I needed a drastic change in hair color and Nikos helped talk me through the best options. Rather than just dyeing my hair and letting me leave, he discussed the best options to keep my hair healthy and to regain its strength. It's clear that he cares about his customers and that it's not just a job for him. read more

UPDATE - the price of a Men's haircut was dropped to $20 earlier this year I've been going to Miracles for over 3 years. As of March '08 the price of a Men's haircut runs $40. That's steep. But there is something to be said for having someone you trust will give you a quality cut every time. I just tell Eli 'the usual' and it's as easy as that. Also, for me Miracles is about convenience. I don't want to spend my Saturday mornings at a barbershop waiting 40 minutes just to get the right to have my haircut by some wildcard barber I haven't seen there before. Miracles is only 1/2 block away from my office and I can pop over at lunch or immediately after work. read more

Called right when the salon opened to beg them for a miracle because my young daughter developed a softball sized knot at the crown of her head from time spent in the pool. Nikos, the salon owner, spent hours HOURS trying to work the knots out. In fact, every stylist in the salon graciously took a turn when they had a moment to spare. In the end, some of it had to be cut out but they saved as much as they could. What might have been an extremely frightening experience for my daughter turned into an adventure because of their care, grace, attention, and kindness. I couldn't recommend this salon or the people there more. They went above and beyond. read more

I hate to write a bad review or complain but I'm from out of town (West Coast) and had trouble finding a hair salon that wasn't for ethnic hair and that had good reviews closer to my location in Alexandria. I was looking for a place to do an updo for a formal event I was attending. I contacted Miracles on Wednesday December 4th to make an appointment for Saturday December 7th. I spoke to the owner via Yelp messages and he scheduled me for an appointment at 12:30pm. I sent him two pictures of similar styles I wanted and also informed him that my hair is very long but not thick. The day before my appointment the owner contacted me to tell me that my stylist canceled due to the flu and asked if I could come in earlier at 11:45 to see another stylist. I was understanding about the cancellation since it is flu season. But I didn't want to come in earlier since the original appointment was already early (as the event wasn't until 5pm). I wanted to give myself enough time after the hair appointment to do my makeup before the event and wasn't sure how long the updo would take. So I was given the option to come in at 2:45pm. So I agreed and had to do my makeup prior to the hair appointment to ensure I wasn't late for the event. When I arrived I was checked in and told to have a seat on the couch. I wasn't told who'd be taking care of me when the rescheduling took place. I was approached by a young woman who asked if I was there for a haircut and I told her no, for an updo. She walked away without saying anything and then I was approached by a woman who introduced herself as Lona (I think). She sat me in the styling chair and I showed her the same two pictures I sent to the owner. She said she would do the style in the back and one side of my head (like the picture). When she started working on separating my hair into sections, I could immediately tell she was having a little trouble because my hair is so long and soft and tangles easily. She was kind of fighting with my hair because it gets caught on everything. But I still had faith at this point. She did not put any styling product in my hair (only hairspray). She started with a curling iron but immediately switched to a straight iron which I found odd because I have trouble curling my hair at home with a straight iron. But I have no issues using a wand. But I guess it's a matter of preference? I immediately noticed there was little to no counter space so she was working from a rolling cart which apparently had no where to rest a hot straight iron on it so she put it ON THE FLOOR (since it was tile I'm assuming) which of course is disgusting for obvious reasons and she wrapped my hair all the way around the straight iron. But I didn't want to cause a scene so I said nothing. I mean I didn't really see any visible solutions. So she started at the back of my head and I naturally I couldn't see her work. She was so rough with digging the Bobby-pins into my scalp, I thought she was trying to pierce my skin. But I still said nothing. When she reached the front she said the if she pinned my hair in "rings" laying flat on the side of my head it would look funny and then asked if I agreed. Well of course it would look funny since that's not what the picture looked like. So she said she was going to pull the hair to the back of my head and pin it there. Since my hair is so long, I'm confused as to why she chose to do such small "rings". She could've gotten away with doing bigger ones and it probably would've been quicker. And yes I have bangs, but they're long (to my chin). Why she chose to leave them down, when clearly both pictures I showed them were completely off the face, I remain clueless. Since I wear glasses, I think the bangs are too busy the way she styled them. She also wore glasses so I'm surprised she didn't know a more flattering to accommodate my glasses. She spent an hour on my hair and the end result looked NOTHING like either of the pictures I showed them and on top of it all, the bobby pins were extremely visible. Like she didn't even try to hide them. When she showed me the back of my head I was speechless because the style didn't even have a flattering overall shape. I was charged a whopping $80. I didn't have time to ask her to fix it so I tipped her (very well) because I felt obligated, to and just left. I will soon be moving to Virginia and will NOT be returning to this salon. **UPDATE** The owner offered to refund my money and I refused to take a full refund but accepted a 50% refund. I would be willing to give this salon another chance (just not the junior stylist who did my updo). read more

