I'm giving them 3 stars based on sitting at the bar and cleanliness. We came about 7pm ish on a Friday night. We would of had to wait awhile but the bar was open. We attempted down the street first but they were very busy. We ordered 3 rolls the CIA, FBI, and the shrimp tempura roll. The CIA and FBI were pretty good with food presentation. the shrimp tempura is was a little disappointed. It was wrapped in seaweed which it didn't say was on the outside. The prices were almost twice the size as a regular roll and hard to eat. We also got the K-BBQ which was a plate of bulging I with a California roll on the side. We thought it was all one roll. They had plexi glass hanging from the ceiling in front of the people sitting at the bar but the sushi chefs were plating sushi on top of the fridge where they keep the fish but no plexiglass was blocking people's food from the people sitting directly in front of it at the bar. See second picture. It was very off putting to me. I wouldn't want a sushi roll that was sitting inches from someone's face the whole time. The servers kept reaching over me to get the rolls and one bumped me. They also kept scraping the top of the rolls on the plexiglass as they took them. Ew. Between seeing the state of the kitchen and how they operated things it was kinda gross. Overall the floor was dirty in the dining room and the kitchen was pretty messy too. Hey had EVERYTHING prepped like sticks of cream cheese cubes and set in the fridge, the tempura shrimp was just sitting on the counter, etc. the hot food came from another area of the kitchen but sat on the counter before we got it and the bulgogi was cold. The vegetable tempura was hot tho. They did not give us salad when we ordered, just the typical soup that every other restaurant does. We got 5 items for $62 not a bad deal. There are so many sushi places in anchorage I want to try others. read more

One of our visitors last summer works at a sushi restaurant in Lawrence, KS. So we asked him to suggest a sushi place here in Anchorage. He chose Miso Sushi, and we were not disappointed. We ordered "The Boat," and it was no only just crazy beautiful, every piece inside was delicious. I've been back, and everything I've tasted on the menu is excellent...the service is friendly, professional and observant...just right. Sushi here is not the best quality. Spicy tuna is way too spicy and covered with mayo and some sauce that it is hard to feel the taste of tuna. We rarely go to Anchorage, but when we do, we love to go to Miso Sushi. The service is excellent. We typically go in 'tween' hours-- after lunch but before dinner (which often gives us the best service); however, when we've gone during busy times, service has also been exceptional. We love the ambiance of the place as well. The wall art is nice to look at while dining. This time around, my wife's kiatsu chicken was a little dry (not moist), but for all our other visits, the food has been some of the best in Anchorage. My daughter is a self-proclaimed sushi connoisseur and she raved over the rainbow roll. Beef bulgogi is also an excellent, served on a sizzling iron plate. For appetizers, I had tako sushi (octopus is my particular favorite), and it was delicious. A must try is the tempura fried cheese cake. The smallest place with the BIGGEST flavor!! Most impressive were the starters actually! Rice noodle salad and Miso Soup-definitely lived up to their name! We had the most fresh and delicious nigiri (salmon and eel) as well as 2 specialty rolls! The 907 roll was my favorite and has the perfect amount of lemon to give it some extra zest. Haven't tried many sushi places in the Anchorage area because when I find a place I like l tend to stick with it. While I'm pretty adventurous in terms of trying different restaurants, and new cuisines when it comes to sushi I do not like being dissatisfied. Nasty raw fish does not sound like a fun time to me so I tend to stick with a favorite sushi place. That being said I am pleased to report that I was just as impressed with Miso Sushi, and happy that we gave it a try! The space was very clean, and well decorated with Japanese Sakura blossoms. When we dined it was fairly empty as it was early evening during a holiday weekend. The service was very attentive, and our food came out quickly after we ordered. The sushi was very good! The fish was fresh, everything was well prepared, and good portion sizes. The sashimi pieces were a good size for the price, and the maki had decent sized pieces of fish in them. All the rolls we tried were very tasty! My favorites were the fantastic roll and the spicy orange. Our meal also came with complementary miso soup, and a tasty cold noodle salad. The prices were fair for what we received. The menu has a wide selection of different Makis, and very good descriptions of what you are ordering. We definitely enjoyed our meal here, and have added it to our list of sushi joints in town. We shall see when I muster up the courage to add some more to that list! read more

