I have to give them 5 stars because the guests at our post-wedding reception are still raving about how delicious our cake was! A friend who was helping me look for a custom cake baker that wasn't over-the-top cost wise located them in their NW Reno location. I ordered a two-tier cake: white with lemon filling and chocolate with chocolate; vanilla frosting. I added a fresh flower topper. Jess is delightful and very helpful with decor ideas - we ended up with off-white frosting with a gold leaf ring around each layer. We did have to pick up the cake at the Sparks location because it was Sunday, and our messages weren't always answered as timely as we would have preferred, but it all worked out and the cake was AMAZING! read more

I hope I'm the outlier, but not a great experience. My overall recommendation, cautiously use them in a pinch, but don't have high expectations. Staff are friendly, and the cake tasted fine - not overly sweet. However, they use TONS of frosting and barley noticeably layers of filling. The icing is not soft and chunks off in pieces as you slice it. Good luck getting a picturesque piece, especially with the rough icing surface. They attempted to hide their mistake of white frosting by covering it with a layer of black. We just wanted all black. Probably smart to wait on giving a tip until pickup, rather than when you pay. If you want the details, look at the pictures and read below. Red Flag 1 - Custom 6" heart cake was quoted at $55 but when it came to paying, they charged for an 8" cake for $69. Red Flag 2 - My first attempt at picking it up, the color of the writing was incorrect. I showed them on the original order and they said they can fix it and it would only be a few minutes. It took them 40 minutes with little communication to present a hack job attempt of laying gold leave over the piped lettering. It looked horrible, so I left and came back for the 2nd time to pickup. Red Flag 3 - You can see where they scraped the frosting on top, making it look like a dirty eraser mark on your 5th grade spelling test. No attempt to blend it. The frosting was not smooth on the sides. There were ridges and craters all over. And they didn't have a box to fit it so the lid needed to be propped open. Overall presentation was poor. Other Red Flags - If you look at the interior, the ratio is about half frosting and half cake. They use a ton of frosting. We asked for black frosting with lemon curd. That's it. They put a thick white frosting on the inside and BARLEY any lemon curd. There wasn't supposed to be frosting in between the layers, just filling. It's almost like they messed up the order and attempt to fix it adding another layer of frosting because who would know what's on the inside without opening it? read more

Nothing changed about this place except it's way more expensive. On two occasions I went there to order some cake. Cookie, and the cheesecake. The cake was old and stale, the cookie was small and expensive, but OK, but the worst was the price of a small hockey puck sized cheesecake for $15.00. I walked out with a cheesecake, an additional half cheesecake which was $12.00. and finally a piece of confetti cake, and it was l$48 roughly, and it was terrible. So I gave them another chance a a few weeks when they changed the ownership to Flour Bakery, I went in and ordered a whole confetti cake. The cake again was old crumbly stale. It was terrible. It was a fortune. This was for a birthday for my 7 year old granddaughter. So in retrospect, I probably should have never stopped because the first time a couple of years ago, I tried them and it was the same situation. Things never change. Don't waste your money. You get a better Cake at Safeway for much less money. read more

With 15 minutes to spare and having enjoyed a nearby late lunch, it was a group of four of us so eager to go and try some treats. Having talked about passing by the Sparks location on my way home and continuing to say "I'll stop here soon," and all of us looking at the photos and menu online we were ready to sample. It was 4:45 p.m. on a Saturday and the closed sign was up. In the dessert shelf was a bunch of cheesecakes lined up. We all left in disappointment. The kicker was I went out and when I drove by I saw a young girl looking out. Still want to be able to give it a fair shot, but I think I'll take my business to my neighborhood location in Sparks, this one left a bad taste in my mouth. read more

I ordered a custom cake from Flour Bakery for a baptism and had such a great experience from start to finish. I placed the order just a week in advance, and it was no problem at all--they were super accommodating. When I walked in, I was immediately greeted (always a good sign!) and helped right away. A friendly staff member handed me a form to fill out with all my custom cake preferences, which made the process quick and easy. Cake flavor options included chocolate, vanilla, strawberry, lemon, and possibly one more I'm forgetting. They had a ton of options for icing, fillings, cake sizes, and overall design. I ended up going with an 8-inch vanilla cake with fruit preserve filling and buttercream frosting, topped with fresh fruit (a small extra charge, but totally worth it). The cake was meant for 10-12 people, and we definitely had leftovers--very generous sizing! Pickup was also super convenient--I could come by anytime on the agreed-upon day. I can't remember the exact base price of the cake, but with a 20% tip, the total came to $99.60. Everyone raved about it--moist, flavorful, and just the right level of sweetness. Stopped in just before closing and was curious to see what they might have. But the only thing left was a small carrot cake. Everything else I had been sold out, which I guess is a good thing for the business owner, but not such a good thing for a customer. The carrot cake was tasty, not overly spiced, not overly dense, and the frosting with walnuts on top was quite good. I tried to give them another chance by coming earlier in the day, but they weren't open. And checking their website I see they're only open from noon to five and closed on Sundays. I will plan my next adventure when they are open. read more

Delicious, original and satisfying flavors from Flour Reno. I cannot recommend it enough. The Matcha and Black Sesame cheesecakes are my favorite but the OG one is still delicious. The ordering process was fine. The staff was friendly and accommodating. The cake order was for my one year-old grandson's birthday party. I ordered a 6 inch three layer of vanilla cake with raspberry filling. It barely had any filling. The frosting on the cake was very hard. It looked cool. The theme was outer space. Very cute. At first glance, the cake looked amazing. That's about it. The cupcakes were very expensive and if you got two bites out of them that was a lot. Like I said it was for a one-year-old's birthday party and the chocolate cupcakes were dark chocolate and very acceptable for children. The small cake for the baby to have for himself was pretty dry. The die on the cake didn't come off of his face for quite a while. I would not recommend this bakery. Almost $200 spent. Not worth it. read more

I bought 3 different flavors of cake slices last week. I was really disappointed with the chocolate. It was possibly the worst chocolate cake I have ever tasted. It was dense, heavy, and gluey in texture with no chocolate flavor whatsoever. The frosting was akin to what I imagine spackling would taste like. Just awful. The carrot cake was good, but the frosting was way too sweet with a gluey consistency. It ruined the goodness of the cake. The lemon cake was good but again the frosting ruined the experience because it too was way too sweet and gluey in consistency. I would like to see this business succeed but without improving some things it might not. However, the Ube concoction, according to my daughter was excellent. read more
