We ordered off the 3 Course Menu for $32 where there are some good choices for Starters (House Salad, Caesar Salad, or Soup--tomato basil, French onion, or corn chowder), Main Courses (French Pot Roast, Parmesan Crusted Chicken, Grilled Atlantic Salmon, Roasted Turkey, Chicken Cordon Bleu, or Jambalaya), and Desserts (Butter Toffee Cake, Bread Pudding, or Molten Cake). I chose the corn chowder which was excellent along with the pot roast which came with carrots, onions, and mushrooms in a tasty sauce. For dessert, I had the molten lava cake which was rich and came with vanilla ice cream. I bought a carrot raisin loaf to take home because I remember how terrific it was in the past. My wife had setup a dinner celebration for the staff at her school. The owner was very friendly and helpful when reserving their private room. They also helped her put together a menu for the staff to choose from that just listed the choices without the pricing, instead of the full regular menu. Upon arrival the room was ready. One of the teachers decorated the table. The staff was so friendly and commentating. They made sure we were taken care of. The food was delicious and the portions was reasonable. Lol We originally sat outside because we had our fur baby, Louie with us, but my husband and daughter started getting bitten by mosquitoes. The restaurant was very accommodating and quickly moved us inside, which we really appreciated. This isn't just our Thanksgiving tradition -- it's one of our weekly go-to spots. Whether it's breakfast on the weekends or a comforting meal during the week, we always find ourselves coming back. I've known about this place for decades - but never been - and went through an on-again, off-again curious bout. And then one day, here I was! I was running a few errands with Mom and tagging along with us was the pup. I called to make sure they allowed dogs at their outdoor patio which they confirmed. Came through for a late lunch (Saturday) and were seated immediately. Menus were given to us as well. Tons of choices, but it eventually came down to the French onion soup and the smoked tuna Benedict. FRENCH ONION SOUP: Fantastic! Served hot, cheese was properly melted and there was depth in the broth. Even bites off the broth soaked bread was yum! Off to a good start! SMOKED SALMON BENEDICT: Egg was perfectly poached. Salmon was... cooked. I guess I was expecting fresh sliced sushi-type salmon slices, but no biggie. I figure this is how they prepped it here. And because it was cooked, gone was that familiar smoked aroma. Hollandaise sauce was watery. Put them all together along with a piece of the muffin, capers and onions and honestly, lacked flavor. There was very little seasoning with each bite I took. A bit of salt and pepper might have helped, but our server never came back to check on us. I could have used a refill with my drink as well as ketchup and hot sauce for my potatoes (cooked great, I'll admit) but again, our server was nowhere to be found. She only reappeared to give us the tab. I asked Mom how her chicken pot pie was and like my dish, hers, too, was bland and lacked a lot of flavor. Again, there were no condiments available so... we liked the concept of the flat bread on top, though. Sadly, it didn't make up for the overall taste. FOOD: 3 (but closer to a 2.75, really. The soup was the saving grace.) SERVICE: 3. Only because our server was really nice and friendly, but has lots of room for improvement. VALUE: 3. PARKING: Shared private lot. Huge. Not an issue. I always love going to Mimi's. It's always a delicious little escape from the world, and this time was just as delicious. Before, I get into my review If the food, I wanted to clarify why u gave this restaurant 4 stars. I ordered a dozen muffins to go. I asked for half pumpkin and half carrot raisin. When I got home, I realized that instead of carrot raisin, the waitress packed blueberry in the box instead. These muffins are a bit on the pricier side, so I was disappointed, but I didn't have time to drive back to exchange them. The food I ate at the restaurant was delicious and fresh. I wanted something light so I had an egg white veggie omelette with a cappuccino. The omelette came with a muffin, so I ordered the pumpkin muffin and it was delicious. My son ended up eating up more than half because it was so good. The cappuccino was also delightful and paid very well with the muffin. I will still go back to Mimi's, and make sure my to go orders are right before I drive home. read more

