I visited Aesthetics Salon in August 2025 for a hair consultation, hoping to find a new, experienced hair stylist for my biweekly hair care needs. Although I was unable to find a stylist whose schedule matched mine, I had an AMAZING hair consultation with the owner, Yene. She is clearly an experienced trichologist who took the time to really listen to my concerns and goals. I was given honest feedback regarding the health of my hair and scalp. Yene provided a much needed recommendation to get a hair biopsy and referred me to an experienced dermatologist in McLean, Virginia. Her overall assessment was professional and helpful. I am so grateful for her honest, professional advice without any pressure. I appreciated how knowledgeable she was about scalp needs, hair health, and maintenance -- it made me feel completely confident in her expertise. I was thoroughly impressed by the experience! The salon itself was welcoming, clean, and relaxing, and my overall experience left me feeling confident and informed about the next steps for my hair care. Yene even followed up with me after my appointment via email. My only challenge was the parking, which can be a bit limited -- typical for Northern Virginia. The customer service at the salon is questionable. A friend recommended this place therefore I attempted to lock-in an appointment through their webpage as guided online, which doesn't work. The next day I called and informed the receptionist of the web issue and she disclosed the portal doesn't work for new clients (??). So I proceeded to schedule an appointment but no availability until March! Though I was disappointed by the wait I decided to proceed to schedule. The receptionist then asked if I'd like to be referred to another salon, which was strange. I responded no, and to book the appointment. She then asked do I have chemicals in my hair and I told her I have an old keratin treatment that I'm growing out. She then said I they only treat "natural hair" and they can't offer any services to chemically treated hair. I kindly informed her that I hadn't had a keratin in over a year and I'm transitioning from keratin. She then booked my appointment upon going back and forth. WORST EXPERIENCE OF MY LIFE. I was asking for light brown highlights to my dark brown hair. The completed product came out with my hair completely red! I even had an in person consultation prior to my appointment about my desires with photo reference & was assured my goal could be achieved. Not to mention it was my first time coloring my hair and I told her how I was really nervous about doing it. I was very confused on how far off my hair was when done from what I asked for. Not only was the bright red color wrong & not what I asked for but my whole head was basically died not highlighted. I left the Salon crying & immediately was going to wash out what was done at home. The person who did my hair offered to try to fix it but could not get me in for another few days because she said she was booked & only was able to make it less red. I had to wait 6 months before I could go to someone else to recolor it as I was worried about damaging my hair. It was about 8 months out from my wedding and I had to wear a weave for my wedding because of what happened. I wouldn't trust the color services at this salon. Recently I visited this salon for the first time as my daughter bought me a gift card for my birthday. What I experienced here was unprofessional and will not be returning. 1. I had an early morning Saturday appointment that was cancelled and rescheduled for a late evening appointment on a Sunday. 2. I requested a wash n' go service. After my conditioner was rinsed out of my hair I was asked to return to the stylist chair with dripping wet hair. No towel was offered until the my clothes and the floor became drenched after I stood up. 3. When it was time to pay for my service I let my stylist (Lehem) know that I would be paying for part of the service with a gift card from Aesthetics Salon that was purchased for me by my daughter as a gift. The stylist immediately responded with, "we do not accept gift cards." I let her know that it was a gift card purchased from their salon. She then started speaking in her language to another person in the salon and that person responded back to me by telling me that they do not accept gift cards. Keep in mind that the stylist NEVER TRIED entering the gift card in their system. I reminded her that the gift card was purchased from their place of business. She proceeded to question me about when it was purchased and that it was probably expired. I assured her that there was no expiration date on the card nor did my daughter receive anything letting her know the card had an expiration date. The card had only been purchased a few months prior to the appointment. After going back and forth with this person, she finally tells the stylist "you can try it" as if it was not going to work and of course the card was good and had the correct amount. I have issue with the fact the entire time I was there the stylist spoke perfect English but when she had an issue with me paying with the gift card she needed to converse with her co-worker in a different language so that I could not understand the conversation. I contemplated for weeks before writing this review. Let me say that I tried a few stylists here before realizing that this just wasn't the salon for me, but the last stylist has really traumatized me. I went to Liyou after a previous stylist did a perfunctory job on my style. The style was horribly done and didn't last me the ride home. The first time Liyou did my hair, however, I loved the style. (though she is quick tempered and not warm or courteous when you speak to her.) This should have been a red flag, but I gave her the benefit of the doubt. Fast forward a few weeks, I go in for a trim, and she tells me that I would need more of a cut. I hear her out, but tell her that I only wanted a trim. She proceeds to cut my hair into a bob style. When I expressed my dissatisfaction she tells me: "I didn't cut that much off." Typical gaslighting technique that is countered by everyone I encounter who compliment and question me about my "new bob." My hair has never been one length. She cut my hair to match the length of my shortest layer and I'm devastated. I take pride in my hair and spend a lot of time and money to maintain my crown, but it's hard to look at myself now. Almost two months later and I'm still waiting for it to come back :( I am writing this to warn anyone thinking a high profile salon is above the base intentions of those who see the world through shades of jade. read more