I ventured back to Ray awhile ago to get my ends trimmed up. Last night I went back to do an overhaul. My hair was looking gruesome. I was a little nervous about doing anything drastic or intricate because I never know what I'm going to get, especially with a relatively new stylist. I found a haircut online that I liked (thank you, Alexa Chung) and looked like it would actually work on my hair so I brought pics along for reference. I showed Ray what I liked, didn't like and we came to a mutual decision about what he would do. We chatted a little more than we did in my previous visits, which was nice (I'm not chatty). And for the first time in a long time, if not ever, the final haircut actually looked like the picture I brought in. Ray didn't do any crazy styling that I wouldn't be able to recreate at home and I left feeling like a million bucks. He went a little overboard with the products but that's nothing a little shampoo couldn't take care of. I was able to style it the same way this morning which is a feat unto itself. I am thoroughly impressed. Other items of note: - They finally painted the place (orange/gray) and it feels a little crisper. - I was offered wine this time! - Only complaint: the chairs in the washroom are not particularly comfortable. I felt like my neck was going to kink up. read more

I love this place! I've been there a couple times now and it keeps getting better. I wasn't thrilled the 1st time I went but the atmosphere totally makes up for it. You feel like you know these people. My stylist is Voula and she is just the sweetest. You have actual conversation and not just small talk. I'm going to be so bummed when I move because this place is walking distance for me but I know I will still continue to go there. I've had cut and color there and am very please with both. I value their opinion and really I just have her do what she wants. :) I would recommend this place to anyone. Plus, you cannot beat the prices!! read more

First time going there, was a bit nervous, but that changed as soon as I walked in. I was warmly greeted and introduced to Nicos, who kindly asked me to have a seat while he finished up with his current client. Once he was done, he sat me down and patiently discussed with me what kind of cut and styling I wanted. 30 minutes after that, I told him it was the best cut and style I had gotten in years, truly! If anyone out there is tired of getting their hair trashed by their local cheap cuttery, I highly recommend Miracles, which honestly won't cost you more than a few dollars compared to the local joint. I found out about Miracles from good Yelp reviews. I went to their Web site and they run some pretty amazing deals - especially cut and color packages that are just $99. I actually like that you can purchase prior to your appointment online through Google checkout. Just makes it that much easier. So I was looking for a new place to go with a better price than my last salon and I thought I would give Miracles a try based on the reviews. I had my hair done by Ray. My hair had just been wrecked by another guy at my former salon trying to do an all over color for fall. I came to Ray to get my highlights back and a good cut. I was not disappointed. Not only is Ray very friendly and knowledgeable, but he just did a great job. You really can't beat the price either! Don't expect the salon to be super-duper fancy, but it is nice, conveniently located and family-owned (everyone is very friendly). They even offer you a cocktail while you enjoy your experience! read more

