fettuccine with cold smoked ground pork and tomato and cream brodo vodka and parmesan
Amelia M.

Doubt we will return. What? What did you say? I said we won't go back because we couldn't hear each other over the noise and a couple of very loud patrons. Despite the mixed reviews, we decided to try Plate. Given the need for reservations and prices, we were expecting elevated dining. The restaurant is small with maybe a dozen tables and about equal amount of bar space. Everyone was dressed very casually favoring plaid shirts and blue jeans. The menu is limited. The fried oysters tasted like a hush puppies and none of us could see or taste an oyster. The sushi tuna salad - who cut this tuna? I'm quite sure a 5 year old with a dull knife could do a better job (see photo). The pasta tasted homemade and was served topped with large shaved pieces of parmesan - artsy but I would have preferred parmesan be freshly grated at the table. I enjoyed the pasta but my friend did not like it at all. The strip steak was tasty and cooked perfectly - as far as steaks go, it was good but definitely not one of those truly great steaks. The arepas just sat there on the plate looking completely out of place - it seemed like they were added to be able to claim it was fusion. We were really looking forward to the pan fried potatoes but they were mushy - nothing crispy about them. With only 4 stalks, grilled broccolini was a battle to grab and I lost but I was told they were amazing. We were very pleased that we were able to get ample water and drinks. Overall the service was good and attentive but not very friendly. But none of that matters if it's so noisy that you can't hear each other!

I was pleasantly surprised by this restaurant! We went for dinner, one of the last nice weather weekends for the year, and they let us sit outside (with our dog). Only two tables outside, on both sides of the entrance, give you plenty of space and privacy. For dinner we ordered the fried zucchini, fettuccine (shiitake mushrooms, prosciutto, asparagus, white wine, and cream fraiche), grilled brined pork chop (with parsnip puree, grilled peaches, and herb butter). The zucchini dish was fantastic- the zucchini was shredded before it was fried, and it was still juicy when you bit into it. The batter was light, crunchy, and lightly salted with sea salt, and the aioli sauce paired well with it. The fettuccine was fresh, but was not the stand out dish; the pork chop is understandably their signature dish. The pork had a great sear on it, was a thick chop, and was very tender and juicy. The parsnip puree was rich and silky, and paired well the pork and peaches. The cocktails were all unique flavor combinations, and all very fresh. We tried 4 total and loved all 4. Service was great; our waiter was both helpful and friendly and made our night.

The ambience, perfection. The food, delicious. Plate was the perfect choice for a treat yourself meal after a long day of skiing.

I feel middle of the road about Plate. The atmosphere is definitely a bar atmosphere, quite loud and unrefined. The food is good, closer to gastropub than fine dining. Our server was all business, which I didn't mind for a busy place. Bottom line if you're looking for pricey food in a good spot with a casual vibe this is a decent choice. If you're looking for something that matches the price with a calmer ambience, I suggest you look elsewhere.

Inside of veggie burger-unbelievably good!

Restaurant: 8/10 super cute spot, very nice decor (kinda funky, gorgeous interior design, lots of color but also modern) would be good for a small group, maybe the AC was broken but it was CRAZY hot in there when we went for dinner! Staff: 11/10 SO SWEET and accommodating and friendly and just really down to earth, helpful and kind people. You're welcomed warmly as soon as you enter, and everyone is very on top of service and just being overall sweet. Food: *vegan crab cakes - 4/10 great texture, so bland. Not even that they didn't taste fishy they just had no flavor really at all. *veggie burger - 10/10 SO WORTH THE HYPE omg it was insanely good. I've eaten a lot A LOT of freakin veggie burgers and this surpassed them all easily. The flavor was out of this world delicious, savory little sweet, perfectly seasoned. I ordered with the roasted potatoes and they were 10/10 as well. *flank steak - 2/10 awful. Ordered rare, it was cooked to death. There was zero seasoning on it. The sides were just as bad unfortunately, roasted cauliflower and asparagus had no seasoning, and the sauce was watery. Really a bummer for such an expensive dish. Overall, I would totally go back for the burger and sweet staff!

My family had a great dinner and great service at Plate. Between us we had the mussels, fried oysters, and two salad for starters, then the shrimp fettuccine and steak for entrees. Everything was fresh and well seasoned. Our requests for additions and slight modifications were handled with no issue and the one item I didn't move was taken off our bill, no questions asked. We all loved our dishes but I was particularly impressed with the Thin Margin cocktail. It was gorgeous and tasty. Clearly there is thought put into everything at Plate.

Service is so slow, not kid friendly at all and food was terrible. Just do yourself a favor and don't waste your time.

Service was slow. Food was expensive and nothing to brag about. I had the fettuccine and it was not good at all. Drinks were good.

The food was amazing but the restaurant was extremely loud and the service was so so. I had the pork chop that was the best I've ever had.

Grant's - Steak and fries

Grant's

We got the ribeye and filet mignon and they were gone in seconds. Happy to see they don't just over salt their steaks. Desserts were always delicious. We were so excited to learn that when staying at the Stowe Village Inn, their restaurant, Grant's,…read morewould be open and available to us for dining. We thought they'd be closed when we were staying, but we were happily wrong, so we had the pleasure of eating some great food for dinner. Plus, as a hotel guest, they gave us a coupon for a free appetizer, which we used and enjoyed !! For the appetizer, we chose (and shared) the pan-seared crab cakes that came with charred corn succotash, sliced apple and fennel micro salad, cara cara orange and basil aioli. It was delicious. For our entrees, my husband chose the Citrus Brined Grilled Pork Porterhouse, which included smoked gouda polenta, chipotle, crispy artichokes, charred scallion & toasted pepitas salsa verde. I ordered the Roasted Statler Chicken, which came with Saffron risotto, romesco, charred broccolini, and lined with a slight amount of chili oil. We also ordered a side of mashed potatoes infused with Cabot Creamery cheddar cheese, as well as some broccolini. All our food was delicious, especially those cheesy mashed potatoes, but unfortunately, we couldn't eat all our food, and nor could we save it. Boo-hoo. We both would've had enough left over for a second meal. Easily. I hate wasting food. There was no way we had room for dessert, so our meal ended with very full tummies and the enjoyment of well prepared entrees. There is a bit of historic significance to this restaurant. There is a reason it's called Grant's. The wrap around wooden bar top supposedly was restored from Harlem, New York where President Ulysses S. Grant MAY HAVE sat, drank and possibly smoked cigars. There are still old cigar burns left in the wood ! Regardless if it's legend or fact, it's a beautiful bar sitting in this fine restaurant. Go find out for yourself !