Wanted to support an emerging black business but paid close to $300 for a basic trim & twist. The stylist Liyou wasnt very engaged/seemed like she didn't care (weird for a new client) and I wasn't impressed with their trimming technique. They just do a blunt cut at the bottom and don't go through your hair in layers. Very basic. Booked an appt for color and forgot to cancel. Rightfully they had to uphold their policy but had no flexibility to try to keep a new client. If you're used to seasoned, professional stylists that prioritize quality & service... this isn't it. I didn't have a great experience. My hair was clean when I left, so that's a plus, but Lehem, the stylist I was matched with (had availability) did not do a good job. I got the works..as she was flat ironing my hair, I noticed the ends weren't smooth, so I asked her to go back over them. When I got home, my roots were rooting, so I had to knock them out with my iron. 24 hours later, my hair was stiff and crunchy. I've been waiting to try this salon for years and will not be going back. My confidence in going back and leaving happy is non existent. I gave 1 extra star for Lehem's personality. She's friendly. I absolutely love this salon. Everyone that I've interacted with has been kind and professional. I've seen Nina twice and she does a great job of educating you about your hair and provides tips and recommendations of hair products and styling techniques. My first visit is what made me want to come back. I've been natural since 2005 and got off track with my hair care and had some breakage issues. During my first salon visit, Nina helped me to understand the importance of regular trims and washing my hair weekly as this helps with hydration. We also discussed flat ironing my hair. I was nervous since I heard so many horror stories of naturals getting their curls burned during the straightening process. Plus, I've never straightened my hair before since going natural in 2005. She started my hair immediately and took care of me the entire time (no multitasking between me and 50-11 other clients). Salem was very knowledge about natural hair, and even told me everything she was doing regarding the treatment of my hair. She did everything gently and with care, and I didn't leave feeling like my hair was heat damaged or over processed from the blowout. I will definitely return! If you have healthy hair and looking for color and don't want a big chop please reconsider. I wish someone would have warned me or I really checked Yelp. I scheduled with Liyou and wanted to go lighter (cool blonde). I knew that given my darker hair it would take some time and patience and was ok with that. My hair was the healthiest it's ever been down to my hip and thick. I have naturally curly hair and I've dyed it in the past but wanted to find a legit salon that would match the color I really wanted. I checked IG and fb and felt comfortable with making an appt. I figured if it is a quality salon and I'll get my results I don't mind the higher pricing. I spent $1200 (not including tip) so $600 for each appt. My 1st appt to start the process I was bleached almost like highlights and also a color correction was done. I didn't realize I was getting so much stuff done in one sitting. My hair was a bit dry and thin after so Liyou recommended I give it more time for next visit and that the color (warm brown with lighter highlights) I had would eventually switch to the color I want with more sessions. I was being patient and really put my confidence in the process. I waited some time and did a second session we did another color correction and she dyed my roots to cover the grays. During wash she seemed concerned and was saying she was scared to do anything further until a few months and that this was a process. After that wash my hair seemed super thin and after a few days and into the next week after I washed at home my hair completely changed and fell out to the point i had 3 inches of hair on my right side and thinned out.. My hair is now a weird brown color I never asked for just about shoulder length and damaged to the point I dont even know what to do with it. Its in that awkward phase of growth and my roots are thick and curly while the colored hair is thin and damaged. I've been chopping it down slowly as it grows back out. I'm so upset and literally spent $1200 to damage my hair that will take another year or more to get back healthy all new growth. I considered reaching out but at this point there is nothing that can be done my hair color is wrong and there's nothing I can do but grow it out and hope I can salvage/retain my length during the process. I doubt the salon will consider reimbursing me and honestly money doesn't help because the damage is already done. I have been trying to get an appointment at this salon for months. About a month ago the webpage page reads that 2 stylists were finally taking appointments and their instagram reads 3 stylists are taking appointments. , So I called to book an appointment. I was told that the stylist I was requesting was actually not taking people and the website and IG were wrong. I found this to be very odd considering for months the site (&IG) read that no new clients were being taken. I waited and monitored the site every day again and today the site read the stylist I was waiting for had openings for new clients. I called the salon to schedule and the receptionist who was very rude said that the stylist I was requesting wasn't taking clients and she just stopped today after taking clients for over a month. I shared with her that I had previously called and was told something different and there seem to be issues with their website. She said "I don't know who you spoke too or what to tell you." I found her nonchalant attitude to not only be rude but extreme unprofessional. The first time I left Aesthetics Salon, my Mom told me "I've never seen your hair look this good!" I've seen both Yene and Salem for my