I absolutely hate getting my hair cut. Usually I go on Saturday mornings because I can never fit a cut and color in after work, and I'm usually hungover on Saturday mornings. I dread waking up, getting to the salon, and having someone pull and mess with my head after a night of heavy drinking. That being said, the staff at Miracles make my morning 100% better. They're fun, friendly, offer me wine (and bring me water when the thought of alcohol turns my stomach), and of course, do a great job on my hair. I love when hair stylists listen to what you want, and then actually DO it, and that's what they do here. I have about 10 years worth of some bad, some good dye jobs in my hair, and Olympia does an awesome job at working with it to bring out a really nice color. Plus, as I found out last time I was there, they have a sort of deep conditioning oil that they put in all their color, so your hair is actually softer when you come out - something my poor hair needs. She told me about their Miracles Oil Treatment, and I'm really excited to go back and get one (that is, of course, when I finally motivate myself to get out of bed on a Saturday). And, I'm the kind of person that doesn't get their hair done enough to care about price, so if people do a good job I'll pay whatever. But, it's nice to know that the best salon I've found in the area is also the best-priced salon! 5 Stars!! read more

I had a haircut and perm with Zen and my hair turned out amazing! Zen was so meticulous with her placement of the rods, the chemical formula and time management. This was the quickest and best perm I've ever had and I have had a perm every year since I was 14. I was having a hard time finding a salon that offered expert permanents and this is the best place. They are amazing with haircuts and I am a loyal customer here now. read more

Amazing value for the price. I visited Miracles on a recommendation from a friend, who always goes to Ray and loves her cuts every time. I read some reviews for Hao since Ray was booked on my preferred day, and he was great. I barely had to wait 5 minutes, even though I was 10 minutes early and they were fairly busy. The place was bright and lively, everyone looking like they were having a blast, but still very laid back - I did not feel underdressed like I do at most salons. Hao understood that I really didn't want too much cut off, and trimmed my hair to the perfect length - keeping it long but still getting all the split ends off. He cut the layers perfectly and knew exactly what I wanted. The cut was never rushed and Hao took his time blow-drying and styling my hair beautifully (with very minimal product, definitely a plus!). He's definitely not very talkative, but I liked that I didn't have to make small talk every 2 minutes. My only complaint is that I would have liked a more dramatic side bang, but I may have not been as clear as I should've in the beginning. I will definitely be going back, but will probably bring a picture next time. read more

I moved to DC under a year ago, and have since tried several places to get a good, affordable haircut. Thank GOODNESS a friend told me about Miracles! In spite of being the cheapest place around, ($20 for a men's short haircut, shampoo, and styling - plus, they bring you complimentary cocktails, wine, or water!), they are also without a doubt the best! I was finally happy with my haircut. Elie (not sure how it's spelled) is incredible and very friendly, and he always remembers me when I come in. The place is easy to find and very walkable from the Rosslyn metro (about 5 minutes). The other staff are also incredibly friendly every time I come in. Don't just walk in, definitely make an appointment. Especially do this early if you're trying to get in on the weekend, because availability can sometimes be scarce then. But you will definitely not be disappointed with this place! Thanks, Miracles!! read more

I went to Miracles a while ago and forgot to write a review- as a serial salon "dater," I have been trying to find the perfect place and alas, Miracles, despite their fab yelp reviews, didn't do it for me-- not from a hair perspective, but a personal one. The gentleman who highlighted and styled my hair did a reasonable job. My problem was with the fact he just couldn't-stop-talking-100-mph & his conversation topics made me cringe. I can't remember his name (I think he was thai...maybe?) He just raved on about clubs, bouncers, parties, his girlfriends, NYC & DC, and it was just very personal info I really didn't want to know. I just felt really uncomfortable the whole time. True, my hair looked great when I left, but it was like I had been cornered by a person I didn't want to speak with and couldn't get away..... The salon is supposed to be relaxing and my Miracles experience wasn't: I left more drained than before going in. read more

