Pad Thai-meh

Came back to try their other dishes. I ordered thru toast and order was ready for me at the pick up time. When I came there were large table for family dining filled with people. Tea leaf salad: still a solid 5 stars. Pad Thai: 2 stars. Good proteins. Pasta tastes over cooked and flavors weren't there. There is some spiciness to it which I didn't like. Maybe the sauce was spicy and when I ordered it non spicy they didn't put much which left the flavors none of existent. Squid and shrimp were excellent otherwise. Nasi goreng fried rice: 4 stars. interesting flavors. I kinda like the chucks of potatoes that was in it. There were a decent amount of protein toppings. Kang kung balachan: 3 stars well cooked with wok flavor. However missing a pop of savory umami that would be expected from shrimp paste.

I am surprised we've been sleeping on this great Malaysian restaurant for so long. We drop by this plaza fairly frequently since the aquatic center is just down the street. We decided to check this place out to try something different. The auntie who seated us was super nice, and was very helpful in making recommendations for vegetarian items. She kept checking on us throughout the meal as well which was very sweet. Comfortable seats with a great view of the kitchen, you get to see them prepare the food in front of you! We got the fried rice, pad thai, and the fried eggplant. The wok dishes all had plenty of wok hei flavor, and were all seasoned perfectly. We could not stop chowing down on the fried rice. Pad thai noodles were also perfectly al dented rather than mush that you get at some other places. The only thing that was not as great was the eggplant. While it was very crispy without being too greasy, it was underseasoned. The dipping sauce it came with helped, but it was not quite enough. Even with this I would highly recommend this place. The great service and the delicious fried rice and pad thai are worth the trip on their own.

A hidden gem for Southeast Asian food in the Bay Area! A casual authentic Malaysian and Burmese cuisine for years, Mingala is a must-visit. Bak Kut Teh: A herbal broth rich with pork belly, pork ribs, mushrooms and tofu. It's a comforting dish, perfect on cooler days. Huat Dan Ho: Creamy egg sauce over your choice of thick horfun or thin vermicelli noodles, simply comforting, one of my favorites and it's hard to find this in the Bay! Ha Mee: A vibrant shrimp noodle soup that hits all the right notes. The shrimp taste is so pronounced and rich. Another favorite! Chow Kuey Teow: A classic, wok stir-fried with flat rice noodles, with wok hey (wok taste) and packed with flavors. Curry Seafood Clay Pot: A hearty pot filled with fresh seafood and aromatic red curry. Each dish brings a taste of Southeast Asia right to your table. And if it's extra kick you're after, don't forget to ask for their homemade sambal.

Stumbled upon this restaurant while walking since we were looking for a spot for lunch with my family. I was excited to try their food because I love Burmese food, and also realized that they also serve Malaysian food. It's quite spacious inside and wasn't extremely busy given that it was lunchtime. We were seated in one of the booths and it was very comfortable. It was great that one of the menus showed pictures of the food. We ordered a variety of dishes and they were all spectacular. Our favorite was the Salt and Pepper Fish Fillet since it was crispy and flavorful, especially paired with the sauce. We also enjoyed the Paratha, Curry Laksa Mee and Curry Seafood Claypot. Each dish tasted authentic, except for the Hainan Chicken. I would not recommend that since the chicken was bland and the sauces didn't help either. Would definitely recommend this spot to those who enjoy Southeast Asian cuisine. The servers were also very friendly and kept coming to our table to refill our waters. Also love that there's plenty of parking available since it's located in a plaza.

Authentic SEA food, staff (auntie) very sweet, recommended me to switch from Tom yum meehon to Prawn noodle soup bc she thinks I will like it more and I did! I can see/taste the "wok-hey" when the dishes come out. Love every bite, come try and you won't regret!

I'd thought I'd lost this place, but they just moved from Warm Springs to Newark. It had been so long I forgot what I ordered previously, so this time I got a dish with coconut rice, peanut marinated chicken, peanuts, veg, and pickle. The coconut rice was rich but not too sweet, while the richness of the chicken marinade balanced out the tang of the pickle. The veg were raw and a bit dried out so I skipped those. I also grabbed a Malaysian iced coffee, which was similar to classic Vietnamese coffee with strong brew balanced out by sweetened condensed milk. Sounds like you can customize the sweetness - I said "sweet" and it hit the spot. Logistics - indoor seating only - plenty of strip mall parking outside

2nd visit & was dissapointed. Chow kuey teow was horrible: bland & the noodle were all broken up; hainan chicken was more dry than last visit; roti was not fluffy & was more like made from frozen scallion pancake; Kaffir lime soup was ok, beef rendang was the saving grace.

Chicken murtabak

Huge fan of Malaysian food, was excited to try this spot! Very cozy restaurant and it seemed like there were a lot of regulars here. Tried the chicken murtabak, gado gado, and char kway teow with beef. I think the chicken murtabak, which was a green onion pancake with chicken curry inside, was my favorite dish. Pancake was crispy and the chicken was super flavorful. The gado gado sauce was a bit sweet for my liking and could have had a bit of a stronger peanut taste, but was quite good nonetheless and the fried veggie fritters were an enjoyable addition!

