I met up with a friend who lives in the area who recommended that we meet at Mobar for coffee. I had a good experience, though it took me some time to find the cafe. It is located in a mall that is open to pedestrian traffic but whose stores are closed during the early morning hours. They offer a standard cafe menu though they only carry oat, almond, and 2% milk. I tried their Cafe de Olla latte and thought it was not overly spiced or sweetened. The service was friendly, and it was easy to find some seats nearby on the mall floor. read more

I've been wanting to try this spot for a while. I'm a huge coffee lover and have visited coffee shops all over Southern California, so any place I haven't tried yet automatically catches my attention. Since this one is located inside my local mall, I figured it was finally time. I arrived at the mall about an hour before closing, placed a quick food from the food court first, then headed over to the coffee shop about 50- 45 minutes before they were closing. When I walked up, I didn't see anyone at the counter. I could hear someone sweeping in the back and said "hello" a few times, but I don't think he heard me. Since there was a self-service kiosk, I went ahead and placed my order there. Eventually, he came out, and I asked whether the horchata latte came with a cream top. He answered my question, but then immediately went back to sweeping. As a customer still standing there, I did feel a little overlooked. First impressions matter, especially when someone walks into your business. After placing my order, I realized I'd accidentally selected decaf on the kiosk, which is exactly why I originally wanted to order with a person. Sometimes those kiosks aren't the most user-friendly. I had also selected whole milk, but I noticed oat milk being used both times my drink was made. I decided not to say anything since it still tasted good. The first drink had to be remade because of the decaf selection, and let's be honest...the whole reason I came was for the caffeine! Thankfully, once we started talking while he was making the second drink, he opened up quite a bit. We ended up chatting about the World Cup and other random topics, and he turned out to be a genuinely nice guy. It looked like he was the evening manager working by himself, so I can understand trying to get closing duties done. I ordered the small horchata latte and added the cream top. After the add-on and tip, it came out to about $8.75... That's a little pricey for a small drink, but being inside a mall, it's about what I'd expect. The shop itself was very clean, and the horchata latte was flavorful and enjoyable. While it isn't one of my absolute favorite coffee spots, it's definitely a solid option if I'm already at the mall and craving a flavored latte. I'd happily stop by again. One small suggestion: if a customer walks in before closing, take a moment to acknowledge them before jumping back into closing tasks. That little bit of attentiveness can make all the difference. I had just finished my eye exam across the street and was in desperate need for caffeine, so I used my handy dandy Yelp account to search for clues, which led me here. (If you didn't recognize the Blues Clues reference, it was before your time). Located inside the mall, I took the stairs to the second floor and there it was. I spied with my little eye a corner stall with baristas brewing coffee and other craft drinks. (Another childhood reference). After checking out the menu, I ordered their Horchata latte and added horchata cold foam. I've been in the area often the past year but most notably in the Montebello Town Center to play Pokémon Go especially during the rainy or extremely hot days. I've seen Mobar Coffee every single time but just thought nothing of it while assuming it was one of those typical boring mall-esque spots. However, after a more thorough search, I saw some good reviews and great tasting items so we decided to try it out the next time we were in the area! We ordered their Cafe de Olla Cold Brew and Strawberry Horchata Cold Brew. The CBs itself were a-okay, nothing special but the cold foams were delicious! I was out Mother's Day shopping and was craving a good coffee, so I decided to try a new spot. I'm very picky when it comes to coffee because some drinks can trigger my anxiety if they're too strong or bitter. The Yelp reviews were really high, so I figured I'd give it a shot and let me tell you, it did NOT disappoint!The coffee was perfect: sweet, smooth, and not overpowering at all. It had just the right balance of flavor without being too heavy. The service was quick, and the staff was very friendly and welcoming.The ambiance was chill and relaxed, especially considering it's located near a play area. It made for a pleasant experience overall. My only downside is that there really isn't a sitting area to enjoy your drink and hang out for a while, which would have made the experience even better.Overall, I was very happy with my visit and will definitely be back for another coffee! read more

I ordered the Cafe de Olla ($6.75 - medium - iced - regular milk). This is weak coffee. I continued to feel sleepy after its consumption. It's a harmless, boring drink. It tastes like powdery milk tea. I arrived at Mobar Coffee (Montebello) on Thursday (around 12:33PM). It's located inside the Montebello Mall (aka: "The Shops at Montebello"). This small business is on the 2nd floor. It's across Macy's, and it sits besides Kay Jewelers. Nearby parking is plentiful and simple. Staff is friendly, welcoming, and helpful. Staff greeted me with a smile, and staff eagerly explained their menu's options. Staff appeared well-informed and diligent. I ordered the Cafe de Olla ($6.75). The drink was ready in three minutes. Fairly quick. As mentioned, the Cafe de Olla ($6.75 - medium - iced - regular milk) did not taste bad. It's just unmemorable. I'd compare its flavor to milk tea. It had a chill milk & powder taste with a weak caffeine kick. Unfortunately, this Cafe de Olla borders on the edge of bland. On ambiance, I appreciate the attempt by Mobar Coffee (Montebello). The location has six round tables labelled "Mobar." Surprisingly, these tables are near electrical outlets. There's about three electrical outlets for electronic devices by these tables which is a monumental achievement for a generic mall vendor. Mobar Coffee (Montebello) is also conveniently located beside the Kids Play Area which allows families to take a breather from their busy kiddos if searching for a light rest. The location is also relatively clean and well-ventilated since it's in a well-maintained mall. Overall, Mobar Coffee (Montebello) offers adequate drinks. Its drinks are fairly standard and affordable, but it's not remarkable. It's a possible option if meandering nearby. 4 out of 5 read more