natural, color-treated hair for the past several months. Yene did my first major color (with the best caramel/blonde highlights that I'm still getting asked about!) and it still looks fresh and healthy. Best of all, my natural curl pattern is relatively unchanged - even with straightening it twice monthly. The salon itself is immaculate and feminine, with a selection of snacks and beverages (and the BEST playlists, too). I love going on weeknights after work because Yene and Salem, along with the other clients, make you feel relaxed and at home. I have been a client at this salon for a little under a year now but have had the best experience from the start. First, everyone I have ever interacted with has been extremely professional, welcoming, and warm. I have visited many salons before where I would have to set aside essentially a whole day because I was guaranteed to be there for hours regardless of what I was getting done. This is absolutely NOT the case at Aesthetics. It doesn't seem like the stylists double book and you really feel like they're focusing on you during the time that you're there, which shows a real respect for you and your time. I also wear a hijab and really appreciate how accommodating they always are to ensure that I am comfortable and they have even gone so far as to offer a private area for me to get my hair done. That has always been something that I've had to seek out and advocate for myself about, so that was such a pleasant surprise. The only two stylists I have worked with have been Doja and Frey and they are total pros and I had such great experiences. I've also observed so many other stylists at work and am blown away by their overall talent and skill. I really feel that when I get in there I can just communicate what I want then relax and let them take over. I look forward to remaining a client for as long as they'll have me! read more

So sad to say I can't recommend this salon, particularly if you have natural hair. I had high hopes, but this appointment was definitely not what I expected. First, one of the other stylists was not masked for the first 15 minutes or so after I walked in, although the salon states that masks are mandatory. When I eventually mentioned it to someone, she did put on a mask. Once the appointment began, there was no attempt to communicate what was being done. Even when I did ask what processes we were doing, the stylist was very reluctant to answer or tell me any of the products she was using in my hair. I'd also come after work, so was wearing a nice silk top. I was not offered a smock, so water dripped all over my top until I asked for a towel. There is not a secure area for handbags, so I just held onto mine. I'd been excited to come to a salon that could do natural hair, but I was told that they weren't able to style natural hair to where I could leave with my curly hair. They only offered a braid out or a twist out, and I'd have to leave in the braids or twists. They also told me that they could not trim natural hair without using heat. I hadn't used heat in my hair in years and had mentioned that when booking the appointment. I hadn't been informed of these constraints previously and didn't have a hat or anything, so I was forced to straighten my hair for the first time in years. After the stylist blew out my hair, she stated she would also have to iron my hair as she was unable to style it with just the blow dryer. (I've had previous stylists many years ago use the blow dryer to straighten and give a light curl to avoid the high heat, but this salon apparently doesn't offer blowouts.) I requested just a light iron, since I'm not a fan of heat, with just a slight curl at the end. The stylist looked confused and said she'd just give me their classic look, disregarding both of my requests. As a fast forward, their "classic" look, sort of Goldilocks curls all over, did not look good on me. The stylist was very rough with my hair to say the least. (And I'd detangled my hair the day before, so there shouldn't have been a need to be so rough. ... Plus, even if I hadn't detangled it, can't imagine that a hair appointment should be expected to be painful.) It was so rough and painful at times that I was reminded of sitting with my mother at the stove as a child, but definitely didn't expect to pay for that kind of treatment as an adult. At one point, the stylist even told me to stop moving and when I pointed out that she was hurting me, it didn't seem to assuage the situation much. Unfortunately, once you're in the chair, you're sort of stuck unless you're willing to leave with your hair wet and as is. After about 2 weeks, the burned hair smell finally receded. Suffice to say, this was an immensely unpleasant experience, and I don't expect to return. The value of this appointment definitely did not match the price point, nor my expectations. I found this salon after reading an article way back when on the owner and Michelle Obama. Once I moved to the DMV area I knew I wanted to try this salon. Many other salons I visited couldn't do curly cuts or wanted to straighten my hair to cut it. I went here to get a blowout and chat with the stylist. I had a great conversation on curly versus straight hair cuts and she used the minimum amount of heat possible which was great. Just went to Aesthetics Salon for the first time this weekend. When I tell you the vibes were impeccable... *chef's kiss* I arrived a few minutes early and they were ready to receive me immediately. This was my first time getting my hair done in 5 years, so I was admittedly anxious. Yene took her time and explained every step of the process. I have very thick armpit length hair, so I was nervous to get a roller set because I hate sitting under the dryer. I was pleasantly surprised by how short it was! She specializes in color however all of the ladies are amazing... she got me all the way together. Her trim and style are amazing. Yene (the owner) is so dope. Very straight forward and you can tell she really cares about her clients and her business. She wants to make sure you get the look you're going for, but is also wants to make sure you don't damage your hair if you're getting a process done. The salon is cozy, and very warm and inviting... it may be tricky to get in appointment due to the fact their so amazing! read more
