The food here is insanely good. What a little gem. We got the tea leaf salad (thanks internet) and it was huge and soo tasty with tons of nuts and a dressing that was light ans flavorful. You could easily get this as an entree and be full. We also got the shan curry to split and the chicken was soooo tender and full of juicy goodness. I got some sauce on my white collared shirt and they immediately ordered club soda! What incredible hospitality! The drinks are also so so good - well balanced and tasty. I'd always heard great things about the Burma restaurants, starting with Burma Superstar in San Francisco many years ago. I have to say it was only just ok. I wasn't a huge fan of the atmosphere. The space felt dark, the table placement tight, and the music selection odd. A very unexpected issue I had was with the water glass and the flatware. It seems so utterly ridiculous to have to mention, but being challenged by things that I don't think should be top of mind takes one out of the dining experience. The water glass was wide and very heavy for small hands. The flatware was also very heavy and had round handles that put some sort of weird pressure on my finger bones that there was actually physical pain in using. I ended up using one of the serving utensils that came with the dishes. If I were to return, I'd have to ask for alternate flatware. The food was decent but not spectacular. We started with the Roti and chose the Coconut Chicken Curry as the seemingly requisite add on--just ok. For mains, we ordered the B.F.C. and the Hawker Garlic Noodles with shrimp. The B.F.C. was more sweet than heat, but I liked the ratio of crusty coating to chicken. The noodles--fine, a nice addition to the plate. I really wasn't expecting to be handed a dessert menu once the dishes were cleared. That was a pleasant surprise and the sticky toffee pudding with vanilla ice cream was calling my name. My Aunt & I chose to celebrate our birthdays jointly in Menlo Park's Burma Love. I've previously dined in BL's two other locations in San Francisco's Financial and Mission District and upon settling at our table, I became immediately drawn to its more spacious dining area and modern interior by comparison. The service was very efficient in taking our orders and the hostess was very hospitable by lowering the window blind just for us and by regularly checking-in. I commend BL for serving three samosas for our party of three because normally, a samosa appetizer only consists of two. The samosas & tea leaf salad had a crispy texture. In addition to the sweet-flavored coconut rice and earthy brown rice, the roti bread also complimented the lamb curry. The chicken and beef chili entrees were mild spicy and tangy. My Burmese Butterfly mocktail was a refreshing beverage to start the meal and the iced-milk tea later complimented my toffee cake dessert well. Consistently Great Food and Ambiance in Menlo Park I can't believe I haven't written a review sooner--we have been here several times now for both small family dinners and larger group gatherings, and it is a consistent favorite of ours. While the portion sizes are on the smaller side for the price point, the overall dining experience makes it well worth it on occasion. The restaurant has a beautiful, upscale yet bright and reasonably kid-friendly indoor ambiance. Booking online is seamless, and parking is incredibly easy right underground in the Springline lot. The cocktails are good, and you absolutely cannot go wrong with the tea leaf salad, the roti pratha with coconut chicken curry, and the garlic chili prawns. The garlic noodles and fried rice can be a bit hit-or-miss; we have had visits where they are packed with flavor, have a perfect texture, and are a massive hit with the kids, but other times they have turned up a bit bland or with mushy noodles. The manager and staff are friendly and welcoming, and the manager has gone out of their way to accommodate our walk-in group on at least two occasions. My biggest tip is to avoid booking the outdoor seating. It consists of only one or two tables situated right on El Camino Real, making it way too noisy to enjoy your meal. My first time really trying Burmese food and I had a wonderful experience here! The place is decorated in an upscale, tasteful, and groovy ambience. We came for lunch on a weekday with a reservation - I'd highly recommend making this ahead of time, otherwise, only bar seating was available. Tea leaf salad (4/5) - I liked the taste of this one but do wish there were a few more greens. But it's fresh, nutty, and savory. Roti platah (5/5) - I love love love roti, and this was fluffy, buttery, and delicious. Something we didn't know, however, was the dip (we got truffle) was $7 extra! Coconut chicken curry (4/5) - this was good, but definitely on the heavy side when it comes