One of the best meals in Stowe! We always make sure to come at least one night when we're in town. Amazing food and great service!

Immediately upon entering we were greeted by the hostess who took our names and said the wait was about 20 minutes. We ordered beers at the bar and were seated within 10 minutes. It was the busiest place in town for a Sunday night. The burger was cooked exactly as requested. It didn't come with fries so I ordered the barbecue chips and dip. Unexpectedly great food, but some of the rudest service I've experienced in a long time. I stopped in recently and the kitchen absolutely delivered: everything was hot, well-seasoned, and honestly far better than I expected for a casual spot. Unfortunately, that's where the positives end. From the moment we sat down, the attitude from behind the bar set the tone in the worst way. The older woman tending bar was openly dismissive, rolled her eyes at simple questions about the menu, and made us feel like we were inconveniencing her every time we ordered a drink or asked for something basic like water or silverware. No greeting, no smile, and zero effort to be even minimally polite. At one point she dropped drinks in front of us without a word and walked away before we could even ask for what was missing. It's a shame, because the kitchen clearly cares, but the experience at the bar completely overshadowed how good the food was. If ownership ever addresses the front-of-house attitude, this could be a fantastic place, but until then, be prepared for excellent plates paired with some truly miserable service. read more

Whenever we're in the Stowe area, we always find our way to Doc Ponds. The menu is simple, but the food is consistently delicious. A few weeks ago, we were in town and ended up visiting twice, both times for lunch. I ordered the smash burger on our first visit and the tostadas on the second, and both were great. The smash burger was delicious and exactly what I needed to satisfy my greasy cravings. We also ordered fries for the table, which were served with a delicious mayo-based sauce. The tostadas were on the lighter side but still packed with flavor! Although we were seated right away on both visits, our food took at least 30 minutes to arrive each time. To make matters worse, a family seated next to us - who arrived at least 10 minutes after we did - received their food before us, even though many of their meals were the same as ours. The service also wasn't the best - which seems to be typical. On both occasions, the servers didn't seem particularly happy to be working. That said, we still enjoyed our meals and the cozy atmosphere. The wood-burning fireplace really makes the space feel warm and homey. I'll definitely be back when I'm in the area and am hoping for a better experience next time. read more

Got the mac and cheese and beet salad to share for two as a light lunch. The beet salad had an unreal dressing on it that was light, and the beets were fresh and sooo tasty. Wouldve loved for the salad to be a bit bigger though. The mac and cheese was incredible, it had panko crumbs on top, adding a crunch. Although we did not try any beverages, they had plenty of beers on top in addition to alcohol free drinks, and milk milkshakes. Nice spot, easy parking in the lot, and great vibes. read more

Good spot. The weight took some time. I really liked chicken sandwich. A ton of chicken. I love the sliced pickles. I like a lot more than the burger. We got a double patty. Burger and the patties are way too thick. It was way too much meat and the balance was off. I will get a single patty. The fries are OK. A little soft. The maple pie was insane. A really solid place to visit. Really enjoyed our time here. Good food and good selection of beers. Kids menu was also available at a decent price. Would have loved to sit outside as it was such a nice day out however all the seats were already taken. The Caesar salad was nicely dressed and crisp. The breadcrumbs topping made it nice and crunchier. The wings were very good - fresh, with awesome smoky/sweet flavour. Highly recommend! a hipster bar spot with some yummy food options! We ordered the fried chicken sandwich - the fried chicken was perfectly cripsy and paired well with the maple mayo. I just wish it was bigger! We also ordered the baked VT cheddar mac and cheese - it was just okay. I liked the noodles but the dish overall was just bland. The Caesar salad was super crunchy and loved the sauce and cheese ratio. We had a slice of pie and the daily pick was the maple nut - YUM! Went on Wednesday night- was the most rushed meal I've ever had. The food was good, we paid $80 for two beers, tacos and sandwich- both were a la carte. We always make a stop into Doc Ponds when we're in Stowe! They don't take reservations so it can be a bit of a wait when it's busy, but you can join the waitlist on Yelp which is helpful. They have a great beer list with a lot of local options. Last time we were there, they had a special for Focal Banger draft for $5, what a deal! As for the food, the old school calamari is SO GOOD. It's not your typical fried calamari, it's sautéed. The squid is tender and very flavorful. I also love their crispy chicken sandwich, it's well seasoned and balanced out by the pickles and mayo. The food and booze are stellar, but we keep coming back for the casual atmosphere and the hospitality - the staff are always so nice and accommodating. They are family-friendly and we never have an issue getting a high chair. Definitely add Doc Ponds to your Stowe must-visit list! read more

