Wow the food tastes extremely fresh, most notably all the veggies in their appetizers. My favorite dish was the half cooked asparagus appetizer served with burrata and pine nuts, such a beautiful bite that came together. Service was quick and we were able to make a reservation. Also a cute theme and aesthetic that I haven't seen before, would recommend this for a nice dinner out

Really enjoyed my recent work dinner here at this restaurant that has American/Californian cuisine. The ambiance was cute and cozy and the service was fast. I had to adjust the party size and timing and there were very accommodating. We started with the olives, cornbread and brussel sprouts with the crispy Brussels being the highlight as they were seasoned very well. For my main dish- I had the pork ragu pasta which I enjoyed. Note that the Bolognese sauce was a bit on the creamier side. I'll definitely be back!

Camper is an incredible spot to grab a bite. The food that they serve is both comforting and exciting. Unique flavor combinations, but prepared in a way that feels like a family's home cooked meal. I came here to celebrate a special occasion with work colleagues, so I got to try a lot of different food, and I have to say, almost everything was fantastic. The only dishes I wasn't fond of were more geared towards vegetarians. Either way, I'd highly recommend this place if you want to have something a bit more elevated for a special occasion.

Camper is a charming and cozy restaurant situated at the corner of a street in downtown Menlo Park. My friend booked a table through OpenTable to celebrate a friend's birthday with brunch/lunch at 12PM on a Saturday. Upon arrival, the restaurant wasn't too busy -- about 40% capacity. We waited about a minute as the host had stepped away before we were seated. The staff were welcoming, friendly, and attentive! My friend and I ordered quite a few plates to share and try out their menu. We definitely had leftovers. APP * Warm Sourdough (3) with Cultured Butter + Housemade Jam The appetizer was okay. I appreciate the butter and jam; however, the sourdough toast was pretty hard and difficult to chew. Perhaps not as fresh a loaf? MAINS * Challah Bread French Toast: Roasted Blueberries, Vanilla Custard, Macadamia Nut Butter, N * Camper Fried Chicken Sandwich: Saffron Aioli, Romesco, Manchego, Cabbage Slaw, French Fries with Catalan Ketchup + Garlic Aioli * Smoked Trout Salad: Sauce Gribiche, New Potatoes, Bacon, Broccolini, Herb Salad, GF * Shakshuka Verde: Tomatillo, Green Garlic, Artichoke, Cilantro, Feta, Poached Eggs, Sourdough Let's start with the two stars of the meal, the French toast and smoked trout salad! Both were balanced and delicious! However, the Camper Fried Chicken Sandwich fell a little short, mainly due to the overabundance of slaw and sauces. Unfortunately, it left the fried chicken less crispy and enjoyable. The fried chicken was bland, but being from Georgia makes it hard to meet my expectations for good fried chicken. I think reducing the amount of slaw within the sandwich will do the trick. The saffron aioli sounds good, but I don't taste any saffron. It's a delicate ingredient and can be overpowering, but in this case, it was absent. Lastly, the Shakshuka Verde was beautifully plated, and the flavors were enjoyable. However, my opinion may be influenced by my dislike of artichoke. My friend wanted to order this dish but was disappointed. The sauce was very loose and watery, and it should have been a bit thicker for easier bread dipping. The poached eggs broke as soon as they arrived on the plate. With some fine-tuning, I believe it could be a fantastic dish--plus, it definitely needs more feta! DESSERT * Caramelized Milk Jam Pudding GF, N: Candied Pecans, Dulce de Leche, Whipped Chantilly It was a great way to complete our experience! The pudding was delicious. The staff brought out this dessert with a candle for my friend's birthday. It was very kind of them. Since I was only there, I invited the staff member who brought it out to join in singing the birthday song. She did! It was a very thoughtful gesture.

I was pleasantly surprised by Campers. The space feels contemporary and vibrant without being pretentious, and the service was friendly. They also have a large private dining room in the back that can be rented for events. The menu appears to change seasonally. I visited in late August. We tried a fish crudo, salad with seafood, a pasta dish, and a pudding dessert. Everything was fresh, well-seasoned and delicious. The dishes felt creative yet balanced, and the portions were generous. I later returned for brunch, which wasn't as busy as dinner (perhaps it hasn't been widely discovered yet and part of me wanted to gatekeep). We ordered the Shakshuka Verde and the House Benedict, both of which were fresh and delicious.