to curries. Mango chicken (5/5) - a must try, and the star of the show for me. This dish was on the sweeter side, but tasted SO good and tropical when paired with the coconut rice (a MUST try). I'd be back for the mango chicken and the coconut rice for sure! My favorite was the Roti Platha ($10) and an extra charge for the chicken curry dipping sauce and the Rainbow Spring Roll ($14) The Chilean Seabass (Inle Fisherman - $36) was a little lacking in flavor. We could have skipped the Garlic Noodles ($23), which tasted a bit funny - a bit sweet? Came to Burma Love and enjoyed the meal. Of course we started with some cocktails and of course we went with the holiday specials. Both were good, but the Butter Moon was definitely better than the Emerald Heart. For an appetizer we decided to go with the Roti Platha. Personally, I thought the curry was too salty and a bit heavy on the spices. Personal preference, I like my chicken curry dips to be a little more coconut forward. For mains, we shared the Mohinga and the Pork Belly. Both of these were really tasty! The Mohinga had a good amount of noodles and I really enjoyed the play on textures and flavors everywhere. The pork belly was also unctuous and super tasty but the coconut rice was really overcooked unfortunately. It was basically mush. Overall, our meal was super tasty. Roti 5/5: fresh, crispy, although oily. we chose the coconut chicken curry as the side which was a solid choice. It came with small chicken chunks which was a plus! Coconut chicken curry 4.5/5: the curry was so creamy and tasty! It had a slight refreshing lemongrass taste, with plenty of chicken pieces. Mohinga 4/5: this meal was definitely a generous portion size! The fish filets were well fried but remained soft on the inside, it was a bit bland though. The soup itself was very flavorful with a decent kick of spice. There were plentiful rice noodles in the dish! I haven't tried this restaurant yet, but so far I have received very good service from this place. I found out about it through their website when I was looking at it to find out more about where I could get their tea leaf salad dressing. I was hoping to get the traditional and spicy version of their sauce because I have only found the vegan version in stores. When I arrived though, they only had the packaged vegan version on hand, so they offered to hand-pack the traditional dressing they had at the restaurant to make a kit for me. I put in an order for the spicy version, and I decided to take their hand-packed traditional version to go. If you come here to buy their Tea Leaf Salad Dressing Kit, this is the advice that they gave me: call ahead to see what they have available, and if they don't have any, place a request, and it should arrive by the following Friday. The sauce at the restaurant is cheaper than what grocery stores that carry the product charge, so it's definitely worth the detour. The ambiance is upscale, and I look forward to trying the food that the restaurant prepares at a future date. read more

We had the Valentine's Day Special that came with a 4-course meal for $125 - this included a tasty salad, two appetizers of your choice (we got oysters and samosas), two main entrees (we got duck curry and sea bass), and a chocolate mousse dessert. This was a great value and every dish was a 10/10; we even got a free rose and the recipe for their salad at the end of the meal. We came here to celebrate a friend's birthday. The decor is quite pleasant and the tables are not packed in, which is very nice. The hosts and servers are very, very friendly and welcoming. The food was excellent! It was a tad pricey I would say but perhaps that's because of the location. We tried the tea leaf salad - yum! Maybe could have had a little more lemon juice but was really very good. The samosas were good - reminded me more of the Indian style of samosas rather than the kind I have had at other Burmese places. The beef kebab and dry fried green beans were soooooo good I wanted to lick the serving dishes. My kids took me here for my bday celebration and first of all - the staff was SO NICE and friendly. I believe it was the manager that came by to wish me a happy birthday! Chunks that were meaty and flavorful - didn't fall apart - still had the bite AND the flavors! Amazing and perfect for eggplant lovers... And because it was my bday - i got a complimentary chocolate cake with a candle. That cake was SO tender and chocolately - it was very good and just the right amount for us all to take a bite BECAUSE we still ordered the coconut pandan cake! HIGHLY recommend. Came for a quick lunch and was wildly underwhelmed. We ordered the friend chicken and garlic noodles with shrimp to share. The food was tasty, except for the fact that the noodles came with chicken instead of shrimp. This leads me to