This restaurant is THE only one out of the entire east bay region that made it to the SF Chronicle Top restaurant list recently. Worth checking out if you haven't been here before. Fantastic authentic Malaysian food. Been one of my go to restaurant all these years when I crave for Ying Yong Huat Dan Ho or Hokkien mee noodles. They have one of the best Ying yong with the crispy noodle and gravy over it which you need to try. Exactly how it's done in Malaysia. I also love their main entrees, along with other appetizers such as roti canai (prata) and gado gado. Fast service and very friendly owner who takes time to introduce dishes to diners new to the southeast Asian cuisine.

A late lunch with bestie after our shopping around this area. We only had 30 minutes left before this place is closed for lunchtime. We ordered food to share: Singapore behoon, balacan kangkung, and a bowl of steamed rice. The foods were surprisingly good! The service was good too. The place has a casual vibe. We'll be back

Been here a couple times. All noodles and soups are stand out. Curries are good too, even the seafood ones and I typically don't love seafood curry. Noodles have good heat, soups and curries and rich and flavorful. Noodles have good bite and some dishes come with good lemon and chili sauces. Can be a bit salty but good management, fast service and food.

I visited Mingala with a group of friends, and we got to sample a wide variety of dishes from their menu. We tried the roti pratha with curry sauce, hokkien mee, rendang, belachan kangkung, salt & pepper fish fillets, café baby short ribs, and their coconut rice. Among everything we ordered, the café baby short ribs and the salt & pepper fish fillets stood out as clear favorites. The short ribs were incredible--the marinade, made with ground coffee, added a subtle bitterness that perfectly balanced the sweetness of the glaze. It's a unique flavor combination, and I can't think of another spot in the Bay offering anything quite like it. The salt & pepper fish fillets were also outstanding. While this dish isn't hard to find in the Bay Area, Mingala's version is one of the best I've had. The batter was light, thin, and perfectly crispy, with just the right amount of seasoning. It was a crowd favorite at our table--despite being one of the last dishes to arrive, it was the first to be polished off. The only (minor) criticism I had on the food was that the curries felt like they could've been more intense in their flavors. For example, I thought the beef rendang could have been reduced a bit more so the coconut flavors were more prominent. The dish itself was otherwise well made -- the beef was fall-apart tender. If you're craving traditional Malaysian and Burmese cuisine, Mingala is the place to go. The food is excellent, and I'd gladly come back to try more of their menu.

Been to Mingala a couple times now and it never disappoints. Swung by recently for the huat dan ho, honestly, one of the best I've had. The wok hei was on point, and the portion size was just right. Always hits the spot when I'm craving Malaysian food close by. Definitely a go-to in the area!

We parked in a tight space and opened the door to a full waiting area. It was about 5:30 PM. Yelp said to get ready to be seated. Someone that was after us was seated first so I went to the waiter to ask about it. He immediately sat us at a table. We ordered a lot: lobster roll, crab cake, clam chowder, the bag of shrimp, crab legs, and clams (i think?) with the spiciest sauce. Clam chowder: worth ordering. Id order this again. It exceeded my expectations. I might even say it was good or even slightly better than ones found at santa cruzs pier. Crab cake: pass on it. It was nicely cooked. Moist in the inside and crunchy on the outside. The crab blend wasnt my cup of tea. Lobster roll: get if you love lobster hoagie bun - yum! Lobster filling was missing some flavors. It tasted like lobster and hoagie bun. I wanted more of a creamy mixture. The bag: there was a LOT. Expensive at $78. Very spicy! So get it if you like spice. We did. I cant say to get it or not to get it. Loved that we were given bibs. Loved our waitress who checked on us. It is a family business. Would come back if craving for clam chowder. I would get everything else somewhere else and eat the seafood in the bag only if i had mad cravings and didnt want to drive farther.

The grilled asparagus was a $4 up-charge and you only get 3 spears of asparagus. With the up-charged, my dish, the price was over $46. Lobster Roll - 5/5 The Lobster Roll was very delicious. You get some Lobster tail, but Lobster claw meat is more prominent (see pic). Still the spices along with the clarified butter made this roll very tasty and delicious. The Pricing Confusion: We placed our order at 5:05 PM, and the server initially took it. However, a few minutes later, they came back to explain it wasn't actually a happy hour deal, but a lunch special. This was frustrating since we had called to confirm and had already ordered. While our other food arrived earlier, we waited over an hour for the shrimp. We watched five separate tables who arrived after us get served their shrimp first. Even though we told the staff a couple of times that our shrimp hadn't arrived yet, we were still left waiting. The shrimp didn't finally arrive until 6-6:10pm. They eventually explained they thought we had already been served and suspected our order had accidentally been packed into a to-go order. The food itself was actually delicious, the shrimp and garlic noodles were very flavorful. I don't even have a photo of the shrimp because by the time it finally arrived, we were so hungry we just started eating! To their credit, once they realized the error, they slashed the price of the 1lb shrimp and gave us free rice to make it right The food is great, but the kitchen organization was a mess during our visit. Management was honest and tried to fix the mistake, but waiting an hour for the main part of your meal while watching five other tables eat is a major headache.
