What a pleasant surprise this was! I was coming to buy Girl Scout Cookies as they were being sold there yesterday (Friday) and I am a sucker for Girl Scouts as my nana spoiled me growing up and bought me boxes of Thin Mints whenever Girl Scout Cookie Season came around. Luckily, i was able to snag the last box of Thin Mints and a box of Trefoils, so I am not complaining. Since I was already at the location, I thought why not try the restaurant. I did not know what to expect and honestly I did not factor in that it was a buffet. Coming from Miami originally (though currently living in Saint Albans), I was lucky (no pun intended ^_^) to have had some really great buffets to experience in Miami, FL (ie. Kyojin in South Miami, Canton in Coral Gables, POC in Coral Gables) but I was craving Chinese food as I had not had any in so long. Lucky Buffet did not disappoint. They had sit down dining service as well as to go service. I am not sure if they deliver. If they did that would be amazing! But it was pretty busy which is always a good sign for a restaurant because it means they are doing good business and there is a demand for it. I ended up eating with my eyes and then my stomach because i filled 2 to go containers with a variety/assortment of foods like General Tso's chicken (my favorite), chicken & broccoli, crunchy and flavorful snap peas, crispy wonton noodles, very breaded/fluffy battered chicken tenders, and some vegetable fried rice that i doused in the General Tsao's sauce). I also got some of these Buttered scalloped potatoes which O-M-G were so darn good. They also had sliced onion mixed into the batch and no complaints there. It came out to a total of $38. There was a sign that said it was like $7.95 for pound of food and I figured I would splurge since I am not sure when I would be back there. I walk everywhere and in the cold, frigid temps, it's a bit cumbersome (and dangerous) to walk with food like that over icy sidewalks and slushy-muddy snow. I can't speak to what dining in would be like, but it seemed pretty decent. There was a steady flow of customers coming in and out which is always good to see. I also liked how they had fortune cookies sitting on display in the middle of the place for guests to take. I took about six lol I can't resist a good old fashioned fortune cookie:) If I ever happen to be walking by again, I would consider it again, but it is a lot of food. So you have to go on an empty stomach and also try not to over indulge or else you will have tummy issues. Chinese food is notorious for having MSG, but I am not sure if they use that there. I will say that they had a pretty decent dessert bar and ice cream selection. The people of Saint Albans are "lucky" to have this restaurant in their midsts. Also parking is pretty ample for those that have vehicles and the restaurant itself seemed pretty clean and well organized. If buffet items got low, they immediately would replenish them. The food was hot and ready to go. A plus was the little keychains being sold at the front at the counter. I had to get a Stitch one because I love the Stitch character. He's so cute ^_^ They also had a Spiderman one and Hello Kitty one so any fans of those characters would be pleasantly surprises and amused to see them being sold there once you check out and pay. The food selection was very good...we enjoyed everything that we tried. We are moving up to the area so we will be visiting there more frequently! The service is very efficient both bringing beverages but mostly clearing dishes from the table. (It makes me crazy at any restaurant when they don't clear the empty dishes!) This buffet was surprisingly tasty. Their options, although limited, were really good! Great ice cream and the waiters came to our table to refill our drinks and take our cleared plates away! The servers were very kind and it was a nice place. There were some traditional Chinese decorations everywhere. They did have some non-Asian food, but were limited. The Lucky Buffet is now my go to for Chinese food in St Albans. I like the lightly battered fried chicken wings, baked fish, chicken skewer, sautéed prawns. Food is mostly but not exclusively Chinese. I have seen spinach Florentine, roast beef, meatballs, roasted fingerling potatoes, and a seafood cheese bake. As far as Chinese buffets go not too shabby. It was lacking in beef dishes. We did go at lunch so I would be interested in trying them at dinner time. Service is par usual for a buffet, just drinks and taking the used dishes away. Staff were friendly. read more

A solid option in Rail City. It's clean, orderly, and the service is good. The flavor range is a bit narrow: most everything tastes a lot like everything else (sweet and rich). Not an uncommon state of things, so I won't fault them for it. Nicely done and worth remembering. It's an easy-to-get-to location with ample at-the-door parking. We came at the dinner hour and I was hoping for the crab legs or something special due to the supper hours. However, was disappointed due to it being a review for just lunch hour specials. The food was tasty but nothibg to be wowed about. Before I had come here and when they had originally opened the restaurant. I bosted about how this buffet had upped the buffet game. However, now its meh. When I walked in there was 5 employees at the front and only 1 said hi. The others could have cared less I walked into their restaurant. Which thats a big turn off for me. The environment was somewhat clean. However, there was a pile of,serving spoons and tongs they have out exposed on the buffet line, which displayed that they are exposed to ppl touching them who potentially did not wash their hands. (Which honestly, its a buffet so thats probably why they have that idea doing that in the first place). The hibachi area wasn't open and I was looking towards that but no go there. Jimmy's. That's what I call it. It's not the lucky Buffet, its the Buffit...and thus I'll call it Jimmy's. Why? Cause I freaking said so, ok? Yeah, we used to go to the St Albans Cafeteria up near Rite Aid....and it was ok. Actually, i kind of miss their mediocrity. I dunno, Jimmy's has a lot of options, like, an ass load....but I never seem entirely satisfied. Also, if you're sensitive to temperature and smell you might want to go on an off peak hour. The AC in there is ok, but it doesn't really make a huge dent. Combine that with a billion of St Albans finest packed in like cattle and you get the sweet combination of heat and stank. Just being honest. That aside, its not bad. If you're up for all you can eat chicken fingers, pizza and pineapple, then Jimmy's is gonna be like a jackpot for you. read more

While traveling between Canada and VT we decided to stop in at this Chinese buffet for lunch. This was the first time visiting/dining in the area, so we weren't quite sure what to expect. After having lunch here, we thoroughly loved the experience and encourage everyone to eat here instead of the other Chinese buffet in town. The difference between the two were the fact that the food quality here is better, the restaurant is clean, the service is great and the bathrooms weren't disgusting. One of the better Chinese buffets I have been to. If anyone remembers the Mongolian grill that used to be in Burlington, it's quite similar. The best part of the lucky is the hibachi. You can achieve a fairly healthy meal with the use of the hibachi and some less saucy foods on the buffet. The addition of some nice fresh vegetables, even steamed, some peel and eat shrimp would make this a frequent must eat place. I would like to know tho why every time I go into a Japanese or Chinese restaurant and order a Sapporo, they stare at me blankly and I have to point it out to them on the beer list. With only about 7 beer choices, I find it fascinating they have no idea what I am ordering. read more

Not bad for the price... its a little greasy but thats the only flaw I can see that might make another chinese buffet better than this. The lunch price is a great value, I think its $6.25 for all you can eat.. if you go to McDonalds that will buy you a single big mac meal. So at least with this buffet you get lots of choices, huge variety. The variety here is much better than the small buffet near the old JC Penneys. I've been here about 10 times and never had a bad meal. We came in on a Sunday afternoon and they had the standard fare for Chinese buffets plus very uncommon buffet items like a roast to carve (which was very good) and peanut chicken (also very good). We decided to give this place another try after 3 months and sadly it has actually gone down hill. We got to buffet around 5:15 pm on a Friday, and the place was busy. Several buffet dishes were empty, selection was chicken, chicken and more chicken.... soups were bland. Just an overall bad experience. Would not recommend and will not be going back. Service was good for a buffet, but I really did not care much for the food. The cost for dinner for 3 adults and one 5 year old child was around $65.