what made the experience meh. We sat at the bar and the bartender could not have been bothered. They barely greeted us, when we opted for regular water he brought the glasses but didn't give us water until we asked once our food arrived, and when the noodles came with chicken instead of shrimp, I confirmed that I had ordered shrimp to which he said, "oh yea, I guess I out chicken" and he just stared at me. At that point I just left it as is and ate the food that was out in front of me. We asked for the check and again, just no sense of urgency or hospitality. I have been to quite a few Burmese restaurants in San Francisco and was really surprised to see one closer to the South Bay! I happened to stumble upon it with my friend and remembered loving the one in San Francisco so we decided to give this location a shot as well. The inside of the restaurant was very welcoming and clean. We had arrived around brunch time and found out that they only had the brunch menu at this location, which was really neat. We were immediately seated. The staff were super friendly and attentive. We ended up ordering the Shakshuka, B.F.C Palaffle, Laphet Tea Lead Salad and iced Burmese milk tea. Service was quick to get our orders in. We all got the laphet tea leaf salad to share with all of us. The 3 of us got the bfc, coconut chicken curry with a side of coconut rice, and garlic noodles with beef. Everything was DELICIOUS, everything had great flavor and my husband and I thoroughly enjoyed it. We also ordered dessert at the end and split it amongst 5 people. When I think back to the my first time trying Burma Superstar, it's ridiculously impressive how far they've come. From their singular, original location on Clement Street in SF, through various iterations of offshoots and expansions, their family tree of restaurants has now grown into the double digits under a growing number of names. Now, after spreading across the entirety of SF, as well as into the East Bay, it's awesome to see that they're now expanding their footprint towards the South Bay! Compared to the homely decor and cozy vibes of the original Burma Superstar, the newest Burma Love is adorned with a far trendier concept that's even fitted with a fully stocked bar. Thankfully, though, they're still mostly the same where it matters the most - the menu. Having already taken a peek at it online before coming here, we weren't surprised to see that the lineup of the lunch menu is slightly different and narrower than the dinner menu. However, there was still plenty for us to choose from and most of their dishes appear on both, including staples like their Tea Leaf Salad, Mohinga, Samosa Soup, and the Burmese Fried Chicken friends had recommended to me! -- THE LITCHI EXPRESS - Hangar One Rose Vodka, St. Germaine, Lemon Juice, Aquafaba, Lychee-Dragonfruit & Rosewater Syrup, Lychee Fruit, Rose Crystals...$18 I don't usually go for martinis, but this one was pretty tasty. The overall flavors were pretty balanced - the pour of vodka in this was just right, the lychee was central but not overly intense, and I liked how the lemon juice added just a bit of acidity to cut through everything. -- FIERY MANGO - Thai Chili Infused Tequila Blanco, Mango Cordial, Cointreau and Lime Finished with a Tajin Rim...$17 Much like the first time I ever tried a mangonada, this initially seemed just okay, but it grew on me as I kept going. While the flavors in the soup were the same (rich and hearty), serving most of the components separately made a huge difference, as they all stayed fresher and didn't get soggy. -- SHAN CURRY NOODLES - Rice Noodles, Chicken Tomato Curry, Soft-Boiled Pasture Egg, Ground Peanuts, Pickled Mustard Greens, Sweet Soy, and Chili Crunch...$25 Honestly, I was a little skeptical of this one, but this actually wasn't bad. The chicken was very moist and the sauce had a nice punch, albeit a little heavy on tomato. As for the noodles, there was a good amount of it, but I wish it had more of a chewy bite to it. -- B.F.C. - Burmese Fried Chicken, Sesame Seeds, Sweet Heat...$26 My friend felt like this was a bit Americanized, but I'm not going to lie - I thought this was great! The chicken was still slightly crispy despite the sauce on it and I liked how there was just a touch of heat. Plus, the portion was HUGE! In fact, it was so generous, we couldn't even get close to finish this. -- CHILI-GARLIC PRAWNS - Onions, Arbol Chili, Jalapenos, Thai Basil, Koji Rice, Garlic Chips...