The Dutch Goose is one of my favorite spots in Menlo Park to grab a beer and some food. The food is consistently solid -- the wings are great, the burger is reliable and satisfying, and the onion rings are a standout. Everyone raves about the deviled eggs (I'm not a deviled egg person myself, but they're clearly a crowd favorite). The beer selection is always strong, and pitchers are available, which is a big plus. The outdoor seating is excellent -- both the front area and the back patio, though I prefer the back. Tons of heaters, lots of TVs, and it's a great place to watch a game. The bar itself has a dusty, old-school vibe with a lot of character, which really adds to the charm. Prices are standard for Menlo Park -- meaning high, but pretty much what you expect for the area. Service is okay overall. I feel like this place has been here for years. I walked in not really knowing what to expect and immediately got hit with full-on sports bar vibes. Trophies, little league decor on the walls, arcade games, a pool table, its very nostalgic. There's also a nice outdoor patio if you want fresh air. They've got plenty of beers on tap, plus cocktails and wine. You order at the counter, and there's basically an assembly line of cooks pumping out food. They hand you one of those buzzer things that goes off when your order's ready. Wait time wasn't bad at all. We ordered a 9-inch pizza, a burger, chicken tenders, and a French dip. The food was solid, but nothing crazy. The pizza came out nuclear hot, almost burnt myself haha. The burger was pretty plain. The tenders were decent. The French dip was probably the standout, actually pretty fire. Overall, the food is fine, not bad, just kind of mid. This place is more about the vibe than the cuisine. It's basically an overhyped sports bar with classic bar food. But also a Menlo Park staple to kick back and have a few drinks. read more

Honestly- this place is mediocre at best. '"At the Dutch Goose, there are no strangers, only friends you haven't met,' said Greg Stern, who has owned the Goose since October 2005 and helped it weather a challenging two decades. Service isn't very friendly, the inside area needs some updating and renovations, the outside area is nice but was completely overtaken by a private party while we were there on a sunny afternoon. Kind of annoying because they could have consolidated the area so other patrons could enjoy it. Felt like we were being annoying by ordering food and making them work, lol. Not very customer service oriented or helpful. The Alpine Inn has a much better ambiance and nice staff! And a better menu in my opinion too. After work, my boyfriend and I were looking for a relaxed evening spot and decided on The Dutch Goose. It was my first time, but he's been before. I can definitely see the appeal for young adults. They've got arcade games, claw machines, and even a pool table. Apparently, they're known for their deviled eggs, but they also serve burgers and pizza. We grabbed a couple of beers on tap from the downstairs bar (the place has a separate bar area downstairs, which is cool). We split a small, four-slice pizza for $10. It was a great, chill place, and we totally lost track of time. Lots of booths for seating, and the decor has a cool, old-timey vibe. I've been coming here for 30 years. Ordered bbq sliders as they were well reviewed. My experience was the opposite. I ordered to go--sliders had NO bbq sauce and were so full of fat that 3 little sandwiches became 1 1/2. Extremely disappointed. The fries were cold and limp. This was a really terrible experience. On the other hand, The deviled eggs were awesome. As per usual. However, you guys don't need to give me 15 packs of saltines. This was my first time eating here, and honestly, the place is not that good. The burger was just okay--I'd give it a 7/10. It was cooked well, had a big portion size, and the price was alright, though I felt like it could've been a little cheaper. The fries were not good at all. They're trying to be McDonald's-style fries in texture, but they completely miss the mark. They weren't warm, weren't crispy, and lacked flavor. I definitely wouldn't get the fries again. The star of the show was the buffalo wings. Price-wise, they were pretty solid for about 8-10 wings. They were crispy, the sauce was flavorful and coated the wings really well, and overall I'd give them a 9/10. Service was okay. The ambience feels like an old bar--definitely could use an update. I came here on a Thursday night in search of the delicious burgers I first tried about six years ago. Walking in, the establishment looked the same. Your wood-cabin American bar vibe with a pool table. We ordered Buffalo wings to share, and I got a bacon cheeseburger with fries. The place was packed with middle schoolers who looked like they had just come out of a soccer game. It was ridiculously loud; you could barely hear your own conversation. Bacon Cheeseburger: It was your typical burger with a good portion size. It comes with tomato, lettuce, onions, and their sauce they call "gooey." The patty was cooked well, and they added a lot of onions. It also came with some chips on the side. There are unlimited toppings (pico de gallo and pickles) by the register. Nothing special, nothing really stood out. I would rate it a 7/10. Fries: When I tried these fries a few years back, they were thick, fresh, and authentic. Now these fries are giving "unsalted McDonald's fries." They were thin and small and resembled fast-food fries, not what i expected. 4/10 Buffalo Wings: The Buffalo wings were the star of the show. They were big, nicely coated, and had good flavor. They weren't too spicy but had a little kick. If I were near the area, I would only come back for the wings. 10/10. Overall, I wasn't impressed and expected the same quality as before. The food wasn't spectacular, and it was soooo loud. There are other burger places that are better than Dutch Goose. read more

