prepared food to get customers out quicker and would just serve in a first come first serve basis. It made absolutely no sense to not serve pre prepared food to customers that didn't order items that needed to be prepared or cooked. If someone is only ordering donuts then they really shouldn't wait for so long to get their orders like any other donut shop that you go to. I did get 6 different flavored donuts and most were okay but 2 weren't strongly liked by all in my house. read more