$27 While there wasn't anything "bad" about this dish, it was easily my least favorite dish of our meal. The prawns were all plump and meaty, and I liked the garlic chips, but the sauce was underwhelming (not much chili flavor or spice). In addition to the food, service here was pretty spot on, as well. The servers were friendly and responsive, checking on us often to refill our waters and to see if we needed anything. Plus, one of them even paused to make sure we got any photos we wanted of the Tea Leaf Salad before he started to mix it. Besides how awesome it is to see Burma Superstar's success lead to another outpost in their family of restaurants, the other thing I like about this particular Burma Love is their Set Lunch Menu. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful, we were given the menu, water and after giving us time to choose, we ordered for our drinks and appetizers, we had shrimps and tea leaves salad. We ordered lichee Express and Cobra cocktail. We ordered main course, garlic noodles with beef, coconut chicken curry, fried rice and another shrimp dish. So this review is a little different than the usual "dining at the restaurant and having a fabulous time" but it's close but better, shows how professionally and with care and detail outside the restaurant too! Back story, I was put as an events chair at our school this year and I was responsible for an annual family dance (adults with children ages ranging from 4-13) at our school. I wanted to elevate the food for the parents, hopefully open culinary pallets of our younger guests, and Burma Love by its namesake fit our "Groove is in the Heart" and all things love, peace and good vibes theme! So I reached out with a call and was connected to the GM of the establishment...meeting Nur made me feel I was in good hands instantly! Gracious, kind, reassuring, helpful, open and so easy to work with! Ooooh and did I mention also quite generous and patient!? Well those too. Long story short, my God did they deliver to our event literally and figuratively. The food was exceptional, the chef understanding and worked with some of my requests because of the unique crowd. They truly went out of their way to work with my budget, everything like everyyyyyything tasted so good, sometimes things miss the mark because of bulk but not here. So much taste, flavor, freshness, and LOVE in every tray. So, please do consider them for your catering events, big parties in your home, your next school social! Had lunch here with a coworker and really enjoyed the food. We ordered a few dishes to share family style so we could try more things, and everything was delicious. The platha was perfectly flaky and absolutely amazing dipped into the coconut chicken curry. Definitely a highlight. We also shared the garlic noodles, which were cooked just right with a great garlic flavor that was noticeable but not overpowering. Mother's Day 11:30 reservation seated right away. First time in, the decor is fabulous, very tastefully done, beautiful. I came here for a Work Holiday Lunch and while I've had Burmese food before I was a little optimistic. Walking inside I was blown away by how beautiful the restaurant is, the decor is just breathtaking. The restaurant is small but packs a punch and they can definitely fit quite a lot of people in there. The staff here is very friendly and professional, they quickly greet you as soon as you walk in, make sure to get you a table in a timely manner and almost immediately a server was there to bring water and take our drink orders. Top notch customer service! The menu wasn't too big but there were a nice variety of items to choose from. Since there were about 7-8 of us we decided to order a bunch of appetizers and small plates to start. We ordered the Laphet Tea Leaf Salad, Roti Platha, Rainbow Spring Roll, Crispy Calamari, Potato Samusas, Dry Fried String Beans and Jasmine Rice. All of this alone could have been the whole meal. My favorites were the potato samusas which were so good. They were cooked nicely, crispy on the outside and the curry potato and veggie filling was so full of flavor. The dry fried strings beans were perfect, they had a nice crisp to them and had a ton of garlic flavor. I also enjoyed the roti platha, the roti was nice and chewy and the curry went perfectly with it. For my main course I went with the Bone-In Short Rib Curry. This came with roasted leeks, fingerling potatoes, cipollini onions and thumbelina carrot. The presentation for this short rib was amazing, it was served alongside the bone. The meat was divine, it was melt in your mouth tender. I have never had short rib that was that tender and full of flavor. The curry was different, definitely not what I expected but it was good and had a nice flavor and went very well with the short rib and the vegetables that accompanied it. This is something that I would definitely order again!! The portion size didn't look too big but it actually was a lot of meat and I still had a lot left over to take home. Overall, this is a wonderful restaurant. Everything from the customer service to the food was amazing, I have no complaints. I will definitely be back! read more