The spicy over-mayoed sludge is a delight, though it will not suit everyone's fancy. EXCELLENT beer food. Add (included) saltines liberally. It's decent pub food (certainly not the best), but at the right price point and with reasonable quantities especially for a location in the heart of Menlo Park. Think of this as a sports pub. If you like pub food in a sports environment, you'll appreciate Dutch Goose. In the years I've been coming here, I've come to appreciate their consistency. I like that you order at the counter and then choose your own seat, indoor or outdoor. I can see how this place gets incredibly crowded at times, so beware of that. I believe you can reserve a spot for large groups. In terms of food: * Decent selection of beers * Fried onion rings and fries were good - I've had better with lighter batter, but these were good * Burger was okay - I've definitely had better, but it served its purpose * Pastrami sandwich was a hit (according to my son) and really hit the spot for him - I had a bite the next day, and it was quite good (with that nicely oil-toasted bread) * Not sure what brought me to order a french dip at a place like this, but I enjoyed it I would come back again, and I can see how it would be a really fun place to watch a game with friends and other fans. read more

The menu is exhaustive, (I had a Patty Melt with fries) with something for everyone. They also have a great beer selection. Indoor booths and outdoor tables. They had areas in the back that look like they could be used for private gatherings and overflow diners. I understand there are a lot of folks for whom this wonderful diner is no secret. It wasn't busy when I had lunch (Monday early afternoon) and parking was plentiful. I'm certain this is not always the case. If you've never been, I recommend it whole-heartedly. IYKYK. Well if local. The Dutch Goose has been a Menlo Park institution since 1966. They never disappoint. But don't expect frills and fancy. This is a peanuts on the floor kinda place. You should always start with one of their super unique, delicious deviled eggs. Gooey, messy and like none you've tasted before. I've had their pizza which is always a staple. Burgers are great for those that eat meat. I don't, so the veggie or turkey burgers are my go too. They have an extensive menu with selections for everyone. There is plenty of indoor and outdoor seating with an outside bar (The Duck Blind) with seating for those 21 and older. I truly appreciate they keep the bar kids free. I wish more restaurants would do the same. Super casual. Great food. Service has always been great. You do order from a counter and they give you a buzzer when your food is ready. Dutch Goose had been around since 1966 (!!) and is one of the few peanuts-on-the-floor restaurants left in Silicon Valley. They attract a wide ranging mix of guests: students, families, techies, and VCs. Food-wise, they are famous for their spicy deviled eggs - an unusual recipe that's "goopier" than normal. Legend has it that Atari launched the first videos game, Pong, at The Goose. The food is classic pub fair. Nothing is great, nothing is bad. The cheeseburger is pretty good, the steak burger is disappointing. The grilled cheese is pretty good, the pastrami is (not surprisingly) disappointing. You'd think the salads would be disappointing but they are surprisingly solid. Prices are reasonable, despite being in Menlo. Oh, and the name? Ambiance is odd indoors, but luckily it was a lovely evening so we ate outdoors on a table that was slanted downhill. Can get crowded with people watching the game or if they are hosting an event. They have a convenient sign that tells you the estimated wait time at the cashier. Burgers come with chips. Had a late dinner here after attending a concert at the Stanford stadium. These guys do open later on a weekday in comparison to surrounding restaurants so that's a plus if you're looking for some late night eats. I don't know the in depth history of this restaurant but was told they have been around since the 1960's -- long before I was born. Not that long before, but long enough. Haha They're known for their burgers, brews , and their famous creamy deviled eggs which I did try by the way -- they were delicious. There were 5 of us and while everyone ordered something different -- my date and I ordered some cheeseburgers, fries, and deviled eggs to share. For a late night bite, everything hit the spot. They serve wine and beer also -- and have a small arcade, and pool table for entertainment. Would definitely return to support a neighborhood staple. Keep restaurants like these alive. The nostalgic ambiance and vibe is the selling point of this place for me! The food was good but nothing too special, but the portion sizes were larger than I expected which was appreciated (especially for the brisket caesar) and I really enjoyed the clam chowder soup of the day. Nothing exceptional to write home about but also nothing bad to note about. It was a cheeseburger and some fries, paid $15 for it. The staff weren't friendly or rude, they honestly just seemed tired. It's just greasy bar food with no attention to customer experience. The owner has been the subject of lawsuits regarding his establishment, you can look it up if you want. If you consider going here good luck with parking and be careful backing out onto busy Alameda. It's a very small place where you'll often rub against strangers just trying to walk around!!! It's like they don't have any interior designers in Menlo Park? FYI that last sentence was sarcasm (there's plenty of interior designers in MP).