Food 3.5/5, Service 4.5/5, Ambiance 5/5. I came here for a work dinner where we shared several dishes family style (the prawns, chicken, agnelotti, halibut, and ravioli) and had several sides including grits, corn bread, and sourdough. I really enjoyed the cornbread and the cheesy grits. Not sure that I would come back to order a single meal, but It was nice to try several different dishes at once and great for a large group where everyone was willing to share. My favorite dish was the agnolotti pasta by far, though the chicken was substantial and a hearty meal to share among two or more people. The menu itself is super eclectic, Californian American with Italian and Asian influences (for example one dish came with bok choy). I was not a fan of the halibut and it tasted surprisingly fishy but that may have been because of how it was seasoned. We also got the apple crisp and milk jar pudding for dessert - I preferred the crisp. We had excellent service for a large party of 6 or 7 people. The dishes are $30-40 a plate so it pays to come as a group and get the full palate experience.

Overall, Camper is a really cute spot in Menlo Park's downtown-ish area. It boasts a Michelin star and its best to get a reservation. Very classy place, and the atmosphere is somewhat professional. The seats are very nice, feels like a couch. I loved the food! Everything was cooked perfectly, and I really enjoyed the grits in my chicken dish. I wouldn't say any dish was particularly outstanding, but it's an overall solid spot

Camper has an automatic 20% gratuity added onto your bill. Now our server was kind enough to let us know when the bill came out, but tips should be based on service and not based on whether or not you just decide to just dine somewhere. Management if you are reading this, either pay your workers a fair and livable wage or find other ways to make up for this 20% elsewhere on your menu. Now lets talk about why this is a further issue. It may had been an off night, they may had been understaffed--who knows. What we did know was our server only came twice to check in on us, once at the beginning when we ordered and at the end when we paid the bill. Strangely she also told the busser to remove our plates right when our sourdough came out. The bussers came back and apologized for the miscommunication and eventually brought the plates back but this un smooth service was why 20% is a steep price to pay just to dine here on top of the cost of the food. Speaking of food let's talk about portions for the price. I personally ordered the Crab Spaghetti and my girlfriend ordered the Corn Agnolotti. The saving grace for this review however is the food was actually delicious. Flavors were all there and unique enough that we may consider coming back if we were in the area. But man for $36-37 an entree we definitely would have to realllly reconsider it because I didn't even get a full crab leg worth of meat in my spaghetti. It was literally probably shreds to a single joint on a crab leg. For that price we literally finished our meal in six bites. I could definitely had used more food and left feeling unsatisfied because of it. We definitely would've paid for another entree but with how the night went on with our first impression, we definitely had to say no. So overall, be prepared for an expensive meal if you choose to dine here, but would Camper be on my list of future visits or recommendations? Probably not.

I love Camper! We eat here several times a year, and it is always an excellent experience. My husband and I are pescatarians and we don't eat meat. At Camper for our entrees, he typically orders the halibut, and I typically order the fresh house-made spaghetti with crab. The cocktails are inventive and well-balanced. Tonight we had: Yuzu Rye-Ball (Rittenhouse Rye, Yume liquor, Akashi yume Japanes whiskey, mint, lemon, and yuzu hop water) And Smoky Monty (mezcal, Amaro Montenegro, brucato chaparral amaro, mole spices) Both cocktails were well-balanced and flavorful. Then we had: Warm sourdough bread with savory cashew dip (5 stars!) Little lettuce with persimmon, sunflower seeds, and white balsamic vinaigrette (5 stars!) Camper spaghetti with Dungeness crab (5 stars!) Roasted Pacific Halibut with black garbanzos (4.5 stars) Fossilized honey nut squash side (a million stars!!!) Smoky mix of wild mushrooms with egg yolk jam (6 stars) For Dessert: Pink lady apple crisp with oatmeal crispy and vanilla ice cream Carajillo coffee cocktail Midnight raider mezcal espresso martini. must-try! It's so enjoyable to sit outdoors under the twinkly lights with the heaters. Also, cozy to sit indoors. The people who work here are really nice. The bartenders, host/hostesses and servers are all pros and good people. Highly recommend this spot.

Mark, Hiro and the staff were amazing in accommodating the large group, I did not hear a single complaint and ever found a dish that they enjoyed. I sat separate from the team at the bar and feel horrible I forgot the lady bartender's name but she kept me company and the pictures attached were what I opted for my meal. I lived the heirloom tomato salad with the baby mustard greens!! the deviled eggs were tasty too.