When I FINALLY decided to get my hair cut, and after reading the generally positive reviews about Miracles on Yelp, I decided to go here. I arrived 10 minutes early for my appointment, but my stylist was with a client, so I just waited and observed the decor. The space is pretty large and well-lit. The rug was noticeably covered with hair clippings, which was a turn off, but other than that, the place was spotless. Twenty-five minutes later, I was still waiting on my stylist, who was dealing with a seemingly needy customer. I didn't have anywhere to go right away, so I just kept waiting. It would have been nice to have a magazine on hand, but I didn't see any lying around. Once I was in the chair, the stylist went down to business. I got a simple layered cut. My stylist was professional and not overly talkative. I was in and out of the chair after 20 minutes. I loved my cut and style, and although I had to wait, the price for a cut was right ($35). Also, remember to bring some cash for tips since you can't charge it to your credit card. read more

As for someone who rarely ever gets their hair done, Miracles was an amazing first time experience. I used the Cut and Full Highlight Groupon and got my hair dyed for the first time. Amazing experience, will definitely be returning! :) read more

Just got a cut and partial highlights with Hao at Miracles and walked out with EXACTLY what I asked for (how many times have you truly been able to say that?). My sunkissed, barely noticeable highlights are perfect! I have been going to Miracles consistently for about 2.5 years ever since I read some great reviews. I am probably the most picky person about my hair - it's thick, somewhat coarse, and medium-long in length. (I cried in 8th grade when I had a bad cut.) If I don't dry it, it gets unruly and frizzy. Needless to say, I think it has "special needs." I made an appointment with George because of all the positive reviews and have never been happier and recommend him to all my friends. He is very meticulous, takes his time, friendly (but not overly chatty) and will spend as long as you need on your hair to ensure you're happy with it. If you're looking for a new cut or a better version of your go-to, George is your man. A wash, cut, and blow dry is $49 and I think that's very fair, especially for our area. read more

I have had my haircut here many times in the past. But, today, today!!! I felt like I found my forever stylist. Michael did not only ask me the direct questions about what I wanted for a hair cut. He went straight to work. He was funny, and cheerful. And, even though you couldn't see a smile as it was masked away, you could see the joy in his eyes from cutting a customers hair. He is very very precise and detailed. I can't wait to go back to Michael in the future. read more

Man of DC if you tired getting your hair trashed you need to come in miracles ASAP!! Best salon in dmv area hands down!

Yes, they do man's haircut and at a very fair price-20 $ .I personally think paying anything more than that for my hair is waste of money :-) .Very friendly staff. I go to Eli for past 3 years and he does a good job and is very professional. But i am greeted and welcomed by all others working there like they know me. I like that. I would say only negative thing is, they are very crowded on Saturday and you see the haste in services as they try to catch up on schedule. I prefer to go on weekday, but that is true for any saloon. read more

I live right down the street from Miracles, and after my first visit a couple of weeks ago, I'm mad at myself for not having gone sooner. This place is wonderful. First and foremost, my haircut was perfect. Maria listened to what exactly I wanted, while also offering her advice, which I was more than happy to take since she clearly knew what she was talking about. What's more, every person that works there that I interacted with was friendly, welcoming, and gracious. And the price, especially considering the expensive Arlington location and the quality of the work, was perfectly reasonable. I highly recommend this salon, and will most certainly be going back. read more

She just started cutting and my hair looked awful with NO style. I will NEVER go back there

Dang it, it's with sadness that I write this review, because I just can't go back after my last haircut. Really the "meh, I've experienced better" is true, because I have, and it was right here! They're always really nice there, and the prices are really competitive, especially for the men's haircut (only 20 bucks!) and it might be different for females, but the last cut I got was just really uneven, especially over the ears. I'm talking almost an inch off. And, as in college football and life, we now live in a "what have you done for me recently" world. Now that I'm solidly and unfortunately in "the real world" now, I can't be looking "not right", so I'm now in the market for a new place to get haircuts. I may also have to change how I think of haircuts...I usually try to go as long as possible between cuts, but I hear that's not how most people do it? PS. If you've counted, there were 4 quotation brackets. What horrible writing. read more

