I needed something for a vegan and was surprised at the amount of choices I had. The service was outstanding. The mother of one of the owners helped us. She was a joy. Mix has to be the hands-down best pie shop in Reno. On my first visit, I tried their caramel apple cutie pie, and it was a show stopper, from the flaky crust, to the tangy apples, to the perfection that is their caramel sauce (rich, thick, but creamy). A delicious blend that's well balanced, and not overly sweet or buttery. Oh, what's a "cutie pie"? It's a miniature pie, perfect for 1-2 servings, and a great way to say yes to some pie without committing to it for a week. They have other fun ones like Hoosier (brown sugar custard w/ oatmeal crust), chess (lemon custard), and Jumbleberry (mixed berries), along with the usual classic flavors. I've also tried the pecan cutie pie, and a seasonal (should be year-round!) cherry almond cupcake, which was the perfect blend of almond flavor and tart cherry. I had new neighbors move in next door. So I wanted to give them a welcome gift. What's better than food? Cookies!! I decided to go to Mix as I have had one of their pies before. When I got there a lady at the counter said hello a gave me a few minutes to look around. Small but cute place. I got some cookies and I also got my husband a single serve apple crumble pie because that is his favorite. I myself don't like apple pie so I will always buy one before I make him one. My husband told me that was the best apple pie he has eaten. I had to have a bite and it is the best apple pie I have had! Went here about a week ago with a larger part of my family, kids & adults, to treat then to cupcakes. They were SO GOOD! I would go back time & time again for the banana bread one. The eggnog one was a bit of a miss, but I've also tasted a few of their pies over the years and always solid. They got dinged in my book because none of the workers seemed happy that we walked in, with the woman helping us being very standoffish & clearly annoyed. I guess if I want tasty cupcakes, I'll need to go solo.. which is entirely possible. read more

We were having lunch next door and I couldn't help but pop into Mix Bakeshop after we were done to have a look. I was not disappointed! They have a ton of pie flavors to choose from, both mini pies and full pies. They also have fun and unique flavors, you can try something new every time! In addition to pies they also have a variety of cupcakes and also cake bites, which I cannot stop eating. The red velvet cake bite is my favorite! The staff said they can do vegan cupcakes for custom orders so it's nice they can accommodate that! They also have some cute retail items you can buy that are baking/food themed. I really wanted to like this place, but they flat out failed. I was going to friends for a large holiday gathering. I ordered several pies and cupcakes. NOTHING was up to standards. The place is clean and the counter staff were very nice and helpful. I was going off my experience a long time ago when they were 6 or 8 doors down in the same center. The cupcakes were very dense and more like a muffin. Not " cakey" At all. None of the pies were good either. They all had issues. One that was consistent with all four pie was they were not fully mixed. Salt pockets in the crust. Apples were not cooked and overly crunchy, Jerry's overcooked and leathery skins, pecan pie was like molasses with nuts. The pumpkin was good other than the salt bombs. Really a bad experience. The mission was to find an apple pie to bring into my workplace for a birthday celebration. I really didn't want to fumble and have to get a store bought pie, so I gave Mix Bakeshop a ring first thing when they opened. I was in luck--they had all varieties of pie for the day! The employee took my order and payment over the phone, so that I could pickup the pie later in the day. Very prompt and very friendly! I even got a receipt emailed immediately. When I stopped in to pickup, the whole process was as easy as pie (hehe)! The Dutch Apple was a hit with my coworkers! I am not even a pie fan, but I was so impressed with how delicious the pie was! The crust was heaven! It was crumbly but not dry, buttery but not greasy. I was able to cut perfectly intact slices to each person! I can't wait until the next time pie calls, because Mix will be my top choice! But I may even stop in sooner to try some of the other wares that Mix offers in their cute 1950's bakery. read more