Pretty modern space with a varied menu. Service was attentive and quick to add a glass of wine midway through my meal. We started with delicious Manhattans on the rock with perfect cherries. Fresh warm bread with cashew butter, an interesting alternative to butter. The salad was a huge portion but fresh with a nice light sesame dressing. The agnolotti with squash was tasty and the halibut was a generous piece well cooked. Overall a nice dinner in MP. We were in the area for a meeting but plan on coming back, the burger and fries were popular and looked great.

Great dinner spot in Menlo Park! Seems very popular so it is good to have a reservation. Grateful that they had a fun, substantial vegan option with the chickpea panisse. They reminded me of gnocchi. Great flavors and you can tell the chef is thoughtful about the menu with creative options. And good pickles are always a plus for me!

You know the kind of restaurants that feel warm and inviting, a comforting places you want to share with friends and family? This is not one of them. The atmosphere felt very cold and stiff. I went with a large party, and three of us ordered the same rigatoni; the pasta was inconsistent, with some plates overcooked and others undercooked. Overall, everything felt disingenuous, almost more decorative than edible, especially in the way the dishes were presented. That said, the wine list is excellent. I would not return.

I was the Designated Driver so I ordered an Iced Tea while others in the group ordered expensive double whiskeys and top shelf cocktails, The owner of the bar comes up to me and says, and I quote, " I paid 1.5 million dollars for this bar, you can't come in here and order iced tea, It's not a coffee shop, you need to order something more expensive" Despite a lifetime of experience of ordering food and drink, apparently I ,the customer, ordered wrong. Not having Iced Tea at a bar is like not having vanilla at Baskin Robbins. There are non-alcoholic drinks here which I was well aware of, but mocktails are usually full of sugar or zero-proof alcohols which often taste like salted donkey anus, So that's not happening with me. After taking a second to process, I put 2 & 2 together and thought this was a money issue, So I said "I don't care, charge me whatever, but I would like an iced tea" and the response from the owner was " I don't care, GO FUCK YOURSELF, GET THE FUCK OUT OF MY BAR" as he pulled all of the entire groups drinks back over the bar and started gesticulating wildly. At which point further "Pleasantries" were exchanged across the bar and at the end of it all no additions to police records were incurred and we parted ways. This gatekeeping and aggressively inappropriate behavior seemed wildly incongruent with the mantra of "What would Jerry do" ( Jerry Garcia of the Grateful Dead ). Regardless, I am never going there again, nor their sister restaurant Bistro Vida. This pretentious, overpriced, clown show of a venue can collapse in on itself as far as I care. The bars decor of cosplaying as a secretive 1920's speakeasy burnishes the venue's lack of differentiation which is in direct conflict with the bars new money aspirations of being elite or exclusive. The ridiculous idea that the owner spent X dollars necessitates you ,the customer, spending Y dollars breaks all social conventions that I have known throughout my entire life. There is no reason for a host/owner to behave like a foul mouthed spoiled child when asked for the basest of requests. The kicker is that this is not new behaviour from the owner and has been a long running aspect of the business https://yelp.to/rVUTLHQ53y ( review from 9 months from my encounter ) I refuse to support businesses that don't respect their customers. Using that language sets up an expectation that neither the ambiance nor the vibe is able to live up to. I can only assume that those reviews that commend this place as a speakeasy have never actually been to a real speakeasy and are more accustomed to box restaurants and bars. I sat at the bar and ordered a bourbon neat with a water back. There were three staff members behind the bar, none of them were particularly friendly or outgoing, which as someone who worked in the industry for years is surprising as a new establishment. Even though it was happy hour time, it was a Wednesday the place was less than half full and good servers /bartenders normally add to the experience and help creat a customer base of regulars to sustain business after the "come see" crowd is over. I ordered d' nuts as a snack and they weren't very special, even a bit overcooked / burnt. Maybe this place is exciting for a Palo Alto crowd that doesn't get out much, especially on the stretch of California given the lack of competition. My guess is that after a few months they will be hard-pressed to find a steady crowd.

