Oh, man! What a wonderful experience!! We came for Mothers Day, and there were 8 of us. We were waiting for a few of our party to arrive and looking over the menu. The manager came out from behind the counter to explain the menu and process to us. He seemed genuinely excited to tell sus about their food and that there are no freezers or microwaves there. Everything was made fresh. Everything was made quickly and it was delicious! There are multiple sauce options and all were tasty. We are from Texas, so we are a little judgey about BBQ... The atmosphere was laid back, and it was easy for us to have a conversation even with 8 of us at the table. There was plenty of room for us, too. Our server, Asia, came out to check on us regularly. She was attentive and friendly and clearly wanted to be sure everything was perfect for us! And before we left, they brought out two trays of brownies and several cards for a free sandwich! I stopped by one of my favorite barbecue spots to enjoy their black plate special and I was not disappointed. The potato was the size of a toddler football, and it was fully loaded with butter, cheese, sour cream, and pulled pork. It was very delicious and worth the $13. I topped it off with the Memphis barbecue sauce and I had their seasonal cobbler for dessert and it came with a piece of cornbread. First what was right. Friendly cashier, good food, clean restaurant and bathroom... so why the 1 star, because of customer service and telling me a lie... twice... to me. So this is fairly simple and could have been avoided if they simply did some very basic customer service.. You see I was given a piece of cornbread. I said, where is the butter, in the tool box they said. So, they leave their butter out all day, unrefrigerated. So I was a bit surprised. In many other mission BBQs I've been to, they are behind the counter, refrigerated. So I asked if they could get me some butter from in back, that was still refrigerated... no, we don't have any butter that is refrigerated. I said, okay, how about some of the butter you use to cook with, that's not refrigerated either, it's all unrefrigerated. So instead of continuing this conversation, I went back and ate my meal. I then went up to the nice guy who took my order, I said, hey, I know you have butter in the tool box, it I can't imagine it's been sitting out for days, oh no, we restock it daily he said, okay, well, can you get me a couple of butters from in back, I assume your butter is not shutting in back unrefrigerated in a store room, oh no, it's refrigerated. Okay, so he said, no problem, I'll go back there and ask. Well, I assume he asked the same customer unfriendly worker because he came out and said the same thing, we don't have any butter unrefrigerated... I looked at his face and knew he was not telling me the truth, so I looked at his eyes and said, they told you to tell me that, he looked down, embarrassed because he was basically told to lie to me and said, yes, I said okay, I appreciate you trying. He was the good guy, really nice... So, management of mission BBQ, something simple has now made it so I will now go out of my way to never go back to your location. You lost a customer and I will tell everyone I can, don't go to your location, because they lie to you and don't care. Another mission bbq location near by does the same stupid tool box butter crap, and I've asked many many times for butter, and they get it for me, fresh and refrigerated, not sitting out all day rotting. So don't tell me it's a corporate policy. Also, I've been to many locations in Florida, and they never leave their butter out all day to rot. Nothing is worse than refusing an extremely simple request of a customer, and then doubling down to lie, because you are lazy, hate customers, or don't want to be challenged because you are telling a lie. read more

Just for the service alone I received today, this place gets 10 STARS!!!!! I placed my order online and ventured over to pick up my lunch. I was introduced to Mission BBQ last weekend and have been craving some more ever since! :))))) Was greeted with a smile by the cashier and I'm assuming the chef who has just put my order together, heard me tell the cashier my name and said let him know my order was ready to be bagged. They allowed me to confirm my order and I asked to order an additional side of baked beans. For my last review, I gave two stars because when ordering to-go out platters were all a bit underwhelming & basic (meats were a bit dry, plating was a bit ugly, food needed seasoning) but my family loves Mission BBQ, so time for round 2-this visit, I am bumping my stars up to the max (with bonuses if I could) not just because the food was a lot yummier (which it was) but because my experience with the staff was super delightful. We ordered two meat platters, w.two sides & three pulled pork sandwiches to go- when I arrived, the super friendly staff offered me a drink cup to refresh myself while I waited- While waiting, I witnessed the most heartwarming interactions between staff & customers- one staff was delighted to