Our favorite bake shop to buy cupcakes. There are a lot of places to get sweets in California but Mix Bakeshop has to be one our favorite places. Whenever we travel to Reno to visit we always bring back a dozen cupcakes home. The sizing is generous, flavors are great, and pricing is even better. To only thing I wished wash that is was a little closer to home. If you're ever in the area I suggest you try them. Our favorite flavors are, Monkey Business, The Espresso one, and Salted Caramel. The treats here are delicious. I like checking in and getting a free cupcake..lol. We tried the peach pie. And I picked out one of their cupcakes. I chose the s'more cupcake. It was a chocolate cup cake with marshmallow frosting and a piece of chocolate candy on top with Graham cracker crumbs. The peach pie crust is flaky, but it's a little salty. The cupcake was good,but the cake part was kind of dry. I'm not sure if it wasn't fresh or maybe not enough eggs or oil in the mix. I like to bake, and the cakes I make are never dry. I found the decor of this Bakeshop charming and inviting. I had only a few minutes to spare but was interested to see what they offered. A large front section with seating, a small gift section as well. I chose a small lemon based tart, was surprised that the charge was $6. It was very very small but the major disappointment was the filling was very minimal. Crust nice and short but not a $6 wow. I looked at the showcase again and saw that their larger pies sell for $25, once again, not a very large pie and all looked to have minimal filling. We stopped in one Friday, right before they closed. Very unique cupcake flavors, and we couldn't get out without trying a couple. I was too ready for something sweet after a long day of training, so unfortunately took a bite before we could catch a picture. Whoops! Haha! Cupcakes are chilled, which I wasn't expecting. Not a bad thing, but I'll probably wait 5 minutes next time. The service was quick and kind. :-) I loved the lemon, strawberry, and funfetti. OK, I was in the mood for pie, and my wife wanted cherry. I was driving by here and I decided to stop and see what they had. Sure enough they had one cherry pie left. Super secret! First a reminder, if you check in on Yelp, you get a free cupcake. No, they will not change it for anything else, but with so many choices of amazing cupcakes, I'm OK with that lol. I went with the raspberry beret which was a dark chocolate topped chocolate cupcake with raspberry filling. It was actually pretty damn good. I saw a bunch of cookies and they have an amazing selection if you don't mind spending $2- $3.00 per cookie. If they are as good as the cupcakes and pies are, probably worth it. What I ordered: Cherry pie Raspberry beret cupcake When I got the pie home I immediately cut into it and Yep... Best cherry pie I've ever had. It is true. And you know what, I'm a large guy, I've had plenty of cherry pies lol. I also ate half of the chocolate raspberry beret cupcake... Gave the other half to my wife. It was really really nice. I ordered some cupcakes for birthday celebrations. I placed the order on Tuesday for pickup on Saturday. (Mix is closed on Sundays, the day we were celebrating). Ordering over the phone was a breeze. Once I had asked the 3 birthday 'kids' what they wanted, ordering a dozen was no issue. My phone order was quick and I appreciated that the guy on the phone did not repeat my card number as I was saying it. Saturday came for pickup and I walked in. Another person was ahead of me but I was helped quickly. I was a little surprised the gal did not open the box to confirm in front of me but I just checked for accuracy in the car. Sunday came and so did cupcake time! We had ordered Monkey Business, Red Velvet, Lemon, and the Salted Caramel. Monkey Business is sort of like a banana bread (less dense) and did not taste like fake banana. It was raved over! The red velvet and lemon are staples and are always perfection. I had the Salted Caramel. I don't usually like this flavor but I didn't want to be selfish with my choice #notmybirthday. That being said, I felt it tasted too caramely and was too sweet. Again, I'm not the target person for this. But if that's your jam, you'll love this cupcake. Overall, great experience. I will definitely continue coming back. 10/10 recommend read more

Mix Bakeshop made 40 mini pies for my wedding in multiple flavors and it didn't break the bank. The staff was so accommodating, the pies were ready on-time, they went above and beyond and even opened the shop a little early for me for pick-up. There were zero hiccups on my big day and the guests raved about the pies. The Jumbleberry was my personal favorite but they were all delicious and my Maid of Honor said she was considering putting a lock on the fridge because her and her family couldn't stop eating the leftover pies. Thank you so much for making my day special and putting up with my family stopping by to do pie recon. I sorta try to pretend Mix Bakeshop doesn't exist so I don't eat the sweet treats every dang day...a dangerous place to have 5 minutes away! So good. The cupcakes are moist and super flavorful- and a great ratio of cupcake to icing (mostly- the salted caramel cupcake icing kinda took over). Don't want a whole pie? They don't sell pie by the slice but even better, they sell 'cutie pies' for $5. A perfect amount of pie and this way you get alllll of the delicious crust! There are a few little tables to eat there, in an adorable and super clean area. They also have some cute baking-related gift items, like kitchen towels. And ice cream! Tahoe Creamery fun flavors. So if you want to make your pie a la mode- it's incredibly easy! I had never tried Mix before and got to have it twice within one week! The first time was at a recent graduation party where the graduate's family ordered custom Notre Dame themed cookies for their party. They were huge cookies that were so good! The royal icing was sweet enough and paired nicely with the sugar cookie. They made about 4 different themed options to choose from, each one individually bagged. The second time I had Mix this week was when I did a custom order of cupcakes! The birthday boy is a big fan of vanilla/coconut flavors, so I wanted to make sure there was a mix of those plus a variety of other flavors. I called to ask if that was possible and they encouraged me to place an online order at least 1 day in advance with a note about what specific flavors I wanted. They only do a small number of the coconut cupcakes per day, so this way they could be sure to save enough for me. Their online platform is easy to navigate for placing orders. I ordered a dozen cupcakes--6 of the vanilla/coconut ones, 6 of any other flavors. The total was $40 which seemed a little pricey but it was worth it for the size and quality of these cupcakes. Everyone loved them! The cake was soft and flavorful. The icing was definitely the best part! So creamy and delicious. I absolutely love this place! I've gone here for a sugar cookie decorating class, and that was seriously the best! So much fun and you get a copy of the recipe of the cookies and the icing after class. They also have delicious pies! I'm not normally a big fan of pecan pie, but omg it's so good here!