The good: I came here for a baby shower and it was amazing! We got to sit in their outdoor banquet area that is enclosed like a sunroom. I loved the privacy and openness to the outside. The servers were friendly and helped us take group pictures. I liked the setup where guests could order from a preset menu of a few options. I got the stuffed french toast which was decadent and delicious. My eggs were cooked nicely over medium. I also had a huge serving of cranberry juice. Their portions were generous. I think the place has a nostalgic feel for certain people. I didn't grow up coming here but it seemed like the customers tended to be older. Hof's parking lot was full so we came to Mimi's since it's closer to home. Big mistake. Server was nice but overwhelmed by servicing what looked to be five tables. Food wasn't anything special. Amazing portion, I had the French Quarter burger. It was very filling and delicious! I would definitely try it out again. The fries were nice and crispy. For dessert I had the Mimi's bread pudding. There's been many restaurant openings in the area so there's much more competition and I noticed their parking lot hasn't been filled like it used to be. Regardless we went because they have the best corn chowder which I ordered with the carrot raisin Madeline's. Hubby had an omelette for dinner and we both loved our meals. I've been a long time patron of this location and the food is always delicious. French Onion soup is always spot on! The cooks still take special orders of menu items that are discontinued when ingredients are available. The staff is very friendly and attentive. The GM Miguel is very helpful and friendly. We recently had an event in the banquet area and the service was wonderful and they were very accommodating to our needs. We are so grateful and look forward to hosting more events aside from our usual family dinners. The Mimi's Brunch Trio is a great place to start if it's your first time there. You get a waffle, stuffed french toast, and pancake with side of eggs bacon. This way you can try all 3 and see which you like best. For me it was the french toast. The quiche lorraine with potatoes was okay. I wasn't going to post my review because our service was excellent. However, there were only two other tables at 7:00 on a Monday night. My husband ordered the French potroast which he liked but I ordered a rib eye steak. It was like rubber. No flavor and very thin. Later we thought maybe it had been frozen and microwaved because of the lack of flavor and texture. For $31.00 then tax and tip made it $40.00 it was very overpriced and a huge disappointment. I have had multiple fundraisers here at Mimi's Cafe Torrance for the Palos Verdes Symphonic band. Each one was very successful and Miguel the manager made sure everything was taken care of. There is an online application for fundraising that makes it very streamlined, but Miguel is always available for questions. He even allowed us to use a back section just for us. This is solely based on service. My mother and I walked in at approximately 5:30 pm on 5/9. The gentleman greeted us and walked us to the first booth. We sat down and the server looked at us and did not say a word. She walked to the 2 tables behind us helping them with their food. I understand she was busy. She walked by again after a couple of minutes and again said nothing to us. After 7 minutes of not being approached or even greeted by the server, we walked out. As we were walking away I turned around and the server looked at us and just turned away. She could've at least told us a that she will be right with us or ask why we were leaving. She must have been having a bad day or didn't like us based on appearance which is unacceptable. read more

Had a reservation but were told that the wait even with a reservation is 45min to 1h. They overbooked.

