Doc Ponds was a highlight of our trip to Stowe! We are a family of 4, with a 16 year old and 10 year old. We all agreed that Doc Ponds was the best meal we had in a while. The food was fantastic! A lot of potential, but not today. We were sold on coming when we saw a Brie brisket sandwich from another reviewer. Unfortunately, this was no longer on the menu but we thought we'd give something else a try...starting with French fries (these were good). Then we shared the carnitas sandwich and delicata squash. Both of these items have a lot of potential, but the chef missed the mark. The carnitas sandwich was 95% fat and we couldn't eat it. When we let the waitress know (not expecting anything other than providing feedback), she seemed annoyed but proceeded to provide a discount to accommodate us. Shifting to the squash...it's spicy. We are certain cayenne was used, even though the menu list pomegranate molasses...the skins weren't removed and overall just wasn't something we'd recommend. We left most of the bowl behind. Anyways. The menu does appear like it has potential just needed more TLC when making the food. We appreciate the wait staff trying to make up for the negative experience with the food, but also would appreciate the attentiveness from the waitress. They did seem short staffed, so she may have been stressed out but when a customer provided feedback...maybe take it more graciously? Overall, this feels like typical resort food. Very good food with a fresh and unique menu. Small parking lot in the back. Walked in but generally reservations are recommended. It can be a bit drafty and cold inside. 1. Mac and cheese - Properly cheesy and hot. Very good. 2. Jalapeño popper - delicious, not too spicy, large poppers and full of flavor 3. Crab dip - the crackers it comes with can be salty but the dip was good 4. Crispy chicken sandwich - good and crispy. Flavorful. Can be a little messy. 5. Put our name on the waitlist for a busy Friday night and by the time we got there we only had to wait a few minutes for our table to be ready even though our quoted time when we showed up was a little longer. Had an assortment of appetizers including one from the specials menu and a burger. Everyone in my party loved the food. read more

The nuts brought us back! Seriously, we first dined here about 4 years ago and tried their roasted peanuts as an app - smoky, warm, and so tasty. So unforgettable, that we stopped back in on this last trip. For our main course, we split the sausage and sauerkraut plate and ordered their fries. All were stellar - especially the sausage. Whenever we're in the Stowe area, we always find our way to Doc Ponds. The menu is simple, but the food is consistently delicious. A few weeks ago, we were in town and ended up visiting twice, both times for lunch. I ordered the smash burger on our first visit and the tostadas on the second, and both were great. The smash burger was delicious and exactly what I needed to satisfy my greasy cravings. We also ordered fries for the table, which were served with a delicious mayo-based sauce. The tostadas were on the lighter side but still packed with flavor! Although we were seated right away on both visits, our food took at least 30 minutes to arrive each time. To make matters worse, a family seated next to us - who arrived at least 10 minutes after we did - received their food before us, even though many of their meals were the same as ours. The service also wasn't the best - which seems to be typical. On both occasions, the servers didn't seem particularly happy to be working. That said, we still enjoyed our meals and the cozy atmosphere. The wood-burning fireplace really makes the space feel warm and homey. My husband and I stopped by Doc Ponds for dinner and, unfortunately, left feeling a bit underwhelmed. We ordered the baked mac and cheese as an appetizer, along with the sausage and potato entrée and dry-rub wings. The sausage entrée was just okay, but the potatoes were pretty bland and lacked flavor. The dry-rub wings were probably our biggest disappointment. While the wings were a decent size, they had way too much batter and were excessively salty. The baked mac and cheese was also just average. We've definitely had better. I was hoping for a richer, cheesier flavor, but it tasted more creamy than cheesy. On a positive note, the customer service was good, and we appreciated that. Overall, Doc Ponds was just okay for us. We visited Doc Ponds twice during a long weekend trip to Stowe. The service is friendly and fast, and the food is great (smash burger and fries highly recommended). A really solid place to visit. Really enjoyed our time here. Good food and good selection of beers. Kids menu was also available at a decent price. Would have loved to sit outside as it was such a nice day out however all the seats were already taken. The Caesar salad was nicely dressed and crisp. Immediately upon entering we were greeted by the hostess who took our names and said the wait was about 20 minutes. We ordered beers at the bar and were seated within 10 minutes. I stopped in recently and the kitchen absolutely delivered: everything was hot, well-seasoned, and honestly far better than I expected for a casual spot. Unfortunately, that's where the positives end. From the moment we sat down, the attitude from behind the bar set the tone in the worst way. The older woman tending bar was openly dismissive, rolled her eyes at simple questions about the menu, and made us feel like we were inconveniencing her every time we ordered a drink or asked for something basic like water or silverware. No greeting, no smile, and zero effort to be even minimally polite. At one point she dropped drinks in front of us without a word and walked away before we could even ask for what was missing. It's a shame, because the kitchen clearly cares, but the experience at the bar completely overshadowed how good the food was. If ownership ever addresses the front-of-house attitude, this could be a fantastic place, but until then, be prepared for excellent plates paired with some truly miserable service. read more