This wonderful little roadside pub is located on Mountain Road, just outside of "downtown" Stowe, Vermont. I had lunch here with another couple. I had the Doc Double Smash Burger , which is beef sourced from Laplatte River Angus Farm in western Vermont, Doc's special sauce, Vermont cheddar cheese, lettuce and bacon ($19.). I also had Doc fries, which are done with a roasted garlic aioli ($9.), which I wouldn't recommend ordering if you don't want to have garlic breath. The hamburger was nicely cooked, with a soft bun. The french fries, as noted, were very garlic, but the flavoring was excellent. My wife had the Doc Caesar Salad, which was Gem lettuce, breadcrumbs, and Parmesan cheese ($14.). She added grilled chicken ($8.) and, while she said that the dressing had a very nice flavor, she thought the overall price of $22 was a bit much for what was just a good Caesar salad. Doc Ponds was our last meal during our trip in Stowe and we absolutely loved it! We started by ordering a couple beers and a couple of their "Snacks." We opted for the Marinated Olives and the Local Pickled Vegetables. I don't know about you, but I can stay AWHILE and have drinks while eating small plates like that. We then ordered the Doc Smash Burger and the Crispy Chicken Sandwich as our main meals. My only complaint is that the sandwiches came out on their own and I wish they included a side salad, fries, or chips. The sides are available to order separately though, this just makes them a little pricier but maybe there will be larger portions? The restaurant was very busy when we went early on a Saturday night. There was a little bit of a wait, but we didn't mind. The waitstaff was a little short with us, but that is probably just because they were busy and trying to keep things moving, which I totally respect! I would definitely recommend Doc Ponds as a casual restaurant option in Stowe with some delicious upscale bar food and drinks! read more

We had seen several reviews recommending Doc Ponds so we thought we would try it out. We were so thankful we did! It is such a cute place inside and they play great music! We started off with blue cheese fritters and well, our night could've been over and we would've been content! They were so creamy and delicious and had that strong blue cheese taste! I got the single bacon cheeseburger, which was cooked perfectly and messy just like a good burger should be. My mom got the chicken Caesar salad. It was huge! We also loved how it was chicken thighs instead of chicken breast, which tend to be a lot drier. We decided to share a basket of French fries. They were delicious!! But definitely just worth a share if there are 1-3 people, as the portion of fries was quite large. Our server was really nice as well! One of the good things were the ambiance which was cozy and warm and just exuded Vermont in a building with wood all around and a huge fireplace. The menu was extremely eclectic and did not make much cohesive sense. The spiced peanuts were good, but a small amount for $7. The fries were like fair fries and the aioli that went with them was very tasty. The calamari was excellent as was the salad but the fried chicken that we paid extra for the salad was overcooked and dried out. Service was very good and all the staff was very friendly. Been here twice for lunch-- do not recommend. Service is always okay, beer menu is really good (lots of VT brews on tap), but the food is just not good. We tried it a second time thinking maybe the first was an off day and were just as disappointed. Burger is flavorless, hardly comes with any toppings, and doesn't include a side, which for the price, it should. Fries are average. Mac and Cheese was flavorless and dry.
