How have I never reviewed this place? We lived about 1.5 miles from this location years ago and we came back into town for spring break and my first requirement? Doughboys donut holes with sprinkles! Why are they so crunchy and delicious? Our kids don't remember but now they're converts and insist we go back once more before we leave town. My son wants to buy as many that fit into his carry-on. I've been visiting this Doughboys location since it first opened when I was just a young kid. This place is consistently serving up some of the best doughnuts in the Reno-Sparks area. This location is small with just a few tables, but the doughnuts are plentiful! Apple fritter and buttermilk bars from here are two of my faves. My kids like the large selection of classic sprinkle options. They also have a small selection of milk, juices and coffees. Very friendly people here plus a drive thru for the ultimate convenience! I've been to this area multiple times but this is the first time I've stepped foot inside Doughboys Donuts. We walked into the shop a little late in the day, there wasn't anyone inside except for the employees and it seemed the shop was getting ready to close for the night, but after we walked through the door, an influx of other customers walked in and all of sudden the empty shop had a queue. The staff took the sudden wave of customers in stride and were super-accommodating to everyone who walked in. For my first visit, the staff left me with a very good first impression; the donuts still look very tempting, especially the apple-fritters. Quality/Quantity - Wow, just realized it is time for an update. As you can tell from my pictures, we are loyal customers. We get our consistent weekly order, cut the donuts in half (so the kids do not get over sugared up. Yes, they can grab two halves, lol...). These folks are service oriented. Upon entering, I had a couple folks in line ahead of me. Two staffers stepped up to the counter to take orders from all three of us simultaneously. I didn't see a chocolate cruller in the display case and asked...two left! The place is clean and decorated for Christmas to include window paintings. The crullers are thoroughly cooked, have that eggy flavored dough, and the icing was not completely dry- still somewhat liquid under the top glaze. Had a decent chocolate flavor. I would come back. When you find that place that makes amazing donuts, it becomes the only place where you can buy donuts. Doughboy Donuts is that place (for me). While I'm sure the recipes are the same across their three locations, I personally think the South Reno location on Damonte is the best. When we used to come to Truckee (from the Bay Area), we would drive all the way to Damonte Ranch, just for Doughboy Donuts. They are that good. They make donuts throughout the day so they are fresh when ever you come. They have late hours, closing at 8pm (check hours). My favorite are the Glazed Raised and Glazed Twist. Rude service every single visit. From employees treating new arrivals at the drive-thru before any counter service, to employees chatting with each other instead of serving customers, to flat out wrong orders, this place is staffed by some of the rudest people I've ever encountered. Nobody wants to cashier here. I tip 30% routinely on my bi-weekly visits and these folks are still pissed off every time I go in there. The doughnuts are standard fare - nothing exceptional over the worst donut you've ever had, nor do they stand out from the best donut you've ever had. The parking lot is rather unfortunately situated so the drive through spills-out into a turn late right in front of a stop sign, so traffic jams are to be expected in the morning, and the few high tables in the shop are definitely indicative they don't want loiterers. Of my few experiences shopping here - Absolutely ignored by staff to continue their own conversation (today's visit) - only person in line, waiting, and two of them are looking at me but continuing to talk to each other rather than engage with me. Charged me for 4 donuts (when I only purchased 3) as a penalty for interrupting their mid-morning break, I guess? Had someone walk away from the counter on me to help prepare a meal in the back, leaving FOH for drive-through work with an extensive line and customers buying multiple dozens of donuts. Employee threw the bag of donuts on the counter and walked away from the register without another word after ringing the donuts in. Should have just walked out with the bag full of broken donut bits! Shoutout to Doughboys Donuts for holding down Hanukkah traditions of sufganiyot, aka jelly donuts, year after year. We had an opportunity to host a Hanukkah party for my son's first grade class and that meant we HAD to bring sufganiyot to share with the kids! There was only one place to call, and on short notice Doughboys made a large custom order of 40 powdered sugar raspberry jelly donuts happen for us! The party was so special! We shared latkes, dreidels, the story of hanukkah, and sufganiyot, and everyone left smiling ear to ear, including us. This has been my go to local donut shop for years that they even were a part of our dessert wall for my wedding! It's great for early mornings like before or after the great reno balloon races or to bring to dinner parties. Their donuts have always been a favorite of mine. They have many different kinds, but mine is a raised maple bar. The dough is so light and airy. They also have pastries too! I love the jalapeno cheddar croissant warmed! I like this location as it has drive through which is convenient. Most of the time it is available but sometimes there is a cone blocking the way meaning that the drive through is closed, which I've only encounter that twice. I used the drive up because I was in a hurry this morning and I started to select certain donuts and then she asked me if she wanted me to pre-select or if she wanted her to select them so I got a few that I wanted and then she selected the rest. We