I had ramen from Miso Hungry twice during a weekend music festival at Waterfront Park in Burlington. The people working in the truck were friendly and seemed like they were having fun even in the sweltering heat boiling all those noodles! It's also a testament to how good their food is, because normally at 80+ degrees I wouldn't even think of eating hot ramen at an outdoor concert. And yet I did it - twice! I got the miso ramen (regular) and the miso ramen (spicy). The noodles were cooked perfectly and had a great texture. The broth was super flavorful and rich, exactly what I want for a ramen bowl. The spiralized carrot was a nice addition and the eggs were perfectly cooked with jammy yolks. The bowls also had spinach which I really loved since I usually add spinach to my miso soup when I make it at home. The pork belly was a little tough but definitely still edible. By far the best Ramen I've had in Vermont, or New England for that matter. Had a chance to check them out at the Burlington Air Show. Although I'm not usually a fan of a veggie basef broth, this one was very good. Ordered a spicy miso and was blown away by the layers of flavor, from nori, to the soft boiled egg, to the noodle and the chashu (they do a neat trick where they torch it before adding it to the soup). Most importantly the broth and noodles were on point. Perfect balance of saltiness from the miso and depth of flavor from the veggie broth. The noodles were cooked perfectly... probably in 90 seconds like they're supposed to be. Too bad they don't have a restaurant in Burlington. Or you can brave the cold and sit by the outdoor counter. We had the sesame ramen. Boy, was it yummy! Cooked very al dente, the noodles may be too firm for some. The egg was cooked to perfection as was the pork belly. Sprouts and greens along with a thin sheet of dried seaweed rounds out the bowl. I believe the broth is a combo of chicken and pork stock. One bowl was $11. If you choose to sit inside the homey eating area, you'll meet their Shiba inu dog Miso. Super cute, he decided that he wasn't so sure of us without his humans and howled and howled at us. He even showed off how tough he was by tearing the stuffing out of his toy. Miso Hungry's ramen is the beat ramen I've ever had. This ramen is the real deal, specialty noodles made from Momoko, the owners, family recipe. Braised pork, sprouts, carrot, and an egg (which I recommend getting an extra of) are textbook Japanese and prepared in the style you would expect from the best ramen shops of Asia. Taken at face value $12 a bowl is reasonable for lunch at a ski mountain. When you consider that it's world caliber Japanese specialty food in northern VT, it's an absolute must for lunch. read more