Found this place on Yelp and decided to give it a try. I wanted something that wasn't going to kill my pockets or my hair. I moved to the DC area from a place where a hairdresser friend of mine did my hair for 3 years and really knew what I liked, so it was difficult to have a new person. I got a cut and all over color for $95 by Voula. She was very nice and attentive to my desires and even had several good suggestions. The final outcome was next to perfect. I love the color and cut, but it felt a little more like a rushed get-in-and-get-out operation than I'm used to, and the hairdresser doesn't even wash your hair for you (something I'm used to). They are loud, and often offer you wine, beer and maybe even a shot of alcohol. Their music is loud, they love to gossip and it's a very fun and fast moving atmostphere. Perfect balance between quality service and price. I will definitely go back. read more

Bottom line: I received a quality haircut from a skilled stylist at a great price and I will be returning. This is not like most of the hair salons you find in Arlington, which can be good or bad, depending on the type of experience you're looking for. The interior is clean, but not trendy or swanky. They offer beverages, but it's Yuengling and cheap wine. The staff is very friendly and not at all pretentious. You don't feel as though you need to be dressed in your Saturday night finest to get your hair done. And, finally, you don't have to skip meals for a month to get a quality haircut! Just from my first visit, I can tell they have a very good clientele base, as all of the stylists knew the other customers in there by name. I felt like the newcomer, for sure. My appointment was Friday evening at 6pm. I was greeted promptly and waited about 10 minutes before Hae, my stylist was ready for me. During the consultation he really listened to what I wanted, studied the pictures on my phone and didn't rush me at all. He gave his professional opinion and we went from there. He took his time during the cut and I didn't feel forced to have awkward conversation (you know how that goes). In the end I was very pleased with the results, as was he; I think my favorite part of the experience was hearing him exclaim "Oh, it looks so much better! I love it!" Of course I forgot cash for tip. Whoops. I just ran across the street to the nearest ATM. One star is deducted because I wish they offered waxing services and some of the staff were acting a little unprofessional, but I think it's just because they knew that particular client so well. read more

I'm new to the area and was looking for a place to get a cut and highlights, so when a groupon deal came up for Miracles, I went ahead and bought it. I made an appointment and was greeted by the woman at the front desk as soon as I came in, and sent to Elie. I explained what I was looking for in terms of color (a partial highlight) and cut (keeping the length but cleaning up the ends), showed him a quick photo of my desired color and he said he knew exactly what I was looking for. He worked quickly and was very friendly and talkative throughout, and he was right about knowing what I wanted - the color was perfect. The one drawback was the cut. In the end, I like it, but I had asked for just a trim and ended up with about 3-4 inches less than I came in with. In fairness it had been a long time since my last haircut so maybe it was necessary, but nevertheless slightly different than my original request. That being said I'll certainly come back here again, groupon or not! read more

I've been a happy client of Voula at Miracles for years, but I just had my first haircut since March. I went to Miracles after seeing the reviews and sending my Mom as a guinea pig to get her haircut. Needless to say, Elie did a great job with her (he did highlights and haircut) as he did with me. We talked the whole time I was there, he is incredibly nice. Before I knew it, he was blow-drying my hair. I can't believe how fast he did everything. I got everything done in less than an hour!!!! My haircut was amazing! I am so so happy with it. Evenmore because the shampoo+haircut+blowdry only set me back $30!!! :-D A few days before, when I went to make my appointment, I got my brows threaded by a woman named Ritu (I think that's her name, she's the only one that does threading in the salon). She was so nice and did the whole job in less than 5 minutes!!! I was very impressed with her work. I barely felt it! (Given that I had threading done two weeks before and don't shave my brows). I also have to talk about the amazing haircut Voula gave my friend. She got her hair done at the same time as me. She was so nice to both of us and gave her a great cut! I must also talk about their hospitality. I found it so cute that Voula's sister makes pies and other treats for the customers. Everyone is so nice-spirited there. I would recommend this place to anyone!!! read more

