Bougatsa dessert with pistachio ice cream. Incredible!! And mint tea on the side
    Renata G.

Such great food! I loved dining here - all dishes tasted fresh and prepared well. Some things we enjoyed: Raw oysters with pink peppercorn sauce - delicious super fresh with a unique sauce 5/5 Grilled prawns (garides skaras) - suuuper good quality seafood, shishitos were a nice touch 5/5 Greek salad (horiatiki salata) - the tomatoes had a very thick skin and it wasn't balanced.. not enough cucumbers and too much cheese 4/5 French fries side - oil they were fried in wasn't the freshest but overall good taste 4/5 Grilled octopus (oktapodaki) - the best thing here! Perfectly tender paired with unique fava puree. Loved it 5/5 Bougatsa pastry - warm and not too sweet, just right 5/5 Mint tea - great! Berry Mocktail - loved it! I wasn't really hungry when I came here. But we cleared the plates because it was just so delicious. Also the service was very slow. Our dining experience was a little over 2 hours and we only ordered small plates, no mains. It worked in my favor to build up the appetite. This a slow dining experience, keep this in mind. I personally don't mind it if that expectation is there..I just enjoy the company, sit outdoors in fresh air, and have great food throughout the evening.. what's not to love.

This is the second location for Taverna, smaller than the Palo Alto location and with a similar but not identical menu. Taverna Palo Alto has always been enjoyable so we've been excited to try this location. On weekdays, it's easy to find a spot but on weekends you likely should park in the back. It's much smaller than the Palo Alto location with about 1/2 the tables inside and 1/2 outside. Inside is deafening loud when it's full so keep that in mind. On a recent visit, we ordered drinks and then about 10 mins later ordered multiple appetizers and entrees to share but asked them to space out the food. The bar was clearly backed up as the drinks arrived after the appetizers which came all at once. Luckily, we were in no hurry but we noticed other diners were agitated. Zucchini cakes: Light and enjoyable, maybe a little more of the yoghurt. Greek meatballs: One of their signature dishes. Enjoyable as always. Greek fries: Eat them while they are hot. Very nicely seasoned. Grilled cheese sandwich: We ordered on a whim and it's the only item we've had we didn't really enjoy. Mostly bland. Moussaka: Served in a metal dish here as opposed to the ceramic one in Palo Alto. One diner swears it tasted less opulent (different lamb to beef ratio?). Still, one of my favorite entrees. Octopus salad: A polarizing dish. Most loved the grilled octopus but some were put off by the sheer volume of frisee. Lamb chops: Holy difference, Batman! I don't know if the kitchen made a mistake but the chops were easily double the portion size in Palo Alto. And still delicious. Chocolate mousse: Visually a small portion but decadent so plenty for two. The hazelnut praline makes the dish. Mezcal Marg: Excellent drink seemingly named after Mexico City (CDMX). A little smoky but not too heavy handed with the alcohol. Paper Plane: Always a crowd pleaser drink. This one is a touch sweeter than I like it but still good. Smallish selection of wines by the glass but I can vouch for the Rhys Pinot even though it's priced high. Various Yelpers complain about the service. It's probably not as crisp as it should be but I found the servers VERY friendly and helpful, perhaps a bit overwhelmed. Taverna Portola Valley is a welcome addition and conveniently located right off of 280.

Spanakopita. They served it soggy, yet burned. Clearly not fresh.

First time going here to this Portola Valley restaurant. Avgolemono soup was served lukewarm, not hot. Spanakopita was clearly "leftovers". Was soggy yet burned. Unfortunately, won't return. Much better options out there.

Wonderful place for brunch! For me, the omelette from the brunch menu with mushrooms was the highlight. As always, the traditional dolma leaves and gyro were excellent. The place feels brand new and fresh. They've also recently started serving bubbles -- I enjoyed a sparkling wine from Roederer Estate. Pro tip -- ask your server about specials that aren't on the menu. We had a watermelon and feta salad as a starter, and it was refreshing and unforgettable, setting the tone for the meal.

Yum yum yum food. Attentive service, Generous portions. Peaceful location unlike downtown PA

Moussaka. The Greek version served here is potato based.

We love the Palo Alto location, so we were excited when this location finally opened. Food is fantastic. Try the octopus! Also recommend the moussaka. Service is extremely friendly. Will certainly be back many times.

As a speakeasy enthusiast myself I definitely agree to the fact that it is "hidden" but also it does kinda give corporate vibes a little bit - maybe we can say they "gentrified" the speakeasy experience which is honestly so funny for Palo Alto. But anyways I don't think a classification should stop you from visiting it. The food is actually surprisingly really good. We came with a pescatarian and honestly while the offerings for snacks were a bit slim, every option was really good. I feel like this was the first time where I understood the price even the the quantity is no where close to be desired. One shrimp is like $6 and I was like whoah. Service is definitely more laid back and it's overall just like a more chill atmosphere. I'm fortunate to work nearby so I'll definitely visit this place a few times after work to blow off some steam... And the drinks! Yes they are good! They are also quite strong! Would come back again but also if you're conscious of budget then I'm not sure if you'll find the same value proposition.