They only gave me two tiny lime pieces, and I couldn't even get enough juice out of them to brighten up the tacos. Something so simple, but it makes a huge difference. We also asked for chips and salsa (they're not free), and they never came. Honest mistake -- they were cool about it and took it off the bill -- but still, it added to the overall experience. Another thing: the nopales weren't well cooked or prepped. They had that slightly tough, raw texture instead of the tender, seasoned bite they should have. Flavor-wise, the pastor and birria were decent, but with weak salsa and barely any lime, it felt incomplete. All four of us agreed on the same thing: This place could be great if they tighten up their salsas and the little details. Though it was Saturday noon, we found free covered parking at Menlo Center Plaza off Santa Cruz Avenue. True to online postings, this restaurant had vibrant & faux flowery decor. Our large group of 8 was seated in the main dining hall with another large group. The menus of specials and cocktails with colorful F&D photos reminded me of touristy European restaurants. I had the hot Japanese sencha while my wife got the Thai Iced tea served with a crushed iced ball on top. Roti Mataba, Crispy Egg Rolls, Farmhouse Wings and Crispy Calamari were our starters for this gang of eclectic diners. I shared with my wife the Panang Neua (braised beef in curry sauce) and Pad See You which came gorgeously plated with generous servings. We were able to sample the Crab Fried Rice and Tom Kha from our dinnermates. Ruk Na (love you) Platter was the underwhelming dessert combo of Thai Vacation, Sticky Rice (no mango), Chocolate Cake with fresh fruits and a macaron. To be described as IG worthy in the menu wasn't accurate IMO. It must've been an off-day in the kitchen when they were prepping this "leave the choice up to us" plate of sweets. Food was way flavorful than regular Thai restaurants we've been to. The common complaint is the very pricy food. The staff was nice though. They even acknowledged our request for photos. Even with the setbacks, this was a nice lunch with this group.

The drinks/cocktails are great with an extensive selection in addition to their willingness to make things not on the menu as long as they have the ingredients. We only had "bar food" (french fries, onion rings, and my friends had wings) but the menu looked really interesting. Next time I will go back for some pizza or other things on the menu. The most unexpected part of the evening happened when they brought out a "cake" made of brownies and candle in it! My friend sneakily told them it was my birthday. The brownie cake was delicious and enough for many more than the 3 of us. Such a great place and I will be back soon!

It's a bit small but we got some seats at the bar. The wall art was beautiful. They had TVs to watch sports. Then had a good amount of brews to choose from but of course we were there for the hard stuff. We decided to order just a salad. We had a spicy chicken salad and it was really good. Really good portion too. We also had a couple martinis and cognac neat. The bartender/server was very personable and very knowledgeable about liquor. Especially tequila. A nice spot to hang. Would stop by again if in the area.

The short rib was tender and everything on the plate went well together. I loved the Yorkshire pudding! It was soft and had an eggy flavor. The truffle pasta had a very mushroomy flavor that I loved. It gave it an earthy taste. The pasta itself held the sauce well and it was perfectly cooked. I was not a fan of the lobster roll because the lobster did not taste fresh and fell out of the New England roll. Over all, I enjoyed most of the food and hope to go back to give it a second try.

The entire space…read moreis beautifully designed with floral details everywhere -- it's easily one of the most aesthetic brunch spots in the area. The presentation of the food is stunning. Every dish looks like it was made for photos, but it actually delivers on taste too. The drinks and desserts were especially memorable -- light, fresh, and not overly sweet. It's definitely more of an experience-driven place, so expect it to be on the pricier side. But if you're going for a cute brunch, a girls' day, or content creation, it's 100% worth it. Service was friendly, though it can get busy, so I'd recommend making a reservation. Overall, if you're in the Bay Area and want a brunch spot that's both visually beautiful and enjoyable, Son & Garden is a must-visit.

Our…read morereservation was at 1:00, but from the moment we arrived, the hostess kept repeating that the kitchen closed at 1:30. It was said so many times that the whole table immediately felt rushed instead of welcomed. To make matters worse, we were seated on the outdoor patio during a cold, windy day, and the heat lamps didn't seem to work. Not exactly the best setting when hosting business guests. Even though we arrived on time, menus didn't come until around 1:15, which left us with barely any time to order before the hard 1:30 cutoff they kept warning us about. Then right at 1:30, we were told the kitchen and bar were closed, so no additional food or drinks could be ordered. I ordered the stone pot bibimbap and it missed the mark. The rice should have that crispy texture from the hot stone bowl, but instead it was wet, mushy, and didn't feel like a true bibimbap experience. The most disappointing part was being asked to leave around 2:15 while people were still finishing their food and drinks. Overall, it felt more like we were being managed out the door than hosted. I was genuinely embarrassed to have brought corporate guests here.