GIANT sushi rolls! There were two of us, so we ordered three rolls, which is usually just the right amount. When the food was delivered, the rolls were huge! We managed to finish them all, but we were definitely stuffed! Sodas are charged by the can, so keep that in mind if you're really thirsty. The only negative I can say is that they didn't have any super white tuna (a.k.a. Escolar), which is my favorite. They got really great tempura shrimp! I've tasted many tempura places, some of them are in Japan. But the tempura here is certainly one of the best! They serve udon in a little iron pot so it will keep hot for quite a while, which is really nice. I've been here twice during my Alaska trip. Their bento has a very generous size! HAIR ON MY SUSHI!!!! I waited 47 minutes to get the food I ordered. In the meantime, no one came to check on me and let me know what is going on. If you are in the mood for an endless wait for some mediocre food with hair on it, do come to this place. The cleaning standards are questionable. The chefs do not wear hats so don't be surprised if you find human hair in your sushi roll or noodle soup. The chef was making my sushi boat on the counter so he talked with the guests sitting at the sushi bar over my sushi boat. 100% do NOT recommend this place. I had ordered Sake Don from here a few months ago and it was pretty good. The fish was super fresh and it came with a generous amount. They even included some salmon roe with the dish as well. This past week I ordered their tempura udon and crunch roll. The udon was good. Noodles were cooked perfectly and the broth was flavorful. Good large portion. The fish cake was the only thing that I thought was a bit weird. For some reason - the texture was super hard and not soft like most. It came with two shrimp tempuras and 2 potato tempuras on the side. The tempuras were crunchy and the dipping sauce was decent - it could have used a bit more flavor. The crunch roll was good. Miso sushi is THE only local small business in town that serves spicy tuna on crispy rice (some others have a variation like avocado on crispy rice(?)). I haven't had these since the last time I was in LA, granted it tastes different but it's the closest thing to what I've been missing. I think they also have it at Benihana too but I haven't tried because I'd rather support small business than a large chain. I think the rice they use in the lower 48 is more on the sticky side, almost tastes like rice cakes, very chewy. It's still really good with the bigger grain/soft rice they use at Miso, when I ordered it it was $10 but I think they may have increased the prices, I knew it was too good to be true! Lol. I haven't dined in at Miso but I'm sure the atmosphere is just as great as any sushi spot in town, I'll be sure to check it out soon. I also love their rolls, fried rice, and everything else they have. I think everything I've tried here has been of great quality, and nothing left me dissatisfied or made me think anything was overpriced. The spicy California roll was basically a California roll with a squirt of spicy Mayo and siracha sauce on each slice. Seemed lazy to me compared to other sushi spots that mix the spice with the crabmeat for a well blended flavor. The spicy tuna roll was very good with a nice level of heat and flavorful tuna. The shrimp tempura roll was good but needed a bit more rice to bind together. The slices wanted to disintegrate when you attempted to grab them with chopsticks. The sesame chicken entree was pretty good and the two gyozas in the box were a nice addition. The chicken was crispy and a tad sweeter than I like but good nonetheless. Friendly service. We've been here twice now and the food was great both times. Last time they were incredibly busy (always a good sign) and today we purposely went way ahead of dinner time so we wouldn't have to wait. We ordered a teriyaki chicken dinner and the veggies on the side were seasoned and tasty. We also shared a Mongolian beef/California roll and a Korean bbq California roll. Both meats were tender. Service was great, food was ready fast. Unfortunately I had to knock a star because there is no changing table for my baby. The whole meal I was stressed out about needing to change his diaper- I would've before I'd gotten there had I known. Sure enough he peed through his diaper and outfit... super lame. I ordered from here a few days ago and I was SO DISAPPOINTED! I got the Mongolian beef bento and the chicken fried rice, with a bowl of miso soup and seaweed salad. The Bento box was okay. The Mongolian beef was good, the tempura were cold and the sushi roll was warm.... The chicken fried rice was lacking. There were like 10 peas and 7 pieces of carrots. There wasn't much flavor for $13.00. The seaweed salad had turned. I've never tasted seaweed salad that was sour before. That can't be a good sign. This was our first time coming since Haru or whatever sushi place previously occupied this location. The decor was really thoughtful and nice. Service was friendly but a bit slow for how quiet it was when we arrived. Instead of miso and salad as a pre-sushi offering, it was only miso and it was kind of weak (maybe two or three tiny bits of tofu and no seaweed). They have some beers on tap which is nice, because I don't see many sushi restaurants that offer draught beer. My husband and I shared some tempura so I could have the veggies and he could have the shrimp. I wished it was fried just a tiny bit longer as the carrot was still kind of undercooked but the rest was really great. This place has one of the better vegetarian sushi roll offerings. My only suggestion for improvement is to add some more pickled veg in it for that extra crunch and flavor. But overall I was very happy with the Go Green roll. My husband had a sushi combination dinner that was quickly eaten. He commented how generous the cuts were and that the sushi were bigger than other places he's visited. Favorite sushi place by miles! Love coming here for lunch and dinner. Always great service and pleasant staff. The restaurant is small, but you never wait too long to sit. They do make everything with love, so you may wait a little on food to come, suck it up and drink some sake while you wait! My favorites are Mango Paradise & Sunset rolls.
