I had a deal for Slim to try their food and went on Wednesday, March 12 with my girlfriend. We thought it was crazy Slim had just recently opened right across the street from Raising Cane's, which had opened 1.5 years earlier in September 2023, which I remember going on their 2nd day in Gambrills and was a madhouse. Business at Slim was light on this Wednesday early evening. While similar to Cane's, one key difference is Slim has more menu variety. At Cane's, it's simply the chicken tender baskets, and Slim has the same thing but also chicken sandwiches as well as more dessert options like chocolate Oreo in a mason jar and other mason jar dessert varieties. We had gotten a tender strip basket & chicken sandwich. I think the chicken sandwich was solid. The chicken tenders were pretty good, but inferior to Cane's across the street, but that would is very high bar to reach Cane's level. Fries & Texas toast was good here, but Cane's is a bit better too. I did like the varieties of dipping sauces here. At Cane's it's just the Caniac sauce. Here I got their Slim sauce & ranch. The tenders are also smaller than at Cane's. But the price for their basket is a fair amount cheaper than Cane's, so that is a plus. In addition to the food deal, I also had a free Mason jar dessert, which I got the Oreo one to split with my g/f. It was the highlight of the entire meal, which was delicious. Additionally, the cashier was very friendly answering all my questions. I will say the service was friendlier here at Cane's. Cane's they are just trying to get people through the line. Overall, I would consider Slim as an option for the chicken sandwich and/or if I have a deal. read more

Not gonna lie, I held out on coming here after I saw the lines around the block for Canes, but I never saw Slim Chickens receive the same kind of welcome. I had previously gotten caught up in the Canes hype myself, but quickly realized that the chicken was mid, and the sauce carries that whole franchise. I was also put off by how all of a sudden This area had quickly become the fried chicken capital of Maryland, with all these new chicken spots opening. Roaming Roosters, Canes, 2 Royal Farms, Wing Stop, Popeyes, Nandos, Miski (R.I.P.), Dat Jerk (McJamaican), Bon Chon, The Chicken Shack, and still to come Big Chicken which is owned by Shaq will be opening somewhere in the area. It just seems like a lot. To the point i heard someone refer to this area as "The Chicken strip" lol However, I was on Grubhub one night and decided to give it a try. I got a chicken sandwich with Korean BBQ sauce that I wasn't crazy about. The sandwich was just completely soaked with sauce and was sloppy, I wasn't feeling it. I also ordered the wings with cayenne ranch dry rub, and they were absolute fire. So then of course I had to follow up by trying the strips which I actually did today. We dined in (even though I ordered to go) and the staff was reallly nice, like Chickfila level nice, and the store was super clean. There was even a guy outside sweeping the parking lot, that to me looked spotless, but I guess he was sweeping away any possibility that a speck of dirt or debris may land, because I didn't see anything anywhere. When I got my food the first thing I thought was, these tenders look similar to Cane's. Like, almost identical, but as soon as I took a bite, there was no more comparison. The tenders were perfectly seasoned and the fries look the same way McDonald's fries look (in commercials), golden with a slight crunch, and not overly salty. (Review then sits in my draft for like 4 months at this point. I dont even know why) Picking up where I left off, I've since been here like 5 times. I still like it alot, the sandwiches are fire, the tenders are fire, and the wings (cayenne ranch) are fire. Though, I do wish incould get cayenne ranch tenders, but for a once every now and then option this spot is solid. read more

While visited this area with my sister and mother, we stopped into Slim Chickens to give them a try. I had never heard of the restaurant until my sister suggested it, but was happy I gave them a try. The are certainly giving Cane's a run for their money. The staff at this location was very friendly. They offered suggestions and explained items we were unsure of. The restaurant was spacious and clean and you have the option to order from a screen or with a cashier. I ordered the slims wrap meal and strawberry cheesecake in the jar. The wrap was very good, the fries were just ok, but the strawberry cheesecake in the jar AMAZING.....I really wish I had ordered two! I was spontaneously visiting a buddy who lives nearby, and we were all hungry. This spot was voted on, and I was definitely curious. There are a few locations throughout, including one that's much closer to my house. They have a drive-thru, but we decided to go inside. A good and bad idea for me I imagine... the chicken was exciting and all to try, but the first thing I saw was these dessert jars. There was a strawberry cheesecake (I thought it was shortcake, but I was corrected), and a chocolate brownie one. I couldn't resist the latter, just look at the pic! I then decided to get a chicken wrap with mango habanero sauce. I opted for that because I really am trying to eat less fried foods when I have the opportunity. There was a grilled chicken option. And you know what.... it was delicious! Especially with that sauce, though it was no way as spicy as I had hoped. And that dessert jar... sheesh. Easy to find, right off the main highway in Gambrills We ẁere in the mood for some great chicken. Step inside and sit anywhere you like then order at the register, I dunno, maybe I am slow on the uptake, I really would like a menu you can read off of in my hands,there were none.The menu was over the counter, not really eye level. I decided on the 6 piece wing combo with French fries, choice of 1 dipping sauce and a pop. For the sauce for the wings, you have choice of about 20! The sauce selection was stickers applied to the customer side if the cash register. I asked if they had Cheaspeake honey, tried again with hot honey, again. No. You have to choose from what is displayed, or no sauce. I ended up either Korean bbq, it was good. The side dipping sauce was ranch (my favorite, it complemented the bbq sauce). Over