were in the area today, and my daughter requested that we stop for doughnuts. I've been super disappointed with service at Maeanne and Sparks locations lately. I will walk in and see 3 or four kids playing in NW. No greeting or offer of service. The next patron will walk in, and they will be greeted and asked if they need help, but I waited at least 5 minutes. The last time I walked into the NW store, I walked right back out. One of the girls working was twirling her bangs with food gloves on. Seriously, so gross! I'm glad today that wasn't an issue, but talk to your employees. That's not okay. We love the array of fresh doughnuts and had to pick up a cup of coffee. They have more flavor options than our local Starbucks. Every store has the same look, but I just wish service was better in Sparks and NW Reno. Their shops are fairly clean and do expect it to be fairly busy on the weekends. I've been going to this Doughboys for a few years now but I don't go there very often. This place is hit and miss. Sometimes they have donuts, sometimes they don't. A few times they have closed really early because they ran out of donuts. When they are open, they had a limited selection of donuts. My kid wanted donuts so we stopped at Doughboys a couple days ago and there was a sign on the door saying they were closed, they ran out of donuts. We ended up driving to Jelly Donuts and getting some there. We've been to the Doughboys in Sparks and I don't remember having an issue of a donut shortage with that store. Walked right in, there was no line and few people in the bakery in the afternoon. They ran out of the croissants that we came for so we ordered a half dozen donuts plus an extra pineapple strudel bc it's not included in the half dozen price. Came home and we only had 5 donuts...we were missing a maple bar although we were charged extra for the pineapple strudel. On top of that the service was a bit eeeehhh. I was staying the night very close to this place and stumbled across it during my walk. One of the best stumbles ever! I am a huge fan of chocolate-covered Old-Fashioned donuts, so I ordered one. I can state, without any hesitation, that this was the best Old-Fashioned I have had in my 63 years on earth. I wish I lived in the area so I could try more of their products. Simply, fantastic. I wrote this review about 2 weeks after my visit, that's how good it was. When doing so, I read some of the other reviews. I cannot believe what people complain about in their 1-star reviews. One person was upset because they were closed well before he arrived, which was after their posted hours of operation. Isn't that your responsibility to see a business's hours of operation? Then another gave a 1-star review because their drive-thru speaker sucked. Really? Did you consider taking the actual donut into account too? I stopped by here to get some donuts for work, got a dozen and a cup of cappuccino. At the parking lot, accidentally dropped my cup of cappuccino. Ahhhh! What did I just do!!!- That's what was going in my head! In the middle of my shocked-sad-reaction, the wonderful lady behind the counter at Doughboys yelled from the door asking if I wanted a new cup!!! YES! Thank you! I'd like to provide feedback about my most recent visit to your location this morning around 9am drive thru. The man you have working drive thru gave one of the worst experiences I've had at your location in the 5+ years I've been going here. First he was very short when asking for orders over the intercom, I understand if you're busy but at minimum, please be kind. When I got to the window the girl repeated back my order, which was correct. I waited for my order and the man with the drive thru headset returned to the window pretty much tossed a white bag at me then quickly closed the window and walked away. I look inside and only one of my items was in the bag. I figured they were simply heating the other item but after waiting over 7 minutes more and waiving at the employees thru the window- no one came back to the window to check. They all just stared at me. I then had to come into the building to get my ham and cheese croissant, napkins and creamer. The location wasn't busy. The drive thru man (hat, dark hair, looked wavy, glasses) just avoided eye contact. I also requested no seasonings on the sandwich which was not honored (this is due to someone's dr ordered diet restrictions). I feel as though I can not trust this establishment to do what's right. To pay almost $20 for two items and coffee and to be treated this way is not okay. Please coach your employee or take him off drive thru in order to avoid customers having poor experiences in the future. I encourage you to do a mystery shop of your establishment because this isn't the first time items have been forgotten, but normally, employees check back to see if there's anything else needed. McDonald's should not be providing better service than doughboys but that was definitely the case today. read more

I get doughnuts for my coworkers all the time here. They love the blueberry cake and old fashions. I like their croissants. You can order ahead via call or take the drive-through. Most people seem to walk in and order to see what doughnuts they have. They are always busy, yet are always so sweet. The parking lot is large and easy to find spots. I went at 630, and most of their cake doughnuts were out. They do bake throughout the day, but I was surprised it was out. Probably all the preorders and such. We almost alway get a dozen donuts. With 5 kids, they don't last lol. We went with a chocolate bar, maple bar, for assorted jelly donuts. Two glazed raised donuts, orange glaze, coconut and two cake donuts with sprinkles and chocolate. If all kids are not present to pick a donut, one thing I do is cut all the donuts in half and let the kids take turns picking their favorites 1/2 at a time. After Rock Paper Scissors to see who is first. This way everyone get to try a couple of flavors and no one feels left out.