It came out quickly, crisp, and as cold as it gets. I also tried a shrimp dish from the "Steamed" section, and it was delicious. Their chicken was also larger than I expected, making it a good bang for your buck, especially if you plan on grabbing a few drinks. Excited to come back and try more of their cocktails!

We were seated in the bar area at some tables. The bar is impressive. It's filled to the ceiling with different bottles. We felt like we had to try a cocktail to start. Our bartender was great and even went off menu for some of our drinks. The staff was very friendly and attentive. Once we were seated we got some appetizers to get us started. We ordered chickpea panisse, French onion soup, goat cheese mousse, and the apple salad. Everything was delicious. My favorite was the chickpea panisse. It looked like fried tofu, but it was so delicately soft in the center. The aioli that came with it was great too. My second favorite was the goat cheese mousse. It was beautifully presented and a good balance of flavors. For main dishes, we got a variety of things. We got salmon, hanger steak, flat iron steak, and poulet roti. Everything was delicious. I think the flat iron steak was preferred over the hanger, but both were good. I thought the chicken was delicious. It seemed braised with a lot of flavor. It was a generous portion with a large salad. It was very well done. We also got a couple of sides of macaroni and cheese. Those didn't disappoint. They came in hot iron skillets and were hearty and delicious. For dessert we got the mousse au chocolat. The mousse with ice cream was a great combination. The dessert was well balanced. We thoroughly enjoyed our evening. The staff was great, the food was delicious, and the vibe was fun.

Parker house rolls were fresh and tasty, although not spectacular. The wildflower butter tasted about the same as regular butter. 2. French onion soup was very pleasant, highly recommended. It had a strong taste of (1) something resembling wine must and (2) a meat stock, although I wasn't entirely sure. 3. Roasted chicken was good, maybe not as good as at Sekoya in terms of juiciness, but not dry either, especially with the jug of juice. The chicory salad served alongside it was delightful, however, and one of my favourite parts of the meal. 4. The duck was somewhat small and drier than the usual Chinese style. I did like the demi glace sauce and the rutabaga garnish. 5. The 12oz dry aged rib eye was tasty, with a beautiful crust, but the interior again was a little drier than I would hope for medium rare. Again, the bordelaise sauce was very good. We all loved the aioli that was served alongside the French fries. 6. The side of cooked beans was the main disappointment. The beans themselves didn't taste of much, and the dish as a whole was only rescued by the generous serving of marcona almonds. 7. The grits were decently good. Overall, the meal was an enjoyable dining experience and I would recommend Zola, especially as this style of cooking is becoming less common and squeezed out by restaurants serving more aggressively-flavoured dishes.

Here's what we ate: We shared DOUBLE-FRIED TEMPURA MUSHROOMS shimeji & oyster mushrooms, whipped tofu, yuzu, sweet soy, togarashi, chives | $16: 3.5 *. The mushrooms were delicious and so crispy, but not overdone. The "whipped Tofu, etc. was kind of plopped on the side and had NO flavor. I saw no evidence of the chives or togorashi CAESAR SALAD romaine hearts, garlic croutons, parmigiano reggiano tuile, house caesar dressing | $20: 3.5*. Pretty much standard issue. the lettuce was very tender and fresh For my entreé I chose ROASTED SCALLOPS day boat scallops, snap peas, parsnips puree, orange-soy glaze | $46 4*. Portion was small, only 3 scallops (hmmm ~$15 per scallops) The scallops were a tad under for me, but nicely caramelized and the accompanying peas and glaze were a delicious pairing. I usually find parsnip pureé to sweet, but this one had just the right balance. G got ROASTED MARY'S CHICKEN garlic mashed potatoes, green beans, chicken jus | $34. 3.5* This was a huge portion, like half a chicken. She absolutely loved the potatoes. I think the chicken was just okay, nothing special and the skin wasn't crispy. For dessert we split a butterscotch pudding topped with fresh fruit. It was a wonderful rich creamy flavor, but very tiny - 4-5 oz. I don't remember the price, but I think it was like $20 3.5* On balance, creative, some highlights. The space is sleek, modern, and light-filled, making it a perfect spot to gather with friends for lunch or evening drinks and bites. Here is a breakdown of what we tried: Deviled Eggs: A must-order appetizer! Topped with tobiko/caviar, crispy shallots, and chives, they are incredibly creamy with a nice pop of texture and savoriness. Korean Fried Chicken Wings: Crispy, perfectly glazed in a sweet-and-spicy sauce, and topped with sesame seeds. Served with a cool dipping sauce that balances out the heat wonderfully. Tacos (Carnitas & Shrimp): Both taco options were served on warm, fresh corn tortillas topped with pickled red onions, cilantro, and served with a side of slaw and spicy salsa. High quality and super flavorful. Roasted Cauliflower: A gorgeous mixture of purple and white cauliflower tossed with a rich green pesto and drizzle of spicy red pepper sauce. A phenomenal vegetable side with a great kick. French Fries: Golden, crispy, well-seasoned, and served in a massive bowl--perfect for sharing across the entire table. Overall: Excellent presentation, generous portions for small plates, and a super welcoming atmosphere.