It is important to note that despite how much I disliked Mimi's, our server was lovely. He was very sweet and we had reservations for Thanksgiving lunch, so I'm extra grateful to him for being sweet. If I could separately give him 5 stars, I would. We made reservations for 3 ahead of Thanksgiving. On the day of, we were seated fairly quickly, but our set up was a bit....odd. Not even enough tableware in a booth for 3 people. We also realized quickly that patrons at every single other table received nicer cloth napkins for the Thanksgiving meal, while we received little paper utensil roll-ups. This was not changed even after we asked for more utensils and napkins to cover everyone at the table. Partway through our meal, my dad looked up and noticed a gaping hole in the ceiling directly above me and my food and drink. You could see crumbling bits of ceiling, loads of dust, and even some really old, dirty bits of insulation hanging down. This is in the ceiling above the booth furthest back and to the right from the front door, next to the window looking out onto the street. Thankfully, it was a larger booth and my mom and I are both smaller. She scooted over to allow me to move myself and my food and drinks out from under the hole, so that nothing disgusting could fall down onto me or my food. I thought of taking a picture, but did not want to make a scene while everyone was there trying to enjoy their Thanksgiving. I regret that. That hole is unsafe, not to mention disgusting. There is no way having that directly above diners and their food is up to health standards. There was no sign anyone had tried to contain or manage the damage to prevent anything from falling. As for the food, the French onion soup was decent, but so is the Lipton packet. It did have plenty of cheese, which was great. The Thanksgiving meal was plentiful, which probably makes it sadder that I survived off the soup and a pot of tea. The mashed potatoes felt like boxed. They were inoffensive, but not restaurant quality. Honestly, they weren't KFC quality. I can't speak to the green bean casserole style side on the plate, but my mother LOVES green beans and could not touch it after one bite. She found them unpalatably mushy. I got dark meat turkey thinking it would be safer for moisture content. So dry. So, so dry. Felt and tasted like really dry canned chicken. However, my mom ordered white meat and the breast was surprisingly moist. Bland, but moist. The stuffing should just be ignored. Masses of it. Great quantity. Bland and mushy For the most part, the food was bland and sad, but it was warm and there was plenty. If I didn't enjoy taste or texture, I'd have been set. That pie though. The pecan pie was VILE. I am so glad I filled up on soup and picked at the assortment of main entree mush. I took the pie to-go to try at home. I took one bite, tried to chew, spit the wad into a napkin, physically had to wipe my mouth out, and spent the next 10 minutes trying to kill the flavor. It was abhorrent. Pecan pie is just several incarnations of sugar mixed with butter, eggs, and pecans. How in the world do you make such an un-buttery, un-caramel-y, un-nutty, cloyingly artificially sweet flavor out of those ingredients? I'll eat straight sugar. That pie was perfumed, fake, and I did not deserve that. It's supposed to be dessert, not punishment. Shame on me for not choosing pumpkin. That was standard. read more

Our choices were French onion soup and corn chowder for our starters with house bread then chicken cordon bleu with a baked potato and seasonal vegetables and a wonderful Jambalaya over rice and we opted to bring our desserts home with us along with substantial leftovers!! Sigh. I've been to various locations of Mimi's over the last 30 years. The place was dead. It's still dimly lit. I was sat down right away and before I could even open the menu, I was asked for my drink order. After that, it was about 20 minutes before anyone came back to the table to take my order. There weren't many customers. I don't know if they spread out the customers so everyone is near a window. It didn't seem like anyone was covering the area I was seated in. Finally, the server came and took my order. Nothing particularly friendly but not unfriendly either. No upselling. The food was equally unspectacular. I ordered a breakfast burrito and the eggs were hammered. The avocado was not evenly distributed. The tortilla was dried out which is why I think they normally drown it in chipotle sauce. The cheese was on the outside. I didn't want a wet burrito. However, I couldn't pick it up either. It was filling. The potatoes were crispy nuggets but, for me, way over seasoned. It would have been good if they put it inside the burrito and used less potatoes and a bigger tortilla shell. The server refilled my iced tea but it took forever. I also noticed they stopped serving their bread basket. Not sure how long that's been going on for. Will I go back? Not for breakfast. Nice spot for a good sit down breakfast! You'll notice the old-towne style red building the moment you enter the parking lot. Love the building, and the interior decoration is lovely! To start while looking at the menu, we ordered cappuccinos, but the machine was broken. We got coffee and tea instead, with two waters (one with no ice). The server returned with two waters with ice. I didn't make a deal of it. She was kind and had a warmth to her. We ordered the avocado croissant sandwich and the crabcake benedict (with fried egg whites instead of poached eggs). The avocado sandwich was AMAZING, and the potatoes were SCRUPTIOUS! However, the crabcake benedict was topped with fried whole eggs (not eggwhites). I didn't send the plate back, because the server was kind. The crabcake was delicious, and also served with the same yummy potatoes as the avocado sandwich. It's a lovely atmosphere and cute spot, but it seems that making any modification to your order won't be acknowledged. This is a gem - delicious comfort Food in a cozy atmosphere. They serve breakfast all day and the omelettes are my favorite. They also sell drinks ( mimosas , mojitos etc ) if that's your thing .