at the side they have 2 kiosks if you prefer that way of ordering. Sorry, I don't come into a store or restaurant where I have to work. I have to say the restaurant was very clean and the store runner was very efficient and helpful. We also encountered the manager and he was very interesting to talk to, he has the personality that is just right for this business. It came out in about 5 min. The fries were hot and a generous amount. The wings were good . They also included 2 pieces of buttered toast. Of the 6 wings, 3 came home, I had filled up on the fries. I was wondering if Crofton was going to have TOO MANY chicken places, with Roaming Rooster and Cane's opening within the last couple of years. Not to mention, we still have Popeyes and two Chick-Fil-A's and many other joints that carry chicken items. Boy howdy, were my fears misplaced. Look, I know some of you are huge Cane's fans, and that's fine. To each, their own. I'm not as big a fan, but Slim Chickens fixes all my problems with Cane's. First, they have more chicken items than just tenders. Second, they have a great variety of sides to go along with tenders, sandwiches, wraps, and even mac-n-chicken bowls. Third, their tenders are MUCH better tasting, and their breading stays on solidly! Fourth, they have a BUNCH of sauces to choose from! Fifth, their toast is better. Sixth, amazing desserts! The prices are comparable, so I'd happily take variety and quality over the alternative any day! They also have a drive-thru, which unfortunately Roaming Rooster does not have (which makes sense, given their location). I have to also comment on the service. They have two cashiers working up front, but also two self-service kiosks for anyone who a) doesn't prefer human interaction (introverts), and b) doesn't want to wait in line. They also come by and visit your table multiple times to clear items and see how everything is tasting. Nice touch! It's got a cool vibe inside, too, with some Blues music playing and a modern barn-like red and white décor going on. Homey, but not too rural, especially for our little suburb. Overall, definitely glad to have Slim Chickens in town, and I can't wait to try other offerings on their menu! After seeing the building of this restaurant, I was excited to give it a try. And since there are soo many chicken places in the area. I needed to understand what makes this place special. Overall, I would say this was a strong 3.5 but willing to tip it up to 4 stars. Here's why: Chicken tenders: They were decently seasoned compared to other chicken counterparts in the area , like Raising Canes and Chikfila. However, it wasn't as crispy as chicken tenders from like Popeyes, for example. French fries: Very basic and nothing memorable, unlike Chikfila that has great fries. Toast: It was basic white bread toast and nothing as big and fluff as Raising Canes. But still pretty standard and nothing super buttery. Tea: I would say that the Sweet Tea was better than all the other chicken options around. Andddd they had flavored options like Peach and Raspberry. MVP - Fried Pickles : The fried pickles with Cajun ranch is worth 5 stars by itself! They make their own batter for the fried pickles and they are cooked to order. It's truly better than some friend pickle appetizers I've had at restaurants. I should have swapped this out for the fries. Honorable Mention: They offer so many sauce options! I didn't try them all but will say the Slim sauce is worth a try but it does mean sweet. The garlic Parmesan was not my fave. I didn't see a sauce that rivaled Chikfila sauce or Raising Canes though. This is getting long so I will wrap it up! The service was really good and the staff was super kind. But we did notice our food was cold which sucked (everything but the pickles that was made fresh). It was our first time at Slim Chickens, and asked the person taking our drive through order to give us a second to assess the menu. We were literally looking over the menu about to place our order when the cashier called us again, beginning to rush us bc "there was a long line behind us". There were two cars behind us, and they also had a second drive through that was empty, and we hadn't even been given a solid a minute to make our decision. I placed a order through the app this is my 1st experience with slim chickens , when i arrived to pick up the order i pulled through the drive thur to pick up the order i placed but i was told i needed to go inside to pick up ( not very mom friendly ) so i went inside my order was ready the inside looked nice and wasnt to crowded for a Saturday. The potato salad was pretty good, the mac was creamy but bland, buffalo wings had very little sauce and weren't very crisp, and the tenders were average. And I really don't understand the toast. I don't get the point and I don't want it so it really shouldn't be included in the price. Personally, I prefer Canes tenders, but their menu is so limited, I'm not a fan of crinkle cut fries, and their service at the competing location is weirdly (sometimes glacially) slow for such a small menu. I greatly appreciate the wider variety the Slim menu offers, their variety of sauce options is great, I find their food solid to good overall, and the service generally excellent. We stopped in tonight to purchase food for dinner and nothing we purchased was eatable. The chicken wings were hard, dry, and didn't have any seasoning. The chicken tenders were overcooked and salty and the potato salad and Mac and cheese didn't have any seasonings. A total waste of money, we won't go back. My wife and I went to Slim Chickens on 10/12/24, Grambills location. Our 1st time there. We both ordered the simplest, chicken sandwich meal, and she got an order of fried pickles. The prices seemed reasonable. service was fast. Food delivered to table. You just had to get your own drink. The fries were SO hot-not a problem b/c that meant they were fresh. BUT after 2 bites, I knew we were in trouble. The fries, the sandwich and even the fried pickles were SATURATED with salt!! We looked at each other and knew...Both old school and refused to waste it. The line was too long to complain. Even on the way home my wife talked about getting home to brush her teeth. Sorry but this was our experience. Hope it's better for others. read more
