Sushi
Ed W.

Incredible value of a variety of clean shrimp and red snapper fillets. Their sushi is outstanding considering it's a buffet because they actually know how to do the rice. Their sushi is actually quite good, I've had worse at actual sushi restaurants. At least with this place the dinner buffet is only $19.95 so you have very little investment and if you can't find something good to eat there, that is your own fault.

Uncovered this horsefly deep fried in tempura batter

The sushi was so good and you can get raw food and let them cook it for you. It was so darn good I would totally recommend it.

They need a sanitation inspection immediately!! Apparent the owner is extremely rude, and showed no respect to the customers.

Just meh. Not awful but sushi wasn't cold, peanut butter chicken had so many granules (of I assume sugar?) It was not edible.

BEWARE! Really like this place and will be back - but NOT ON WEEKENDS. Prices are jacked up sky high on weekends.

China Buffet 2407 Lancaster Dr NE, Salem, OR 97317…read moreC+ to B- rating It has been a year since we last visited China Buffet and I've done many more reviews on google maps highlighting other Chinese buffets and other restaurants. The restaurant at 3:30pm on a Friday was sparsely populated but extremely clean. Background music was lightly playing, just enough of a buffer to distract other people talking. The serving options (see photos) were fresh and abundant awaiting the dinner hour rush, with the serving area well maintained. The staff quickly removes used plates and refills your drinks. They offered a few fish items (see photos) calamari, oysters, whole shrimp, breaded fried fish, sea bass /bone in, and breaded fried shrimp. As you see the photos, they offer a variety of dishes. From my plate piled high, the fried food tasted better dunked in the sweet/sour sauce. The skewered chicken was thick and meaty with a nice flame cook flavor. The fried chicken pieces had their own seasoning flavor that was hard to identify but acceptable. No old oil aftertaste with the fried food. Some Chinese buffets offer the spring roll or wanton wrapper crab Rangoon the thinner ones.( my favorite) while this establishment offers the egg roll thicker version. They are filled nicely with a slight crab taste. The fried rice, and lo main noodles are an acceptable expectation. The Chinese green bean can range from decent to slightly burnt. For some reason, the seafood salad was drenched in mayonnaise. The ice cream is a disappointment, made with ice milk which lacks the creamy flavor and texture. Pepsi products are offered along with tea and coffee. While we were there, a little girl was sang happy birthday by the staff, the first time I had seen this take place outside of popular chain restaurants. A nice perk for an average Chinese buffet restaurant. If we are in the area, this is a "ok" buffet to dine at. If you are willing to drive farther, others out there are much better.

Plenty of street parking available and the storefront had lovely plants at the entrance. Walking in felt a little crowded and awkward because of the small entryway. But it did look like they have a few booths, tables, window seating, and even a bigger private room in the back. The lunch specials were $9.99 which was an amazing value for sure! I got the Happy Bimbim Bap with chicken and my hubby got the Spicy Pork Bento Box (the bigger one for $15) The friendly staff set up our table and gave us all hot and freshly made green onion pancakes which was a nice touch! (Although it was a little too oily) Our food came out super fast - within 10 minutes of ordering?! The kids and I enjoyed all the veggies and egg for my bimbim bap but the chicken were cut until small pieces were just ok. My husband did enjoy his Spicy Pork with a good amount of spice (they asked him if he wanted spicy) and came with potstickers, California rolls, rice, and a side salad. My daughter actually really loved the green bean banchan and the daikon and kimchi were super delicious too! The owner came to our table to say hi to the kids and each table got watermelon as dessert (the Asian way!) She was so nice and offered extra watermelon for the kids if they wanted it. It also looked like they do a lot of local community work with the homeless and were super involved in providing food to those that need it. Such a lovely local restaurant. If you're in the area definitely come give it a try!