discover people she knew in line coming to visit her, and took some time to socialize with them- when the line suddenly got long, she returned to work, apologized to her team but was told by her supervisor, no worries it was nice you took the time to give them a southern hospitality hello! He even started her helping box up foods so she didn't feel swamped- staff preparing and boxing food together had great demeanors joking about handling the heavy influx of online orders- thought it could have easily been chaotic they worked so well together with staff from other duties coming to help those backed up (ex the cashier asked someone in line if he could get their order in a moment so he could help the line box to-go orders ready) When it was finally my time to collect my order, they opened up all of our to-go boxes, showing me how our order was properly filled, ordered to package sauces to go, and made sure I was all set with silverware and napkins (though in re-packaging one box got put aside and forgotten)- we discovered this right when we left, and returned to pick it up- though unnecessary they insisted on making a fresh platter, giving a gift card for a future visit, and gave us a banana pudding for our toddler- we said it was ok, we didn't need all of that since our food was right there on the counter and we had only left for 5mins, but they insisted. The food was much better than our last visit, everything was moist, well-seasoned, hearty portions, fresh delicious tastes- The whole visit from the warm welcoming atmosphere inside to the delicious food was fantastic. Lunch was delicious as always! I had the lean brisket sandwich with fries and green beans. I always loved the seasoning on their fries and add the vinegar on top. The brisket is delicious along with my favorite sauce, Memphis Belle. Their desserts are always fresh and delicious. The current peach cobbler is good but my favorite is when they have their banana desserts. Their unsweetened iced tea is my favorite drink. There are very few places I really like the unsweet tea and this is one of them. The staff is super welcoming, attentive and cater to your every need while dining in. The orders are always accurate. MISSING BUNS AGAIN, INEDIBLE LIMP FRIES & OVERCOOKED CORN BREAD! We ordered pulled pork and moist braised beef sandwiches, fries, and beans. They forgot the buns again! This is the 3rd time in as many months despite specifically asking them to include the buns. So we had to make a sandwich with plain bread, not nearly as enjoyable. Annoying. The fries yesterday were barely warm and totally limp. These are the worst fries we've had from any fast food place in a long time! They were inedible. The meat was good as were the beans, but the rest of our meal was either missing or inedible. The Corn bread was burnt around the edges and very dry so either overcooked or stale. again, inedible. Will not be going back here again. 3 strikes and you're out. Sorry Mission BBQ we've been ordering since you opened this store but the quality and care has gone way down hill. I said yes he opens it up. I said is this too servings of brisket? He said yes I said for $22 moral of the story do not take the scraps that these people are feeding you make your own food. This is a nice family friendly / military service friendly location ! When we walked in, we were greeted with smiles and people attentive, ready to take our order. Not a lot of open tables, so it was good to find a place to sit and eat. I'm not a huge meat person but I got pulled chicken and turkey with a side of macaroni and it came with cornbread and I just got a soda with some lemonade. Babe, got the black plate special which I believe was Hawaiian ribeye. He also got fries and mac & cheese with that and cornbread and a soda and dad got a two meat platter. I'm not sure what the meats were but probably a sausage and he also got baked beans and coleslaw with cornbread and a soda. They had a good variety of drinks and each table with stocked with plenty of sauce. I haven't really been to Mission barbecue a lot before so I tried literally every single type of sauce and found that my favorite was a secret sauce... Secrets out the bag lol mixed with the original sauce. All right say it's a good place to eat if you really like some meat, dish and barbecue. They also saw that babe was trying to carry three trays and they immediately came out and helped him which was really nice. And they told us we could just leave our food on the table and they'll come clean it so overall I'd say the staff was very nice and I would definitely return, although I'm not a big meaty there because they had a great service! This was my first time going to an actual mission bbq location, my job has catered from them before years ago , I actually forgot about them and someone had mentioned it the other day & stated they had salmon so I decided to give it a try after dropping my son off to six flags America. Soon as I walked in I was greeted by staff which was very welcoming. Placed my order, got my food within seconds and had a seat. This