Amazing coffee. I wasn't expecting it to be this good. We arrived early to the mall and decided to grab a coffee while I waited for the stores to open. This is a great alternative to get your coffee at the mall. Conviently located next to the child play place and shoe palace (formally Forever 21), my friend and I come to bring the kids to play and we always stop by getting a cup of coffee. They have their own menu but always bring out seasonal flavors. The only reason why I gave them a 4 instead of 5 is due to their changing rules that depends on the person. I used to be able to get a small iced seasonal drink but now they only sell it medium but the other day my friend was able to get a small. While I do like their coffee, sometimes a medium is too much. Also, depending on the day and time, the staff can be pleasant or stand offish. Other than two things, I would say this is a great place to come if you need a break from the chain coffee places. read more

I've passed this place multiple times and I finally decided to come and I got a strawberry matcha, it was very sweet, tasted like vanilla and can hardly taste the matcha. Hardly tasted strawberry, it only has a couple dried strawberries on it and vanilla cold foam. Nothing strawberry matcha about it lol. The staff are nice and friendly and they made a few recommendations for my first time. So there I was, just doing some innocent window shopping with my mom at the Montebello Town Center--minding my business, not looking for caffeine trouble--when BAM! I spotted a cute little coffee shop upstairs called Mobar. Naturally, I wandered in like a moth to a latte. I told the barista I wanted something that wouldn't send me into a sugar coma because, you know, I'm trying to make better life choices (or at least pretend to). She whipped up an iced vanilla latte with almond milk, two shots of espresso, and two pumps of sugar-free vanilla like she was reading my mind. (Sprinkle of cinnamon on top) It was smooth, not too sweet, and just the right amount of "I can handle my life now." Customer service? 10/10. I've been here a few times before when they were in El Sereno twice and once while in the montebello mall. Each time was cool, coffee is good. Today I decided to ask if they have any sugar free options, I've been trying to really limit my sugar intake and noticed my coffees usually contain a lot of sugar. A lot of coffee shops don't really have sugar free options or they only have sugar free caramel, which I'm not the biggest fan of. Today at Mobar coffee I was greeted by the nicest guy with a super cute baby, and he said they have 3 sugar free options. I decided to go with sugar free Hazelnut and added sugar free hazelnut cold foam !!! OMG 10/10 literally amazing coffee and I am very picky about my coffee. My boyfriend and I were visiting from San Diego last month, and I like to try Iced Mochas or signature espresso drinks from coffee places we don't have at home. The gentleman who helped us was truly friendly and nice to chat with. Their iced mochas are delicious, not overly sweet, and the perfect blend of chocolate and espresso flavor. We also got the pumpkin muffin and double chocolate chip muffin and shared half and half so we each could enjoy both. Great quality of pastries! We are not from this area so we had a bit of trouble finding it (top floor of the Montebello Town Center). The mall wasn't open yet so we took a roundabout way to find this place. Came to the mall to kill some time and me and my partner stopped to just get something to drink. We asked for a hot water to mostly heat up my baby's bottle because we forgot to bring some with us. The girl at the counter let us know that they only offered water bottles and didn't have a hot water dispenser. We said that it was okay and just ordered our drinks. Once we sat down to just rest a bit, the girl called us over and handed my bf hot water. I'm assuming she steamed the bottled water for us, so because she went above and beyond I just had to rate this place. This girl deserves recognition!! I found Mobar Coffee through a Yelp search and was nearby so I decided to stop by to try. And I'm so glad I did. Their honey lavender latte is so good! And I highly recommend! The flavors are so balanced, I could taste each of the ingredients. The honey brings out the lavender and works so well with the espresso. I also got to talk to the owners and they were so nice and friendly. Their service is great! I used to come to the Montebello mall often so I'm glad that there is a great coffee place to come to now. A coffee shop in the mall! Located in between Kay's and Forever21. Right in front of a playground, so you'll hear the children screaming while you wait. Ordered a white chocolate mocha with oat milk. Plus tip, it was a little over $7. The cashier was really upbeat and positive. While I waited, I noticed that you can see everything they are doing behind the bar, and how clean everything was. They took their time making each drink, and called them out at the pickup corner. I did wait for a little bit until I realized that my drink was probably out but because of the group hovering the pickup station and children screaming, I didn't hear my number get called. It would have been nice if the number was called more than once, especially with the noise levels. Drink wise, I did not really taste the coffee. It was pretty sweet because of the Ghirardelli white chocolate sauce they used. I wouldn't go out of my way to get coffee from here, but they definitely have a prime location where mall shoppers can conveniently stop by for coffee. read more