4.5 stars My fiance and I both go to Elie, and he does a great job with both of us. My hair is pretty easy to deal with--long, straight, and thick-ish in long layers--but my fiance has deceivingly difficult hair to cut and style well. Elie does a phenomenal job every time, and I refuse to let him get his hair cut by anyone else, haha. This place is great for haircuts (only thing I've had done here) and is budget-friendly as well. I also agree with the advice to book an appointment in advance, especially for late afternoons and weekends. read more

I'm relatively new to the area and have been here twice (once for a haircut once for a gloss and cut). I've had Elie both times and he is great. He's attentive and very friendly. For my first appointment I was over 25 minutes late and he still squeezed me in, which I thought was very nice. A haircut is 30$ and a semi-permanent gloss is 60$, which I do think is reasonable. The complimentary beer/wine is a nice touch. My only complaint is the time management. I waited 20 minutes after my appointment time once, and I noticed that others were waiting as well. Maybe it was just an 'off' day. read more

Five star rating! First time customer. This place is fantastic. Great ownership and very talented staff. Highly recommended.

Haircut review for men: I have used Miracles now several times and have been pleased with the result. The cost is on the higher side, but it is comparable to similar establishments. If you go, do yourself a favor and book an appointment with George. You will get consistency and speed. Definitely beats out the competitors! With that being said, if you are looking for your average buzz cut -- go to a local barbershop for $10 . . . $30 really doesn't justify a buzz cut. BUT, if you are looking for real haircut . . . see George. read more

I went here on the recommendation of a friend. Seeing they were close to my place of employment, I figured I would try them out after work a night - especially since $30 for a haircut is hard to come by in this city. My friend recommended her stylist, Voulla, so I requested her upon scheduling my appointment. I arrived early and was greeted promptly by one of the employees, and took a seat while Voulla finished up her client before me. She was friendly, and took the time to look at a picture I had on my phone of a look I was hoping to achieve with the hairstyle. I loved the products they used - my hair smelled great afterward - and they didn't try to force some product on me because of my dry scalp. Everywhere else I go, they give me tea tree shampoo or some dry hair product that always, always, always makes it much worse! She listened to what I wanted and made it happen. When I asked for suggestions, she was happy to help. The cut was fabulous, and I received a lot of compliments on it. I will definitely be back there. As someone else mentioned, you can pay with credit card, but the tip needs to be in cash. I was in the awkward situation of having to run to an ATM to get a tip post-haircut! :-) read more

NOT a great experience! I gave this place the benefit of the doubt because it was right down the street, and there were some glowing reviews sprinkled in with the poor ones. That was a mistake. I was able to get a next-day appointment, but my stylist and I ended up having a HUGE miscommunication that resulted in an uneven fringe bang; I asked for a sweep bang, and had a good size photograph reference with me. We are talking about bangs a good inch too short. It may have been the language barrier, because he spoke a minimal amount of English and was very hard to understand. But I DID have a photo, so I really don't see what was lost in translation. The deep conditioning treatment and trim of the rest of my hair were fine. The main salon space was clean and decently populated with Ikea lamps, but the shampoo area is awkwardly placed across from the laundry and kitchen equipment, which isn't a very relaxing experience. I also got "walked in on" by an employee while using the only bathroom, that doubles as a coat closet (ew). Luckily I had just entered, but since it was a door off of the main salon area you'd have thought he saw me... more awkward. read more

I finally got to the point with my hair today that I was like...I need it cut and now! I called up Miracles because they are about a block away from my work and they got such good reviews on here. I was able to get the last open appointment of the day and I was excited. I didnt have to wait at all once I got there and sat down with Hao to talk about what I wanted. He was super friendly and said he thought I should leave my hair long and not cut too much off. I agreed! I was then whisked away to get a really nice and long shampoo. Back in the chair with Hao and he asked me if I had any Thanksgiving plans and when I was getting married but most of the time I got to close my eyes and just relax while he did his thing. He took his time and made sure the cut looked right which I really appreciated even though his next client showed up. Most of the time with salons I feel like they are rushing you out of the door to get to their next client. Love the haircut and the best part is it was only $30! read more