lady who introduced herself as Wendy(I think) She seemed like she could have been the manager, asked have I tried the Alabama white sauce for the salmon its stored-in the back because it's served cold, I told her I have not, she went to get me one and told me let her know if I like it or not. It was really good! It definitely took the salmon taste to another level lol the beans were really good and tangy! The cornbread was not that warm however it was still good! I cleaned my tray within 10mins maybe less! I let her know I really liked the sauce and thanked her for introducing me to it. Two weeks later and I'm still thinking about the pulled pork! This place is delicious and fun. When you pull up you can't miss the Mission BBQ branded tanker. When you step inside, you'll hear country music playing and notice lots of military inspired decor and photos on the walls. The staff was helpful in helping me identify which foods were gluten free and I was happy to learn that the French fries are the only item that go in the fryer, meaning I could have them and be safe from any possible gluten cross contamination! They have plenty of seating inside, but we sat outside since it was a beautiful day, and the music even played outside! Each table is stocked with six of their signature sauces. I tried a few and the Smoky Mountain was by far my favorite. I can see this being a regular rotation on our dine-out or take-out list! read more

Seems that if as much attention to detail was put into the food as it is the locations they'd have something to work with. I equate eating at Mission BBQ to dipping dry meats into really good sauce. Or dry meat with sauce mixed into it. I'm not a big fan of this location. The staff is really friendly, and it's got a good vibe, but this BBQ has no soul. I also don't find it appetizing that there is a pet hospital on the backside of it... For obvious reasons, but i'm not going to insinuate anything. Mission BBQ is a wonderful restaurant with consistent food and service. The food is always hot, fresh and of good quality. Meats and sides are done with the same degree of attention and care, so once you have a favorite, you're almost guaranteed to get the same quality at any of their locations. My favorite is their meatloaf; half yardbird, ribeye and salmon. My family enjoy their pulled chicken, pulled pork and beef brisket. Okay, the beef brisket sandwich is pretty amazing. Note: meatloaf and ribeye are Black plate specials and they change each month so call ahead and see the feature of the month. Ribs are good quality but just okay to me...but I'm a rib snob. You've gotta try the sauces for yourself and they have something for everyone from sweet, spicy to Smokey or vinegar/tart. My favorite is the sweet heat! For sides their cheesy potatoes are awesome; green beans are as well but they pack a little heat/pepper; so if you don't like a bit of spice avoid them. The Mac and cheese is good; I not big on cole slaw but others have said it's okay, and the corn bread is okay; I prefer the buns. I don't drink soda but often purchase the Mission cups because a percentage of the proceeds go to support troops. When you return with your cup for future visits you get soda for a major discount. Either way, if you've avoided this place because you think it's just another so-so BBQ joint, give it a try. I think you'll be glad you did. read more

Came in on a Saturday at lunch time I was out in less than ten minutes and the place was full. I tried one rib and the NC pulled pork sandwich. The one rib was my test to avoid disappointment if I didn't like the taste. I wasn't disappointed it was perfection on a bone, juicy, tender, kissed by smoke it fell off the bone. I went to leave a review and saw I already had one LOL. Well, update! The team is friendly, fast, and efficient. I usually get pulled pork and it's soft and wonderful, very little fatty bits usually. If you've never been before, they can give you one of every sauce to try - and don't feel "bad" about it. It's totally normal for first timers. The sides are good, hot and fresh. Turkey sandwhich, and sausage is also good. Cornbread is just ok, that's an easy skip for me. But you rly can't go wrong here. It's a wonderful atmosphere and I love the neighborhood feel. I LOVE Mission BBQ and was beyond thrilled when this spot opened up. It's located within the ever growing Waugh Chapel Town Centre and there is plenty of parking around the building. The inside has a funky layout-- the Columbia location probably has the best layout. But, there is a nice outside patio for decent weather days! I honestly think Mission has some of the best meats and sides compared to other BBQ joints. My hubby and I usually split a 3 meat sampler and 3 sides-- great way to get a little bit of everything! The turkey is lean and juicy and the jalapeño cheese sausage is sweet and spicy. Honey Heat and Memphis Belle are my go-to sauces. I also love the mac n' cheese and cheesy potatoes. Tried the seasonal Nawlins Corn and wasn't really a fan... but this was the first time I had something I didn't like.
